I am one who loves gifts that have thought and personality to them, not something from a shelf that anyone could get. I want to feel special and loved and YesVideo can help in creating the ideal gift for holidays, anniversaries, or any special occasion. With Christmas just around the corner this would be a perfect chance to create a gift for someone you love.

As a child I loved making family videotapes on VHS tapes, but now we have no way to view these fun memories. Instead of having them collect dust in your house, you can now through YesVideo conveniently transfer them to DVDs. This a great service where you can send your old homemade videotapes, 35mm slides, movie film reels, prints, and digital videos and photos and have them nicely converted to a DVD or Blu-ray disc to view in your home. Through YesVideo you can also add some personalization to the DVD which is a nice feature if you are planning to use it for a gift.

So how does it work? Log onto Yesvideo.com and start the easy step-by-step guidelines for your order. I chose to send some old VHS tapes and prints that were not in digital format. When creating your DVD, you are able to choose special features like a personalized title, background, and music style. I was also able to choose the order in which the photos would be in for the DVD. Then print out a shipping label and send it off. In a few weeks you will be enjoying a new DVD format. This process can also be done through local retailers in your area; visit their website {http://bit.ly/YesVideo} for details.

I was a bit skeptical at how the finished product would look, and had some questions before sending in my order. The customer service folks at YesVideo were helpful and pleasant to speak with. After receiving my finished product I was amazed at how much detail they put into the DVD. It was great seeing my pictures come to life, not to mention my old family videotapes. Plus the DVD also had some one-minute movie trailers that were great to watch.

The cost of this service – conversion and shipping – can add up, but relieving old memories was money well spent. There will be smiles and maybe tears when you view your DVD. One minor setback for me was not having finished samples of the product to view online. While they do give samples of the backgrounds I wanted to see what the finished product would look like all together. The music selection for your DVD if doing prints or slides was also too limited for my tastes, only about 25 basic instrumental tracks to choose from. It was a bit disappointing, but I was still able to find something suitable and with everything put together in a finished piece it turned out great!

Of course, with the right program and a good deal of time, the technologically-savvy person could do some of these services themselves. So, for picture prints and digital formats, I found this to be more of a convenience. This would be very time consuming if done on your own and with YesVideo you send in your prints and you are done. As far as VHS, 35mm slides, and picture reels this is great. It is a nice way to view your past memories and share them with loved ones.

Overall, the services provided by YesVideo are valuable, and it seems they’ve found a nice all-in-one place to get your old memories in a format where you can enjoy them again and again. So, remember the tissues and enjoy the show!

If you purchase services from YesVideo you can get 15% off right now using the code TRANSFER15 during check out at http://bit.ly/YesVideo

Vote for Invisalign™ as the new Tooth Fairy. No, Invisalign™ won’t put money under your child’s pillow in the place of a lost tooth, but in my opinion what Invisalign™ actually does is much more beneficial, sorry Ms. Tooth Fairy, you may need to start looking for another title.

Invisalign™ is doing amazing things in the world of orthodontics for children and teens, and for adults as well. Straight teeth are important for all ages to ensure proper chewing, improve self esteem, and can alleviate or prevent physical health issues caused by poor teeth alignment.

In fact, about 4.5 million people in the U.S. are wearing braces or other appliances to achieve a beautiful smile and healthy teeth, according to the American Association of Orthodontics and one in five of those orthodontic patients is an adult. At some point I may be one of those five patients.

My toothy story:

In general, I have teeth that are relatively healthy, but unfortunately my mouth is too small for all of my teeth. At age 28 I had to have my wisdom teeth removed and much to my surprise I only had two instead of the average 4. {I won’t complain though because I know this meant half the healing time and half the cost.} My teeth are crowded and as a result, some of them are now crooked or overlapping. I can really notice the lack of space between my teeth when I floss and not only is it harder to make sure my teeth are clean, but it’s frustrating as well. As I grow older I feel like they are just getting more cramped and as I’ve been looking at options with my dentist and online I came across Invisalign™.

Why Invisalign is Awesome:

Why wouldn’t I go with braces, they’re traditional, proven to work, and er….shiny?? Honestly, after doing my research, and getting to speak with some professionals at the Invisalign Teen™ Breakfast at Bloggy Bootcamp Atlanta, I learned a few things about the benefits of Invisalign™ over any other orthodontic options.

