Medifast Chewy Bar Review and Weight Loss Progress

Hey readers! I know I haven’t had a Medifast update in a while, I figured I would concentrate on monthly weight ins since my weight recently {with vacations and summer events} has been up and down but pretty steady at 147.

I do have some great news however, and that is not one, but two NEW Medifast products! I received the Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar and the Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar. In the packaging the bars looked very tasty and the flavors sounded delicious, right?!?!

Overall I liked the idea of a chewy bar since the other bars that Medifast offers (with the exception of the maintenance bars) are more “crispy” and more like granola bars, so it was a great change from what I’ve been munching on. I was super excited to try them out and they both satisfied any sweet tooth I had for sure.

Both bars are indeed chewy, I’ve talked to some people who prefer the bars chilled for texture purposes. I do agree somewhat, the bars are very chewy, so small bites are best, but I didn’t mind it. This however is not a good option if you’re munching in between talking to someone {think peanut butter on the roof of your mouth.}

I also love that they are “Naturally Flavored”.

Now my thoughts on each separately.

Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar – This bar definitely tastes like cookie dough, I personally would have preferred the milk chocolate drizzle on this instead of the white drizzle. Overall a good bar, a little on the sweeter side for me though.

Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar – I really liked the balance of peanut butter to chocolate in this bar and the chips gave it some additional texture. This is one of my favorite bars in the bunch.

My Medifast Progess – Week 29 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Here’s to a better week this week, although I struggled at times with my brain, and to be completely honest, there were moments where I thought, {and to be SUPER honest, may still have in the back of my head} that I should take a break from trying to stay healthy for the summer.

Like I’ve said in so many posts recently, losing weight and being fit will always be a challenge for me, it’s not something that I’m programmed to do nor is it a full part of my life yet, but I’m a work in progress and still hanging in there, for this week at least.

I got some great validation from you all in my past posts and on some instagram posts that were really encouraging for me, and while I’m not doing this for other people or for approval, it really is nice to hear words of encouragement and that I have people backing me up, so thank you for those of you who chimed in, (even if it wasn’t “out loud”).

This week I got to try the new Medifast Triple Berry Smoothie. Occasionally I like a good smoothie, so I was excited to hear that Medifast was coming out with a smoothie for their food plan. Medifast has two different smoothie flavors, Triple Berry and Pineapple Mango.

Since I was in a berry good mood, I decided to try out the Triple Berry flavor first. It was super easy to make, but if you’re going to follow the directions you should be at home or near a blender. Basically you add water and ice with the mix, and blend, then voila, a cold treat.

When I opened the package, I was delighted to see bits of dried fruits in the mix, and think it would make a good smoothie pop too!! {hint, hint} Overall I loved the taste of the smoothie and the texture was great too. I’m excited to add this to my list of Medifast foods that I love, although I may just add super finely crushed ice to the mix and shake it up or consider getting a personal-sized blender instead of putting it in my oversized blender, for easier clean up.

Easy, Delicious, Healthy Radish Recipes

Thank you Duda Farm Fresh Foods for samples of your Dandy Ministick Radishes so I could whip up these tasty and healthy recipes.

If you’ve been keeping up with my posts you’ve probably read that my family and I are experimenting with new foods. We tried cauliflower pizza/breadsticks, and kale chips. Both of which have gone pretty well with the family, although they prefer the cauliflower pizza, I must say I love both.

When I was approached by Duda Farm Fresh Foods to review their Dandy Ministick Radishes, I thought it would be a fun “challenge” to get my family to eat radishes and also try new healthy recipes.

Of course I scoured the web researching radish dishes, reading more on the nutritional values and studying good pairings with other foods. Here are some creations I made and other easy, delicious, healthy radish recipes for you.

Easy Delicious Healthy Radish Recipes MommyBKnowsBest

Last week, I made pulled pork for the first time ever for a great family who welcomed a beautiful little boy into the world. Luckily the pulled pork tasted great and was a hit for that family, and I had some left over. Keeping with the healthy eating, instead of putting the pulled pork on sliced bread or a bun, I though it would be yummy to try out a pulled pork lettuce wrap topped with delicious ministick radishes.

