Friends, today is a great day, not only because it’s another day to celebrate life, but also because Miffy’s exclusive product line with Walmart has launched.

If you’ve been watching Miffy on Nick Jr. or have checked out her books you’ll know just how adorable and delightful she and her friends and family are.

If you’re not familiar with Miffy, she was “born” on June 21, 1955. Why are you just now hearing about her? Well she grew up in the Netherlands and recently came to the United States via Nick Jr. “Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small,” debuted on Nick Jr. in 2016 and you can watch the show Monday through Friday {check your local listings}.

Miffy stories are now translated into more than 50 languages and the TV show currently airs in several countries across the world, so not only is she sweet and wholesome for our kiddos, but she’s universally age-appropriate.

My girls, though a little bit older, thought the Miffy toys were super cute.

Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small plush Miffy includes a super soft miffy. Press her hand for several phrases and a special Miffy song. Ages 18 months and up.

Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small figurines include Daddy, Snuffy, Miffy, and Mummy, and is appropriate for ages 2 years and up.

Interview with Fresh Beat Band’s Marina – Shayna Rose & Elizabeth Shea – 2Carats – Part 3

It was not long ago that I had the chance to sit down and Skype with the amazing duo that 2Carats is. Both Elizabeth Shea and Shayna Rose prove to be talented, driven, and most of all amazing friends. In my previous interviews we talked about a number of different things. In Part 1, we talked about Elizabeth and Shayna’s musical roots: and in Part 2, we delved more into who 2Carats is and what they stand for and in this very last installment of my interview with 2Carats Band, I ask them some questions they haven’t been asked, and in some cases didn’t know about each other, and of course reveal, on camera the reason Shayna Rose left The Fresh Beat Band as cast member Marina.

Enjoy some candid questions, amazing advice, and get to know these ladies a little better.

I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with both Shayna Rose and Elizabeth Shea, and am excited to see what 2Carats comes out with, where they are headed, and how they’ll change the world, whether in a small or big way, I see great things for this duo!

Fresh Beat Band’s Shayna Rose and Liz Shea – 2CARATS Trailer by MommyBKnowsBest

While I was busy at the Type-A conference I had the opportunity to chat with Shayna Rose and Elizabeth {Liz} Shea from 2Carats band. Actually, this was my second time chatting with these lovely red-haired ladies. The first video turned out like this:

Shayna Rose Marina Elizabeth Shea Interview

It was a straight up mess. Lucky for me Shayna and Liz were very understanding and neither of us wanted their heads cut off in the video {you can’t see their gorgeous smiles that way.} So I created a short trailer featuring “Shayna Rose, who starred as both the original Stephanie Johnson on NBC’s, “Days Of Our Lives,” and Marina on Nickelodeon’s, “The Fresh Beat Band,” and the talented Elizabeth Shea, former Giant recording artist and touring partner of Martina Mcbride.”

Check it out:

What do you think???

No More Moose and Zee – NickJr Changes

No More Moose and Zee – Nick Jr. Changes

No to Nick Jr.?

Lately Nick Jr. has been making a lot of changes, and not everyone is happy about them. First, a new Marina appeared on The Fresh Beat Band with no warning or transition, then Nick Jr. lied about when new episodes of Fresh Beat Band would appear, new show Mike the Knight aired on February 6th in the US, and now a slurry of changes have hit the channel and parents are not happy. Here are just a couple of comments from Nick Jr.’s Facebook wall this morning:

Nick Jr Facebook PagePersonally, I think that Nick Jr. should have learned it’s lesson from The Fresh Beat Band and the uproar from parents being upset about such an abrupt change with no transition or warning. Some parents hate change and will be upset regardless, however I think there are parents/viewers who would have been more receptive to the changes had Nick been more up front with things going on behind the scenes.

Sprout does a great job of introducing new characters, like one of their Sunny Side Up Show co-hosts Liz. Weeks before they broadcast Liz they showed her on breaks in-between the show, they also let children know who the host of the next week’s show will be. Disney Junior too is among children’s programming that understands that children transition better when change is slow rather than overnight. Disney Junior has been showing off commercials for one of their upcoming shows, Doc McStuffins throughout their normal programming and even recently announced that they will be airing programming for the younger crowd all day. {Which I personally am very excited for since we’ll have an alternative to other channels that we watch solely because Disney Junior changes to cater to older kids at a certain time of day.}

So it’s not that Nick Jr. couldn’t transition, however we may never know why they didn’t choose to transition more slowly or keep Moose and Zee around. No more recycling Gnomes on Ice cups, silly songs about candy canes and candy corn, and fun learning games about the hidden letters Big R and little r.

