Fun and Easy Valentine’s Ideas for Kids

Valentine’s Day is a great holiday to celebrate with kids. My girls love languages are gifts, words of affirmation, physical touch, and quality time, so basically they cover 4 out of 5 of the love languages. If you haven’t heard about love languages check out my blog post on Exploring Love Languages.

Because they have different love languages we do a few things both leading up to Valentine’s Day and on the day itself. Here are just a couple new and old traditions that we partake in to celebrate.

Valentine’s Day Countdown – Make a paper chain, calendar countdown, or think of something creative to count your way down to Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t matter what day you start but here are some ideas of what you and your family can do to count your way down to the 14th.

  • Hug someone in your family
  • Read John 3:16
  • Make a craft with hearts
  • Say one reason you love each member of your family
  • Help cook a family meal or treat in the shape of a heart
  • Look at pictures from past V-days
  • Help someone in need
  • Spend time with another family
  • Invite someone to church
  • Color pictures for extended family members
  • Write a letter to a missionary or military family
  • Make Valentine’s Day cards
  • Decorate your home with words of kindness

Valentine’s Day Tree

We found this Valentine’s Day Tree in the dollar section at Target. It was made for the classroom, but I find a lot of great items that we can use at home are teaching tools or made for school. I love how easy it is to love with words of affirmation and kindness using this simple decoration.

There’s also something similar on Amazon*, and of course you could make your own as well:

Now that I’ve shared a couple of things we do in our home, I would love to hear your ideas for Valentine’s Day. Share how you celebrate by leaving a comment in the comment section below.

Grand Opening of the NEW American Girl Store Charlotte Sneak Peek

The NEW American Girl Store at the Southpark Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina opens this weekend, Saturday, October 11th – Sunday, October 12th.

The B girls and I were invited to the store today for a sneak peek before opening day. Here are some photos of our visit:

The new 12,000-square-foot retail site, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, features a fun, casual environment where girls and their family members and friends can shop for their favorite American Girl products, browse a great selection of books in their bookstore, enjoy lunch and dinner, or an unforgettable dessert in the Bistro, treat their doll to a new ‘do in the Doll Hair Salon, and celebrate birthdays or other special events.

Details for the Grand Opening can be found on their website: American Girl Charlotte. If you’re interested in attending this weekend I highly suggest being prepared ahead of time and plan on spending hours at the mall. If you make it a day-trip it will definitely make you and your kiddos a little happier, bring activities, and plan to visit other locations in the Southpark Mall to make the time pass quicker.

American Girl Charlotte Grand Opening on MommyBKnowsBest

American Girl Store is at Southpark Mall, 4400 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28211. The best entrance to park next to is the Macy’s wing of Southpark Mall and you’ll find the store as you walk to the Mall entrance on the second level. {You won’t be able to miss it.}

In all we loved learning about the history of American Girl, enjoy the wholesome values and character that this brand brings to keep our daughters young as opposed to some products available on shelves today. While the cost of an American Girl doll can be higher than some customer’s budget there are options to purchase accessories, mini versions of their favorite dolls, or a great incentive {like my girls are doing} to save up their money by doing chores and birthday dollars.

Have you ever been to an American Girl store? Will you visit the NEW American Girl store in Charlotte, North Carolina?

This is not a paid post, I attended a media event upon request from American Girl. All opinions and thoughts are my own honest words. Your experiences may vary.

Free Gift at Target with Motorola Video Baby Monitor Purchase

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Motorola.

Do you ever find it a little overwhelming looking for baby gear? Recently, I was shopping for a video baby monitor for a baby shower gift for a friend and while I’ve tried a couple out {old school and new school} I was still really overwhelmed by all the options and functions.

Do I really need this feature, what things can’t I live without in a video monitor? Those are the questions that kept mulling around in my head and I can only imagine the thousands more if I was a new mom. So I figured I’d tell you, in “real mom” words what’s important in a video monitor to me as a mom.

Big Screen – If I’m dropping a good bit of $ on baby gear, I want it to be well worth it.

Remote Control – Yes, I want to be spoiled. Sometimes babies roll from one side of their crib to the other and out of view from the camera. I want “eyes in the sky”.

Night Vision – Speaking of wanting to see different angles, I also want to see my wee one in the dark.

Awesome Range – Not that our house is enormous, but if we ever get invited to live at the Biltmore {hey you never know}, I want my baby monitor to come to the west wing with me, {or at least the other side of the house}.

Room Temperature – Now I’m getting a little “brass tacks” here, but in our house the downstairs feels about 10 degrees cooler than the upstairs so when DaddyB and I are freezing in the winter, the girls are sweating in their rooms. I would love to be able to adjust the temperature in our home according to baby’s room temperature rather than our thermostat.

Intercom – One thing I always disliked about our monitors with the girls growing up is that we could hear them, but unless we yelled up the stairs {no thank-you}, they couldn’t hear us. I love the option of being able to soothe your child when they are a little fussy. Of course being a no-cry momma I always recommend going up if baby’s in distress, but this is a great way to sing or talk to little one as needed.

