Medifast Chewy Bar Review and Weight Loss Progress

Hey readers! I know I haven’t had a Medifast update in a while, I figured I would concentrate on monthly weight ins since my weight recently {with vacations and summer events} has been up and down but pretty steady at 147.

I do have some great news however, and that is not one, but two NEW Medifast products! I received the Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar and the Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar. In the packaging the bars looked very tasty and the flavors sounded delicious, right?!?!

Medifast Chewy Bar Review MommyB

Overall I liked the idea of a chewy bar since the other bars that Medifast offers (with the exception of the maintenance bars) are more “crispy” and more like granola bars, so it was a great change from what I’ve been munching on. I was super excited to try them out and they both satisfied any sweet tooth I had for sure.

Both bars are indeed chewy, I’ve talked to some people who prefer the bars chilled for texture purposes. I do agree somewhat, the bars are very chewy, so small bites are best, but I didn’t mind it. This however is not a good option if you’re munching in between talking to someone {think peanut butter on the roof of your mouth.}

I also love that they are “Naturally Flavored”.

Now my thoughts on each separately.

Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar – This bar definitely tastes like cookie dough, I personally would have preferred the milk chocolate drizzle on this instead of the white drizzle. Overall a good bar, a little on the sweeter side for me though.

Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar – I really liked the balance of peanut butter to chocolate in this bar and the chips gave it some additional texture. This is one of my favorite bars in the bunch.

My Medifast Progess – Week 29 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Here’s to a better week this week, although I struggled at times with my brain, and to be completely honest, there were moments where I thought, {and to be SUPER honest, may still have in the back of my head} that I should take a break from trying to stay healthy for the summer.

Like I’ve said in so many posts recently, losing weight and being fit will always be a challenge for me, it’s not something that I’m programmed to do nor is it a full part of my life yet, but I’m a work in progress and still hanging in there, for this week at least.

I got some great validation from you all in my past posts and on some instagram posts that were really encouraging for me, and while I’m not doing this for other people or for approval, it really is nice to hear words of encouragement and that I have people backing me up, so thank you for those of you who chimed in, (even if it wasn’t “out loud”).

This week I got to try the new Medifast Triple Berry Smoothie. Occasionally I like a good smoothie, so I was excited to hear that Medifast was coming out with a smoothie for their food plan. Medifast has two different smoothie flavors, Triple Berry and Pineapple Mango.

Since I was in a berry good mood, I decided to try out the Triple Berry flavor first. It was super easy to make, but if you’re going to follow the directions you should be at home or near a blender. Basically you add water and ice with the mix, and blend, then voila, a cold treat.

When I opened the package, I was delighted to see bits of dried fruits in the mix, and think it would make a good smoothie pop too!! {hint, hint} Overall I loved the taste of the smoothie and the texture was great too. I’m excited to add this to my list of Medifast foods that I love, although I may just add super finely crushed ice to the mix and shake it up or consider getting a personal-sized blender instead of putting it in my oversized blender, for easier clean up.

Medifast Triple Berry Smoothie Review MommyB

I will let you know what I think of the Pineapple Mango flavor when I try it. In the meantime which Medifast Smoothie flavor do you think you would prefer???

Make sure you check out my thoughts on the smoothie and other Medifast Foods by heading here: MommyB Knows Best’s Medifast Food Reviews.

So cheers {with my Medifast smoothie} to this next week, I’ll be traveling to a blog conference and am going to try to be on plan for the most part, but not beating myself up if not, although I know I won’t get workouts in this weekend, hoping once we get back I won’t have too much work to catch up on and will be motivated to start working out again as well.

Now, here are my results from the past two weeks:

5 Ways I Unwind After the Kids are in Bed

Being a work-at-home mom is no joke, I won’t list what I do daily between work and being a momma and running the house, because I know your job(s) are probably just as packed and filled with awesomeness and craziness at the same time.

The cocktail of emails, chauffeuring, tweeting, preparing meals, and sweeping up crumbs, leaves me, most nights, drained. After the girls are in bed, and after their obligatory attempts to get food/drink/more hugs and they’re really really  asleep, I get to take a big breath in and let it out.

Being a blogger I do my writing mostly at night, but often times before I begin work for the night I give myself a little down-time. For me, it’s important to have even 30 minutes to unwind after my kids are in bed. I don’t know about you, but I usually find myself doing mindless, calming activities to release the day’s stresses.

