Back to School Giving Back

Recently, I had the opportunity to go to Dick’s Sporting Goods store. Being that our girls aren’t very sporty we had only gone to the store a few times and not very recently. Much to my surprise there were so many things in the store that we purchase at other stores currently.

While I was delighted with the amount of product they had, the shoe walls, and athletic clothing galore, what really stood out to me was the way that Dick’s is giving back to the community through sales in-store and online.

Did you know that Dick’s Sporting Goods has it’s own organization? Sports Matter, their motto is that “Every kid deserves a chance play”. This organization helps local schools, non-profit organizations, and sports teams/leagues. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE when large corporations have that motto.

In an effort for shoppers to be able to give back to children who may not normally be able to participate in sports Dick’s has several ways we can contribute to Sports Matter:

  • Round up at the register – I challenge you to round up even more than the next dollar
  • Purchase from the family-minded DSG line – it’s super cute already, coordinates with the entire family and gives a percentage to Sports Matter
  • Purchase a partnering brand – often larger name brands will donate a percentage of the sale of their items to benefit Sports Matter
  • Donate online – take the initiative whether or not you shop at Dick’s regularly choose to give back to the community by donating to the Sports Matter organization

As I challenge you to give back I am also led to do the same. Funds from this post will be donated to benefit local schools in the greater Charlotte, North Carolina area.

While I love giving back to the community, I also understand it is nice to be able to get some perks as well. Some things I learned while I was at Dick’s is that they price match other retailers. This is a great way to get items you need in one place and know you’re getting the best price.

For your convenience you can purchase online and pick up in the store. This is a great way to shop if you know what you want without having to search for it in the store.

And one last tip for all of you shoe buffs out there, Dick’s offers shoe releases on the newest name brand shoe lines, so you have one more place to go to find the “hottest shoe” that you’re looking for.

In looking for your one-stop shop for Back to School clothing and gear, check out Dick’s Sporting Goods and give back for Back to School.

Concord Mills Announces New Play Area

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Concord Mills Mall. I only work with brands that I myself would use or think worthy of promoting to others.

After several renovations both inside and out to Simon Mall’s North Carolina location, Concord Mills, upgrades are here and beautiful.

While there are new stores and restaurants in and surrounding the mall, some of the biggest changes come from within.

Among the changes, Concord Mills boasts updated bathrooms and new flooring that now make the mall much more attractive and pleasant to shop in, and for families one of the biggest attractions is the brand new mall play area.

Sponsored by Sea Life Aquariums located inside the mall, this new play area caters to a wider range of ages. The previous play area was mainly focused on crawlers through young children, but the new area has three distinct places for toddlers through young teens to play and learn.

  • Toddler Pod: Features sprout designs where little ones can climb and spin.

  • Elementary Pod: Features elements including climbing blocks and an electronic piano with touch sensitive pads featuring eight different musical notes.

  • Tween/Teen Pod: Features the light tower challenge and the interactive electronic game, which uses light and sound. Parents can get in on the fun here, too!

This new addition allows shoppers with different age children to play in the same general area at the same time.

As a busy blogging mom, one of my favorite features is the new soft seating area complete with charging stations that allows parents the opportunity to recharge as their children play. I also love the bold color choices for the play area and how open and inviting it is.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the play area your kiddos will thank me. Whether you’re shopping for back-to-school supplies, or updating your closet for Fall, this fun area will keep your kids busy and give mom and dad a little break.

Check out Concord Mills website simon.com/mall/concord-mills for your favorite stores and don’t forget to stop by the new play area.

Comment: What would be your family’s favorite feature of the new play area??

The Children’s Place Online Order Cancellations

After needing to update our girls’ wardrobes we did some shopping at The Children’s Place earlier this month. During a special promotion we received Place Cash to spend on purchases at a later date.

Yesterday I took advantage of a quiet moment to order a few things we were still lacking, excited at the great prices and the fact that The Children’s Place carries size 16 in girl’s clothing. After using my rewards coupon and Place Cash I checked out.

This afternoon, however I received an email that my orders had been canceled, which seemed very weird to me. After about an hour on the phone (34 minutes on hold and the other on and off hold with a very polite customer representative), I was told someone had hacked Place Cash numbers and used them from purchases and as a preemptive strike The Children’s Place was cancelling all online orders using Place Cash.

I received an email with new coupon and rewards codes, I’m a little surprised they didn’t offer anything for the inconvenience of having to reorder and being on the phone for so long. Also, I’m a little apprehensive filling up the cart again and also hoping we don’t miss out on any styles/sizes that we were able to “purchase” yesterday. I understand these things happen and the rep at The Children’s Place has been very understanding.

If you are stuck in this same situation, and would still like to use your cash, hopefully you won’t be on hold for the same amount of time, but be sure to call 1-877-752-2387.
