Daddies and Daughters

Growing up not having a father figure in my life I always wondered what it would be like to have a dad. I’m blessed to now have a relationship with my dad, but definitely missed out on all the fun things dads do with their little girls. Maybe that’s why I’ve been blessed with two beautiful little girls and a husband who adores them.

I love watching DaddyB with the girls, seeing how they talk and play and how he makes them feel special. In our house the girls have Daddy-Daughter adventures where they get to spend the day with DaddyB doing some fun things mixed in with errands, it’s quality time that they treasure.

Another annual event that all three of my favorite people love is the Daddy Daughter dance that our school hosts. I love seeing DaddyB and the girls dress up and enjoy hearing all about their night. Last week they were able to participate in this years’ dance.

{Aren’t they awesome!!!}

mommyb-daddy-daughter

They had a great time getting ready. US Angels sent the girls dresses and both of them felt like princesses. The quality of the dresses are outstanding. You can see the details in the stitching and feel it in the material.

As Lil’ C twirled around the room, {feeling like a princess}, she made sure to let us know her skirt had 6 layers.

And Miss A, looked grown up in the best way possible. I couldn’t believe how beautiful she is and how she’s turning into a young lady.

If you’re looking for a dress for a special occasion, like formal dances, holiday pictures, fancy parties, weddings, or confirmations, I would highly recommend checking out US Angels, they have great selections for little ones all the way through teenagers. usangels.com

At the event DaddyB and a photographer took lots of pictures and I can’t wait to see them all once they’re posted. The best thing is how the girls won’t need pictures to remember these special moments with their daddy.

For those of you who have lost your fathers in one way or another, take heart. I pray that you will find someone who will fill that role for you, be able to witness it in your own home as you make your own family, or be able to help others who might be missing out.

I received free product from US Angels, my thoughts and opinions are my own.

PBS Kids Martha Speaketh Weeketh

Summer is here and what better time to keep your kids learning in fun and creative ways?!? I’m a HUGE proponent of taking your children outside to learn, visiting museums, making fun crafts, but there also is something to be said about educational television programming too.

My favorite educational channel for kids is PBS KIDS. I know the shows will be wholesome and focused on learning from age appropriate characters and themes.

Beginning June 16 (check local listings), everyone’s favorite talking dog will kick off Martha Speaketh Weeketh with three all-new episodes of MARTHA SPEAKS and a new meaty online game, Martha’s Steaks. During the week, fans can watch their favorite canine linguist speaking in questions, in Polish, and even Elizabethan English!

What a great way to improve your child’s vocabulary and open up the doors to questions they may have about where certain words come from or what words mean. I love when experiences spur my girls on to learn new things.

Some episodes that will be featured are:

Monday, June 16th
Thou Callest Me a Dog & Martha’s Paper Chase

Tuesday, June 17th
Alice Tells a Story & Pirates and Princesses

Wednesday, June 18th
Tomato, You Say & Martha Questions

and some great repeats the rest of the week that you won’t want to miss!

Have you ever asked your child what their favorite word is? I challenge you to ask them, share yours and discover their meaning or where they came from. Happy learning and happy {almost} Summer!

End of the School Year Classmate Gift Tag – Free Printable

Every school year we leave a little sad that we won’t see some of our friends. Unfortunately with private school none of Miss A’s classmates live in our neighborhood, but whether or not your child’s classmates are far away or closeby this cute End of the School Year Gift Tag is a great way to express what a great year your child had and offer opportunities for play dates in the summer.

In Pre-K I made this Sweet End of School Classmate Gift, and last year for Christmas I made gingerbread play dough with a sweet gingerbread prayer, but will have to post that later this year. This year as we were shopping for cute, little gifts for Miss A’s classmates we found ice cream scented bubbles in adorable ice cream cone shaped containers. I went with the ice cream theme and created this gift tag:

A Learning Adventure with Octonauts Toys

We are big Disney Junior fans, if you don’t know you should check out our Sofia the First Party Tips, Doc McStuffins show review, not to mention other Disney related goodness, just search “Disney” on the site. On that same note, one of my girls favorite Disney Junior fans, among Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins and the new Henry Hugglemonster is Octonauts.