Here are 5 Ways that I Unwind after the Kids are in Bed:

Have a “hard drink”. No, I’m not talking about liquor, or even wine, I’m actually talking about my favorite pop or if you will, soda. My soda is like my beer at the end of the night. I know it may sound weird drinking caffeine so late at night, but it also helps give me a little kick that I need to get the rest of my work done too.

Tablet Games MommyB

Become a video game junkie.  At least for 10 or so minutes. I love playing time-management games. Again, I know it probably sounds weird considering most of my day is time management, but unlike real life….I can conquer these games, and complete levels…at home, not so much completion, just repetition. Wash, dry, fold, put away, wash, dry…..

Shocker, Television.  No shocker here, I use tv shows to help me decompress. Typically these days I stick to dance or cooking competitions, or some revamping show where hosts take a business and give it a new plan. For me, they are mindless shows where I don’t have to think about the character plot, and can just sit and veg out and my brain cool off.

Surfing the Inter Webs.  While it may seem logical to not be on the computer when I’m not working, I really enjoy checking out a few websites that show off baked delights, crazy cakes, new biracial hairstyles for the girls, and new kids movie trailers. It’s nice to be online and not have a specific purpose other than laughing, or finding something really cool to show the kids the next day.

Quaker Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies MommyB

Treat Myself to a treat.  If I were a treat, I would want to be the treatiest treat in all the land, or just something that is the perfect snack. I love the fact that Quaker Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies are made with Quaker® oats AND there are four cookies in each convenient, handy pack, so I can stop at just one…I said “I can”, meaning if I wanted to.

Quaker® Chocolate Chip Cookies allow me to be indulgent while still providing the power of Quaker® oats to fuel me for whatever the rest of the day might hold.

Ways to Help Children with Canker Sores

Thank you Jack N’ Jill for sending a sample of your product.

Lil’ C is a child who, right before she turned 3 years old, has started to get frequent canker sores. In case you are not familiar with the term, canker sores, are the lesion-type sores inside your mouth that can often cause pain and discomfort, especially during mealtimes.

Canker sores are not contagious, and often the result of genetics. They mostly occur in women in their teens and early 20’s although young children to older adults may get them as well. Diet is also another leading cause of canker sores, some studies say it can signify the lack of enough vitamin B-12 in one’s daily intake.

While we don’t know exactly what is causing our child’s canker sore outbreaks, we do know some things she’s been in contact that contribute to her being more prone to get them, and also the length of time they take to heal. Being a momma, the more I can help her stay comfortable and get less canker sores, the more I am willing to do and research.

Please do keep in mind that I am not a medical professional, only sharing my own personal story with you and recommend before starting any treatment with your own child, whether medical or at home, that you receive approval from your pediatrician.

We try to stay away from anything acidic, which, for Lil’ C, mostly includes citrus, {lemonade, oranges,} and tomato sauces, {pasta dishes, pizza}, although your child may eat more acidic foods, you can find them listed here: www.webmd.com

We also found out that some toothpastes contain a special foaming ingredient known as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), that irritates canker sores and can sometimes be a cause of an outbreak as well. In our search for organic toothpaste that does not contain SLS, we were introduced to Jack N’ Jill Certified Organic toothpaste.

Jack N’ Jill not only has no SLS, but there are no preservatives, and no fluoride. The toothpaste comes in five different Organic Fruit Flavors that smell AND taste good. Believe me, I’ve tried a lot of organic toothpastes, and Jack N’ Jill is one of the few organic toothpastes that tastes good {of course I tried it too!!!} Miss A and Lil’ C agree!!

Jack N' Jill Toothpaste

We highly recommend using Jack N’ Jill to prevent canker sore outbreaks in little ones, but also to promote good oral health, remember to also choose a toothbrush with soft bristles if your child is prone to canker sores!

Hopefully some of the tips in this post will help you if you have a child who suffers from chronic canker sores, but again, please remember, if the outbreaks are frequent consult your pediatrician for medical advice.

I received Jack N’ Jill products which helped aid in my canker sore prevention research. The opinions and thoughts in this post are my own, honest words. Your opinions may vary.