What are your thoughts? Are you bothered like so many other parents, do you want to Boycott Nick Jr., or could you and your children care less?

What programming will you and your children continue to watch?

Welcome Back to the Wiggles – How to Help Your Child Deal with Character Changes

The Wiggles Welcome Back Greg

The Wiggles Welcome Back GregRecently Greg Page, one of the founding members of The Wiggles children’s music group,  announced he’d be returning to his original spot. If you’re in the, “new class” of parenting and only know The Wiggles as; Anthony, Jeff, Murray, and Sam, then perhaps you didn’t know that Greg Page took leave from The Wiggles in 2006 due to an unexpected illness.

Leaving the “yellow shirt” slot open, Sam Moran stepped in. Sam had been a part of The Wiggles show since 1998 and was a great addition when he stepped up to take the lead singer position for The Wiggles. Now that Greg is rejoining The Wiggles, Sam will be taking time to continue working on his own personal music ventures, (he released The Colour of Love in 2010) and also to spend time with his family.

Thankfully, there was a great person who was able to step in for a time and also step back from this position. Sam has been praised for continuing the success of The Wiggles during Greg’s leave. Yet when the day comes for Greg to rejoin the group and appear in his yellow shirt this year, there may be some confused or upset children.

With any television show there is a chance that characters will need to be replaced. I featured this story on The Fresh Beat Band replacing their, “Marina” character: What Happened to the Fresh Beat’s Marina? And with all of the traffic and comments it has had you can tell the change certainly struck a nerve in viewing homes. Recently other children’s television shows that have replaced characters or voices have been Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, and one who did it well, Blues Clues.

Not all shows give such great transition to a new character as Blues Clues with their switch from Steve to Joe, so as parents we need to learn the best ways to deal with these changes, because like it or not, they will happen. You may adapt these tips for your own child depending on their age and maturity.

  1. Watch TV with your child – this gives your child an opportunity to discuss with you and you and opportunity to ask them questions, gauge their comfort with the changes and opens lines of communication.
  2. Do your homework – if your child has a favorite show, why not set it up for a Google Alert or receive newsletters from that show so you can be abreast of changes before they even appear on the tube.
  3. Explain TV vs Reality – of course this depends on the show and your child’s age, but in an age appropriate manner discuss what they think differences between television and real-life are and have fun with it.
  4. Keep a positive attitude – so many of us parents are upset when characters change even when often, our children move on easily. When we aren’t disturbed by things, occasionally it will help our kids deal as well.
  5. Choose different programming – if your child is very upset and no amount of discussion will ease their minds choose to watch something else on TV, but keep in mind characters in some shows may change. You can always opt to watch recorded versions of that show as well to keep with the consistency however boredom is a factor there.
  6. Turn off the TV – when all else fails, or if TV seems to be more of an issue in your household, perhaps it’s time for a break from shows and the television in general. Get your kids interested in puzzles, coloring books, imaginative play, and if it’s nice weather head outside for some fresh air.

Do you have any tips to add?

Have any children’s television character switches effected your home?

Dora’s Explorer Girls: Dora All Grown Up

Dora Grown up April 10 2010 On April 10, 2010, last year, I wrote on my family website about the possibility of Nick Jr.’s Dora the Explorer all grown up. Here is a picture to the left depicting the current Dora and what they wanted her to look like after she aged. But then it was all pipe dreams.

Say, “Goodbye” to Map, Backpack, Boots the Monkey, Isa the Iguana, Benny the Bull, Tico the Squirrel, the Grumpy Old Troll, Big Red Chicken, Azul, Swiper the Fox, the Fiesta Trio, Mami, Papi, Abuela, and the rest of the old Dora “cast”.

In less than a week from today, the new “crew” is making their debut and the pipe dreams are coming to fruition with Dora’s Explorer Girls! On Sunday, August 7th at 8:00pm Nick Jr. is premiering the new episode. Where a “grown-up” version of Dora, along with her friends, Naiya, Kate, Emma, and Alana go on an adventure when they realize they’ve forgot their tickets to hit-singer, Shakira’s concert.