For real, I didn’t think they would get into this show when they first started watching it. I’m not sure why, but compared to the other shows they tend to like this one seemed like one of the “not like the others” shows. Much to my surprise Octonauts, is one of their favorite shows, and one that they like to watch over and over again.

We love the crew of scientists and explorers that make up the Octonauts team. Captain Barnacles. Kwazzi, Peso, Shellington, Tweak, Dashi, and Tunip to name a few, all play an amazing part of the team work that it takes for this crew to do their job, and help sea creatures.

Because the girls are so enthralled by the work the Octonauts do and love learning about sea creatures, we were beyond excited to hear that they were coming out with a toy line. {See faces in photo below for reaction.}

No joke, this was their real expression when they opened their eyes and saw the Octonauts toys.

No joke, this was their real expression when they opened their eyes and saw the Octonauts toys.

MommyB Octonauts Toy Review

In that line up are some amazing toys that you and your kiddos can collect yourselves. Including:

Octonauts Octopod Playset – Retailing for $34.99 this cool playset is just like the one on the TV show, with over 10 play pieces including creatures, some of the Octonauts crew members, rescue tools, a clip-on Octo-Alert that has original Octonauts sounds and phrases.

***I recommend putting the stickers on before attaching the pods to the main piece otherwise it’s a tad more challenging. Otherwise this set is easy to put together and my girls love the “surprise” door. I like that some pieces clip to the Octopod, but do wish there was a compartment so we could move the Octopod and it’s pieces a little easier.

Octonauts Gup-B Mission Vehicle & Kwazzi – Retailing for $14.99 this is a great piece to purchase as a gift or add to your collection. This set includes Kwazzi, the Gup-B, a color-changing sea creature and a rescue tool.

***This toy is great for water play, and my girls loved that it was easy to get any of the Octonauts rescue crew in and out of the vehicle easily. It seems very sturdy and is great for hours of play.

Rescue Assortment Barnacles & Tunip – Retailing for $9.99 this is another piece that is great for a gift or just to add more crew members to your collection. Squirt water with Tunip, or enjoy hiding the color-changing sea creatures and playing with the clamshell that opens and closes.

***The girls adore Tunip and loved even more that they could squirt water with him, they also thought the clam was really cool as it opens and closes in the water.

Octonauts Octo-Compass – Retailing for $12.99 this is a MUST BUY! If your children love Octonauts, this compass has more than 60 phrases and sounds from the show.

*** The sounds don’t get repetitive and the kids loved pretending they were part of the crew and answering the characters. This and the Octopod were my favorite from the bunch although we enjoyed all the toys.

For more information on Octonauts in general make sure you check out their website Octonauts.com for games and adventures. Also check out their Facebook page. To shop for these awesome toys make sure you head to Toys “R” Us before they sell out!

Holiday Gift Guide Featuring Fisher Price’s Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table

Fisher Price Piece of Cake

MommyB Knows Best's Family Gift GuideReady for another Holiday Gift Guide feature???

I’m not sure how you and your family celebrate Christmas, but we do things a little different here in the B household. In short, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ number 1. We select several opportunities to serve in our own community and donate all over the world with various programs instilling a sense of gratitude and servitude in our girls. We also tell Miss A and Lil C about St. Nicholas and the facts that we know about him as a person.

When it comes to gift giving we give modestly {in our own opinion} to family and the girls. They get a few gifts from us and other family members, and open gifts from each other on Christmas Eve. We also have gifts that we call, “St. Nicholas gifts”. These are “bigger gifts” that we assemble or leave unwrapped. Each girl gets one St. Nicholas gift each Christmas.

When I learned more about Fisher Price’s Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table, I knew that would make a GREAT St. Nicholas gift. It was pretty easy to put together all by myself, it took maybe 20 minutes or 25 if you include me running downstairs to get the batteries {which do not come with the play set itself.} Note to parents buy at least 6AA batteries for this set before you put it together/give it as a gift!!!

servin-surprises-kitchen-table-b-1

This gift is one that you may want already assembled for your little one to play with right away. It’s a really cool toy, that kids can use to enhance their imaginative play, be silly, and have some fun singing and dancing too. I enjoy the fact that the table has different height settings and is so versatile in general.