Camp Food Sprouts {Guest Post}

If you are like most parents, you are probably excited that school is out and that summer is almost here! No more car lines, packing lunches, homework or time sensitive projects. Summer is a time for fun and most of all it’s a time for your child to relax and make wonderful memories.

If your kids are like most American children their summer activities may consist of hanging out with friends, swimming, playing in the sprinklers, reading books, watching movies/TV, playing video games, and depending on their age, spending time on electronic devices.

If you’re like me, you don’t want your kids sitting in the house, watching tv or playing video games all day. You want them outside, playing and running and being an active kid. Let’s face it, our culture is an online culture and is becoming even more so every day.

We all want our children to be well rounded individuals, to have more than we had as children, to know more and of course to be greater. We strive for our children to be both tech savvy and earth savvy. We would love for our children to build a website and to build a garden. The question is: how do we get that balance in this fast paced, media-centered world that we are in? How do we show our children how the basics when that’s not the space we live in?

What if your child had the opportunity to go to a summer camp to learn real life skills while having a blast with other kids and making memories? Personally, it would be so fulfilling for me to see my little S walk into a room sporting a tie die shirt she made from veggies. I am giddy thinking of the look on her face when she sees the first sprouts from her egg carton garden. Can you imagine your child enjoying this wholesome experience??

These are just some of the many invaluable experiences that Camp Food Sprouts will facilitate for your child.

Camp Food Sprouts in Charlotte is a two week, summer day-camp, dedicated to teaching your child real-life skills and ensuring that your child has fun while doing it. At this unique camp, your child will engage in themed sessions that include art projects, cooking, gardening, water play, yoga and more. The camp also has chefs, farmers and nutritional experts throughout the camp to teach your child and give them a hands-on learning experience.

food-scouts_garden_gg-blueberry-group_4x6_web

Camp Food Sprouts offers invaluable life skills and arts that your child may not experience at home or at another camp. This is truly a one of a kind, unique experience that your child will learn from and take with them throughout their life.

If your child is between 6 and 12 years old and interested in cooking, baking, gardening and having FUN this is the camp for them.

Check out more details on Camp Food Sprouts on their website: www.knowyourfarms.com and tell them you heard about their camp on MommyBKnowsBest.com!!

Do your children love nature? Cooking? Gardening?? What’s their favorite outdoor activity??

Lisa is a Florida Native who currently lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband and two children. B.C. {Before Children} Lisa was an R.N. Currently Lisa has a love for hairdressing, finding fun play spots around North Carolina and giving great parenting advice.

My Medifast Progress – Week 27 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Today, I thought I would give you some tips on how not to gain weight.

Do not go on a press trip and indulge in all of the tasty offerings they have to offer.

Do not drink your calories. {I really only had a couple of mixed drinks}.

Do not travel again the next weekend and give yourself slack to eat not so great.

Good tips huh? Seriously though, those are 3 of the things I have done wrong in the past two weeks when it comes to my weight loss.

It’s really easy to focus on the negative, so I’m going to step out of my box here and list a few things that I did right these past two weeks.

I didn’t go off plan for every meal. I did exercise in the form of some pretty intense dancing. I did get plenty of rest. I drank more water than I usually do at home.

So there you have it, I’m not perfect, {but I’m willing to bet you already knew that}, and even though the scale did go up this week, it honestly could have been a lot worse had I not had any self control, so I am proud of myself for the things I did “right” this week and will continue working on the reasons behind my not-so-healthy choices. I know circumstances won’t always allow for me to eat on plan, especially with my job and having to review food and attend events, but I’m going to try my best and keep on learning.

What’s you’re biggest struggle with weight loss? Is it your will power? Finding time to work out? I would love to hear!!

I recently asked all of my Instagram followers (if you’re not following click HERE), what flavor of Medifast on-the-go shake they would like to see and here are some answers. Feel free to tell me what you would pick.

My Invisalign Treatment Progress and Refinement Plans

*I am a member of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board, I receive complimentary Invisalign treatment, but am posting my own, personal opinions.

MAB BadgeHey there! I love giving tips and talking about Invisalign, but it’s been a little while since I last updated my personal progress, so this post is dedicated to just that.

I’m sitting here Invisalign-less, no attachments, no aligners, nothing, but I’m not done yet. I know it sounds like a riddle, but basically I have finished my initial set of 51 top and bottom aligners and while I can see MUCH improvement in my smile, there is still some fine tuning that will complete my perfect smile. These adjustments are called refinement.

