Miss A loves The Fresh Beat Band on Nick Jr. and secretly so does Daddy B. {Shhh don’t tell him I told you.} Nick Jr. first shared this fun show with American families in August of 2009. Since then, the musical fun that Kiki, Twist, Shout and Marina bring have taught and continue to teach valuable lessons to preschool viewers, like getting along, not giving up, and solving problems as a team.
The Fresh Beat Band, was originally planned to be called, “The JumpArounds,” however before the show officially aired the name was changed. Following suit, in this past season, season two, some of The Junior Beats {the mini Fresh Beat kids} and the actor who played Reed, the owner of the Good Note Music Store were replaced. Is it me or does it seem like Nick Jr. is mixing things up with The Fresh Beat Band from season to season? Now that the third season of Fresh Beat band is upon us, things are no different.
Recent clips for the show’s next “new” season have sprung up on Nick Jr. touting lots of new things for the show, while also showing off a new cast member, Tara Perry. Perry will take on the role of Marina, who was originally played by Shayna Rose.
Allegidly, Shayna Rose is getting married and perusing other career options that are taking her away from The Fresh Beat Band. I know Miss A and maybe Daddy B too, will miss her dearly.
What do we know about the “new” Marina, Tara Perry though? Perry, age 25, has directed and stared in quite a few youtube videos, and had a tv appearance here and there, but her “claim to fame” is that she is The Movie Maven on Sci-Fi’s Mania.com. For more on Perry, check out her IMDB page she doesn’t have a wikipedia page yet, but now that she’s on Nick Jr. I assume that will be coming soon.
Although the “new” Marina still has red hair {noticeably darker}, and a turquoise and purple outfit, you can’t pull one over my kiddo. I’m not sure if it’s an effort to help Marina blend in or some new duds for season three, but all four of the Fresh Beats have new outfits, and on a side note hubby thinks that Shout has gained some muscle {that’s debatable, I think it was just covered by the collegiate sweater}.
While I’m not a huge fan of change, especially when it comes to television characters, she is a fellow Sagittarius so maybe I’ll cut her a little slack. Honestly though, I’m not really sure how a different Marina will affect the show, personally, I don’t think that it will, especially when it comes to the kids. I think they’ll be confused for a minute, get over it, and be dancing all over the room like with any other episode.

I’d love to hear your opinions on the topic. What are your thoughts on the new Marina? Do you like the changes that are coming to Nick Jr.’s Fresh Beat Band? Is your child {or someone else in your household} excited for season three?

No More Moose and Zee – NickJr Changes

We’ve recently discovered Fresh Beat Band. Since we’re not a long-time follower, the changes may go unnoticed on us. However, I must say in the past that whenever there is a change to a favorite show, we don’t like it (at least I don’t!
We still adore the “original” Wiggles. I do love the Fresh Beat Band and look forward to watching more if it. It is now on our DVR list of recordings.
I am not thrilled by all the changes that NickJr. has been doing to the Fresh Beats either. I think that they need to focus on finding cast members that can commit at least three years uninterrupted to roles and hold them accountable to their contracts. Kids (and some parents) get used to a certain person playing their favorite character and often don’t transfer that connection to a new actor. Hopefully, this new Marina’s acting skills will be up to par enough to win over critics.
I am however enjoying the change in outfits that they seem to have provided everybody expect Shout.
Umm she got pregnant. I’m sure it wasn’t planned since they are making serious money doing the show. What do you expect them to do? Beat her with phone books? You have children, give her a break. Sheesh
Kids can deal with the change. They’ll get over it.
I completely agree! I liked the original marina but by two year old son who loves the show, doesn’t care a bit. It’s really not that serious! Everything’s going to be O…..K
We don’t have cable but occasionally we are able to watch episodes online. (We being my three littles and i LOL) I had no idea they were going to change Marinas character. I have to say that I quite enjoy this show and have no qualms about letting my little one’s watch it and I feel this is one of those shows they should just leave well enough alone. I hope changing it up will keep the show fun and entertaining and not make it seem “off”.
Well my daughter loves this show and when he saw the new commercial for the new season, she turned to me and said where she is? I’m not pleased with the changes! I think they should leave the cast alone! I liked to original jr beats and Reid!!! But I’m sure we will adjust to the new marina!!!
I wonder what happened to Reed, was the original too old, did the original go on to do other things… looks like he’s doing London broadway maybe… who knows.
My son does NOT do well with change. He’s still mentions that they should still be The Jumparounds. When he saw the promo with the new “Marina” he was not at all happy. I must say neither was I. I don’t think they should try to pass her off as Marina. Give a reason why Marina had to leave & give the new girl her own identity. ( i.e Steve & Joe on Blues Clues). I think it’s insulting to children to: a. Hope they won’t notice or b. Give them no reason for the change & hope they’ll just blindly accept it.
I too would have liked to see the new Marina as a different Fresh Beats character, like a new kid at school or something, but it’s unfortunately too late for that. We’ll have to see how the kids react once the show has aired, I think by episode 3 of Season 3 they’ll be okay. Hopefully!!
Totally Agree with you Shellie! My daughter also noticed and is not happy. Hope the new Marina is as fun as the last.
Yep, my kids noticed too. We like the original Marina better. I agree with other posters that they should have just introduced her as a new character, a la the Blues Clues hosts.
That is so true, if you change the character, change their name and let Marina leave town for some reason.
I agree, let them exit on the show and introduce the new character.
I thought the EXACT same thing. Kids aren’t stupid. They notice these things. Usually faster than we do!! They should have made the new girl marina’s sister or cousin or something.
I couldn’t agreed more, give Marina a break and instead of covering with a new face, just introduce a new character to the “Beats.” That would be a more logical approach to accept Tara Perry.
I AGREE 100%… I’m not doing very well with the changes myself
You are right. This morning when we turned on the TV- my daughter noticed that there was a different Marina. She will miss the original Marina.
I am not happy about the changes either. But we will see how my daughter takes it. I am hoping she wont notice since she didnt notice reed leaving. Reed, the original, actually went on to do broadway. I am glad that the actors are able to use this as a stepping stone onto other things but I think the new characters should have their own identity. It’s asking a lot of fans and even the actors to fill the previous person’s shoes.
I guess we will see how things go on Fri when the new ones air!
I LOVED the old Marina. She was my favorite character. My daughter is only 8mons old, so she won’t be affected at all, but I was super upset about the change. It will not be the same for me at all, but at least now I know why the old Marina was replaced. Although, I was a little confused.. Wasn’t the Ne-Yo Fresh Beat’s Special a rather recent episode? Then all of a sudden she’s different
.
My three year old has been saying “Marina doesn’t match” all morning . The change of course is going to confuse her but change is a part of life and I’m sure she will warm up to the new Marina. Thanks for keeping us posted!
I am REALLY upset that the original Marina is gone
She is SUPER cute I love to watch her, infact that is the only way I can actually sit down and watch a full episode. My kids love the show I can’t wait to see how they respond BUT I will not be watching. As you can tell I don’t like change LOL, I also didn’t like that they replaced Reid.
I am so happy you brought this up! I am planning my own post abou this very subject. My kids haven’t seen the new episode, so they haven’t said anything yet. We will see what happens. I understand that her life circumstances changed, but I agree that they should have come up with a reason for her to leave and created a new character. Oh well, kids are resiliant. They will get over it. I love to see red heads on TV (I’m a read head) and the fact that she is also a fellow Sag makes it an even better match for me :p
i also would like to see this show rename and introduce the major cast changes rather than continue to use the same names and act like it is the same person. My son is 3 and really won’t notice the changes I am sure, but for the parents who have to watch these shows with their kids or for those who have older kids who DO notice, it just would sit easier with everyone I think. I adored the original Reed, and while the actor appears to have decided to go on to other career options, I would have preferred the new guy to have bought the music store…easy enough to explain I think. I dont mind the Jr Beats being replaced, never really got what they add to the show anyway and honestly feel they just need to scratch them all together. Would be a good time to do it if they are redoing the standard songs like the ‘Great Day’ and others.
I LOVED Marina, and so did also my girls. I am very sad to discover the change to Tara Perry. She does not have the fun and mischivious look in her eyes as Shayna Rose did, and Tara does also seem too flat to me. I’m a Saggitaurus as well, and still I have a hard time for her. I will give it a few episodes though, she might change. As far as the episodes I’ve seen online, hasn’t she spoke much, I hope that will change as well, since Shayna Rose – Old Marina, was a very active and playful caracter. Tara just seems so boring, no fire. But, hey again, I will give her a chance.
I felt the same thing – and my 3 year old daughter noticed immediately and got really upset when they called her Marina – For children of that age who are just grasping giving people specific names I think it is not a smart thing to do on Nickelodeon’s part. My daughter even said she has too big of a mouth lol (kids have no censors!)
I liked the old Marina’s somewhat clueless and innocent quality – Tara already seems to “old” for the show.
Oh well – good luck to Shayna and her growing family.
I actually wasn’t a fan of the original Marina….I felt like she lacked something…rhythm, originality…both maybe? Or something else…I can’t exactly put my finger on it. But I’m excited to see the new Marina and all the changes to the Fresh Beats! We love this show in my house and I think change is good!! Although I do agree with the previous poster that it would have been better to have made this new character an actual new character, not just a Marina replacement, but either way, I think the change is for the better. And if Shayna Rose is in fact pregnant and getting married, then good for her! Congratulations and best of luck!!
My four year old noticed right off the bat. He said “mama who’s that? That’s not maina, she looks old. Marina needs to come back.” (Mind you anyone over 10 looks “old” to him). I’m sure he’ll get over it eventually, but for now he’s protesting FBB until that “other lady” goes away. Lol
I was not happy when I saw the commercial with the new fresh beat Marina. My son is 10mths. old and fresh beat is his favorite also my neice from the first day they came on Nick. I’m not a fan of the new marina because she is not that youthfull as the original. The original had a more exciting way about her also her facial expressions always put a smile on my face that my 3 year old neice tend to copy. Will miss the red hair/
My two year old probably will not care about the change, but my four year old knows. I wasn’t a huge fan of Shayna Rose, but I’m less of a fan of a popular show my kids enjoy purposefully undermining their intelligence. I only allow a small number of TV shows in the first place, most of which are on Nick Jr. anyway, and I’m certainly sad to see the flippant attitude they’re taking toward this major change. I too agree that Reed and Marina should have both “left” and the new actors should have been new characters. I’m sure that this change will be discussed often on our house.
I think Perry should be a new character like Marina’s sister or cousin. I remember when Steve left Blue’s Clues and they wanted to bring in Joe. They had a whole set of activities for parents to do with their children to help with the transition. I expected something similar here. Kids aren’t stupid. They may not be able to put their fingers on it, but they’ll know something is up. Younger ones may get over it more easily (I agree with KAS). I’m not of a fan of the show anyway and only tolerate it because my son (who is so young he might not notice the change) loves the music and dancing.
I completely agree, I LOVED the transition that Nick Jr. did with Blues Clues, it seems like they just sprung the new Marina up on us, no explanation no, “Look who’s coming to Fresh Beat Band” just maybe hoping no one would notice. Perhaps that’s the biggest issue is the way Nick has gone about presenting her. And even if it’s just frustrating the parents we are the ones who choose our children’s programming and make purchases for them. Does anyone else think they could have thought the transition through better??
Yes I think they should’ve made it known as in blues clues Steve went to college lol well they should’ve done something like that but it is. Billion dollar company maybe we are in store for a last episode introducing the new girl but still her name hair and clothes shoul be different I think !
Totally agree with most mommys here.. My kids and I watched the show since day 1, and we were so used to the original cast. Inclusive i think that the original Reed was much funnier. I did not mind Nick Jr. changing the little Fresh Beats i think that it was good giving other little kids a chance to be on the show. As far as the new Marina it’s kind of going to be hard for me than for my kids because my daughter used to tell me “hey mom I’am Kiki, and my little brother is Twist, and you are Marina”. I really did liked Marina the most. (don’t get me wrong, they are all really good). As far as Nick jr. i agree with the mommys here saying that they should of given the new Marina a different name. I know that some kids get over the change quick, but i don’t want my kids thinking that they are seeing different or so.. Personally i think the Nickelodeon it self is not doing a good job. Has any mom notices how the programs have changed alot. For example when i was younger i remember Nickelodeon having alot of cartoons and kids competetion (i.e, What would you do, Legends of the hidden temple and so on..) now its just like grown up shows..I don’t know maybey it’s me or something..
Your right they should changevher name her hair color and her clothes colors our kids are pretty sharp they know but they’ll still love it,
Makes no sense to me that they didn’t write a story line where the REAL Marina goes on vacation or switches places with an exchange student or some nonsense like that. Marina was my daughter’s favorite character and she is sad that she is gone.
Change is always hard to accept even though change is the only thing that is constant. Personally, I loved the old Reed and am going to miss the old Marina but the fact is the show was made for “little people” and all they really notice is the fun and music. My granddaughters didn’t even notice the change. That’s the way life goes.
So GONGRATULATIONS to Shayna on her coming nuptuals and future endeavors.
I saw a more recent episode of Fresh Beats a little over a month ago and remarked to my wife that “Marina” was looking a little heavier. I told my wife I betcha she’s pregnant. Can’t have that on a kids show. I haven’t heard any official word, but its gotta be the reason. My son and his friend (both almost 5) are watching the brand new Marina now and still puzzling over where Shayna went. However, they’re not bent out of shape like the younger ones might be.
Does anyone else think she looks extremely old for the show and the rest of the characters? To me she looks like she’s 40ish……it’s like she has laugh lines and supposed to be in high school. I just don’t think she fits the rest of the characters AT ALL. I am not liking the change and my 7 year old said “who’s she?” so he knew right away.
My three year old declared “Mama!! Marina got long hair! And she became A LADY!!!!”
I loved Marina. She was the sweetest one with the truest smile. She made you believe she wasn’t acting. I did NOT want her of all of them to be replaced. I hope to see her in the future, My daughter WILL notice and won’t be happy. Especially since she plays her little drums right along with Marina. NOT COOL fresh beats. I hope she is okay and doing well.
I personally didn’t love Marina but I don’t like the way they just replaced her. The new Marina is okayy but it looks like she is trying a smidge too hard to fill old Marina’s shoes. But her voice is fantastic and so is her dancing! However, not happy about the New Reid. My son is 3 and he’s been making confused faces at the show since it started, he says “no es Marina” which means its not Marina in Spanish. But his favorite is Kiki so he’s not too upset, just confused!
My four year old brother, my 7 year old sister and I want to know why they changed my very favorite character on the fresh beat band. My litle sister and I would always fight over the role of Marina, and I always got it.I hope you guys would invite her back on the show so we can see her. I wish marina the best in her marrage and new carrier.
i had noticed when my neice was watchin it because i knew that marina always be lookin like kiki i dont know why but thats just my opinion and the old marina look better than the new marina, well see u later!!!
I don’t like the new Marina. I agree that she should be a cousin or something but not replacing Shayna. I was so confused when I turned the show on for my son and so was he.
We have been watching the Fresh Beat Band since the beginning. My husband and I love this show (possibly more than our sons >_<) We were first upset when they replaced Reed at the music store, and now that they've replaced Marina, we are very unhappy. And the music is just way too hip-hoppy now. It sounds way too much like the trending hip-hop thats going on now, and I am not impressed with any of the trending artists (Katie Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber) It's a kids show correct?? They need kid music!!!
My very precocious 5yr old and I love the Fresh Beats and mommy loved the old Reid(he was CUTE and that accent….sigh)
so my daughter was not at all happy with the new Marina and said they should’ve called her something else because, and I quote, “you can’t fool me”! LOL! The old Marina was young and fresh looking and peppy and the new Marina, not so much! Oh well, I’m sure we’ll adapt cuz the show must go on!
I completely agree with everyone else!! They should have brought the new character as a sister, or maybe a cousin of Marina. My son doesn’t seem to mind the change (he’s 2), but it just looks weird. She definitely looks a lot older than the rest of the cast, so that makes it less tolerable (no offense to her), and looks a little less passionate than the Shayna . Also, the new Reid is not feeling in. He’s not as animated as the other one. With this said, I will run because while I’m complaining, my son just made a mess of Parmesan cheese on my carpet! AAAHHHHHH!!!! *sigh*
We just watched the new epsiode thins morning and my son will not admit to the new Marina, he says she still has red hair so its just the same- too cute!
With all my respect I dont like the way the new girl act is not the same,i dont see her bleding but what can I say people got it do what ever they have to do.life goes on,but personaly I dont like the new girl the way she acts it seensfake…
My sister likes the new Marina and so do I too!
i played the newest episode for my 4 almost 5 year old daughter this morning & the first thing she said “mommy they changed Marina”. She told me she noticed it on the commercial at her dad’s house. We’ve been watching the show from the beginning. She didn’t notice the change on Reid either but she definitely noticed the new Marina. She keeps asking me what happened to Marina. Where did she go? I agree with the other moms they should given Marina an exit & introduced & new character to take her place. Usually when shows start to change the main characters the show starts to go down hill or something happens. I hope that’s not the case cause my daughter loves the show. BTW – Marina is her favorite character & I wonder if it’s going to change because of the change.
