Well she grew up in the Netherlands and recently came to the United States via Nick Jr. “Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small,” debuted on Nick Jr. in 2016 and you can watch the show Monday through Friday {check your local listings}.

My girls, though a little bit older, thought the Miffy toys were super cute.

We LOVE Nick Jr’s Peppa Pig

Peppa Pig

Family values and spending time with one another is so important in our family of four. We want our girls to understand that we will always set aside time, as a family, to partake in activities, silliness, and volunteering. Having a strong familial bond is so important to us, that’s why we enjoy the children’s show Peppa Pig.

Peppa PigPeppa Pig is a hilarious preschool cartoon on Nick Jr., that aired in early 2001. Before it previewed here in the states it was a longtime favorite with British kiddos, and I’m not surprised why. Not only is the family, (Peppa the, “star” {obviously}, Mommy Pig, Daddy Pig, and George) comedic, but they show what a family is all about, spending quality time together.

The show features so many different relationships; parent-to-child, sibling-to-sibling, child-to-child, and family dynamics as well. It’s fun to watch the entire family engage in each other’s activities and be supportive.

Peppa’s mom and dad help her build a castle, the entire family goes on bike rides, Peppa and her brother play hide-and-seek, and it all ends in loud snorts of laughter!

Not only do Miss A and Lil’ C really enjoy the show, but I like watching with them as well. We want to instill strong family roots and be present in our children’s lives and the best way to do that for us, is to start now, while they are young.

The only thing I didn’t really care for personally are the “fat jokes” towards Daddy Pig, (he laughs them off, but I could do without) but other than that, we really enjoy watching and learning from Peppa and her family.

What is one way that you and your family spend time together??

Make sure you check out Peppa Pig Monday through Friday at 12:00PM and 12:30PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00PM and 2:30PM on Nick Jr. Also visit their website http://peppapig.com and on Facebook.

I was not compensated for this post, however I did receive Peppa Pig products in order to better familiarize myself with the program. This in no way effects the outcome of my post, all thoughts and opinions are my own, yours may vary.

No More Moose and Zee – Nick Jr. Changes

No to Nick Jr.?

Lately Nick Jr. has been making a lot of changes, and not everyone is happy about them. First, a new Marina appeared on The Fresh Beat Band with no warning or transition, then Nick Jr. lied about when new episodes of Fresh Beat Band would appear, new show Mike the Knight aired on February 6th in the US, and now a slurry of changes have hit the channel and parents are not happy. Here are just a couple of comments from Nick Jr.’s Facebook wall this morning:

Nick Jr Facebook PagePersonally, I think that Nick Jr. should have learned it’s lesson from The Fresh Beat Band and the uproar from parents being upset about such an abrupt change with no transition or warning. Some parents hate change and will be upset regardless, however I think there are parents/viewers who would have been more receptive to the changes had Nick been more up front with things going on behind the scenes.

Sprout does a great job of introducing new characters, like one of their Sunny Side Up Show co-hosts Liz. Weeks before they broadcast Liz they showed her on breaks in-between the show, they also let children know who the host of the next week’s show will be. Disney Junior too is among children’s programming that understands that children transition better when change is slow rather than overnight. Disney Junior has been showing off commercials for one of their upcoming shows, Doc McStuffins throughout their normal programming and even recently announced that they will be airing programming for the younger crowd all day. {Which I personally am very excited for since we’ll have an alternative to other channels that we watch solely because Disney Junior changes to cater to older kids at a certain time of day.}

So it’s not that Nick Jr. couldn’t transition, however we may never know why they didn’t choose to transition more slowly or keep Moose and Zee around. No more recycling Gnomes on Ice cups, silly songs about candy canes and candy corn, and fun learning games about the hidden letters Big R and little r.

What are your thoughts? Are you bothered like so many other parents, do you want to Boycott Nick Jr., or could you and your children care less?

What programming will you and your children continue to watch?

Welcome Back to the Wiggles – How to Help Your Child Deal with Character Changes

The Wiggles Welcome Back Greg

The Wiggles Welcome Back GregRecently Greg Page, one of the founding members of The Wiggles children’s music group,  announced he’d be returning to his original spot. If you’re in the, “new class” of parenting and only know The Wiggles as; Anthony, Jeff, Murray, and Sam, then perhaps you didn’t know that Greg Page took leave from The Wiggles in 2006 due to an unexpected illness.

Leaving the “yellow shirt” slot open, Sam Moran stepped in. Sam had been a part of The Wiggles show since 1998 and was a great addition when he stepped up to take the lead singer position for The Wiggles. Now that Greg is rejoining The Wiggles, Sam will be taking time to continue working on his own personal music ventures, (he released The Colour of Love in 2010) and also to spend time with his family.