Fisher Price Servin' Surprises Collage

We can turn the table top accessories over and one side we’re cooking up a storm and the other side we can work on craft projects or just pretend to eat the yummy meal we just slaved over the toy stove for.

The “magic” serving tray brings role play to life for kids when it recognizes the food they’re serving with songs and different phrases like “Who wants pizza?” or “Mmmm, cookies!” There are also songs to teach kids about manners and clean up.

Best of all, being the type-a mom that I am and loving tidiness and order, the table has a cool “hidden” storage compartment for EASY clean up, no excuses young ones!

Today is my birthday so the girls even made me a Servin’ Surprises™ birthday cake, how sweet!!!

Fisher Price Piece of Cake

The Fisher Price’s Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table includes table with convertible stovetop, removable oven and “magic” serving tray, 4 slices of pizza with toppings & pizza cutter, 4 cookies with cookie sheet, 2 place settings: forks, spoons, cups & plates.

Want to add more to the menu? Bring other items like ice cream, birthday cake or kabobs to the Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table for more songs, more phrases, more delicious fun!

The Fisher Price Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table retails for around $70.00 making it a decent sized gift. Check it out here: www.fisher-price.com.

What are some “big” gifts you’ve given your children??

I received the Fisher Price Servin’ Surprises™ Kitchen & Table to review and give you an honest opinion of the product. The above thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own, yours may vary, but I encourage you to check it out for your child if age appropriate.

Play-Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker – Perfect for Summer

With temperatures in the hundreds and humidity out of control it’s nice to be able to keep my girls inside the house once and a while. And what better way to enjoy keeping them cool indoors than playing with frozen treat inspired Play-Doh?!?

I love Play-Doh, and so do my girls. I don’t mind breaking it out anytime of day and creating fun mini sculptures while enjoying the company of my girls. Best of all, I get to see their creativity come out. I will be completely honest here, while I am not a mom who, “says no to dough” {did I just coin that term?!?}, it makes me cringe to mix colors together, because I know, in time it will probably end up brown. Alas, with the Play-Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker, I couldn’t bear to see Miss A making swirl pops and not combine colors…so there you have it folks, this Play-Doh set broke me. {It still gives me a mild case of agida writing about it, but I’ll be okay.}

Miss A {age 5} and even Lil C {age 2} could both, easily use the pop maker to create their very own creations. The set comes with four pop sticks, 4 (2oz) containers of Play-Doh, two pop molds (4 pieces total), and the “pop maker” aka stamper. For $9.99, in my opinion this set is WELL worth it for the hours of play we will get out of it, even after the dough needs replacing.

Play Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker

Check out these great pictures of Miss A enjoying her set and my favorite, a picture of Miss A’s candy creation that she found out how to make thanks to Play-Doh’s conveniently placed demo pictures on the product packaging. {Personally, I LOVE that they do this.}

Play-Doh MommyBKnowsBest

PlayDoh Candy MommyBKnowsBest

Pretty cool huh?? {Pun intended}. This set is great for rainy days too! Hint hint!! Buy this Play-Doh set and more here: http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com

What activities do YOU enjoy indoors in the summer while keeping your kids cool and still having fun??

I received the Play-Doh set and we loved testing it out. All opinions expressed in the post are my own, honest thoughts, yours may vary, but Play-Doh is pretty awesome, so I’m not sure they will…just sayin’

Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins New Character: Glo-Bo

Doc McStuffins Hallie Lamby Stuffy Chilly

Disney Junior Logo RightsI don’t know when the tides changed but as of late the #1 channel my girls want to watch when we do turn the TV on is Disney Junior, and I am completely fine with that. I’m loving the return of Higglytown Heroes, {mainly because they bring back memories of when Miss A was Lil C’s age}, we also can’t get enough of Jungle Junction and their silly antics, and really we like most of the programming on Disney Junior.

Our all-time favorite these days though is Doc Mc Stuffins. Have you seen this show?!? Miss A has the type of personality where she’s a worrier and anxious about a lot of things {she may or may not get that from her mommy}. This show is perfect for her and children like her who get a little nervous about heading to the doctor’s office.

