End of the School Year Classmate Gift Tag – Free Printable

Every school year we leave a little sad that we won’t see some of our friends. Unfortunately with private school none of Miss A’s classmates live in our neighborhood, but whether or not your child’s classmates are far away or closeby this cute End of the School Year Gift Tag is a great way to express what a great year your child had and offer opportunities for play dates in the summer.

In Pre-K I made this Sweet End of School Classmate Gift, and last year for Christmas I made gingerbread play dough with a sweet gingerbread prayer, but will have to post that later this year. This year as we were shopping for cute, little gifts for Miss A’s classmates we found ice cream scented bubbles in adorable ice cream cone shaped containers. I went with the ice cream theme and created this gift tag:

What’s App-enning Spring Series

MommyB What's App-enning Series

If you don’t know it’s Spring by the beautiful budding plants or baby animals scurrying around (you don’t have scurrying baby animals near you?!?!), then you certainly know it’s Spring by the clouds of pollen in the air. But there are no complaints here (not many at least), because I’d rather have pollen than snow in the Spring.

If you’re not outside playing in the awesome weather, like if you’re waiting for your allergy shots at the doctor’s office, or traveling for a weekend family getaway, you may want to consider some of the following apps for the kiddos and one for parents too.

Here are my What’s App-enning Spring App Picks:

Preschool Penguin – $2.99

Preschool Penguin App

Preschool Penguin is great app for children ages 3-5 that offer quick mini games that involve colors, numbers, and fun. This app has great animation and also offers videos as intermission/rewards for children playing. The game does not have an end which is good for continued play, however if you have a smart child they may tire quickly of this repetitive game and not be challenged. Overall I think this is a great learning app for little ones.

More info: PixelPlayApps.com

Champs of Numeria – $0.99

Champs of Numeria App

Champs of Numeria is a math app made for children ages K and up depending on what setting you select. At first I couldn’t figure out how to play Champs of Numeria, but luckily they have an in-app tutorial to help. I would highly recommend using this feature before your child begins playing. I think the game has a great idea but some of the numbers are a little harder to interpret since they are shapes rather than numbers. Once your child recognizes the different numbers this game can be quite addicting {in a good way.} I think this is a good math game, plus you can’t beat the price.

YAKiT Kids – FREE

YAKit Kids App

We all need some mindless entertainment once and a while and YAKiT Kids definitely provides that. This app allows your kiddos to take a iPhoto and make it fun. Choose from face settings, record voices, and let the hilarity ensue. If you want guaranteed giggles definitely upload this free app from YAKit Kids. Warning: they also have a similar app for adults.

Yummiloo Rainbow Power – $1.99

YummiLoo Rainbow Power App

I love this game and so do my girls. Honestly I’m not sure exactly why we like it so much. It could be the adorable characters, the fact that it encourages healthy eating and gardening, or that it’s nicely animated. This game features a garden with veggies and fruits and your objective is to pick the color of the rainbow in order to power up the Rainbow Machine. Once your kiddos play for a while the game becomes really short, but my girls will play this over and over again. Depending on your child however they may tire of the game after 5 or more times of play. I still highly recommend this app, if it were a higher price point however I may have to rethink the purchase, even with those cute carrot eyes staring at me.

Parents: Momentage – FREE

Momentage App

If you’re into taking photos with your iPhone, iTouch and iPad this app offers a variety of ways to showcase your images, organize your images, and share them as well. I use Instagram often and think this is a great way to create moments through using my images. Think of it as virtual scrapbooking in an app. I would definitely recommend this app to parents, plus it’s free so other than storage space, what have you got to lose?!?!

What’s your kid’s favorite or your favorite app right now?

New LeapFrog Product – Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App

This post brought to you by MomSelect and LeapFrog.

Lately Lil’ C who is officially 3 and 1/2 {don’t forget the half}, has been VERY interested in writing her letters, and learning how to spell everything on the planet. She’s even been starting to create her own words and asking me, “Mommy, what does EFLG spell?” So I’m super excited that LeapFrog has come up with the Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App.

Lil’ C loves playing on my iPad whenever she can get her hands on it, 90% of the apps are kids apps and 80% of the games on it have some capacity of educational value, but the more learning apps I can add or use to replace others, the better.

The girls loved “stepping into the world of Mr. Pencil and the citizens of Doodleberg”, and I like that she’s able to practice her writing and drawing skills. The Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ app come with a really cool, Mr. Pencil stylus that’s kid-friendly and is designed to be gentle on your iPad. {Double duty!}

Lil’ C loves practicing her letters, and unlocking shops and venues in Doodleberg and how much interaction the app allows. Even though Miss A {6} has been writing letters for years, the app had some fun activities that she enjoyed as well.