Of course all monitors being sold these days have wireless options, battery options,

Coincidentally, there’s a great, award-winning video monitor on the market that fits mom’s most important needs, and covers all the key featured I mentioned and more.

Parents, I give you the Motorola MBP 36 Remote Wireless Video Baby Monitor

Motorola MBP36 Video Baby Monitor

Holiday Gift Guide for Girly Girls #MyKindofHoliday

For some of you savvy shoppers, your Christmas shopping is already complete, and others of us {ahem} still have a long list of people to shop for.

Personally, I love shopping for the many different people and personalities that we have in our circle of friends and family, and because the holidays are already busy, I try to save as much time as possible by shopping in “one-stop shops” like Target.

While we don’t buy our girls a lot of gifts we do like to get them a few things they have been wanting.

Here are a few of my favorite toys for girly girls like my gals: {ps they also play with Transformers and blocks on the regular.}

Holiday Gift Guide for Girly Girls #mykindofholiday

As you can see we have the newest LaLa Loopsies, and an adorable Hello Kitty, the awesome doctor station from Disney’s Doc McStuffins that Lil’ C has on her list, the Disney Princess Cupcake Party that the girls always love playing when we are at friend’s houses, cool craft sets, clothes, a scooter for Miss A, the interactive Jingle Bells book and talking puppy, and last but not least Lego Friends sets that both girls love playing with.

Believe me it was hard to pick 10 of my favorites! What are your girly girls getting this year?

New LeapFrog Product – Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App

This post brought to you by MomSelect and LeapFrog.

Lately Lil’ C who is officially 3 and 1/2 {don’t forget the half}, has been VERY interested in writing her letters, and learning how to spell everything on the planet. She’s even been starting to create her own words and asking me, “Mommy, what does EFLG spell?” So I’m super excited that LeapFrog has come up with the Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App.

Lil’ C loves playing on my iPad whenever she can get her hands on it, 90% of the apps are kids apps and 80% of the games on it have some capacity of educational value, but the more learning apps I can add or use to replace others, the better.

The girls loved “stepping into the world of Mr. Pencil and the citizens of Doodleberg”, and I like that she’s able to practice her writing and drawing skills. The Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ app come with a really cool, Mr. Pencil stylus that’s kid-friendly and is designed to be gentle on your iPad. {Double duty!}

Lil’ C loves practicing her letters, and unlocking shops and venues in Doodleberg and how much interaction the app allows. Even though Miss A {6} has been writing letters for years, the app had some fun activities that she enjoyed as well.

The app is easy to download and even has a free version if you want to check it out before you purchase the full version of Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil™ Stylus & Writing App. This product currently retails for $14.99 but is on sale right now at LeapFrog.com for $11.99 {price subject to change}

How do/did you teach your child how to write their letters? Which LeapFrog toy will you be purchasing next? Learn To Write with Mr. Pencil LeapFrog App Toy

New Products and Programs from CVS/pharmacy Headquarters

If you follow my Instagram, Facebook or Twitter feeds, you know that at the end of September, I had the opportunity to visit CVS/pharmacy headquarters once again this year and sit in on informational sessions, and enjoy some great branded events, with some amazing bloggers.

CVS/pharmacy Bloggers

If you missed last year’s trip report head HERE. It’s been a busy month and I learned so much about great new products and programs that CVS/pharmacy is or will be rolling out. In this post you’ll see highlights of my visit and learn about these products and programs for yourself. In the meantime, make sure you’re subscribed to my blog by putting your email address in the appropriate box in the sidebar, that way you won’t miss my upcoming CVS/pharmacy product and program posts.

Whats Your DealFirst I’ll start with myWeekly ads and deals. Since this is something I mentioned to you in my post: CVS/pharmacy Announces myWeekly Ad Customized Savings I won’t go over all the details {if you want those click on the link I just mentioned}. But I will tell you that for those of us who aren’t hardcore couponers, this is perfect for the shopper in us who wants to save on things we are already planning on purchasing without having to spend hours of hard work getting that deal. Kudos to CVS/pharmacy for making it easy for shoppers like us to save!

Check out this funny, celeb-filled video showcasing a few different myWeekly ad suggestions. What’s Your Deal???

Joan Rivers cracks me up!

For the health-minded side of CVS/pharmacy, I enjoyed trying to decipher what was a health FACT and MYTH out of the health statements we were given by the CVS MinuteClinic crew. I actually learned a good bit of new information about MinuteClinic including:

  • Available in over 650 clinics in more than 25 states
  • Holds a 95% patient satisfaction rate
  • Staffed by Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants who are able to treat, diagnose, and prescribe medication.
  • No appointments needed and services are available evenings and weekends
  • Known for acute services, but provide wellness services, physical screenings and more.

MinuteClinic Myth vs Fact MommyB.jpg

{Pictured above is Christine Young, I heart her, go check out her blog From Diapers to Dating}

I love how convenient MinuteClinic is, especially being a busy mom with two little girls. Sometimes I want my kiddos to get feeling better right away. We love our physician, but illness doesn’t always work on our doctor’s office timelines. Can I get an amen?!?