Here’s how they turned out:

And here’s how I made my Pulled Pork Spinach Wraps:

First make your Pulled Pork:

– Start with a 4-5lb Pork Roast {shoulder or butt works best}.

– For optimal flavor marinade for 1-12 hours before placing in your slow cooker.

– Create a wet rub for the pork roast using the following ingredients:

  • 2 Garlic Cloves pressed from fresh or 2 teaspoon of canned {olive oil preferably}
  • 2 tablespoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of pepper {more for a spicier taste}
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of stone ground mustard {or more for spicier taste}

Unwrap your roast, removing all strings from the roast, placing it on a cutting board or shallow dish perfect for covering with your rub and/or leaving to marinate.

Mix your rub together until all ingredients are combined, place the rub on all sides of the roast coating sides well. Cover and marinate.

When done marinating, place the roast in your slow cooker set to high, {I recommend using Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners for easy cleanup} and add 1 cup of water for a deliciously moist roast.

Let your roast sit for about 6 hours, {if you’re like me you may want to flip your roast over mid-way at the 4 hour point.}

Once done, carefully remove your roast from your slow cooker and shred the meat using two forks.

Place the shredded pork in a mixing bowl, and incrementally add tablespoons of your favorite barbecue sauce until you reach your desired taste level.

After your pork has cooled a little glean through your spinach leaves {I recommend not using baby spinach for the best size wraps.

Place your spinach leaves in positions conducive for optimal pulled pork holding, top with delicious, crunchy Dandy Ministick Radishes and voila, an easy, healthy, delicious meal:

My Medifast Progress – Week 27 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Today, I thought I would give you some tips on how not to gain weight.

Do not go on a press trip and indulge in all of the tasty offerings they have to offer.

Do not drink your calories. {I really only had a couple of mixed drinks}.

Do not travel again the next weekend and give yourself slack to eat not so great.

Good tips huh? Seriously though, those are 3 of the things I have done wrong in the past two weeks when it comes to my weight loss.

It’s really easy to focus on the negative, so I’m going to step out of my box here and list a few things that I did right these past two weeks.

I didn’t go off plan for every meal. I did exercise in the form of some pretty intense dancing. I did get plenty of rest. I drank more water than I usually do at home.

So there you have it, I’m not perfect, {but I’m willing to bet you already knew that}, and even though the scale did go up this week, it honestly could have been a lot worse had I not had any self control, so I am proud of myself for the things I did “right” this week and will continue working on the reasons behind my not-so-healthy choices. I know circumstances won’t always allow for me to eat on plan, especially with my job and having to review food and attend events, but I’m going to try my best and keep on learning.

Hi, I’m Jenn and I’m an addict. I am addicted to food. I am not joking or making light of other addictions. I have seen other addictions take over people’s lives and how it effects everyone around them. I am addicted to food.

I don’t know to what extend I am addicted, but I know that I will always struggle with food temptations, and that it will always take a conscious effort on my part, every minute of the day, to choose health over what my mind tells me.

When it comes to food I hear voices. No I’m not crazy…at least I don’t think I am, but I rationalize, “one bite of this won’t hurt” “you can work out and work it off later”…and one bite turns into three, and after I know it I end up binging and scraping the hard work I had done in previous weeks.

In my head there are days where I am so on board, I stick to plan and have few thoughts of veering off path, then there are other days where, I swear, my brain wants to sabotage me. I’ve even thought, “how long am I here on earth for”, “there are other people that are less healthy than me and they seem okay”. Then it’s a matter of reminding myself why I’m trying to lose weight, and why I’m using the Medifast plan.

I KNOW how to lose weight, I know the things I’m doing right and the things I’m doing wrong, there are so many things I can and will be implementing to help me in this journey. My excuses aren’t helping, and I know those voices and thoughts won’t easily go away, if ever. I will fall off the wagon, I will get back on, banged up and bruised, and possibly a few pounds heavier, but I need to keep going after this, I choose health, but I am addicted to food.