How the Tooth Fairy, er, Invisalign™ works:

Invisalign™ and Invisalign Teen™ is a really great system for straightening your teeth. Your dentist or orthodontist will evaluate your teeth and then take x-rays, pictures, and make impressions of your teeth in order to map out your treatment plan. {They can even show you how your teeth will adjust throughout the program to your final result. Pretty cool huh?}

Once you get your custom fit aligners, you wear each set for 2 weeks, are able to remove them to clean your teeth and eat. About once every six weeks you check in with your doctor who will check the progress of the Invisalign™ system and after your set amount of trays are completed then you end up having a great smile with less pain and no unsightly metal brackets. That’s a win in my opinion.

With the Invisalign Teen™ program there are even more cool benefits:

They’re clear so they don’t stand out as much as braces.

Invisalign™ is much more comfortable than metal braces and you don’t have to worry about scraping your cheeks and gums.

It’s great for children who are active and/or involved in sports, no more worrying about mouth guards because Invisalign™ is sleek and fit to your teeth.

The Invisalign Teen™ program provides up to six free replacement aligners if they get lost or are broken.

The aligners have a blue compliance indicator dots to make sure they are worn for the correct amount of time.

If you think your child may benefit from Invisalign Teen™, check out some frequently asked questions, watch great videos where real teens and their parents discuss the benefits of Invisalign and how it works for them and their family and get benefit and pricing information to help make the most educated decision for your child.

Or if you think Invisalign™ may be right for you, take the self assessment here: http://www.invisalign.com/Pages/Adult-Self-Assessment-Tool.aspx

Sorry Tooth Fairy, I think you’ve been trumped.

This is a sponsored post by Invisalign™, however the words expressed in this post are my own. This is not a review of the actual services of Invisalign™ and I recommend you speak with your dentist or orthodontist if you have questions about the Invisalign™ program where it is applicable to you or your child.

When I first discovered GummyLump my first thought, may be yours as well, was “what is GummyLump?” What a silly name! I had to check them out and see what they were up to and I found out that they are an amazing toy company that cares about their customers.

GummyLump carries a lot of different brands of toys mostly Melissa & Doug, but you’ll also see toys from Alex Toys & Crafts, Edushape Toys, Haba and more great companies. The great thing about GummyLump is that they offer 20% off on all Melissa & Doug toys. I know I have a lot of great Melissa & Doug fans reading this right now!

I was able to review their Melissa & Doug Trunki Suitcase and Saddlebag, perfect for our summer vacations and trips! I love the fun look of the Trunki Kids Suitcase, it’s like a monster and a suitcase had a baby in great vibrant colors. Fun to ride on, fun to pull, and the girls loved sitting inside it too. Although I know that’s not what it’s used for it did show us how sturdy the Trunki actually is.

The Trunki “locks” with two great sliding locks, very easy for my 3 year-old to do and I don’t have to worry about her pinching her fingers because there are grooves that her little digits fit right onto. I also love that you can remove the pull strap, I take ours off when the girls want to play with the suitcase as a toy.

We also loved the Trunki Saddlebag (sold separately). It’s a great addition to the suitcase and features some extra compartments for “stuff” and a fun ID badge kids can design, plus it clips right around the Trunki or your kids can wear it messenger bag style too. Check out this cute, colorful Trunki Saddlebag:

They have girls, boys, and gender neutral colors for any child. This suitcase is the perfect size for children 3 through 8 and will make them feel like a “big” kid. I cannot keep ours away from the girls and we will certainly be using this sturdy yet silly suitcase.

Personally I would only use the Trunki when travelling by car or as a carry on if flying because I wouldn’t want the exterior to get scratched up, but that’s the type of mom I am.

What do you think of the Trunki? Would your kids like it? Well now, thanks to GummyLump.com you can win a Trunki Suitcase AND Trunki Saddlebag!

In either case I tried out Dust-Off Ultimate Screen Care Kit and would highly recommend it as a great gift to give.

The Dust-Off Ultimate Screen Care Kit comes with Screen Shammy, Plasma Screen Cloth, CD/DVD Cloth, Sweep Key Fob, Dust-Off Advanced LCD/Plasma Screen Spray and the best part all in a great EVA Storage Case.