Thankfully, there was a great person who was able to step in for a time and also step back from this position. Sam has been praised for continuing the success of The Wiggles during Greg’s leave. Yet when the day comes for Greg to rejoin the group and appear in his yellow shirt this year, there may be some confused or upset children.

With any television show there is a chance that characters will need to be replaced. I featured this story on The Fresh Beat Band replacing their, “Marina” character: What Happened to the Fresh Beat’s Marina? And with all of the traffic and comments it has had you can tell the change certainly struck a nerve in viewing homes. Recently other children’s television shows that have replaced characters or voices have been Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, and one who did it well, Blues Clues.

Not all shows give such great transition to a new character as Blues Clues with their switch from Steve to Joe, so as parents we need to learn the best ways to deal with these changes, because like it or not, they will happen. You may adapt these tips for your own child depending on their age and maturity.

  1. Watch TV with your child – this gives your child an opportunity to discuss with you and you and opportunity to ask them questions, gauge their comfort with the changes and opens lines of communication.
  2. Do your homework – if your child has a favorite show, why not set it up for a Google Alert or receive newsletters from that show so you can be abreast of changes before they even appear on the tube.
  3. Explain TV vs Reality – of course this depends on the show and your child’s age, but in an age appropriate manner discuss what they think differences between television and real-life are and have fun with it.
  4. Keep a positive attitude – so many of us parents are upset when characters change even when often, our children move on easily. When we aren’t disturbed by things, occasionally it will help our kids deal as well.
  5. Choose different programming – if your child is very upset and no amount of discussion will ease their minds choose to watch something else on TV, but keep in mind characters in some shows may change. You can always opt to watch recorded versions of that show as well to keep with the consistency however boredom is a factor there.
  6. Turn off the TV – when all else fails, or if TV seems to be more of an issue in your household, perhaps it’s time for a break from shows and the television in general. Get your kids interested in puzzles, coloring books, imaginative play, and if it’s nice weather head outside for some fresh air.

Do you have any tips to add?

Have any children’s television character switches effected your home?

Wikipedia The Fresh Beat Band Season 3 Episode List

I wish I had gotten a screen shot of the image that prompted this post: Fresh Beat Band Season 3 – New September Episodes, however I didn’t, because little did I realized that I would watch NickJr. and check their website the 26th through the 29th (today) in search for the “new” episodes they were touting. Lesson learned.

I am wondering though if any of you saw it, and watched, waited, and watched like I did in hopes of a new episode or more, according to their claims. I’m glad I didn’t let Miss A know that I had seen this because she really would have been bummed out.

If you have a screen shot I’d love to post it on here, or even if you saw it with your very own eyes feel free to chime in. I’m just wondering what is going on behind the scenes with this show, will they cancel The Fresh Beat Band because of the negative responses and feedback that people are giving on the way they handled the Marina switch? Are they just dragging us along and if so, for what? It would be nice to move on if the show was over and incorporate new programming into our schedule instead of hoping to catch a new episode of The Fresh Beat Band.

I know many of you and your children are big fans of the show in general, so I’d love to hear you weigh in on this issue. Are you waiting for new episodes and sick of them showing one with the old Marina and one with the new Marina? It is confusing your children even more, or do you not care at all? Perhaps you’ve already moved on to other programming? Would love to hear your thoughts on The Fresh Beat Band.

Also here is a screenshot from wikipedia.org of the episodes that were slated to be produced, maybe already filmed, who knows???

The Fresh Beat Band Season 3 – New September Episodes

Whether you love them or hate them since the replacement of the original Marina, Shayna Rose, fans have been wondering where the new episodes of The Fresh Beat Band on Nick Jr. are. Some have asked, wondering if the changes in cast had anything to do with the lack of air time for the three newest season 3 episodes, “Did they cancel the show because people didn’t agree with the changes?” or “Did they get lower ratings than expected with replacement Tara Rose?”.

No one knows {to my knowledge and research}, why the older seasons have been, what seems like stuck on repeat, and the newer episodes barely shown. However, there are a few new episodes slated to air at the end of this month. Nick Jr.’s website touts, “Fresh New Episodes, 9/26-9/29 @ 1PM.” And according to Wikipedia’s The Fresh Beat Band page, there are about 16 more episodes lined up for this season, including one of which is a collaboration with another Nick Jr. show, Yo Gabba Gabba. TVGuide.com has been a great tool at finding out which episodes are airing, put your information in and check your local listings.

I am interested to find out which episodes will be airing and hearing the new music and seeing if Tara Perry, the new Marina can win those of you still watching over or if this will be The Fresh Beat Band’s last season.

Weigh in: Are you going to watch the upcoming NEW Season 3 episodes?? Why or why not.

