Teaching Kids to Cartwheel, Handspring, and More at Little Gym Summer Camps

Little Gym of Huntersville & Lake Norman
This post is in partnership with The Little Gym of Huntersville/LKN.

Do you or your kiddo ever wish they could learn one skill like cartwheeling? I’ve mentioned before I’m the Mombassador for The Little Gym Huntersville – Lake Norman and Miss A and Lil C have enjoyed each of their classes and have been in classes for several years. I love that the classes give my girls well-rounded skills in all areas of gymnastics from balance to teamwork, and am excited that this year Little Gym is focusing on specific skills.

This summer, Little Gym of Huntersville – Lake Norman is offering several summer sessions for your children {ages 6-12 years old} to grow in different areas of their gymnastics.

Little Gym Skill Thrill and Super Kids Small

Here they are:

Caribbean Cartwheels & Hawaiian Handstands June 24th & June 26th

Cartwheels and Handstands are the “gateway skills” that will lead the beginning/intermediate level gymnast toward learning Round-Offs, Back Handsprings, Front Handsprings , and more!  Because Cartwheels and Handstands are both “upside down” skills, they do wonders for building your child’s upper body and core strength, too!  Learning and perfecting Cartwheels and Handstands are a “must” for young gymnasts!  A “Caribbean/Hawaiian” side theme will add a fun tropical twist to the week!

Back Handspring Bonanza July 15th & July 17th

This Skill Thrill Camp is perfect for those kids who are ready to learn the Back Handspring!  It’s also great for those kids who have learned a Back Handspring – but are ready for more advanced Back Handspring variations, i.e. Round-Off, Back Handsprings; Round-Off Back Handspring-Back Handspring; and more!  A three hour “Back Handspring Bonanza”!  What could be more fun?

Front Handspring Festival July 29th & July 31st

This Skill Thrill Camp is perfect for those kids who have learned their handstand – and are ready to move to the next step – a “Front Handspring”!  This camp is also great for kids who can do this skill by themselves – but just need some repetition and practice to solidify their technique and confidence.  This Front Handspring Festival will also be an “Upper Body Fitness Festival” of sorts – as handstands and front handsprings are a great way to exercise the muscles of the arms, shoulders, chest and back!

Amazing Aerials August 12th & August 14th

Is it possible to do a “no-handed cartwheel”?  YES – this skill is called an “Aerial”!  While advanced-level gymnasts may be perfecting their aerial or learning to link their aerial to other skills, beginning and intermediate gymnasts will have the opportunity to grow their cartwheels as they journey through the many skill progressions to learn the intricacies of this exciting skill.  This Skill Thrill Camp may be just the thing for those kids who are “THAT CLOSE” to doing their aerial by themselves!  This week may just do the trick!

Camp Food Sprouts {Guest Post}

If you are like most parents, you are probably excited that school is out and that summer is almost here! No more car lines, packing lunches, homework or time sensitive projects. Summer is a time for fun and most of all it’s a time for your child to relax and make wonderful memories.

If your kids are like most American children their summer activities may consist of hanging out with friends, swimming, playing in the sprinklers, reading books, watching movies/TV, playing video games, and depending on their age, spending time on electronic devices.

If you’re like me, you don’t want your kids sitting in the house, watching tv or playing video games all day. You want them outside, playing and running and being an active kid. Let’s face it, our culture is an online culture and is becoming even more so every day.

We all want our children to be well rounded individuals, to have more than we had as children, to know more and of course to be greater. We strive for our children to be both tech savvy and earth savvy. We would love for our children to build a website and to build a garden. The question is: how do we get that balance in this fast paced, media-centered world that we are in? How do we show our children how the basics when that’s not the space we live in?

What if your child had the opportunity to go to a summer camp to learn real life skills while having a blast with other kids and making memories? Personally, it would be so fulfilling for me to see my little S walk into a room sporting a tie die shirt she made from veggies. I am giddy thinking of the look on her face when she sees the first sprouts from her egg carton garden. Can you imagine your child enjoying this wholesome experience??

These are just some of the many invaluable experiences that Camp Food Sprouts will facilitate for your child.

Camp Food Sprouts in Charlotte is a two week, summer day-camp, dedicated to teaching your child real-life skills and ensuring that your child has fun while doing it. At this unique camp, your child will engage in themed sessions that include art projects, cooking, gardening, water play, yoga and more. The camp also has chefs, farmers and nutritional experts throughout the camp to teach your child and give them a hands-on learning experience.

Camp Food Sprouts offers invaluable life skills and arts that your child may not experience at home or at another camp. This is truly a one of a kind, unique experience that your child will learn from and take with them throughout their life.

If your child is between 6 and 12 years old and interested in cooking, baking, gardening and having FUN this is the camp for them.

Summer Camp at The Little Gym

Wow, I can’t even believe it will be Summer in just a few months. I know some of you are saying, “slow it down MommyB, it’s not even Spring yet,” but now is when all the Summer camps, classes, activities are starting to enroll, so needless to say, Summer is on my brain.

Once school lets out Miss A is ready to go. She is my child {probably mostly due to her age {{she’ll be 6 in May}}, who finishes a task and is ready for the next. Actually, who am I kidding, both my girls are very active and like to be involved the entire day, which is awesome, but can also be mentally and physically challenging, which is one of the many reasons why I like to get them involved in Summer activities like swim lessons, Vacation Bible School, and Summer Camps.

This year Miss A will be attending two sessions of Summer Camp at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman. This will be her third year attending. A few reasons I really love TLG is because we get so much out of the experience.

We love The Little Gym Summer Camps because we know they are kid-friendly, and educational. If you want to sign your child up for The Little Gym Summer Camp they should be 3 to 8 years old and bathroom independent.
