Mommy’s Day(s) Off

Heading to the Type-A Parent Conference tomorrow fills me with lots of different emotions. Yes it’s “just a conference” but it’s more than that. Actually if you were to jump inside my head you’d probably be confused with all of the things I’m thinking about for this 3.25 day trip to Asheville, NC.

Number one I am sad, I am a momma who’s super close to her kiddos. I am with my girls pretty much 24/7, the longest Miss A and I have been apart were the 2 days I was in the hospital after my c-section with Baby C, and she visited a few times with daddy. This will indeed be my first trip away from Baby C ever. It will be a pretty significant time away considering the fact that I haven’t been away. Yes I know the girls are in GREAT hands with Daddy B, yes I know they probably won’t even remember it, and I know I’ll be fine too, but being honest with you all any myself I am definitely a little sad to leave my family.

EEEeeeee Face for Type A

However……………I AM very excited. I get to go to Type-A by myself, {I told you confusing}, I get to go to the bathroom alone, take a shower without rushing, not have to carry around a HUGE diaper bag, not getting up in the middle of the night to check on the girls, and be “Jenn” again for a little while. It is definitely liberating and the best part is that I know so many great people who will be attending the conference.

I am beyond excited for some really exciting seminars, meeting up with some amazing companies that I’ve connected with, including my sponsor Juice in the City, and attending some fun parties and events too!! I get to get dressed up AND hang out with girlfriends, which I have not done in the longest. I expect lots of wholesome craziness, and hilarious memories to be made on this trip.

So yes, I’ll be missing my girls, but I’ll hopefully be kept busy and not miss them too much, plus we’ll be video chatting and I’m sure I’ll give a call every couple of hours or so {if I can contain myself}. All the laundry in the house is clean and put away, I made a schedule for hubby with suggestions on what to do with the girls, I’ve started packing and plan to leave very, very, very early on Thursday morning with the car pointed towards Asheville. Wish me and my 5 personalities luck at Type-A this year, and if you’re going lots of hugs will help!!

I am Type-A

Type-A MomFor those of you who know me in person, my personality is totally Type-A. I like to be scheduled, I’m a planner and I love organizing.

I’ve always known that I was particular. Even in my younger years when I would want each of my toys in their very own spots and meticulously arrange things so I could use them logically. Now that same control gears my schedule, allows me to run two websites, be a stay-at-home mom of two busy little girls, a rockin’ wife, and have a pretty clean house. Yes, sometimes I’m high-strung, and yes organizing closets and rooms de-stresses me, and that’s just me.

As a parent, I try not to overwhelm my kids or stress my perfectionism on them and much to my surprise I have found that 4 year-old Miss A is none-the-less just like her momma. She is exact and wants things a certain way. No matter how hard I’ve kept my “nit-pickiness” to myself, no matter how much we try to influence or not influence our children’s personalities sometimes they just may surprise us.

I catch myself being how I’d like to describe “a little much” and someitmes will adjust accordingly, but other times it really is what keeps me going at the rate I need to to “do it all.” So I confess, I am Type-A and proud of it {most days.}

Type-A ConferenceNot only am I claiming my Type-A-edness, but next week I’ll be attending a conference entitled, “Type-A Parent Conference.” Yes, that’s right, there is a conference for people like me, {and some not as crazy too}. Actually it’s a blogger conference, that I’m super excited to attend.

There are some amazing sessions that I’m super excited to attend, so many good friends that I get to meet up with, and some great events planned out. I also have one of my favorite deal sites sponsoring a portion of this fab conference. A big shout out goes to Juice in the City, an amazing local deals site that gives some pretty amazing jobs to moms, including me!! Check them out and buy some deals in your area while you’re there! And if you’re coming to the Type-A Parent Conference let me know, I’d love to say hi!

Are you a Type-A parent? In what ways?

Momnesia Mondays: Sick Kids

Momnesia MondaysWelcome to today’s Momnesia Mondays, in case you didn’t read my first post here it is: http://www.mommybknowsbest.com/momnesia-mondays/ basically each Monday I’ll be writing a post on my Momnesia, in hopes that maybe I can feature your Momnesia moments as well! Momnesia means that time in our lives when we say we’ll always or never do something and because we’re parents and go through different experiences our opinions change. In my personal opinion having Momnesia is good, it means there’s growth and acceptance going on.

This week’s topic is on sick kids. With cold and flu season in full effect this is certainly a hot topic. I see parents with sick children everywhere I go, the store, the bank, play areas, and even at activities we attend. The runny noses beget the coughing and the coughing begets the sneezes, then tissues are flying. Unfortunately, I am no stranger to kids with colds and while I used to be the mom who kept her sick kiddo home 24/7 until she was sniffle free, even if it did take 3 weeks that’s just not an option for me anymore.

I’m the mom that’s baby has a crusty nose while she throws boxes of tissues and lunch meat in the shopping cart, I’m the mom that’s kids are coughing away in the back seat of the car even though they’ve been cold free for weeks, and I’ll admit sometimes I feel like other parents are looking at me, just like I looked at “those” parents wondering why the heck I’d bring my kids out.