Let’s go back a little. Here’s my last Invisalign progress post: MommyB’s Invisalign Progress. Since the beginning I have been able to watch my smile transform, and even though I don’t have many crooked teeth, my smile was not filling up my mouth. I have enjoyed watching my smile change and even noticing the differences when I brush and especially when I floss my teeth.

My last few trays focused mainly on correcting the overlap of my bottom front teeth. For as long as I can remember those teeth have crossed over, so to feel a much flatter, smoother surface on the back of those teeth is incredible. While I’m not super excited for refinement {to be completely honest}, I am excited about the end results, those results are what compels me to follow my treatment plan and those results are what will encourage me to keep up my dental care after my treatment is completed.

Back to refinement. If you read one of my earlier Invisalign posts, I mentioned the process of impressions, at the time the only option available at the orthodontist were the “goopy” impressions. They weren’t the worst thing in the world, but having a stuffy nose and getting them done didn’t mix well. I have heard a lot of people mention how they hated the process. Fortunately, I have been able to experience both sides of the coin, and with this refinement, was able to have my impressions taken via Invisalign Technology iTero scanner.

After the orthodontist filed down my attachments, scans were taken to be sent to Invisalign to create my refinement trays. {My actual first impressions from January 2012 on the left and a stock image of the iTero scanner in use.}

Invisalign Impressions MommyB

Here are some differences between the two impression techniques:

[badlist]

  • iTero impressions are cleaner (no goop)
  • iTero takes a few minutes longer
  • iTero has no bad taste
  • iTero gives you opportunities to take a break
  • iTero allows you to rescan in the office right away where the other form of impression may be sent back to the orthodontist and another appointment required
  • iTero technology gives Invisalign a more in-depth look at your teeth and bite

[/badlist]

If I had a choice between the two I would probably choose the iTero scan, mostly because of the quality of impression it gives Invisalign but really, I’m not too picky.

And last but not least, here are a few pictures of my teeth before Invisalign and currently, be warned, lots and lots of pictures of teeth coming up…

Invisalign Progress Collage MommyB

For the next 4 months I’ll be Invisalign-less, but am excited to continue to talk to you about the treatment and my personal progress too. Refinements are normal after the initial Invisalign treatment is done, not everyone has refinements, but it’s also not something to freak out about either.

Do you see the progress?? Which impression method would you choose??

If you think you may be a good candidate or want to improve your smile, take Invisalign’s free smile assessment: HERE.

My Medifast Progress – Week 25 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Hi, I’m Jenn and I’m an addict. I am addicted to food. I am not joking or making light of other addictions. I have seen other addictions take over people’s lives and how it effects everyone around them. I am addicted to food.

I don’t know to what extend I am addicted, but I know that I will always struggle with food temptations, and that it will always take a conscious effort on my part, every minute of the day, to choose health over what my mind tells me.

This or That MommyB Medifast

When it comes to food I hear voices. No I’m not crazy…at least I don’t think I am, but I rationalize, “one bite of this won’t hurt” “you can work out and work it off later”…and one bite turns into three, and after I know it I end up binging and scraping the hard work I had done in previous weeks.

In my head there are days where I am so on board, I stick to plan and have few thoughts of veering off path, then there are other days where, I swear, my brain wants to sabotage me. I’ve even thought, “how long am I here on earth for”, “there are other people that are less healthy than me and they seem okay”. Then it’s a matter of reminding myself why I’m trying to lose weight, and why I’m using the Medifast plan.

I KNOW how to lose weight, I know the things I’m doing right and the things I’m doing wrong, there are so many things I can and will be implementing to help me in this journey. My excuses aren’t helping, and I know those voices and thoughts won’t easily go away, if ever. I will fall off the wagon, I will get back on, banged up and bruised, and possibly a few pounds heavier, but I need to keep going after this, I choose health, but I am addicted to food.

I’ve always known that I have had an addictive personality and addiction (in many forms) runs in my family, however that is not an excuse for any behavior including my health and weight, and I’m a scrappy lil momma who intends to keep pushing, even when my brain convinces me otherwise.