Dora's Explorer Girls and Shakira

Dora’s Explorer Girls features Dora, {who now lives in the city} and her four friends who are trying to make the world a better place by working together. Each girl has their niche, Dora is great at reading maps and being a leader, Naiya is the expert on the universe, exploring stars and space, Kate “speaks out” encouraging people to make things better by taking action, Emma brings people together by making music with her violin {sometimes Dora joins in with her flute}, and last but not least, Alana teams up with others through playing soccer and being an organizer, rallying people to work together.

Miss A, who is now 4 years old, loved Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go, but recently has left those shows behind for the likes of Olivia, The Fresh Beat Band, and even Dino Dan. I’m interested to see if this older version of Dora, and her friends will be something she likes. So far, after seeing the previews on Nick Jr. she has asked me to make sure she gets to watch it next Sunday.

For my youngest, Baby C though I’d still like to see the short, round Dora and her gang of silly friends, or maybe even Dora’s younger brother and sister as a spin-off of Dora the Explorer.

Are your children excited to see the new Dora’s Explorer Girls? How about you?

For more information on Dora’s Explorer Girls show, videos, {including Shakira’s Todos Juntos, the music video/song featured in the premier episode} and games, check out Nick Jr.’s website here: http://www.nickjr.com/doragirls

What Happened to The Fresh Beat’s Marina?

Nick Jr.'s The Fresh Beat Band

Nick Jr.'s The Fresh Beat BandMiss A loves The Fresh Beat Band on Nick Jr. and secretly so does Daddy B. {Shhh don’t tell him I told you.} Nick Jr. first shared this fun show with American families in August of 2009. Since then, the musical fun that Kiki, Twist, Shout and Marina bring have taught and continue to teach valuable lessons to preschool viewers, like getting along, not giving up, and solving problems as a team.

The Fresh Beat Band, was originally planned to be called, “The JumpArounds,” however before the show officially aired the name was changed. Following suit, in this past season, season two, some of The Junior Beats {the mini Fresh Beat kids} and the actor who played Reed, the owner of the Good Note Music Store were replaced. Is it me or does it seem like Nick Jr. is mixing things up with The Fresh Beat Band from season to season? Now that the third season of Fresh Beat band is upon us, things are no different.

Tara Perry The Fresh Beat Band MarinaRecent clips for the show’s next “new” season have sprung up on Nick Jr. touting lots of new things for the show, while also showing off a new cast member, Tara Perry. Perry will take on the role of Marina, who was originally played by Shayna Rose.

Allegidly, Shayna Rose is getting married and perusing other career options that are taking her away from The Fresh Beat Band. I know Miss A and maybe Daddy B too, will miss her dearly.

What do we know about the “new” Marina, Tara Perry though? Perry, age 25, has directed and stared in quite a few youtube videos, and had a tv appearance here and there, but her “claim to fame” is that she is The Movie Maven on Sci-Fi’s Mania.com. For more on Perry, check out her IMDB page she doesn’t have a wikipedia page yet, but now that she’s on Nick Jr. I assume that will be coming soon.

Although the “new” Marina still has red hair {noticeably darker}, and a turquoise and purple outfit, you can’t pull one over my kiddo. I’m not sure if it’s an effort to help Marina blend in or some new duds for season three, but all four of the Fresh Beats have new outfits, and on a side note hubby thinks that Shout has gained some muscle {that’s debatable, I think it was just covered by the collegiate sweater}.

While I’m not a huge fan of change, especially when it comes to television characters, she is a fellow Sagittarius so maybe I’ll cut her a little slack. Honestly though, I’m not really sure how a different Marina will affect the show, personally, I don’t think that it will, especially when it comes to the kids. I think they’ll be confused for a minute, get over it, and be dancing all over the room like with any other episode.

For NEW Season 3 Fresh Beat Band Episode Synopsis and to weigh in with your thoughts, check out http://www.mommybknowsbest.com/fresh-beat-band-season-3-episodes/.

I’d love to hear your opinions on the topic. What are your thoughts on the new Marina? Do you like the changes that are coming to Nick Jr.’s Fresh Beat Band? Is your child {or someone else in your household} excited for season three?

Who is your favorite Marina?