I’ve always known that I have had an addictive personality and addiction (in many forms) runs in my family, however that is not an excuse for any behavior including my health and weight, and I’m a scrappy lil momma who intends to keep pushing, even when my brain convinces me otherwise.

So if you can’t understand what I’m going through I beg you to please still hang in there with me, and if you have it in you, even though you may think I’m not doing a great job, I hope you are able to send sincere encouragement to push me forward. If you, can empathize or if you are a food addict, this is a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute process.

I am a food addict and I am not quitting.

My plans are to start to replace things that I eat or do slowly, but build them up as habits. I am trading coffee for Medifast Calorie Burn Strawberry Lemonade Flavor Infuser™ or another caffeine replacement that doesn’t have the calories that my beloved coffee does, or the temptation of picking up a donut or bagel while I’m there.

Hooray for a great week. I don’t want to say it yet, but I may be back on track. This week I got a few workouts in, {hooray for that motivation} I stayed on plan, {minus a handful of my daughter’s goldfish crackers} and was inspired both on instagram, and by people who are doing the program themselves {you know who you are, and THANK YOU!!!}

I tried a few new Medifast foods, make sure you check my page for Medifast Food Reviews to see those. I had lean and green meals like lean turkey and broccoli, salad and grilled chicken, snacked on kale chips {yep that’s right}, and even made this delicious cauliflower pizza that is perfect for Medifasters!

Cauliflower Pizza – Gluten Free – Medifast Recipe

I have been seeing Cauliflower Pizza all over Pinterest. I am not a fan of cauliflower. In fact, I do not like cauliflower. Broccoli I can do, but cauliflower, I’ll pass. Needless to say my girls have never tried it and my husband doesn’t didn’t care for it before I stumbled upon this delicious recipe for Cauliflower Breadsticks: Sandy’s Kitchen

A week before Easter I tried the recipe out and the entire tray of breadsticks that I made, were gobbled up within minutes. My family could not believe they were made with cauliflower, moreover, they didn’t care! Yes, I know, unheard of!!

So I thought today that I would try my hand at making the cauliflower pizza this time around. First off, Lil’ C was singing, “Cauliflower pizza, yum, yum, yum,” if that gives you a hint as to whether or not my almost 6 year old and 3 year old like this pizza/breadstick recipe.

I found a few different recipes, but really should have just stuck to the original breadstick one and adjusted a little. The recipe I tried mentioned heating up the chopped cauliflower in the microwave and soaking out the juices, I found that the raw cauliflower I put into our breadsticks worked just fine and may have even been a little less mushy.

By popular demand and the fact that I am behind held at gunpoint {not really}, I am posting this recipe.

Cauliflower Pizza Recipe MommyB

Here are the Ingredients I used to make an entire pizza for my family:

1 medium head of cauliflower {grated makes about 3-4 cups}
1 egg white
2 cups shredded Reduced Fat 2% Milk Shredded Mozzarella Cheese {1 cup for mix 1 cup for topping}
Turkey Pepperoni {use as desired or count out for caloric intake}
Marinara Sauce
The following herbs and seasonings to taste – garlic powder, pinch of salt {depending on your diet plan}, freeze dried basil, pepper.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 450.

Chop cauliflower until it resembles a rice-like texture.

Mix RAW chopped cauliflower, 1 egg white, 1 cup of cheese, herbs and seasonings together in a bowl until combined.

Line a cookie sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper preferably.

Spread mixture onto parchment paper, trying to make an even layer of “dough”. My personal preference is as thin as possible so as not to get a mushy texture, and trying to get my edges even as much as possible.

Bake at 450 for 10 minutes and flip the “dough”, baking for another 5 minutes or so to brown both sides of your pizza crust. {VERY IMPORTANT STEP, and will save you from mushy pizza.}

Remove crust from the oven, add the marinara sauce, and any toppings, including the last cup of cheese, we used Turkey pepperoni, and place back in the oven for another 7-10 minutes until cheese is brown and bubbly. *Don’t worry about the edges browning, this is typical of cauliflower pizza and tastes great regardless.