Just like some of you I’m sure you can commiserate with me when:

  • you have not one edible item in your fridge and HAVE to go grocery shopping
  • your kids really aren’t sick but they just sound like it
  • your use the “I think they’re teething” line, even when you know they’re coming down with a cold, come on you know you do it!
  • you’ve been stuck in the house for 2 weeks with sick kiddos and get yet another round of sickness
  • you’re so over cold and flu season and can’t wait for the fresh spring air

So whether your son’s runny nose is teething or not, I promise I won’t judge you, but know that I may spray my kid down with Lysol and hand sanitizer after our encounter 🙂 and won’t be offended if you do the same to me too!

Have a Momnesia Moment?? Send it to me at mommybknowsbest{at}gmail{dot}com and I’ll review it for an upcoming Momnesia Monday post!

MommyB’s Q-Vids Week #3

Thanks everyone for your responses to last week’s question: “What is one piece of advice you’d give to new or expecting parents.” I loved all the great comments, and know that my soon-to-be parents will too. My favorites were from Andrea and Tina.

Andrea says a lot to the effect that no matter how much you prepare you just don’t know how things will go, and I love her advice to “Take each day as it comes, accept all the help that is offered to you and don’t sweat the small stuff!”

And I loved Tina’s comment because she talks about the fact that our children just know that we’re doing the best, not that we didn’t use a wipes warmer or swaddle them just right. “When I couldn’t figure out what it was he wanted, he wasn’t thinking to himself, ““Sheesh, can I get a refund?”” No, the most important thing was that he knew he was loved and that his mama was trying her hardest to give him exactly what he needed. That love permeated through him and because of that, there was no way I could fail him.”

This week’s question is a little more intrusive and I hope that encourages more people to participate, I can’t wait to read what you have to say, so here goes…..

MommyB’s Q-Vids Week #2

Thanks to everyone who commented on my first Q-Vid, again sorry for the missed post last week, it seems like at least one of every member of the “B” Family has been sick for the past 3 weeks, hope your families are staying healthy at least.

I’m excited to hear what you all have to say in response to this week’s question, so let’s get to it…press play and comment and I’ll be checking back to see what your thoughts are.

Thanks again for watching, and being so supportive, and don’t forget I’ll be highlighting a few of my favorite comments in the next Q-Vid segement.

MommyB’s Q-Vids Intro

MommyB's Q-Vids Okay y’all (as they say so quaintly down here in the South,) I’d like to introduce you to one of my newest blog features since my redesign….MommyB’s Q-Vids!! Hooray, I’m super excited! Since this is the first ever Q-Vid I’ll tell you a little bit about them and then you can grab your favorite movie snack and watch the short snippet of me, MommyB.

~I had been interested in trying my hand at “vlogging” aka video blogging for a little while and one of my great readers, Jenell emailed me with a suggestion to ask you, my readers, questions about life, the hard stuff, and things that would get people thinking. So, I decided that instead of traditionally writing a post I would create a segment where I ask you the question, it’s a little more personal that way too, don’t you think? Thus was born: MommyB’s Q-Vids.

So each week (please don’t hold me to this) or so, I will be hopping on here with my blue-eyed self to ask you a question, it will be a random question, (I’d love suggestions if you’d like to comment or email me,) in hopes that you will take a moment to leave a comment in the form below the post.

So check out this week’s question:

I’m really excited to hear what you have to say, and again, don’t forget I’ll be featuring a couple of my favorite answers from you next week, so make sure you comment away and share with your friends too! Thanks again for being great, and loyal readers!! I’m so blessed!

The Motherhood Parenting Advice Wrap-Up

The Motherhood LogoAs I mentioned before I was asked to co-co-co-co-host a chat on TheMotherhood.com on the topic of parenting advice, namely new parents and expecting parents. Thanks to those of you who came in to chat and for those of you who weren’t able to make it but sent sweet words of support.

Here are some of the highlights from the chat originally posted on: http://beenthere.typepad.com/ Read More

Motherhood DVD Review

Motherhood Review Are you sick of the television and film “perfect moms” who put real mommies to shame with their perfect hair and stainless clothes? Not Motherhood! This film gives it to you straight.

Motherhood is a comedy written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann. This movie stars Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards, Minnie Driver and a few other lesser known actors. Shot on location in New York’s West Village, Motherhood focuses on the dilemmas of being a mom, dealing with the ups and downs of marriage, figuring out the whole “work” thing, and trying to maintain some semblance of self. All this happens in one slow starting day.

I think Motherhood gives, “A Day in the Life of Mom,” a realness. I appreciate the movie starting off in silence as mom drinks her coffee and gets things ready for the day. I did however feel like the silence dragged on F…o…r….e…v…e….r. Also, another thing that bothered me was the two apartment situation, which came up during the opening scenes. Maybe it’s because I’m not from New York city, but I didn’t really catch on until much later in the movie that the family had two apartments to live out of. So personally this wasn’t a necessary piece to the movie’s plot if you ask me. Read More