The app is easy to download and even has a free version if you want to check it out before you purchase the full version of Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App. This product currently retails for $14.99 but is on sale right now at LeapFrog.com for $11.99 {price subject to change}

Back To School Trend – Gutzy Gear

Looking for a great way to personalize your child’s school gear now that it’s Back To School Time? I know my daughter and many of her friends attend schools where they don’t allow characters on their backpack, clothing, lunch boxes or drink cups. While I completely understand their reasoning for that specific rule I definitely want to find ways for Miss A to express herself in a positive, fun way. She can do exactly that with Gutzy Gear.

Gutzy Gear are basically detachable velcro straps that attach to your child’s backpack. The great thing about the straps is that they are the perfect foundation for Gutzy Gear Gutzies {aka velcro patches}. Gutzies come in so many different styles, for girls and boys, and cater to each child’s personality. We had a variety of children at our Gutzy Gear party #GettinGutzy, and every child left happy.

MommyBKnowsBest Gutzy Gear Party

I really like the fact that Gutzy Gear is interchangeable, easy to remove AND clean, and fun for my kids. My only worry is the wear-and-tear of the product which I can only find out after a few months of use, I’ll keep you posted on that front.

Gutzy Gear Backpack Straps are $9.99 retail and Gutzies come in a pack of 2 and range in price from $4.99 to $5.99. Gutzy Gear products can be purchased at Kmart, Office Depot, Shop Rite, Target, Toys ‘R Us, Wal-Mart and online.

Do you want to Get Your Gutzy On?!?! Check out Gutzy Gear’s website: http://www.gutzygear.com/, also between now and September 7th, your kids can win 1 of 100 Toys ‘R Us gift cards, worth more than $5000 by showing how you “go gutzy”! Head over to www.facebook.com/gutzygear to participate and upload your photos.

What Gutzy Gear products would be your kiddo’s favorites??

As a member of MomSelect I was given the opportunity to host a Gutzy Gear party and invite all my friends to try Gutzy Gear products.

Back to School Ice Cream Social Tips {CLOSED}

Ice Cream Party

For those of you with school-aged children, some of your kiddos have already had their first day back to school, and some of you have another few weeks before your child starts classes. Miss A starts her first day of Kindergarten next Monday {wowzers!} and so we thought what better way to get excited about heading to school than a party!

It’s been pretty warm here in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer and we love Blue Bunny products, so we figured what better way to celebrate with our friends than a Back to School Ice Cream Social!

Ice Cream Party

Here are some tips to make your Back to School {or anytime} Ice Cream Social a success:

1. Purchase a few different flavors of ice cream. This allows variety for your guests to choose from. I recommend sticking with classics, or adding a little twist. {We enjoyed Blue Bunny’s Homemade Vanilla & Chocolate Swirl, Double Strawberry, and their Sweet & Salty Pretzel.}

2. Mix between processed and fresh toppings. When it comes to what my girls are eating I try to be mindful of giving them a good mix between healthy foods and treats.  I traded strawberry spread topping for fresh strawberries, and also cut up some banana slices, but of course kept the rainbow sprinkles and chocolate/carmel sauces as well {for mommy’s sweet tooth, er good measure}

3. Wait to set the ice cream out until the very last moment. Wait as long as you can to put the ice cream out onto the tables to keep them as cool as possible. On extremely hot days consider putting them in a bucket of ice and displaying them while keeping them chilled.

4. Water play equals clean kids. On a hot day it’s always a good idea to have something besides ice cream to cool the kids down, plus the water acts as an added cleaning agent after you’ve washed hands and faces. We chose a water table, kiddie pool and water slide and the kids were loving it!

Back to School Ice Cream Social Water Play

5. Don’t forget to ask about food allergies. Some ice creams and toppings are processed in a plant with nuts, contain egg, wheat, soy, etc that some of your guests may be allergic to. It’s always nice to check before you buy the supplies.

6. Have fun!!! Enjoy the last few days of summer with great people in your life and celebrate!!

Play-Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker – Perfect for Summer

With temperatures in the hundreds and humidity out of control it’s nice to be able to keep my girls inside the house once and a while. And what better way to enjoy keeping them cool indoors than playing with frozen treat inspired Play-Doh?!?

I love Play-Doh, and so do my girls. I don’t mind breaking it out anytime of day and creating fun mini sculptures while enjoying the company of my girls. Best of all, I get to see their creativity come out. I will be completely honest here, while I am not a mom who, “says no to dough” {did I just coin that term?!?}, it makes me cringe to mix colors together, because I know, in time it will probably end up brown. Alas, with the Play-Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker, I couldn’t bear to see Miss A making swirl pops and not combine colors…so there you have it folks, this Play-Doh set broke me. {It still gives me a mild case of agida writing about it, but I’ll be okay.}

Miss A {age 5} and even Lil C {age 2} could both, easily use the pop maker to create their very own creations. The set comes with four pop sticks, 4 (2oz) containers of Play-Doh, two pop molds (4 pieces total), and the “pop maker” aka stamper. For $9.99, in my opinion this set is WELL worth it for the hours of play we will get out of it, even after the dough needs replacing.