Will you and your children watch the upcoming new Fresh Beat Band episodes this month?

Dora’s Explorer Girls: Dora All Grown Up

Dora Grown up April 10 2010 On April 10, 2010, last year, I wrote on my family website about the possibility of Nick Jr.’s Dora the Explorer all grown up. Here is a picture to the left depicting the current Dora and what they wanted her to look like after she aged. But then it was all pipe dreams.

Say, “Goodbye” to Map, Backpack, Boots the Monkey, Isa the Iguana, Benny the Bull, Tico the Squirrel, the Grumpy Old Troll, Big Red Chicken, Azul, Swiper the Fox, the Fiesta Trio, Mami, Papi, Abuela, and the rest of the old Dora “cast”.

In less than a week from today, the new “crew” is making their debut and the pipe dreams are coming to fruition with Dora’s Explorer Girls! On Sunday, August 7th at 8:00pm Nick Jr. is premiering the new episode. Where a “grown-up” version of Dora, along with her friends, Naiya, Kate, Emma, and Alana go on an adventure when they realize they’ve forgot their tickets to hit-singer, Shakira’s concert.

Dora's Explorer Girls and Shakira

Photo provided by: Nick Jr.

Dora’s Explorer Girls features Dora, {who now lives in the city} and her four friends who are trying to make the world a better place by working together. Each girl has their niche, Dora is great at reading maps and being a leader, Naiya is the expert on the universe, exploring stars and space, Kate “speaks out” encouraging people to make things better by taking action, Emma brings people together by making music with her violin {sometimes Dora joins in with her flute}, and last but not least, Alana teams up with others through playing soccer and being an organizer, rallying people to work together.

Miss A, who is now 4 years old, loved Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go, but recently has left those shows behind for the likes of Olivia, The Fresh Beat Band, and even Dino Dan. I’m interested to see if this older version of Dora, and her friends will be something she likes. So far, after seeing the previews on Nick Jr. she has asked me to make sure she gets to watch it next Sunday.

For my youngest, Baby C though I’d still like to see the short, round Dora and her gang of silly friends, or maybe even Dora’s younger brother and sister as a spin-off of Dora the Explorer.

Are your children excited to see the new Dora’s Explorer Girls? How about you?

For more information on Dora’s Explorer Girls show, videos, {including Shakira’s Todos Juntos, the music video/song featured in the premier episode} and games, check out Nick Jr.’s website here: http://www.nickjr.com/doragirls

Fresh Beat Band Season 3 Episodes

The Fresh Beat Band Season 3This past Friday, like many families mine tuned in to Nick Jr.  to watch the season premier of The Fresh Beat Band and see (for the first time), the new Marina. While I was away at the Type-A Parent Conference, I had Daddy B tape the new, season 3 episodes of The Fresh Beat Band for me so I could see for myself.

Here are brief synopsis of the two first episodes and some of my personal thoughts (yes I am being uber critical just so I had something to write on both sides, so if it sounds nit-picky that’s exactly what is, really the episodes aren’t horrible and someone will find something they love and hate in both). Since so many of you are weighing in on the original vs. new Marina issue post that I wrote (you can see here: http://www.mommybknowsbest.com/what-happened-to-marina-fresh-beats/) I thought this would be a great place for you to share your thoughts on the episodes. Feel free to agree or disagree with me, I’m just excited to hear what you have to say.

Graduation Day

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a season begin with a graduation, however it seems like production for the Fresh Beat Band has been nothing but different from day one. So to follow suit, in the first episode of season 3, the Fresh Beat Band members graduate from music school. {I feel like this may have been their way to phase out Ms. Piccolo, but why didn’t they do something with introducing the new Marina in this episode too??}

Twist, Shout, and Kiki day dream about their futures after school is out and what careers they’ll take on. Twist wants to fight fires with jelly or a pretzel salesman – astronaut, Shout wants to be a tennis player – conductor, and Kiki wants to be a race car driver -ballerina, but Marina doesn’t know what she wants to be. The Fresh Beat Band tries to help their friend Marina figure out what she wants to be with suggestions like a chef, construction worker, and a chef. In the end, they realize they just want to be in a band with their friends…The Fresh Beat Band.

We liked: The fact that they didn’t stereotype any particular jobs to certain genders. We actually really enjoy the new, “Here We Go” song that’s been playing a lot and in this episode, my 4 year old sings along every time she hears it, which she did not with previous Fresh Beat songs. I think that the new faster, {maybe a little more “radio-friendly” songs} fit the actors vocals a little better too. I feel like, “Here We Go” has replaced, “Friends Give Friends a Hand” in this season. That they are featuring a person in a wheelchair this season, hoping that they show more diversity throughout the season for children who are watching. And lastly the fact that Shout is no longer wearing shorts!! Hallelujah!