So if you can’t understand what I’m going through I beg you to please still hang in there with me, and if you have it in you, even though you may think I’m not doing a great job, I hope you are able to send sincere encouragement to push me forward. If you, can empathize or if you are a food addict, this is a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute process.

I am a food addict and I am not quitting.

Medifast MommyB

My plans are to start to replace things that I eat or do slowly, but build them up as habits. I am trading coffee for Medifast Calorie Burn Strawberry Lemonade Flavor Infuser™ or another caffeine replacement that doesn’t have the calories that my beloved coffee does, or the temptation of picking up a donut or bagel while I’m there.

So here goes!!!

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight
Lost This Week: -0 lbs (but none gained in the past 3 weeks either)
Weight Lost on Medifast: -21.5 lbs
Current weight: 147 lbs

Pant size: Started at 14 now at 8-10!!!

*Goal to new running shoes: -2.5 lbs
My First Goal: -33 lbs/135.5 lbs {since I’m 33, I thought that was appropriate}
My Final Goal: -16.5 lbs/119 lbs {half of 33}

New Additions to The Little Gym

I’m excited to share with you a few new additions to The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman’s awesome program.

Little Gym Classes

Children ages 2 and up can now enjoy dance class at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman. The brand new Jazzy Beast program is the first dance centered Parent/Child class and begins at age 2.

Speaking of dance, Little Gym is now adding Hip Hop classes, yep you heard me right, Hip Hop. These classes are available for children ages 4 and up and are already open for enrollment. Make sure you sign up soon as spots are really filling up!

Little Gym Lego DuploThe Little Gym International just announced a partnership with LEGO DUPLO and The Little Gym Huntersville/Lake Norman will begin their, “Let’s Build, Let’s Play!” events for Parent Child age children in the Fall. Great for parents who have children under 3 who are unable to participate in Summer Camps and Parent Survival Nights.

Another announcement from The Little Gym International is their exclusive toy line partnership. They are developing educational toys/activities that will bring their signature 3 dimensional learning concepts straight into your home. So keep your eyes peeled for these great play tools.

So there you have it, a few GREAT new things that are new to The Little Gym and a few that are in the works to look out for. Aside from the great new programs and classes, also make sure you sign up for Summer Classes, Summer Camp and Parent Survival Nights, by heading to The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman’s website here: TLG Huntersville/LKN website.

Don’t forget to sign up for your FREE introductory class to try it out, but beware, you just may fall in love with it {says the mom who’s been there 3 years ago and on}.

Also follow TLG Huntersville/LKN on Facebook to check out some pictures from their location and see what they are up to!

I am The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman Mombassador, and receive services in return for my work showcased here. The honest opinions and thoughts expressed above are mine and my family’s, yours may vary.

My Medifast Progress – Week 21 & 22 #journey33

Hello strangers! What a whirlwind couple of weeks this has been! Here’s what’s been going on the past two weeks:

Some of you know I founded and run a local parenting website. Last week we posted our last new article as we felt led to work on other things.

Along with that change there has been another great change in our homes that has consumed a lot of time and has been very draining physically and mentally. I can’t mention the change quite yet but I’ll be sure to keep you posted once things are finalized.

Right now I am sitting at the Honda repair shop since my Odyssey decided to start leaking (pretty sure it’s just a clogged ac drain, no biggie).

And the end of school is near so there are lots of activities and parties and whatnot, exciting but hectic.

Plus, in just over a week I’ll be celebrating Miss A turning 6 years old and partying with her very own Lego Friends theme! I can’t believe it!!!

Busy busy busy!

I’ve been trying to stay on plan and of course other than running errands and cleaning the house have not had time for “real” exercise.

I’ll admit I’ve missed meals completely, eaten some foods that weren’t on plan and as usual struggled with getting enough water to drink and proper amounts of sleep.

One other thing I have noticed is that even though I love my Diet Coke I do feel more bloated than when I drink water. I need to remember too that the Medifast Essential1 CalorieBurn Infusers are great for energy AND hydration. They really do give me the boost that I used to get with my coffee especially on extra busy or sleepy days.

Unfortunately, in our craziness, my hand-me-down DSLR camera also decided it was time to go to camera heaven. I wanted to post more pictures of my progress this week, but it’ll have to wait until I get a new camera, sorry!!!

In the meantime here are some pictures of my progress in a before and during collage:
