Now you may be familiar with 2 chix from your own experience or from one of my first ever posts here: http://www.mommybknowsbest.com/2-chix/. They are known as a fun line of maternity shirts made mostly for moms, but some for dads too. Well, recently I found out that they not only carry bump-themed gear, but they also carry kids clothing, and it’s just as cute as their other lines.

Of course I had to try them out, especially after I saw that they had this bee shirt:

I am, afterall, MommyB and have a whole bee family on my site. I thought it was appropriate, and the girls loved it, especially Miss A because she goofs around sometimes calling me, “MommyB”.

We also got to try out their “Suh-weet” t-shirt which was a white fabric, and the girls honestly looked adorable in both. The first thing I noticed after I received the shirts was the amazing shirt quality. The fabric was thick and soft too. So many of the kids clothing stores today offer cheap prices but the fabrics are so thin you have to layer so they’re not see-through, or they just don’t hold up. Having two girls, namely Baby C who’ll inevitably end up with hand-me-downs, I have to make sure that their clothes can survive the daily wear-and-tear.

When I saw the fun designs were, “velvety accents”, I must admit I was really skeptical that these t-shirt adornments would soon be ripped off by my washer and dryer. Much to my surprise, {and delight}, the shirts have held up wash after wash. No pilling, the bee and ice cream cone have stayed put, and the shirts have kept their size too.

The shirts are a little pricey for what I would normally buy the girls at $32.00 a shirt, but with the way it holds up and the fun velvet accents as opposed to normal print, I could definitely see this being a decent purchase, especially if it’s going to be handed down to one or more child in the future. Weird to call a shirt, “an investment”, but that is exactly what came to mind.

My one disappointment in 2 Chix Chicklets line: they only make them in size 2T-5 and 2T-6 in organics. I don’t dress the girls identical a lot, but once and a while is cute, {in my opinion}. What’s your opinion? Cute or not???

Check out 2 chix Chicklet line here: http://www.2chix.com/products/toddler__kids_tees/index.asp and don’t forget they also have maternity clothes for moms and fun shirts for dads, not to mention cute onesies for the wee babes too. Check them out on Facebook too: http://www.facebook.com/2chixMaternity

No, I’m not pregnant again, I swear, actually it’s not even possible unless someone played a joke on me 10 months ago when Baby C was born. Luckily, through my circle of moms groups, Facebook friends, and Miss A’s activities I have parents in all walks of live willing to try out products for MommyBKnowsBest. I actually have quite a few pregnant friends, (some of them don’t have a belly yet) but Miss Kim was willing to help me out with this Sound Beginnings review. Thanks Miss Kim!

Sound Beginnings is a Multiple Award-Winning maternity belt that allows pregnant mothers to share music with their unborn child, in a safe, comfortable environment. If you’re saying, “I’ve seen this product a million times,” you may have, but there are a few aspects that make it different from the other maternity belts being sold. The Sound Beginnings maternity belt is one of the few maternity belts in a panel style, making it one of the most comfortable out there. Unlike the maternity belts I’ve come across there is no assembly or disassembly required on this product. The speakers are waterproof and are completely machine washable, a mom’s dream!!! Just tuck the wire in the pocket and velcro shut. Lastly, my favorite part, their Sound Delivery system. The Sound delivery system allows family members or friends to record messages for the baby. Those messages are converted to MP3 files for easy download to your player and straight to your baby. What a cool idea if you ask me. Personally, I don’t know how much baby’s will remember those voices as they grow older, but I do know that when babies are born studies show they turn to voices they recognize, those who’s voices they were exposed to in utero.

Miss Kim’s favorite feature of Sound Beginnings was comfort, comfort, comfort! Check out her thoughts:

“I have loved having the Sound Beginnings belt. My favorite ‘feature’ is how comfortable it is! That really made me want to use it even when I was busy and had so much to do. She seems to be enjoying it to; every time I use it she just goes to town. It has been extremely easy to use which is another reason that I always
made time to use it. I knew it wasn’t going to be a lot of work to get set up to use, so I took the time to do it regularly. It should certainly work for different sized mommys to be and it has not lost it’s snug yet comfy fit even after regular use. The only thing that was difficult for me to figure out was recording voices for her to hear, but that could easily be my technical abilities.”

Isn’t she a cute pregnant momma! The perfect model, can’t wait to meet Miss Kim Jr.

I love that Sound Beginnings come in nude, black, and white and 2 sizes, (B and C) ranging from 4 to 14, but unfortunately if you’re a smaller or larger size than listed, this is a belt that does not allow for an extension. Otherwise, I (we) highly endorse Sound Beginnings. *Contact Sound Beginnings if you need any technical support on their Sound Delivery system.

Purchase your Sound Beginnings belt here: http://www.sound-beginnings.com/sound_beginnings/where_to_buy. At $49.95, I have yet to see cheaper systems being sold, and none of those include the 5 minutes of Sound Delivery service either, or win one on MommyBKnowsBest.

I absolutely love Lansinoh’s Lanolin cream (nipp

le cream), milk storage bags, and their disposable nursing pads, and after trying out Lansinoh’s brand new Affinity, Double Electric Breast Pump I now love them even more.Like my trials with baby carriers, I have also tried out a number of breast

pumps, Medela and Ameda included and find that Lansinoh has everything that I am looking for in a breast pump.

The Affinity Double Breast Pump comes with all of the parts you will need to pump, and includes two extra membranes and a velcro cord keeper for when you’re on the go. I was immediately excited to try this pump out. I am not a huge pumper, with Miss A I never had much of a let-down and since I’m a stay-at-home mommy again with Baby C I nurse on demand, however now that she’s getting older I would love for her to start taking a bottle more

and gain a little more independence for myself as well.

I must say how amazed I am with the quality and efficiency of the Affinity Breast Pump. I hate to make a list because there are so many things I love about this pump specifically. A couple of my favorites things that make it such a, “stand out” product are the great 2 minute let-down function that you can manually shorten or lengthen with just the press of a button. Actually, every function is as easy as the press of a button, which makes pumping a lot easier.

The display is also something I really like because it tells me exactly how long I have been pumping for, (I try to get a good 20 minutes in to stimulate my milk production as well as empty my breasts fully) . The display not only reads how long you have been pumping, but it shows what settings your pump is at so you can adjust accordingly and use for future feedings. Since do not pump on a regular basis, I have mine set on the lowest settings, but with 14 total settings you can try out whatever works best for you.

Lansinoh Affinity Breast Pump pieces are simple to assemble and easy to clean, I clean mine by hand but some of the pieces are even dishwasher safe, giving moms a little bit more time with their children and less time in the sink. As I continue to type about the great advantages of the Affinity I see this post growing longer and longer, but if you’ll just stick tight with me you’ll be glad you read to the last sentence.

Not only does this pump have amazing qualities listed above, but in some cases the Affinity is more than half as much money as it’s competitors. Being a stay-at-home mom or even a mom on a budget if I find a product that has all the qualities that I love AND it’s super affordable my choice is an easy one. In fact, I went to http://www.target.com on September 12th only to get an exact price for you, only to find out that the Lansinoh Affinity Breast Pump had been sold out, I’ll let that speak for itself. *Note as of 9/12/10 I did find it at both Walmart and Amazon for $131.94, in case you don’t know, that’s an insane price for a double, electric, breast pump.

I also looked up replacement parts because I know a lot of you mommies like to have 2 sets, one while you’re cleaning the other or if you’re a travelling/working mom one for home and one for another location. The prices on the replacement parts/additional parts are amazing! From as low as $0.75 and you can even purchase a carrying case for around $35 and still check out at a fraction of the competitors cost.

As if being easy to use, clean, and being affordable aren’t enough great qualities in a breast pump my all-time, #1 favorite thing about the Affinity Breast Pump is…..that it’s a closed system. If you’re not familiar with the term, “closed system,” you can check this site: Open System vs Closed System but basically a closed system is one where external entities, like dust, smoke, pet dander, bacterial and more gross stuff don’t get into your milk while pumping. I like a closed system for a couple of reasons, the obvious being that gross stuff doesn’t get into my milk but also I can lend my pump to other moms knowing full well that their milk will not be contaminated either, plus, you don’t need to wash the tubing, a few less things I need to worry about.

I would highly, highly recommend this pump to any mom, whether you’re a once-in-a-while pumper or you pump at every feeding this pump will certainly meet and exceed your expectations.

I’d love to say that I’m giving one of these away to a lucky MommyB Knows Best reader, but unfortunately since they are such a great product they’re not currently doing a giveaway. However…if I may persuade you to inquire about a “future giveaway” on MommyB Knows Best. If you are interested and are on Facebook or Twitter send @LansinohUSA a quick message or status update, something along the lines of, “Saw your review on @MommyBKnowsBest, would love to see a giveaway on her site.” Perhaps then, magically, with the help of some little elves and singing birdies, I may have the opportunity to do a giveaway. In the meantime, trust that this is an amazing product.

Please help me welcome guest blogger, Jessica, she is a proud stay at home mother of an almost three year old boy and a brand new daughter. In her spare time (yeah right) she likes to cook, garden, make baby food and maybe raise some hens, if she can convince her husband. She has fun raising her kids in Oak Park, Illinois and has tried out some pretty cool products, her first being Modest Middles.

Breast feeding my two children has been one of the most important commitments I have made to them in their lives. The emotional connection I have with them as well as the health benefits for both of us has been wonderful. It is a commitment though! With my first child, I was very modest and discreet about nursing him. Sometimes I would even go into restrooms to nurse just because I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable. Sitting in a restroom nursing is not the most pleasant especially if they don’t have a “mothers room.” Covering him up with blankets just seemed like it was too hot (he was born in August). No blanket or “hooter hider” ever covered me enough. I always felt like my wobbly bits were hanging out. Anyone who is a mother knows what areas I’m speaking of – your tummy, your sides and now newly huge breasts full of milk! Let’s not forget to mention the juggling act that has to be preformed when getting your breast OUT of your bra to nurse, then back IN with the nursing pad – with one hand because you still have to hold the baby right? Wait, we are sweating too right? Maybe crying too? Love those hormones! Or how about us mom’s of toddlers and infants. Ever try chasing a toddler around while nursing? At home it’s okay – in public….. not so much.
Ahhhhhhh…. makes going out tough.

We are in luck ladies, because an ingenious mother of five, Amy Maschue, invented a simple yet very effective garment to help us all out in these moments. They are called Modest Middles and bascially it is a camisole/tank top with the neck cut out to fit underneath your bra. So bascially, you can lift up your shirt to nurse and your back, tummy and sides are all covered. My mother found this for me and sent me three. They come in nude, black, and white. I used them immediately. What a difference this makes when nursing. I did not feel uncovered at all!! In fact it has empowered me to nurse my daughter wherever and whenever. At the same time, if i need to run after my son, I can without being exposed. I’m sure people still know I’m nursing, and that’s fine with me. The point is I feel comfortable and therefore, my baby is getting nourishment from a relaxed mommy instead of a mommy who is fidgety and nervous she is showing the world her deflated tummy. Just to show you how comfortable I am, I nursed my daughter on the ‘L Train’ the other day and I didn’t even THINK about it.

The quality of these shirts are great. The fabric is light weight and breathable with a little stretch to them. I thought at first that they would be too hot under my shirt but they really aren’t at all. The instructions say to hand wash them and lay them flat to dry. I’ve washed and dried mine a couple of times (whoops! sleep delirium!) and I didn’t ruin them. The fabric does not pill and any stains I’ve had on them seem to come out with some stain remover. The shirts are made in a number of different sizes and are extra long so no matter what size you get, you are able to tuck them in or wear them out but most importantly you are covered up. The shirts are $29.99, a small price in my mind for the convenience they have provided me. When I received the “middles” it was hand addressed to me by Amy I’m sure. I always like supporting other moms so I immediately order two more.

To me these have been added to my ‘mommy must haves’ right next to the oxyclean, the Lansinoh and boppy pillow! Anyone I know who is having a baby or who is newly nursing is getting a Modest Middle from me. A simple solution for the nursing mother!

What are your mommy “Must haves?”

You can surprise the family with a party, you can congratulate them by making meals after the baby comes, or you can welcome the baby with the cutest yard sign ever.

Storks & Signs Unlimited is a great company that was started by Jamie Hidalgo in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area, and has expanded to include areas in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, California, and even Kansas!

These signs are an amazing way to help welcome a new baby (or 2,3,4…) into the world and put a smile on new parents’ faces. One of my very close friends welcomed a darling daughter to her family this month and with the help of Storks & Signs Unlimited I was able to have a surprise sign made up in Baby C’s honor. (Yes her new baby is a C as well.)

I HAD to drive past their house and take some pictures and of course see it in person. Here’s what I saw:

and I thought it was absolutely adorable! Don’t you??? I love the cute, larger-than-life baby girl in her polka dot jammies with the teddy bear keepsake that says it all. I know personally if I had this little, er, big one sitting on my front yard when my Baby C was born, I would have felt very loved and maybe a few more neighbors would have made me some dinner, come bearing gifts, or come just to meet our sweet darling and check in on us.

Storks & Signs Unlimited also has a selection of announcement Stork signs, which are very popular, along with their one-of-a-kind Baby signs. Along with these great signs, they also offer baby door signs, balloon bouquets, and the cutest proud sibling teddy bear add-ons. Each of those cute teddy bears include baby’s name, weight, length, and date of birth and are yours to keep when you rent the New Baby Yard Display.

Not only did I get amazing customer service when I ordered the sign, all the details were correct and when it came to delivery no one even heard Storks & Signs put up the sign in the middle of the night. I even got a text when Mom and Dad arrived home, “Home now-it is SO freakin adorable!!!!!!” Based on my experience and the reaction that it got, I would recommend this to anyone who wants to give a great, welcoming gift to new babies and parents, and if you split up the cost between a few neighbors, or family and friends it really can be a pretty economical, yet “wow-ing” gift.

Make sure you order yours ahead of time, you can place your order by phone or online and rentals can last from 7 days to 10 days. Check out all of the fun selections here: http://www.storksandsigns.com/ or call 1-866-961-7446!

The first time I became a mom everything was new to me, even from the moments after recovering from my c-section. This time around, with Baby C, I decided that a lot of things would be different. From what I packed in my hospital bag to the way I nursed and even the way I put Baby C down for naps and sleep.

A few other decisions I had made were regarding choices that were hopefully going to make my stay in the hospital and even being at home easier. With Little Miss A I wore the hospital gown the entire time I was in the hospital, which was fine, but this time I thought wearing something different during my stay would make me feel more fresh and prettier, so I opted for Japanese Weekend Maternity wear. Let me tell you I am so glad that I found Japanese Weekend Maternity!

Not only do they have a great selection of maternity clothes, but they also have some amazing nursing clothes and in some cases the clothes can do double duty, maternity and nursing garmets. I was able to try out a few of the great nursing options that Japanese Weekend has to offer, actually the second day in the hospital I wore this nursing nightgown:

It was so comfortable and it made nursing so simple, I didn’t have to worry about buttoning up my hospital gown and I looked super cute too. I love this maternity night gown because it has great coverage and is very stretchy. Right after I had Baby C up to now it fits me comfortably, and of course I enjoy seeing the night gown get looser and looser as my baby weight falls off. Here’s a rare picture of me (and my girls), notice the beautiful Japanese Weekend nightgown and my happy face.

I also tried the nursing cami nightgown with the matching robe, this nightgown quickly became my favorite nightgown pre, during, and post pregnancy, basically ever. This nightgown and robe’s online description states that they are super soft, and, well you’d better believe it. This set is one of the most comfortable things that I own. Again, it’s super easy to nurse Baby C with the cami nightgown and when I had company over in Baby C’s first few weeks I would just throw on the robe and be completely covered. I love the pretty pattern and the ruffles on the robe made me feel so girly, honestly if I could get away with wearing this nightgown out of the house I totally would. (Don’t judge unless you’ve tried one on!!)

In case I wasn’t clear enough in the above paragraph, I’d highly recommend the robe along with the night gown, the best part is that you can buy them as a set!! PS for some reason the photo here shows the robe shorter, but it’s actually the same length as the nightgown, I promise!

And a little something for the mommies trying to get their pre-baby body back, the Nursing Body Shaper Top:

This top is great for sucking the belly in so you can fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes, look a little slimmer, and help your belly to shrink, which I know as a mom every mom wants. I love the wide straps because they don’t dig into your shoulder. The top makes it really easy to nurse as well, something I ALWAYS have to think about these days. I also appreciate that Japanese Weekend makes this top in Black and Nude. I got the Black and love it, but would probably recommend the Nude more because it seems like you’d probably be able to wear it under more garments without it showing through.

Now I know that some of Japanese Weekend Maternity’s clothing may seem a little pricey for some of you mommas out there. Well, you can take my word for it that these pieces are great quality and have lasted through my hospital stay, spit up, several washes, and very late nights. These pieces make great gifts for mom-to-be and new mommies, so keep that in mind, dads, kids, grandparents!

And if you’re still hesitant to try something at full price, check out their Sale and Discount sections on their website here: http://www.japaneseweekend.com and see how quickly you fall in love with their flattering clothes. I only wish I knew about Japanese Weekend when I was shopping for maternity clothes. Enjoy browsing through their inventory!

What was/is your favorite piece of maternity clothing you’ve owned and couldn’t live without?

I really wanted to win one just in time for Baby C’s birth and I did!

I was so excited to win that I sent a mass email, posted on Facebook several times and hounded every person I knew, family or friends to give me their number so they could get in on the baby information fun.I have so many things I loved about Baby’s First Phone Call (BFPC) and here are a few:

- It’s so simple to add phone numbers, I love that you can choose what time of the day is best to call people on the list because, well, let’s face it sometimes babies don’t come between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.

- You can make one phone call for several people saving you time to spend with your loved ones and of course your new little one. I think I added around 40 people to my list, and BFPC is great too because they have different packages based on the number of people you’d like to have called.

- People can leave you responses to your message and you can listen back to them on the site. As much as I love this feature we did have a couple of people who said they tried to respond but the system didn’t work for them, but we got our message out and that was really what we’d intended.

Everyone who was on our list got our message. Another great thing about BFPC is that if the call is not answered it will leave a voicemail message, one setback to this system is that a few people listened to the message but didn’t hear all of the details and there was no playback setting, this is the one recommendation I would make to Baby’s First Phone Call that they have an option to replay the message once it’s been played.

All in all I loved this service so much that I had to get one for my friend who just recently delivered her baby. I’d recommend it for all expecting parents and it makes a great baby shower gift as well. That way you know you won’t miss anyone or have any hard feelings when baby call time comes.

Baby’s First Phone Call is currently only set up to send out calls to US phone numbers, sorry Canadian and out of country MommyB Knows Best readers!! For everyone else check out Baby’s First Phone Call’s website to buy your own message service for you or someone you know: http://www.babysfirstphonecall.com/BFPC/announcementcenter.jsp

Like most babies, little Baby C is not a huge fan of baths (yet). She’s not a huge fan of being naked and cold and wet, until it comes to hair washing time, and then she’s in heaven. We are currently giving her sponge baths on the kitchen counter, but that’s going to change soon since she has her very own “big girl” belly button. Hooray for her first milestone! So of course we have the baby wash, washcloths, and water, but we also have the Bebe Au Lait Hooded Infant Bath Towel.

Since this is our second child we’ve accumulated about 10 cute hooded towels, but this Bebe Au Lait towel is my favorite by far. In fact, I’m sad when we have to wash it because then I can’t use it. When I gave Baby C her bath using this towel was the first time she didn’t cry during bath, it could have been the fact that mommy is faster at bathing than Daddy B, but I really think it was the comfort and warmth of this towel.

We got to try out the Hooded Infant towel in the Parfait design. Now that I have two girls I feel no remorse to go TOTALLY GIRLY! When I got this towel it was cutely packaged and I couldn’t wait to open it up. The first thing I noticed was how thick the towel was, if you’re already a parent then you know most baby towels are sort of thin, so I was amazed because the towel was even thicker than some of our adult bath towels, if you can imagine that.

I love the size of the Bebe Au Lait towel because it’s great for covering body parts in the sponge baths and making sure even big babies are covered from head to toe. When Little Miss A was an infant we found that the hooded towels after about 6 months were a little small, letting her feet hang out the bottom. Because Baby C is still pretty small, about 8 lbs, I could wrap her up a few times with the towel and the hood, ah the hood is huge.

Aside from these wonderful towels, Bebe Au Lait has a long line of other fantastic products. They also carry nursing covers, bibs, jewelry, and burp cloth sets in several very cute Bebe Au Lait signature prints. Go to the Bebe Au Lait website here: http://www.bebeaulait.com/ to find out more about their quality products.

PS Now through May 10th Bebe Au Lait is featuring a special where you buy any nursing cover and you get two free burp cloths!

I find it so hard to get my 64 ounces of water especially now that the cold weather is here. I’m just not interested in H2O even though I know it’s good for me and this little baby that’s growing inside me. Well, I found a product that makes getting my daily requirement of water much easier. Be Nice Prenatal packets are not only a more flavorful way to enjoy your water, but they also include essential vitamins and DHA. You can drink Be Nice before, during, and after your pregnancy to get the benefits of this all natural product. Be Nice comes in on-the-go packets in two flavors, Berrylicious and Lemonade. I tried the Berrylicious first and personally I felt like it was a little tart. The company adds Stevia, a plant based sweetener, to their drink packets, but with Baby C I have been craving a lot of sweets and it just didn’t hit the spot. Luckily, I didn’t give up on Be Nice completely, and I decided to try out their other flavor, Lemonade. Before drinking the Lemonade I did assume that since the berry flavor was tart that the lemonade flavor would be too. Well, I was nicely surprised. While Lemonade is certainly not Kool-Aid like in flavor, aka super sweet, I definitely liked drinking this one. It reminded me of a little bit sweeter Crystal Light drink but of course with all the vitamins that baby and I need. So when thinking about my purchase from Be Nice I would personally get the Lemonade.

Regarding value, Be Nice is a great alternative to purchasing other vitamin-filled waters. Instead of buying the in-store products you can fill your water bottle at home and pour in your favorite flavor drink packet and get great benefits for a portion of the cost of commercial products.

Upon trying the Berrylicious alone I would recommend this product as a great source of vitamins, but only if you could stand the taste. However, after drinking the Lemonade and loving it, I would say Be Nice is definitely worth the purchase and really did help me get my daily allotment of water in.

The great thing about Be Nice is that you can try a free sample for yourself and see if you like it before you buy more packets. Go to their site: http://www.beniceinc.com/ and click the link to Request Free Samples. What’s your favorite flavor?
