A Berry Sweet Holiday

I’ll try to keep this post as un-punny as possible, but I can’t make any promises. However I do promise an honest review of the following products that I received to test out. My taste buds thank you for continuing to read and support my posts so I can enjoy yummy treats like those that Shari’s Berries have to offer.

This season I’ve had the blessing of being able to host a few different play dates and get-togethers and I love figuring out what goodies I’ll be serving my guests. Shari’s Berries makes entertaining so easy!

Easy Entertaining with Sweets

Shari’s Berries products arrive at your doorstep and once you open them from their packaging are ready to be plated and eaten with little to no preparation.

Although Shari’s Berries products are beautifully designed in themselves, if you want to dress up your presentation even more, consider using common holiday food items like peppermints, chocolate sauce, marshmallows, or extra sprinkles.

My favorite products to share {only because it’s the season of giving}, are their Handmade Artisan Sea Salted Caramels, I’m not kidding you when I tell you these delicious pieces of sweet goodness will make you want to regift them to yourself. I love the unique sugars, my favorite is the Classic Salted Caramel with Murray River Pink Flake Salt. This is definitely one you will want to buy for yourself and of course for others too!!

If you’re in the mood for some chilled desserts I highly recommended Shari’s Berries Dipped Strawberries and Cheesecake Trios {the Original NY Cheesecake is my all-time fav, even though I’m a self-proclaimed choco-holic}. All three of the cheesecake trios are creamy and rich and a great, giftable item.

So if you have a party coming up soon and not enough time to make some delicious, holiday inspired treats, think Shari’s Berries for your holiday dessert needs.

Be sure to head to Shari’s Berries here: berries.com to check out their wide selection of affordable treats.

What kinds of parties are you hosting this holiday season??

This is a sponsored post in conjunction with Shari’s Berries, however my opinions are my own, honest thoughts based on my experiences with the product. Your opinions and experiences may vary.

No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls

Thanks to Food Lion and Oreo for helping me bring this yummy recipe to my readers.

Every holiday season we’re invited to a number of get togethers that involve bringing a dish to pass, and of course, one of my favorite events is the holiday cookie-swap! The hard thing about being a busy mom is choosing what to take and trying to figure out how to find time to make it.

I personally love making new treats for my friends to feast on and when I was asked to write about the limited-time Peppermint Oreos, you better believe I was all in.

Last year I made homemade Samoas and mustache shaped shortbreads, but this year, I’m handing out these scrumptious, {and seasonally appropriate}, No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls.

No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls MommyB.jpg

Prepare to get a little messy, but have a lot of fun making these minty treats. This is a great recipe to make with the kiddos, so grab the following ingredients and get ready to have delicious Oreo cookie balls in about an hour and a half {give or take}.

No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls MommyBKnowsBest.jpg

I was given a great recipe from Oreo and adjusted it a little, based on ingredients we were able to purchase and techniques I like to use.

Here’s my No-Bake Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls Recipe:

Cooking Tools:

Sheet of wax paper or parchment paper
Cookie sheets or baking pans to hold cookie balls in the freezer
Melon baller or spoons

Ingredients:

1 package (8oz) cream cheese {softened – the softer the better for mixing}
1 package (15.25oz) Oreo Cookies with Peppermint Creme, finely crushed {using my mini Cuisinart after hand breaking the cookies in half}
2 packages (16oz total) milk chocolate chips melted {can also use semi-sweet baking chocolate, our store was out so we made do}
1 Tsbp of vegetable oil
8 starlight mints, coarsely crushed {again using my mini Cuisinart}

Preparation:

Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended.

Using your melon baller or spoons shape mixture into approximately 48 (1-inch) balls (can make them in smaller batches if needed). Freeze for 10 minutes on the parchment paper lined cookie sheets.

While cookie balls are freezing, melt chocolate in microwave starting with 30 seconds, then 10 second increments stirring each time until chocolate is melted but not burned. Add 1 Tsbp of vegetable oil to make chocolate consistency more fluid like and able to coat cookie balls easier.

Dip frozen cookie balls into melted chocolate using a fork making sure all sides of your cookie ball are covered, and tap excess chocolate back into the bowl.

Place chocolate covered cookie balls on the parchment paper and top with a pinch of your crushed mints.

Place cookie balls back into freezer for an additional 10-15 minutes to set the chocolate.

Wrap in festive bags or place in your favorite holiday dishware and enjoy!!

Don’t forget Oreo’s Peppermint Creme cookies are only available for a limited time so make sure you visit your local Food Lion {or select stores} while they are available!!

What is your favorite dish to pass to bring to holiday parties?