Our computers and televisions are blurred with goopy finger prints, filled with crumbs, and I’m sure overloaded with germs so it’s nice to have a cleaner that you can immediately see the results and know that you are getting a deep clean. After using this screen care kit I noticed a difference and with one fell swipe of the screen the computer was almost sparkling, yes it had been “that” long since we’d cleaned it.This Ultimate Screen Care Kit touts a, “no run formulation,” so you know I HAD to test that out and it’s true I sprayed directly on my screen and it stayed put, no drops or drips all over my computer keyboard. I was definitely impressed and Dust-Off kept their word.

I love the fact that Dust-Off makes their products not only technologically safe, (because that makes sense when working with electronics) but also people safe, and environmentally safe. I did not love the smell of the Screen Spray but at the same time it didn’t waft through the air or leave a chemical residue that I was nervous about for my health or the girls.

Not only do the products in this kit take care of your screen but you also have a cute little (or manly for those giving these as gifts to men,) key cleaner fob that will clean the top of your keys too, a little extra bonus if you ask me, although I’m not sure how much time or effort I’d actually put into cleaning the top of the keys with the little guy.

Buy your Dust-Off Ultimate Screen Care Kit here: http://www.falconsafety.com/shopFalcon/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemId=122 for only $24.99 I think it’s a fair price for everything it comes with, plus you can wash the cloths and continue to reuse everything in the kit and just replace the Screen Spray (from $6.99 to $19.99) as needed.

What electronic item are you ALWAYS cleaning? Is it your computer screen? Your television???

Now that AT&T’s exclusive contract with Apple’s iPhone is up, guess what……the iPhone will be for sale with Verizon as soon as February 10, 2011. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, good planning Verizon!

The iPhone will be the newest version, the 4G, I currently have the iPod verison, (sans phone capability) I really wish that the iPod had the option to just turn on phone capabilities, but I understand that would boost the cost as well. With a 2 year plan and data pak (required) Verizon is offering the iPhone for $199.99 plus tax. If you are currently a Verizon customer you can reserve your iPhone before they are available to the public using this link: http://ecrm.vzwshop.com/2011_ECRM/consumer/2011_Program_CES/1101_device/?LANGCODE=EN

Personally being a parent I love my iPod because it has so many applications that Miss A can learn from and have fun with too, there are apps to teach her how to draw letters, sound out words, perform match equations and more, plus she’s learning hand-eye-coordination as well as how to use modern technology. I keep her play limited because if I didn’t she’d be on it all day long.

For me there are great apps that allow me to create schedules, reminders of important dates we have, check my email from anywhere and even some great recipe apps too, not to mention a few minutes of Angry Birds to give me a little “zone out time” you know what I’m talking about!

I do wish the iPhone was a little cheaper because it would be nice not to have to carry both my iPod and my phone with me, but maybe in time.

What do you think about Verizon getting the iPhone?? Are you excited? Could care less? Would you buy one?

I really think I watch too much television when I start seeing commercials for the most hilarious products around. But I thought it’d be funny to feature them here on MommyBKnowsBest and in case you’ve never seen them then, “you’re welcome!!”

First up are Pajama Pants….these darling bottoms are not quite pajamas but not quite pants…they’re the perfect birth between the two and we’re so blessed to have the opportunity to look fashionable and be comfortable at the same time!! (sense any sarcasm?)

You can wear them anywhere, to a funeral, when you are in labor, on the verge of a mental breakdown and still look fabulous! They’re especially great for moms and plus sizers according to the commercial. You can even get as versatile as to roll up the cuff (exposing the pajama like underneath) for a different look.

Sorry men they don’t make them for you….yet, and kids, well, I’m guessing they’ll be some knock off coming out soon for you too! But in the meantime if you want to try Pajama Jeans I won’t tell.Check out the website for more information and even an informative video on how you can get your very own pair of Pajama Jeans and maybe even a cool crew neck free if you call now (or in a week, or a month,) https://www.pajamajeans.com/flare/next and if you really do try them I want pictures and a full review!!!

Next up is the iPhone for Verizon Wireless, okay okay so it’s not out yet, but word has been that it’s coming out soon, I know I know it’s been a long time coming and no one really knows when but everyone’s so excited so I guess I should be too right?? I have the iPod touch 4G and I love it, and my cell phone too. Of course it would be handy to have the iPhone instead of having two devices but how much will I end up paying for it with my 2 year contract?? We shall see….anyone else super excited about the iPhone and Verizon??

And before I get off here and get myself into trouble I’ll introduce you to one more New in 2011 product so far…one I definitely can use! It’s….Cami Secret. What’s really great is that we have a bunch of LeapFrog products already, some that I didn’t even realize were LeapFrog until I really paid close attention. We have at least 8 products inbetween the girls! So, since we have so many LeapFrog products that are tried and true, it was only appropriate that we also checked out the Tag Reader and Tag Books. Plus, I had so many of you readers asking me to test it out and let you know what I thought. So here goes…remember you asked for it!Things we loved about the LeapFrog Tag:

First off, it’s very easy to use, Miss A, who just turned 3.5 years old, just pressed the power button and away she went, reading up a storm and playing reading comprehension games using the Tag Reader. We love how versatile Tag is, you can read word by word, sentences, or have the entire page read to you. It’s great to have options for children on different levels of reading. They can share, plus who doesn’t want a book read to them once and a while, especially with great narration?!?

We really like are the “themes” of Tag Books. Most of the stories are based on popular movies but books also include television shows and even some great LeapFrog originals. Check out some of these book sets that we like:

This Learn to Read pack gives your child the tools to learn how to read on their own.

We love fun movies and these two book are spin offs of some of our favorites:

The Tag Reading System focuses on fun and reading but also Language and Literacy, Learning for Life, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Not too shabby for a book!

Tag has real pages, unlike any of their competitors, so your child gets the mechanical experience of using both a pen and turning pages. (I tried to do a head-to-head comparison review but neither VTech nor Fisher Price contacted me). One thing I love about the pages are the beautiful, vibrant illustrations. I also like that Miss A doesn’t have to use her Tag Reader at all with the books, she can just take one to bed and read away. One thing I don’t like about the paper pages though is that, being the Type-A mom that I am, I do worry a little that Miss A might rip one of the pages.

I love sitting down with Miss A and “working” with her, but for parents who are more hands off children may not get as much out of this system as a parent who is willing to take the time to explain, and make sure their child is understanding the words they are reading for comprehension. Often times Miss A will try to zoom her Tag Reader through the book and it will skip words, obviously it’s not intended for this use but I can see many other children doing the same thing. So these are good books, but in my opinion you’ll want to read them with your child, or at least semi-supervise for maximum learning.

Another thing that I love/hate about LeapFrog is LeapWorld. This is an online forum, if you will, where children can redeem the points they earn learning on the Tag Reader/playing games on Tag and play more games, design an avatar, buy clothing, furniture for their online world. The reason I love/hate it is because the Tag and other products remind us to “hook up your Tag to get your points!” And if we’re in the middle of a book it is a little distracting because all Miss A wants to do is hook up the Tag right then and there. The reason I love LeapFrog world is that it’s another outlet for learning. Miss A has learned how to create different types of weather, understanding what is heavier and lighter, and even recycled.

All-in-all I give the Tag Reading System an A. We’ve already seen Miss A read words that she didn’t know before Tag, in fact she read Princess for the first time, with no help, and no pictures. Pretty cool for a 3.5 year old, if you ask me, plus she loves it and it’s not “work” for her.

So are you ready to buy your Tag Reading System?? For your, more than 40 books and activity sets, check out LeapFrog’s great deals at their website: http://www.leapfrog.com. For the best value, go to their Build-a-Tag Bundle and Save option where you get to pick your style Reader pen, and get a discount for each book you add, the more books you get the better the discount!

I know I am trying not to think of the turkey that is going to go to my thighs, the pie that will stick to my booty, and the fixin’s that are going to weigh me down, but luckily I found this amazing, portable, handy food scale made by Perfect Portions.

Now the Perfect Portions food scale isn’t just for people who want to lose weight, it’s amazing for those who need to track daily values, sugars, fat grams for dietary needs, athletes who measure every gram of what’s going into their bodies, and even people like me who, in order to lose weight, need to count calories otherwise I just go overboard without even thinking about it.

Here’s how Perfect Portions Scale works:

First make sure you pull the plastic tab out of the battery compartment and turn on using the on/off button on the side of the scale. (I don’t know anyone who would over look this important detail ((me)), but in order to use the scale these two important steps must be followed.

After using your common sense…MommyB…you can either weigh your container or plate if using one (be sure to zero the scale out when the container is on the scale) or you have the option of placing your food item directly on the scale. *Note, if you’re having pasta or spaghetti sauce you may want to use a plate, just a thought. Then using the amazingly detailed Nutrition Scale, Food Code Book find the 4-digit code. Then, something magical happens….each of the spaces on the Nutrition Facts box are filled in. How cool is that? I tried a banana, check out my findings:

My favorite features on the Perfect Portions Scale is that it’s compact enough not to take up too much of my precious counter space, but large enough to hold my plates and any food I would want. I also love that the Nutrition Scale, Food Code Book has a kazillion (okay I’m exaggerating, but only a little,) food codes. I especially appreciate holiday favorites like: Eggnogg (0433), Roasted Turkey Breast w/ skin (0478), and even a little my favorite, Pumpkin Pie (1569).

Unfortunately, what the Nutrition Scale, Food Code Book doesn’t have is whipped cream to top off the Pumpkin Pie, and of course one of my Thanksgiving favorites, Cranberry Sauce. But guess what? This amazing product (no lie) has a solution for that too!

With Perfect Portions Scale there are three settings, I mentioned Normal, where you place the food and put in the code from the book, but you can also use the Program code to enter and store up to 99 new foods, that’s a pretty high number. Also there is a Total mode which allows you to see your daily totals and figure out what you need to satisfy your daily values. Pretty handy if you ask me, especially since I used Weight Watchers to get my baby weight off after Miss A, I really could have used this scale it would have saved me a lot of trouble and I look forward to continuing use so I can hopefully, slowly, drop some of my current baby weight.

Perfect Portions Scale comes in several cute colors, the blue is my favorite but just doesn’t match my kitchen, but there’s also red, black, white, and I got the silver to try out for my review. You can find Perfect Portions and more details at their website: http://www.perfectportionsscale.com/ or also at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, and in select Best Buy stores. At $49.99 (in most retail stores) it’s a great purchase for the holidays and in my opinion worth every cent. I did notice doing some research that stores are starting to sell out, so be sure to get yours while they are still available!

Perfect Portions is also giving one lucky MommyB Knows Best reader a chance to win their very own Perfect Portions Scale in their favorite color.

Every Sunday we pass the building on our way to church and both Miss A and I have been waiting to see the “Now Open” sign up. Well, guess what??? This is the weekend!

At 9:00 AM Saturday, October 23rd, Discoverpy Place Kids will open it’s doors to the public for the first time. Discover Place Kids is the only children’s museum in the greater Charlotte region and is the third Discovery museum member in the Charlotte area among it’s older brother and sister Discovery Place (science center in Uptown), and the Charlotte Nature Museum near Freedom Park.

I am very excited to take Miss A and even Baby C to Discovery Place KIDS so they can learn and have fun at the same time. “Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville allows children to be pioneers of curiosity, fun and learning; all in a community setting close to home.”

We absolutely love Discovery Place in uptown because they have a great kid’s section, but to have an entire museum devoted to children and much closer to our home will be a delight! This museum is not only for us “big kids” to enjoy watching our children play, but it’s focused around children from around ages birth to 7 years.

Discovery Place KIDS includes nine main exhibit areas featured around the I CAN series:

I CAN Be Healthy — Discover how to be healthy by role-playing in a grocery store, a doctor’s office, a fitness center, a cafe and by visiting a farm.

I CAN Work — Imagine what it would be like to be a firefighter, banker, veterinarian or other community helper.

I CAN Explore Underwater — Explore an underwater world, captain a ship and drive a submarine.

I CAN Build — Become part of a construction crew, move bricks in the Brick Factory using cranes and conveyor belts, and design and construct a building.

I CAN Grow — A special play space just for children from birth to 36 months.

The Town Center – The main Museum hub, the Club House and Town Hall complete with Stage and Puppet Theatre

The Learning Garden – Experience the wonders of outside while playing in the outdoor Learning Garden with areas devoted to nature art, sound, container gardens, digging and building.

If you want to go check out the festivities, Discovery Place KIDS will be open this Saturday, October 23 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 24 from noon – 5:00 p.m. (the last entry to the Museum will be at 4:00 p.m. on both days). Please note that special opening weekend admission will be half price both days ($4 for adults and children age one and older; children younger than one are free).
