I’m back from my Type-A Mom Blogger Conference and boy did I have an amazing time. I could not have gone at all if it wasn’t for the support and backing by my wonderful husband Daddy B, he drove the four of us to Asheville, stayed in the hotel room with the girls for most of the day and was the one who encouraged me to attend in the first place.
Also on my “must thank list” are some great organizations and companies who helped sponsor me for this event. Check out their websites listed below to help me support them.
No Fizz Charlotte – Hydrating the Carolinas
Phoebe Nursingwear – Style and Convenience for Today’s Nursing Moms
Dipe N’ Go – The Ideal Changing Station for Busy Parents on the Go
Market Mommies – Mommy Biz Listings
Since I’m the planned mommy I typed out my schedule for seminars, events, and nursing (since Baby C is still not taking the bottle). I had everything planned and as usual things always go different than planned, but at least it was a good different. For my very first, short conference this was a great one to start with, so if you’re a blogger and have never been to a conference I highly recommend Type-A Conference, especially if you live near the Asheville, NC area.
Meet -n- Greet
I attended two amazing seminars, visited the Expo where I met some great ladies and learned about some cool businesses, and lastly, enjoyed the My Little Pony Business to Blogger Speed Dating event.

Through the “speed dating” segment, I was able to connect with a bunch of wonderful people, some of my favorites were: Lisa Lehmann, aka Bead Girl who makes gorgeous jewelry and has such a fun personality, Robin Plemmons, who makes hilarious crafts and cards (you have to check them out) , Susan Payton, from GiveDaddy.com who is just a sweetheart and a sincerely nice blogger, Jessica Rosenberg from ItsJessicasLife.com who is so down-to-Earth and silly at the same time, and Whitney Pickering from Willow House who I loved chatting with about Charlotte. Now don’t get me wrong these weren’t the only great ladies I met at the conference but I really enjoyed their company and wanted to share them with you.
Also at the conference were some local (North Carolina) buddies who I had yet to meet in person. I’m a HUGE fan of touting where you’re from and although I’m not quite claiming the South
I’ll claim these lovely ladies: Gwen Poth, Brittany Vanderlinden, Lisa Frame, and Emili Bower are all great women who I respect and hope to get to know better.
Do’s and Don’ts
Here are a few things I did before attending the conference that I think helped my day go a lot smoother:
- Made sure to get several business cards printed. I started off in the Expo so my business cards came in handy right away.
- Made friends before the event. It’s great to go with someone you know, but if you don’t have that luxury, get someone’s phone number and plan on meeting them when you get to the event.
- Packed a few outfits in case the weather changed or in case Baby C spit up all over me.
- Packed healthy snacks. There were some delicious Little Debbie snacks all over the place, but I’m glad I brought some good foods too.
There were also a few things I definitely would have done differently now thinking back on my trip:
- Stayed in the same hotel as the event. I was unfortunately 2 days late to get in on the special block rate at the Marriott so we ended up staying across the street, which would have been fine but with the girls and hubby I was making several trips there and back and it would have been nice if we were all in the same hotel.
- Been a little more bold. I wasn’t sure what to expect initially and totally felt like the new kid at school. I wish though that I had went up to more groups and introduced myself, there were a lot of huddled groups so I found it hard to try to jump in on conversation, but really loved the My Little Pony event where I got face-to-face with bloggers and businesses. I tried to sit with people I hadn’t met.
- If I had the option (which I didn’t) I would have left hubby and the kids in Charlotte, in the comfort of our home. They would have had a much better time being able to relax a little more and I would have attended more seminars and probably stayed for the full 3 days (I try to tell myself that I could be away from my girls that long when in reality I think 1 day I still would have been ready to get back to them.)
In the coming weeks you’ll see a few fun changes to MommyB Knows Best, hopefully to they’ll make it even more fun to read. I’d love to hear your feedback so be sure to post lots of comments once things start popping up. Thanks again to each of you who were excited for me to attend my first conference, followed my Facebook Status Updates and Tweets. I appreciate the love and hope that I can give it back through my site.

Great recap! I love your “what I would have done different” list! That is so helpful for other newbies!
Aww thanks Sarah, and I saw you talking to another mommy otherwise I would have introduced myself
great tips! so glad you had a good time and got a taste of what a conference is like. someday I would love to get to one too, but with 3 little ones it’s just too hard! I don’t have anyone to watch the boys. Cute that the hubby travelled with you, was it a weekend? I would do that for Blissdom but it’s through the week.
Yeah it was very neat, last I knew SheCon ’11 is giving away FREE tickets to the first 500 bloggers: http://shecon.eventbrite.com/ if you’re interested, I know a lot of the conferences have child care. I actually only attended 1 day because of money, nursing, and hubby watching the children.
I agree with Sarah: That’s a really helpful list!