Play Doh Sweets Cafe Perfect Pop Maker

Check out these great pictures of Miss A enjoying her set and my favorite, a picture of Miss A’s candy creation that she found out how to make thanks to Play-Doh’s conveniently placed demo pictures on the product packaging. {Personally, I LOVE that they do this.}

What activities do YOU enjoy indoors in the summer while keeping your kids cool and still having fun??

I received the Play-Doh set and we loved testing it out. All opinions expressed in the post are my own, honest thoughts, yours may vary, but Play-Doh is pretty awesome, so I’m not sure they will…just sayin’

Creative Baby i-Mat Review

Creative Baby i-Mat

Now that school is out I am pulling out the toys that both girls really enjoy playing with. One of these toys is the i-Mat made by Creative Baby. This foam mat is not only easy to piece together since it’s in the shape of a large puzzle, but it’s also simple to take care of and comes with a zippered carrying case {great for travelling!!!}

We have the, “My Animal World” mat that teaches my girls barnyard animals, desert animals, ocean animals and more! It has cool tasks like, “Click on an animal with stripes,” or “click on a bird that doesn’t fly.” Both my 2 year-old and my 5 year-old really get into playing the game, which is great because the i-Mat offers both basic and advanced levels of games.

Creative Baby i-Mat

{My PC is in the shop so my images of the girls playing with ours are on that computer. I will however upload on my Facebook page once I get it back}

This toy has a ton of other features too:

  • Teaches your child 3 languages – English, Spanish, and Chinese.
  • Features real animal sounds and music
  • Teaches vocabulary and comprehension
  • Features a voice recorder for capturing funny, silly moments

The i-Mat is recommended for babies 6 months and above, personally I think it’s best to have a child who is able to grip the “pen” better so I may say closer to a year, but if you want your baby to start hearing and recognizing sounds and pictures of animals you could always click the images for them too. Great for multiple children especially and encourages sharing.

I love that it’s just the right size to include a lot of animals but not take over the entire floor space and easy to store because it’s pretty compact. Definitely a “must purchase” in my summer toys list for sure!! Now, just FYI it retails for $79.99, which to some may seem a little steep. I will tell you in my opinion, this toy is worth it for us, it has a lot of features that the girls’ more expensive handheld games have {minus the screen}.  Get more information on Creative Baby’s website here: http://www.creativebabyinc.com/our-products/

I received a Creative Baby i-Mat in order to play with, er, have my girls play with it and give my honest opinions. All opinions expressed in this post are my own, yours may vary, although this is a pretty rockin’ toy, so maybe not.

The Next Big Leap in my Life – She turns 5

MIss A turning 5

MIss A turning 5

 This little er, big girl is breaking my heart. This year Miss A turns….5. Ack, I get agida when I event think about that number. For me, being a stay-at-home mom and extremely hands-on with my girls from birth, “5 years-old” means she’s growing up. The older she gets the less she needs mommy, she’ll be in Kindergarten in the Fall and inevitably I’ll see her less during the week, and that means that some day, she’ll be grown, hopefully go to college and have her own family.

Now before I get too far ahead of myself, because I often tend to do that, {I’m a worrywart you see} I know this is the normal progression of parenthood, however it seems like a big leap to me. Before she turns five, and goes off to Kindergarten I want to enjoy the rest of this school year and summer celebrating four!

We have decided make a checklist of 4 big/new things to do before she goes to Kindergarten.

  1. Get her hair straightened {temporarily} for her birthday party.
  2. Take a family trip to SeaWorld, she loves exploring new things.
  3. Sign her up for a semi-competitive sport.
  4. Invite one of her friends over for a sleepover.
I think these “goals” will not only help us transition from preschooler to big girl, but make the rest of our time before Kindergarten starts even that more memorable.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Floor Easel Giveaway {CLOSED}

Melissa & Doug Art EaselLittle Miss A has always been a very artistic girl. Even from the time she started to draw she was creating faces with cheeks, ears, eyebrows, something you rarely see in young children, and she really has had a passion for it ever since.

We were lucky enough to try out the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Standing Easel as pictured left. There are so many great things about Melissa & Doug that I love so I figured I would probably adore this “art center” as we like to call it.

First off, it was very simple to put together by myself, both kids were resting though so that helped for sure. The only small issue I had was that some of the pegs screw thread was covered by plastic, for the most part I could screw through but Melissa & Doug did send me a couple of replacement pegs right away.

The best thing about the Melissa & Doug Easel is that it’s so versatile. One side of the Easel features a white board with an open tray for crayons, markers, any art supplies you can think of, and the opposite side has an old-school green chalkboard with spots for paint jars and painting supplies. I also LOVED that I was able to adjust the height of the boards so that the easel can grow with my girls, not something that all toys do, but very important in my book. Read More