This is a sponsored post brought to you by Oreo. Any opinions in this post are swayed by the deliciousness of this recipe, I tried not to be influenced by the yummy goodness but I can’t help it. Your opinions on Oreos, Food Lion stores and melon ballers may vary.

Atlantic City Food – From the Boardwalk to the Casinos

This post is a product of my #jerseylove trip to Atlantic City. I would not have been able to write this post without the great hospitality of Caesar’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Atlantic City, James’ Candy, and Steel Pier Atlantic City.

While the awesome bloggers from Social Media Moms and New Jersey Digital Moms were enjoying the #jerseylove social media for good trip, we were also able to partake in some of the yummier things that Atlantic City has to offer.

If you’re looking to start off your day with a little brunch, might I suggest a delicious hand-made crepe? The crepe station and omelet stations at Caesar’s Brunch at Nero’s were pretty popular. They also offered a wide variety of seafood, breakfast foods, desserts, pretty much a “you name it, we have it” brunch buffet. Everything I ate was delicious and fresh.

While we were in town we got a, “Taste of AC” at the beautiful Harrah’s Resort and were able to try out some delicious dishes, view some amazing chocolate sculptures, and even try out some new drinks, like this “woo-hoo”:

Here are some photos from our #jerseylove sneak peek, Taste of AC:

Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival Taste of AC Collage

If you like food and are interested in meeting the chefs behind the food, including renowned culinary experts and TV personalities like Rocco DiSpirito, The Neelys, and Robert Irvine. The 2013 Food and Wine Festival will be held July 25th through July 28th and tickets are being sold right now. Head over to www.caesars.com/acfoodandwine for more details and to purchase your tickets.

Let’s get a breath of fresh air and explore the boardwalk. When you step out onto those wooden planks a variety of food smells are wafting in the air. From the standard soft pretzels, funnel cake, ice cream, big-as-your-head pizza, cotton candy, french fries, cheesesteaks, and even the extreme new tastes and flavors like fried {insert name of anything you can deep fry here}, red velvet funnel cake, to anything your heart desires, the boardwalk in Atlantic City has it all.

A few of my samplings include a soft pretzel, but I honestly have no clue where it came from other than some lovely #jerseylove girls sharing it with me, and Steel Pier AC also treated us, literally to some of their sweet treats. I strongly encourage that you at least try one bit of these not-so-diet-friendly must-have boardwalk treats, all in moderation right?!?

And of course some delicious Fralingers Salt Water Taffy from James’ Candy shop.

Let’s face it, after eating yummy, but food that’s not a full meal, you probably want to dig into a great meal right?? Atlantic City has that too. On our trip we were able to dine at some amazing restaurants.

As soon as you walk into Caesar’s Atlantic City you spot Mia restaurant. Not only is it the most visible in the hotel, but it is beautifully decorated, {I swear the white columns lead straight up to heaven}. The food was also very delicious, I loved the antipasto platter, and had to sit on my hands to stop myself from spoiling the rest of my dinner. I also found the creme brûlée to be THE best I have ever eaten, no joke, and it’s not even my favorite dessert, but was truly divine.

Another delectable fine dining restaurant we were able to visit was the Atlantic Grill, also located right inside Caesar’s Atlantic City resort. Only go to this restaurant if you want to taste some of the best food you’ll ever eat in your life, also note you pay for what you get, meaning, yes this restaurant is a little on the pricier side of things, but if you’re going to have one extravagant meal while you are in Atlantic City, or if you win in the casinos, definitely head here.

I was lucky enough to dine with Megan from Sweet Sadie Marie and Sherry from SuperExhausted. Each of us had “the best ever” of at least one of our dishes of food that we were served at Atlantic Grill. I had a “double yum moment” when I chose my burrata mozzarella that came with grilled garlic ciabatta, roasted tomatoes, aged balsamic, basil. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary mozzarella, it’s deliciously creamy on the inside because it’s made with not one, but two kinds of mozzarella. I truly could have eaten this just as my meal, but am glad I didn’t stop there. I also had the best filet mignon I have ever eaten, and I have been blessed to have been able to dine in a few other amazing high-end steak houses in the country, but this was the absolute best.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert, but with the amazing appetizers and entrees we were able to partake of, it really didn’t matter. One last note, Atlantic Grill was probably the least likely place I would have eaten, being that it is primarily known for it’s seafood selections and I have a shellfish allergy and don’t really like seafood in general, but I am glad that we ended up there.

Speaking of my allergy, Atlantic Grill was extremely caring and very cautious when it came to my allergy even being that they were a seafood restaurant. The maitre d’ expressly said that they take allergies very seriously and when I noticed the “Allergy” sticker on my plates I felt valued and appreciative that they took the extra care to make sure I could dine with them.

