Since February has arrived I’m sure you knew a sweet-treat post was coming. Well folks, this is it. {For today at least.} More about V-day and even the history of giving chocolate as a gift.

I was approached by sweetriot, a fun company of x people that really care about chocolate, but more importantly they care about how their chocolate is made, and that’s why they are adamant about their Fair Trade policy.

First of all, we consider what products we are creating. Are they good for the world….are they healthy…are they natural and fairly traded? Is the sourcing ethical? We worked very hard to find a partner in South America with a strong track record of social responsibility and a commitment to fair trade. Plus, we searched for a product – cacao – which comes from the most healthy & magical fruit in the world. It is a slow not fast food and we’re proud of that.

As you have seen from some of my posts like: Reverse Trick-or-Treating and Chocoley Chocolates Fair Trade, I too believe in the cause of Fair Trade. Please don’t get me wrong, we certainly are not purely a “Fair-Trade home”, because we enjoy other brands of chocolate as well including those you can easily pick up at a drug store, or grocery. However, when I have opportunities to and am able to use this platform for great causes and benefits I do.

Most mommas I know, including myself, struggle with weight issues. Now the list goes on, as we all know reasons pile up, but Kidfresh, a foodline designed for kids ages 2 to 8 years has developed meals that are affordable, microwaveable, and 100% natural. Miss A doesn’t like pasta {I know!! What kid doesn’t like pasta?!?!},  so we didn’t even try them with her because we knew what the verdict would be. Baby C, on the other hand, eats almost everything we put in front of her, especially carbs. The first try I gave Baby C Kidfresh’s Spaghetti Loops Bolognese, unfortunately she didn’t care for these so I ended up discarding most of the meal, but as we all know just because a kid doesn’t eat doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try again. The next time I tried their Wagon Wheels Mac + Cheese {these are the only two options my grocer carries,}. As soon as I took these noodles out of the microwave I could smell the real cheese {you know how it smells different than the processed stuff,} and it was delightful, and even though I wanted to munch on it I restrained myself. Baby C gobbled it up until she was full and I saved the leftovers for the next day. She wasn’t loving the leftovers, however when I gave her the Mac + Cheese again a couple of weeks later she ate almost the entire dish, I attribute her finickiness to being a toddler.

My favorite thing about Kidfresh aside from how awesomely healthy the meals are is that they are good portions, the Mac + Cheese didn’t come drenched in cheese, it was just the right amount, encouraging my kids to eat but not stuff themselves.

Personally I’d love to try the 4 other flavors that Kidfresh makes, so I hope that EarthFare Huntersville stocks them up {hint, hint}. However I love that I have a quick, healthy option for Baby C when I need something fast and I don’t have to go with the alternative, or at least it gives me another meal for the food queue.

When I was offered the opportunity to watch, review, and give away this 5 DVD holiday collection of some of our favorite shows from NCircle, it was right up our alley.

The Wiggles, “It’s Always Christmas With You!,” includes a mix of 14 original new tunes and seasonal favorites. It’s the first holiday DVD in seven years from the beloved platinum-selling band from Down Under, and it features celebrity guests including ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone, who sings a sweet rendition of “O Holy Night.” We love it because it introduces children to the diverse ways different cultures celebrate the holidays and The Wiggles are always good, clean, fun.

“The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That: Told From the Cold” DVD has four episodes from the popular PBS Kids series. Actor-comedian Martin Short is the voice of The Cat in the Hat, and I love his characters in movies. The four episodes on this learning-and-fun-filled DVD are: Snowman’s Land, Flight of the Penguin, A Long Winter’s Nap and Reindeer Games. The girls really liked the episode on the penguin named Percy and learn how to waddle like a penguin and love to sing along to the easy songs.

My favorite DVD is “WordWorld: New Happy Holiday WordFriends”. The show is an Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids series for obvious reasons. This DVD features three holiday-themed episodes: The Christmas Star, A Christmas Present for Dog, and Duck’s Family Reunion – plus a bonus music video, Dancing Dog. I love how the characters demonstrate that it is better to give than receive. Great messages to be had in this DVD for sure.

The DVD that Miss A requests the most is: “Chloe’s Closet: Winter Wonderland”. The DVD features four episodes: On Frozen Pond, Best in Snow, Getting to Snow You, and Icing Escapades. Miss A loves that the girls turn into snow princesses and make snowflakes and also one of the episodes features Chloe ice skating, pretty nice since we don’t get much of the white stuff here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Lastly, “The Fairies: Christmas Wishes in Fairyland” is a DVD where Fairyland is transformed into a magical Christmas setting. Tiny tots will sing and dance along to their favorite Christmas carols {and some of mine too} and learn new songs as they celebrate the joys of the season with the beautiful fairies, Harmony and Rhapsody! I love that my girls can learn traditional Christmas carols through this DVD.

Overall we are pleased and love every one of these DVDs and think they are great for the Christmas/Winter-y weather season and I highly recommend them for long trips or even short moments of fun for your kiddos. They would even be great for a holiday movie viewing party since there are no scary parts, no questionable moments, and some good messages for our kiddos.