Let the pizza set for 2 minutes and then enjoy! Voila!!!

My Medifast Progress – Week 18 and 19 #journey33

Even though I don’t have anything to really update in here I figured I should give you all a shout. Yes, that’s right, I’m holding at 150 (so I guess I’ve lost .5lbs) but I’m not going anywhere. Not for the lack of a good program, because Medifast works, it helped me lose 19lbs already, but I am the one that is broken.

My willpower is almost non-existant, actually I can’t say that because if that were true I wouldn’t be on the program at all, so I guess I do have some willpower when I stay on-plan. But there are true moments of weakness, when I fail the plan and eat whatever I please.

Two weeks ago, I had a couple of amazing workouts and thought to myself, “I am so on track”, yet I continued to eat in an unhealthy way. I decided that I am going to set up some short-term goals for myself as I really don’t have any accountability other than writing my progress here. I think too, it would help me personally, to have someone to “do this with”. Someone who I could be inspired by, commiserate with during the hard times, and hopefully encourage as well. But because I don’t have that I need to be encouraged by the way my clothes are fitting, and how I’m feeling, but also by incentives. Hopefully this will kick start me into the right direction again.

Here’s my first incentive oriented goal:

Medifast 1st Goal

I truly am not ready to give up yet, but my battle is with my mind. Do you ever feel that way?? Just when I thought things were getting easier, my mind convinced me that I could have 1,2,3,4 and so on, bites of {fill in the junk food here}. I’m not accepting failure, I know I haven’t been the perfect image of health, but I know that I have been 100% real with you all, and I hope that you can appreciate that if nothing else.

I know I’m not the only one who struggles with weight, diet, and exercise, it’s evident in our world. My work will be not only to lose this weight, but to train my brain to stop thinking about “cheating” and start thinking what’s important for my body and how I want to be a healthier person in my 33rd year of life.

Sorry for the military faces, I dunno what’s going on here *LOL*

My Medifast Progress – Week 17 #journey33

This is the time of year when things get a little hectic in our schedules. Lil’ C celebrated her birthday last weekend, we celebrated Easter, and we had family in town, so some fun and entertaining. Unfortunately this was not a good week to stay on plan with cupcakes and other birthday treats, Easter dinner and dessert, and of course eating out with the family and our visitors.

Surprisingly though I did not gain any weight this week, and did better than I thought I would staying on plan. Medifast also just revealed a few new product additions. The first of course is their NEW Tomato Basil Bisque, I love basil so I was super excited to try this out.

I love that the Tomato Basil Bisque has sundried tomatoes and basil in it and is easy to make. The bisque has an okay taste, but something I’ll have to get used to as it’s not as creamy as the non-Medifast versions. I’m a flavor-full kind of gal so this doesn’t knock me out with flavor but definitely feels light and healthy.

Aside from this new product announcement, Medifast also announced their new Four-Week Variety Packs, which I think is really cool. They have Medifast Favorites, On-the-Go Favorites, Gluten-Free Favorites, and Chocolate Lovers. Each package has 140 meals, that add up to a little over $2.40 per meal. Not too shabby!!!

My Medifast Progress – Week 16 #journey33

Alrighty folks, you know I’ve been struggling with staying on plan and being motivated. Welp, I am happy to say that this week I have hit the rewind button, and I’ve gone back to week 13.

Although I am beating myself up a little for the slip up, I know that if I am too hard on myself then I will just quit, and I’m not about to quit. I just needed to refocus and get back on track. So here I am, ready to go at it again, and continue on my weight loss progress.

Although with Lil C’s birthday party and Easter Dinner, I did better than I would have off plan, but still not great. My plan is to make better choices for the rest of this week and hopefully get in some exercise too.

I will be attending Mom Prom, a Charlotte charity event, that benefits children with cancer and have a good time with friends and I’d love to look and more importantly feel good in my dress as I dance and enjoy the night, so that’s my closest upcoming goal. Hoping that’s an inspiration for me to be kind to my body.