Songs include; “Looking For a Friend Like You,” and “Reach For The Sky.”

I didn’t like: The opening song changes, I think the original song was more fresh and fun personally. So annoyed with the fake smoothies, I guess it’s easier but looks too cheesy IMO. Twist’s rapping {although my husband thinks it’s hilarious and loves it}.

Giant Pizza

A new neighbor is in town and Twist’s nose leads The Fresh Beat Band right to him. Harper (played by Shane Blades), runs the Singing Pizza Cafe – “Where every pizza is served with a song sung acapella (without any instruments).” The theme of the day at the Singing Pizza Cafe is Pirate Pizza day. The Fresh Beat Band volunteer to help Harper open the Singing Pizza Cafe. Twist, Shout, Marina, and Kiki hand out pizza samples, make lots of pizza (including one HUGE pizza to feed the masses) and of course singing a song to the Singing Pizza Cafe customers. Songs include “A Friend Like You,” “Good Times”, and of course their signature, “We Had a Great Day.”. Both of the new songs sound like they are songs from Black Eyed Peas, although I can’t find anything online to prove that they have similar song-writers or producers.

We liked: The pizza guy, Harper, he’s kind of funny, although still trying to feel him out to see if he is a good fit with the rest of the cast. How everyone politely shouted, “Pizza Please.”

We didn’t like: The way the small flying pizzas looked, the mock-pepperonis looked disgusting. Marina as a pirate. Cheesy “favorite things” line by Reed. The fact that they even have the Junior Beats, why not just have the awesome dancing kids just be kids and not have to “look” like any of the older Fresh Beat Band members?

Looks like a new Fresh Beat Band episode is coming up on July 8th, will you be watching?

Did you like either episode? Did you have a favorite? Why did you like the episode or why did you hate it??

What Happened to The Fresh Beat’s Marina?

Nick Jr.'s The Fresh Beat Band

Nick Jr.'s The Fresh Beat BandMiss A loves The Fresh Beat Band on Nick Jr. and secretly so does Daddy B. {Shhh don’t tell him I told you.} Nick Jr. first shared this fun show with American families in August of 2009. Since then, the musical fun that Kiki, Twist, Shout and Marina bring have taught and continue to teach valuable lessons to preschool viewers, like getting along, not giving up, and solving problems as a team.

The Fresh Beat Band, was originally planned to be called, “The JumpArounds,” however before the show officially aired the name was changed. Following suit, in this past season, season two, some of The Junior Beats {the mini Fresh Beat kids} and the actor who played Reed, the owner of the Good Note Music Store were replaced. Is it me or does it seem like Nick Jr. is mixing things up with The Fresh Beat Band from season to season? Now that the third season of Fresh Beat band is upon us, things are no different.

Tara Perry The Fresh Beat Band MarinaRecent clips for the show’s next “new” season have sprung up on Nick Jr. touting lots of new things for the show, while also showing off a new cast member, Tara Perry. Perry will take on the role of Marina, who was originally played by Shayna Rose.

Allegidly, Shayna Rose is getting married and perusing other career options that are taking her away from The Fresh Beat Band. I know Miss A and maybe Daddy B too, will miss her dearly.

What do we know about the “new” Marina, Tara Perry though? Perry, age 25, has directed and stared in quite a few youtube videos, and had a tv appearance here and there, but her “claim to fame” is that she is The Movie Maven on Sci-Fi’s Mania.com. For more on Perry, check out her IMDB page she doesn’t have a wikipedia page yet, but now that she’s on Nick Jr. I assume that will be coming soon.

Although the “new” Marina still has red hair {noticeably darker}, and a turquoise and purple outfit, you can’t pull one over my kiddo. I’m not sure if it’s an effort to help Marina blend in or some new duds for season three, but all four of the Fresh Beats have new outfits, and on a side note hubby thinks that Shout has gained some muscle {that’s debatable, I think it was just covered by the collegiate sweater}.

While I’m not a huge fan of change, especially when it comes to television characters, she is a fellow Sagittarius so maybe I’ll cut her a little slack. Honestly though, I’m not really sure how a different Marina will affect the show, personally, I don’t think that it will, especially when it comes to the kids. I think they’ll be confused for a minute, get over it, and be dancing all over the room like with any other episode.

For NEW Season 3 Fresh Beat Band Episode Synopsis and to weigh in with your thoughts, check out http://www.mommybknowsbest.com/fresh-beat-band-season-3-episodes/.

I’d love to hear your opinions on the topic. What are your thoughts on the new Marina? Do you like the changes that are coming to Nick Jr.’s Fresh Beat Band? Is your child {or someone else in your household} excited for season three?

Who is your favorite Marina?