My son was very confused when he saw the new Marina. Both my kids get very excited whent they hear the Theme Song and the have also taken the drumming sound that comes on as soon as the theme song is played.. They did not like the new one but Im sure they will get used to it. Although the new Marina dances way better than the original my kids are definately missing the original. I think they should have at least colored her hair a little lighter to make the change less noticable. I completely agree with the moms saying they should have introduced her as Marina’s relative and let Marina leave the show like they did on Blues Clues with Steve and Joe. She must have not given them a warning before moving on. I just hope my kids quickly adjust to the change.
i think it’s totally fine that there is a new marina, although I will miss her and my son will notice I just think she should have different color clothes n hair as marina I mean they can’t fool our kids lol so the new girl looks sweet and very beautiful so were excited to see my son loves this show soo much he won’t watch nuthin else
your so right. mb there should have made her a whole different person like marina cousin or something this way there can say that marina went to visit someone and thats way she not there
I totally agree I can’t stand when they change characters in shows my nephew is really upset and said he wants the original Marina back. He doesn’t want to watch the show anymore, they need to stop changing the characters before kids stop watching it and then the shows won’t be successful, the new Marina isn’t as vibrant as the old one she is boring does’nt really have a good voice like the original Marina she’s more fun and has a better voice, the new marina can’t e even harmonize with killing she sounds horrible.
Harmonize.with kikki
shayna rose is coming back to fresh beat. theyve just filmed these few episodes till she gets back. she is married to the shows producets son and i read will she will return after her pregnantcy. no worries everyone
I love the changes… and think they will be new and “fresh”
I just wanted to comment to say that I love that this is even being addressed. My son is 2 and didn’t notice, but I did and found myself slightly annoyed (more than the usual amount of annoyance from FBB). LOL Thanks for addressing!
my children noticed immediately
i really don’t think people give the little ones enough credit, they notice EVERYTHING,lol,i agree, the new girl shouldn’t be “Marina”,they should have had her move on and explain that to the children viewers.my 4 year old couldn’t even apy attention to the show…only that Marina is different
If they replace Twist, we’re not watching anymore!!
my little girl now right away that that was a different girl now shes not into it at all. i know people move on do different things but in kids shows there should still as long as there can
I’m okay with the changes on the characters, but they messed with the original sound and type of music. Before, the kids could sing along quite easily –but these songs are more polished and my kids don’t sing and dance as much.
My daughter and I LOVE the new marina. I think she dances pretty well, she is very enthusiastic and a very good actress.
My son noticed it right away. “Mommy, that girl is wearing Marina’s clothes and she’s trying to look like Marina. Is the real Marina gone, and they’re trying to trick us?” He’s 6, so it’s not surprising that he’d notice.
I think instead of having her play Marina, they should have had her play Marina’s sister or cousin. They could do what they did when Steve left Blue’s Clues. They brought in Joe, Steve’s “brother”, and had him wear similar clothing. They even had an episode where Steve taught Joe to play Blue’s Clues, and Steve went to college.
I think Marina should have gone somewhere in the show. I’ve got it!!
The Fresh Beats could have had their “biggest” concert yet on the show. All through the episode, Marina could be helping the Junior Beats with their singing. And before the concert Marina could say that she waas nervous about singing in front of so many people since it’s usually just their school they sing for. Then when they got out on stage Marina could freeze, and be unable to perform. And when she tries again, she freezes again. Once they’re off stage Marina could say that she doesn’t think she’ll be able to sing in front of so many people ever again. She’ll be upset because she loves music and doesn’t want to give it up. Twist would say, “Wouldn’t it be cool if, Marina could keep playing music and keep singing, but she could do it in a way that wasn’t in front of a lot of people? Like how she sang in Reed’s studio with the Junior Beats to help them sing better… But then she wouldn’t really be part of the band, she’d be like… a teacher.” And Marina would say, “A teacher…? That would be cool!” And Twist would be waiting for the “but” and Marina would say, “I should be a teacher of music and singing! I love helping the Junior Beats, and then I wouldn’t have to give up music!” They’d have a moment of sadness that she was going to leave, but then Shout says, “Hey guys, isn’t Marina’s little sister a drummer too? And hasn’t she always wanted to be part of the Fresh Beats? Now that our drummer is going to college to be a music teacher…” Kiki: “We could ask Melissa to be the drummer for the Fresh Beats! Twist: We’re still going to miss you Marina… Marina: I’ll miss you too, but don’t worry, college is only 4 years!
And by that time, the 4 and 5 year olds that were there when she left will be 8 and 9, and won’t care if she comes back. And the 2 year olds won’t remember…..
My baby girl woke this morning and the first thing she asks for is “the fresh beats” to my surprise I noticed Marina is missing and some new mature girl is replacing her. My goodness, it is understood that Shayna Rose is in per suing a new career but for me (dad) don’t personally like “actor replacements” every so often. They should commit to a contract for at least 4 years. A successful show is a long committed show. I wish the best to Shayna in her future career and Tara Perry on her new role at the “Fresh Beats” And for my two year old daughter, she is too small to see any difference.