I recently found out that Carmex has a skin care line. I am always looking for new products to try out on the girls’ skin to help with their dryness, so this came at the perfect time.

I started off trying their Healing Lotion, which is a daily moisturizer that contains aloe & vitamin E. I love the smell because it smells like Carmex Lip Balm, but not overwhelming. I was a little nervous about application because the cream felt a little oily as I put it on the girls and for a few seconds after, but oddly enough it actually feels silky smooth after it soaks into the skin.

For my girls mild eczema the Healing Lotion was just not enough to keep them scratch-free for too long, so we tried out Carmex’s Healing Cream. The Healing Cream has nine ingredients that are made specifically to soothe really dry, rough skin. This cream also has the cool non-greasy {after a minute} feel and awesome Carmex light scent. We used this on the girls right after bath and apply whenever they are feeling itchy. I feel like it definitely helps control a little bit of the discomfort, but may not be enough for their skin types. We’ve actually gone through our samples maybe double as fast as someone who may just have average dry skin, so we may be good candidates for the Healing Ointment. Yes, that’s right there’s another skin care product by Carmex. We haven’t been able to try it yet, but it sounds a lot like Aquaphor and other skin soothing ointments.

All in all we like these Carmex products and I will keep using what we have left and would probably buy the lotion/cream for myself, but will continue my search for a thicker, more long-lasting product for my girls.

As a child I loved making family videotapes on VHS tapes, but now we have no way to view these fun memories. Instead of having them collect dust in your house, you can now through YesVideo conveniently transfer them to DVDs. This a great service where you can send your old homemade videotapes, 35mm slides, movie film reels, prints, and digital videos and photos and have them nicely converted to a DVD or Blu-ray disc to view in your home. So how does it work? Log onto Yesvideo.com and start the easy step-by-step guidelines for your order. I chose to send some old VHS tapes and prints that were not in digital format. When creating your DVD, you are able to choose special features like a personalized title, background, and music style. I was also able to choose the order in which the photos would be in for the DVD. Then print out a shipping label and send it off. In a few weeks you will be enjoying a new DVD format. I was a bit skeptical at how the finished product would look, and had some questions before sending in my order. The customer service folks at YesVideo were helpful and pleasant to speak with. After receiving my finished product I was amazed at how much detail they put into the DVD. It was great seeing my pictures come to life, not to mention my old family videotapes. Plus the DVD also had some one-minute movie trailers that were great to watch.

The cost of this service – conversion and shipping – can add up, but relieving old memories was money well spent. There will be smiles and maybe tears when you view your DVD. One minor setback for me was not having finished samples of the product to view online. While they do give samples of the backgrounds I wanted to see what the finished product would look like all together. The music selection for your DVD if doing prints or slides was also too limited for my tastes, only about 25 basic instrumental tracks to choose from. It was a bit disappointing, but I was still able to find something suitable and with everything put together in a finished piece it turned out great!

Of course, with the right program and a good deal of time, the technologically-savvy person could do some of these services themselves. So, for picture prints and digital formats, I found this to be more of a convenience. This would be very time consuming if done on your own and with YesVideo you send in your prints and you are done. As far as VHS, 35mm slides, and picture reels this is great. It is a nice way to view your past memories and share them with loved ones.

Overall, the services provided by YesVideo are valuable, and it seems they’ve found a nice all-in-one place to get your old memories in a format where you can enjoy them again and again. So, remember the tissues and enjoy the show!

Finding it hard to keep my lips soft and smooth I decided that I would do two things:

a. Drink large gulps of water even when I don’t feel like it because it’s good for me, it’ll make my hair less static-y as it gets cooler and of course it’ll hydrate my body including my lips.

Welcome to the 2-Year Blog Extravaganza!! {insert bells, whistles, confetti here} Welcome, and thanks for stopping by. Yes, you heard it right it’s the second anniversary of when I first started this blog. Although it seems like so long ago, it really has only been 730 days since i first embarked on an opportunity to rule the world.

Okay, to be completely honest with you the reason I started this blog 2 years ago was basically because I saw other people getting cool stuff for free and thought to myself, “I can TOTALLY do that!” And even in the mere “deux” years, I have grown as a blogger, my thoughts on blogging as a whole have changed, and I’d like to think I’ve learned a thing or two as well.

I hope that you too have noticed that I am now leaning towards working with brands that I can build a relationship with, brands who care about you, my readers, and that I don’t want to be the “brand PR’s one-night-stand”. For me it is not as gratifying working with a company one time and never hearing from them or contacting them ever again. I want to build my brand while having the opportunity tell you about things I am truly passionate about and things I think you will love as well.

Yes it sounds sappy, but all my life my rewards have been focused more on helping others and being happy rather than the number of zero’s on my paycheck. And if you’re in it for the paycheck that’s fine too, just not as personally rewarding for me. Someday I know I’ll get paid good money for doing something I really love, {since I already get paid in hugs and kisses from my girls and hubby too} but in the meantime I enjoy partnering up with some amazing bloggers, awesome brands, and hopefully entertaining amazing readers, you!

To those who’ve been with me since the beginning, thank you, really, thank you and for the new-bees {pun intended}, welcome, and I hope we can make lots of memories together.