Of course most of the bloggers at the event were women, not all, but most, and we were pampered with some amazing Salma Hayek Nuance beauty products. If you haven’t heard of her line Nuance you are truly missing out my friend.Salma Hayek Nuance CVS

Nuance products are specially formulated with natural, exotic ingredients that have stood the test of time. It’s said that a number of ingredients used in Nuance products were the same used by Salma’s very own grandmother.

This year, Salma Hayek’s Nuance launched a few new products including: Nuance Salma Hayek Hair Care with rich ingredients like flax seed to strengthen and protect hair, and Nuance Salma Hayek Skincare including cleansers, BB Cream and more with each item under a $19.99 price point. Love beauty at a bargain!

Last but not least, on this fun media trip, we were treated to Christmas with CVS/pharmacy. Not only was the ambiance set for holiday celebrations, but we enjoyed a yummy Christmas morning breakfast complete with gingerbread lattes and peppermint mochas. Normally I’m not one for celebrating holidays too soon, but with the Christmas tree {and for those of you who celebrate Hannukah, the minora}, stockings, and Christmas lights really got me excited for the holidays to be here already.

CVS Christmas Holiday Gifts MommyB

We were also able to soak in the experience by doing a White Elephant swap of some of CVS/pharmacy’s soon-to-be “hot holiday gift” items. We also got to preview products that will be on “his” “hers” “kids” and other family members’ lists this Christmas and I got some great ideas for family and friends of my own.

CVS/pharmacy has even put together a few lists to get you started and help you out with shopping for those awesome people in your life you’d like to gift this Christmas season: Holiday Shopping at CVS/pharmacy.

I want to thank each of you who read my blog for your support. If you weren’t stopping by, reading my posts, commenting on Facebook, and entering giveaways I wouldn’t be able to work from home doing something I truly enjoy.

Thanks also to CVS/pharmacy for an amazing media event, lots of product samples to try out and tell my readers about, and of course the inside scoop on CVS/pharmacy’s newest products and programs coming out.

I was not compensated for this post. I did receive a trip to CVS/pharmacy headquarters for this event and work closely with the brand throughout the year on non-paid and paid projects. Any opinions in this post are my own. My family have been brand-loyal to CVS/pharmacies long before I was a blogger. Your opinions may vary.

Holiday Decorations for the Home with Christmas Forest

This post is in partnership with Christmas Forest.

Christmas Forest Products

Now that it’s officially November I’m starting to launch into my Christmas holiday posts because I know some of you have already been shopping and looking online for gifts as well as great holiday decorations to make your home even more inviting this holiday season.

Since I live in the suburbs of Charlotte, the houses in my neighborhood all start to look the same after a while, but when Christmas draws near, I love looking at the outside the houses, especially those that have classy Christmas lawn decorations and beautiful Christmas wreaths.

As I search through my Pinterest account I see so many great, unique creations for Christmas wreaths, but for some reason my eyes are always attracted to the natural, pine Christmas wreaths. Maybe it’s because I’m very allergic to pine and know that plastic just isn’t the same look, {but I try not to be too envious}.

As a start to my holiday posts and shopping recommendations, I’d love to tell you a little more about Christmas Forest.

christmas forest

Christmas Forest, nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains of Washington state, has been producing fresh, beautiful Christmas wreaths since 1976. While they have been a local brand for quite some time, they currently serve customers worldwide.

Wreaths range in price from $38 to $52 and last for approximately 3 weeks outdoors but can last longer in cooler/damper climates. Each wreath is carefully handcrafted and shipped to your door {as long as you live in the continental US} at no additional cost, and rumor has it the customer service is outstanding as well.

Here are a few of my favorite wreaths (and other products from Christmas Forest):

MommyB's Christmas Forest Christmas Wreath Picks.jpg

For some reason, I adore blue and silver together. I just feel like it’s different than the red {which I like 2nd best}, not as traditional, but still very beautiful. This Jazz-a-Tazz wreath can be purchased for $44.oo.

The middle, Christmas Cross Wreath is an obvious choice for one of my top picks because of my family’s faith. I love that they offer this option, a great way to celebrate the season and share warmth with your neighbors. I also love that it’s simple and not pretentious. The Christmas Cross wreath is also priced at $44.00.

Last but not least, I know it’s not a wreath officially, but I just can’t help falling in love with this Holiday Swag, no not because it’s called “swag”, although that in it’s own rite is pretty awesome. I can just see it making a beautiful addition to any Christmas decor whether it’s outside your home or inside. If I could turn off my allergies these would be adorning our mantle, our windows, and I may throw a couple on the kids as well! Seriously though, if you’re looking for a little holiday spirit to compliment your current decor, this 25″ Holiday Swag is great and available for $37.

What are your favorites??

If you are interested in purchasing products for yourself or as a gift from Christmas Forest I encourage you to head to their website: www.ChristmasForest.com, you can also follow them on Facebook for updates on products and holiday countdowns.

Thank you Christmas Forest for sponsoring this post, unfortunately I was not able to review products due to pine allergies, but I hope this post has been informative and helpful. All opinions expressed in the above post are my own, yours may vary.