Here are some pictures of my delicious meal from Atlantic Grill, please do not lick your computer screen, I repeat, do not lick your computer screen.

If you’re not up to socializing or want to enjoy a great meal in your room, the room service at Caesars Atlantic City is not only delicious and convenient, but their staff members are delightful as well. {And yes I did have another steak, guess I was low on iron this trip}.

Desserts go last right??

If you stay at Caesars resort in Atlantic City, {which I HIGHLY recommend that you do, but that’s another post}, you will pass by Caffe Tazza, which is located right next door to Mia restaurant. My mouth was watering each time I passed by the glistening display cases. Unfortunately, I was too busy to order one of their delicious-looking pastries, and I only got a sample of one of their fresh made gelato flavors, but next time I visit, this is on my list. Wouldn’t it be on yours too??

All-in-all my taste buds were very happy with my trip to Atlantic City. If you need any recommendations feel free to leave a comment here and I’d love to tell you more in-depth about the delicious foods I was able to try out on my #jerseylove trip.

Thanks again to Caesar’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort, Steel Pier AC, and James’ Candy for providing these meals. My opinions of the services and food in this post are my own, honest opinions. I am not being compensated for my thoughts, and what you are reading is straight from me, 100%. sweetriot for your Sweetie on Valentine’s Day {Giveaway CLOSED}

Sweet Riot Gifts

I have admitted several times in my blog that I am a chocoholic, there is no hiding it, I have no shame. In accordance with my habits, my husband typically gives gifts that include the delicious treat from the cocoa tree, that’s right CHOCOLATE.

Since February has arrived I’m sure you knew a sweet-treat post was coming. Well folks, this is it. {For today at least.} More about V-day and even the history of giving chocolate as a gift.

SweetRiot LogoI was approached by sweetriot, a fun company of x people that really care about chocolate, but more importantly they care about how their chocolate is made, and that’s why they are adamant about their Fair Trade policy.

First of all, we consider what products we are creating. Are they good for the world….are they healthy…are they natural and fairly traded? Is the sourcing ethical? We worked very hard to find a partner in South America with a strong track record of social responsibility and a commitment to fair trade. Plus, we searched for a product – cacao – which comes from the most healthy & magical fruit in the world. It is a slow not fast food and we’re proud of that.

As you have seen from some of my posts like: Reverse Trick-or-Treating and Chocoley Chocolates Fair Trade, I too believe in the cause of Fair Trade. Please don’t get me wrong, we certainly are not purely a “Fair-Trade home”, because we enjoy other brands of chocolate as well including those you can easily pick up at a drug store, or grocery. However, when I have opportunities to and am able to use this platform for great causes and benefits I do.

sweetriot Bars come in three different flavors:

· 60% dark chocolate riotBars with nibs

· 70% dark chocolate riotBars

· 85% dark chocolate riotBars

I was able to try three of sweetriot’s candy bars and while I am a milk chocolate lover, I do still enjoy a good dark chocolate here and there. Personally, since I am not a huge fan of dark chocolate, my favorite was the 60% with cocoa nibs. If you are a dark chocolate fan however, I encourage you to try each flavor out and better yet, buy some for the chocolate lover in your life for a special occasion that’s coming up, {you know it’s almost Valentine’s Day right?}

Tropical Foods Dipping Chocolate – Valentine’s Day Treats

Dipping Chocolate

One of the sweetest days of the year is right around the corner and celebrating with kids now gives Valentine’s Day new meaning. I love celebrating holidays with my kiddos and enjoy seeing their faces when we get to bond and create. Of course we’re always making crafts and occasionally we get to create some tasty treats too.

Miss A and I made these yummy treats last Christmas:

Chocoley Chocolate

We like to dip things in chocolate because well, everything is better with chocolate when you’re a self-diagnosed choco-holic. We’ve dipped cookies, marshmallows, and carmel.

Dipping ChocolateTropical Foods is hosting a contest asking bloggers, “What are your favorite foods to dip in chocolate?”And by nature, I MUST answer. I think my all-time favorite thing to dip would have to be Oreos. At Christmas time they are extra tasty with peppermint shavings. However, if I were concocting something for Valentine’s Day with the kiddos I think I would make heart shaped cake pops from red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting, and cover in their White Chocolate Dipping Chocolate, but you can’t forget the heart shaped sprinkles. I also really enjoy dipping pretzels, homemade caramels, making frozen bananas, and fresh strawberries!

My awesome friends shared their dipped goodies with me.

Lolli from, “Better in Bulk” has a “unique” technique for dipping her truffles:

Finger-lickin’ good huh??