The main characters are a little girl and her stuffed animals. They’re always helping out broken toys making them feel better in the adorable play clinic, the fun part is when the stuffed animals come to life. Doc, Stuffy, Lamby, Hallie, and Chilly use the broken toys to show children different aspects of a doctor visit or hospital stay. Their songs, “I Feel Better” and “Time for your Check-Up” are very catchy and I always sing along with  my girls when we watch. I love that the songs help tell about treatment in a non-scary way. One line from “Time for your Check-Up” says, “It’s okay if you giggle, this will only tickle a little.”

Doc McStuffins Hallie Lamby Stuffy Chilly

This Friday, July 20th, a new character will be introduced to the “broken toy group”, his name is Glo-Bo. Glo-Bo is a six-handed toy monster with the voice of Jim Belushi.

GLO-BO Doc McStuffins

Show synopsis:

“Caught Blue-Handed” – When a mysterious rash of blue spots breaks out among some of the toys in the clinic, Doc traces the “Mystery Pox” back to Donny’s toy monster, Glo-Bo (voiced by Belushi) who had been finger-painting earlier in the day and forgot to wash his hands. This episode of Disney Junior’s “Doc McStuffins” airs FRIDAY, JULY 20 (9:00-9:30 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel and will also air on the Disney Junior channel.

I’m excited to meet Glo-Bo and watch Doc and her team of stuffed animal assistants go to work! Oh and I think the kids will like it too!!!

Have you watched Doc McStuffins or are you “stuck” on another Disney Junior show?

I was not compensated or given anything to write this post. The above opinions are my own, honest opinions, we really do love Disney Junior and if we didn’t I wouldn’t say it.

Little Looster Potty Stool Spotlight

Little Looster Logo For those of you who have conquered potty training you know that it is truly no joke. When it comes to teaching little ones how to use the toilet there are often many steps, tricks-of-the-trade and different techniques used in the process. Obviously because it can be a grueling process anything that makes potty time easier is welcomed.

One of those tools that make potty training one step easier is the Little Looster – Looster Booster. The Looster Booster has no installation, it’s as easy as using a stool, but covers more surface area.

Looster Booster

Not only is the Looster Booster easy to clean but it’s very lightweight and easy to move if you don’t want it in the bathroom, although Little Looster says it’s easy for parents to use the toilet with the Looster Booster in place. Even though the stool is lightweight the built-in grips at the bottom of the Looster Booster help to keep it from shuffling around or tipping.

Creator Monica Mylet is not only an inventor but she’s also a mom, so she’s built Looster Booster from her own experiences with her three children. How nice to have a mom who can relate standing behind a product to help other moms?!?

When I had first heard of Little Looster I thought it was an amazing idea and I wished I had heard about it sooner, but I’m very excited to be able to use it once Baby C is a little bigger.

If you are getting ready to potty train or have already potty trained and have issues with little one getting on the potty or losing the feeling in their legs I suggest you check out Little Looster’s Looster Booster. You can visit their website here: http://www.littlelooster.com/ and check out their Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Little-Looster/122552497774389

When did you start potty training? What tips and tricks do you use for encouraging your child to go potty?

This post is a spotlight on Little Looster’s Looster Booster, this is not a review as I have not tried out the product with my own children yet, I will however update with a review when Baby C is old enough to potty train.

Tie Buddies Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

Tie BuddiesIn preparation for Miss A going to preschool in the Fall I’ve been attempting to do more “school” type activities with her. I remember learning how to tie my shoes in Kindergarten, pretty vividly actually. I remember our teacher had several primary colored bins full of activities and I remember pulling out the shoe tying activity, unfortunately that’s about all I remember, but I know for certain we did not have Tie Buddies, Teach Them to Tie in No Time.

You’d be surprised to know I am a, “double-looper” when it comes to shoe tying, that’s just the way I was taught by family and it’s the way I’ve always done it. Now, I’ve learned the one loop method, but just like learning a language or using a dominant hand, my two loop style is my go-to. Read More