My friend Michelle from, “Honest and Truly” makes this delicious chocolate drizzled popcorn:

Head here for the recipe: http://honestandtruly.blogspot.com

Now that you’re in the dipping mood too, if you were asked, “What are your favorite foods to dip in chocolate,” what would your answer be??

I am blogging for a chance to win Tropical Foods blogger contest and because I personally enjoy Tropical Foods products. I have worked with Tropical Foods in the past as well. All images posted are either my property or given consent to use for the purpose of this blog post by the image owner.

Birthday Bash – Got What it Cakes

Got What it Cakes Charlotte LogoBirthday cakes come in all shapes and sizes and have been a tradition since the beginning of time when man made the first Birthday cake from leaves and twigs. {Alright maybe that isn’t quite factual, but you could imagine something like that right?!?}

Birthday cake tends to be the “finishing touch” on a party, something that all the guests tend to look forward to and in our case the rainbow themed “4” cake by Got What it Cakes was no different. Owner Mandie Miller takes great care to produce an amazing product that looks great, and receives rave reviews in the taste department as well. It’s no wonder that Mandie and her cakes received a Best of the Best Award by Charlotte Magazine.

Mandie is an amazing baker who comes up with mouth-watering flavors like strawberry fluff, and peanutbutter cream, and is also, “mom” to two little girls as well! She’s amazing at what she does and I would highly recommend Got What it Cakes not only from my personal opinion, but also the many rave reviews I received when our party guests saw and tasted her cake.

Here are some pictures {compliments of Barbara Payne Photography} of the amazing rainbow cake she made for Little Miss A’s 4th birthday:

Birthday Bash – Sweet Tooth Unique Confections & Gifts

Sweet Tooth LogoFrom the first moment I walked into Sweet Tooth: Unique Convections & Gifts, I felt like I was at home in my hometown at a quaint cafe. I not only love the relaxed setting but the shop has so may great dimensions from Sweet Tooth’s own yummy treats to the cozy book corner, and even some amazing local crafts and gifts.

I really feel at home with I am at Sweet Tooth, perhaps because Sweet Tooth is a family-owned business. Located off Route 77 in Huntersville, North Carolina,  shop owners and parents, Sean and Diane Cox, make sure every customer is a satisfied one. They really make you feel like you’re one of the fixtures rather than a customer with dollar signs all over them, {that would look pretty funny wouldn’t it?}.

At Sweet Tooth, you will be tempted by such treats as DeLuxe ice cream, a variety of coffee and espresso drinks made from freshly-roasted Dilworth Coffee beans, a wide selection of SUGAR FREE items, and an array of both health-conscious and sinfully- sweet freshly-baked pastries.

Sweet Tooth is a great place to go to for your birthday party needs, they created these amazing owl pops for Baby C’s party made from moon pies, chocolate sprinkles, M&M’s, and white cookies. I was thoroughly impressed with the look for the finished product!

Sweet Tooth Huntersville Owl

Sweet Tooth not only makes great creations for parties, but they also have a party room, on-site that customers are able to rent out, while not a great location for a child’s party it would be great for teens and up!

If you’re in the area, I recommend you go check out Sweet Tooth’s warm shop and be sure to tell them MommyBKnowsBest sent you!! Find them here: http://www.sweettoothhuntersville.com/

Pumpkin Spice Hershey’s Kisses Review

Being pregnant this time around I’ve had the weirdest cravings, maybe because I spend a good amount of my day-to-day in the grocery store, or maybe because this little one wants different things.

Little “Miss A” and I perused the Halloween Candy aisle to stock up our own pantry and fill our own bellies, sorry Trick-or-Treaters, your time will come. We stumbled upon several different kinds of holiday Hershey Kisses including, but not limited to, the Candy Corn and Carmel Apple but what intrigued me most for my recent preggo cravings was the Pumpkin Spice. Mmm sounded delish.

Once we got home and the car was unloaded, I was very excited to break into this bag and much on these creative holiday candies. In an attempt to show you the insides of the Pumpkin Spice Kiss check out this fun photo.

I assumed as most Hershey Kisses it would be chocolatey, my favorite! But instead it is more of a pumpkin white chocolate mixture. Now I love love love sweets and chocolate and again perhaps it’s my maternity taste buds, but I found this treat by itself to be a little too sweet. I would suggest these to go best on top of sugar cookies or maybe in some hot cocoa or coffee to take the sugary “edge” off the sweet treat.

Overall, a tasty once and a while treat that can (Pumpkin) Spice up your desserts but not something I would snack on regularly, perhaps that’s why it’s a limited edition item.

If you’re a fan of Hershey Kisses, grab some here:
