Kids Fall Fashion Tips – See Kai Run Giveaway

This is a sponsored post/giveaway in partnership with Nakturnal

Fall is here and that means more than just pumpkin spice everything. It means it’s time to start switching your kiddo’s wardrobe to long sleeves and pants. This past weekend I started organizing the girls’ closets. Donating clothes that are too small for C and pulling out big sister’s hand-me-downs for Fall. Miss A’s closet is a different story, since she’s the oldest I realized we need to make some shopping trips in the very near future.

While Miss A doesn’t love to go shopping, she definitely has her very own style even at the ripe age of 9. Don’t you miss the younger ages when most of the time you could just choose what your child would wear without much input from them?? {I know some kids are born opinionated when it comes to clothes, but I “got away” with picking out clothes for a while with Miss A.}

Now that the time is upon us, I figured I would share some of our favorite tips for shopping for Fall clothes.

Head to consignment sales

Fall is a great time to head to the consignment sales, when you’re ready to swap out seasons. A lot of consignment stores and sales will have Fall items at a reduced rate. I’ve been noticing some great specials on some of my favorite consignment stores and at Kid-t0-Kid I can take the clothes that C has grown out of and use the store credit to buy new-to-us clothes for Miss A.

Take advantage of online sales

Online resources tend to have great deals right now and if you know your child’s size you’re bound to get what you need at a good price. Plus it’s easier for your child to choose the looks they like without having to head to the stores after school or even worse ….. on weekends!!! Plus aren’t these shoes adorable???

Consign online

If you’re not in love with my first two tips, maybe you can combine them and find consignment choices online. My blogger friend Brittany Dixon raves about ThredUp.com. She uses the service to buy used clothing for her sweet girls and seems to love it. PS, there are other companies who do this as well but I wanted to recommend a brand I’ve heard good things about.

Clothing swap

Sadly, we don’t have too many friends who hand us down for Miss A but C gets some adorable clothes from friends so her closet is always bursting with lots of options for Fall fashion. Some moms choose to host a clothing swap in their home, our school is also great about having uniform swaps, and we pack up boxes to give to our friends letting them know whatever their girls won’t wear they are free to donate or give to a friend.

Since sometimes updating your child’s Fall wardrobe can get a little pricey, I’m giving away a $50 giftcard to help you out.

Fresh Footwear Style for Back to School for the Whole Family

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Rack Room Shoes, all opinions are my own.

While DaddyB and I admittedly aren’t returning to school {props to parents who do!!}, we tell our girls that school is their job and well, our jobs keep us pretty busy too.

Just because the four of us are busy doesn’t mean we don’t want to have a fresh look for our whole family.

My childhood memories of Back to School shopping always included a couple of pairs of shoes if we were able to afford it.With my girls I like to buy them one pair of dress shoes and one pair of sneakers to start the school year off right.

We headed to Rack Room Shoes to take a look at what they had available, knowing they always carry really fun sneakers, great Fall boots, and cute dress shoes too.

(It’s safe to say they had a very fun, stylish first day of school. Shoes by Rack Room Shoes.)

First Day of School Shoes MommyB

Back to School Shoe Shopping for Kids

After several very methodical rounds of “eenie-meenie” we were able to land on these adorable, light-up sneakers (they even have an on/off button!)

Our dress shoe search didn’t end up quite the same, however Rack Room Shoes delivered, literally.

We chose a great ballet flat style, but unfortunately none were in stock in the store. With Rack Room’s Ship2Home service, we were guaranteed that the style and size shoes we were looking for would be delivered right to our front door, no having to return to the store or drive to another store.

Unfortunately, the shoe style didn’t fit my girls long and narrow feet, but the return policy at Rack Room Shoes made it super easy (and not stressful) for me to take the girls back in and start our dress shoe search again. During that trip we were able to find two pairs of mary jane type dress shoes in the exact sizes we needed, {maybe these were the shoes we should have picked out all along.}

At the end of our search we ended up with two great pairs of shoes for the girls {in the same brand and style} and a happy mom too!

Back to School Work Shoe Shopping for Mom and Dad

Following that same note, I wanted in on freshening up my footwear for my job too. I decided I would get a pair of dress shoes for meetings and events and a pair of fun sneakers for my job as mommy and errands.

Back to School Mom Job Shoes

DaddyB got the dress shoes memo but since he spends a large portion of his time at work, fittingly so, he freshened up his look with a couple of pairs of dress shoes.

The styles and prices at Rack Room Shoes made it really easy and affordable for our family of four to buy several pairs of quality shoes. We really enjoyed our experience shopping with Rack Room Shoes. The store was clean, associates were helpful and friendly, the return policy and Ship2Home are Ah-mazing, and the styles and discounts are pretty awesome too.

Next time our family makes a shoe purchase I know where we are headed… Rack Room Shoes.

If you’ve started Back to School shopping you may have noticed some of the fun trends that are out this Fall. It really seems like each season is so different and this Fall has a lot of fun looks especially when it comes to footwear.

Some trends you’ll see and that your kids may have already asked for include:

For the Girls

  • Canvas – bright solid colors or patterned canvas are both in this season
  • Cowboy Boots & Western Styles – though there are some parts of the country these never go out of style, they’re extra hot right now
  • Combat Boots – these can be seen in traditional colors, bright colors and even patterns too

For the Boys

  • Boat Shoes – come in easy to slip-on styles
  • Converse – even more new styles and colors this season
  • Low-Rise Boots – for a dressier look

Now that your mind is on the recent trends, maybe you’re thinking of your trendy family, and if not trendy then surely good looking family!

About Models Wanted

As part of its popular Models Wanted contest, Rack Room Shoes has spotlighted real customers – instead of professional models – in all of its seasonal advertisements over the past decade.

Every year, the family footwear retailer hosts the much-anticipated Models Wanted contest, inviting families to enter for a chance to participate in a glamorous photo shoot and be featured on the retailer’s website, advertising inserts and display signage in more than 385 stores nationwide.

All Models Wanted winners receive five-star treatment, including professional hair and makeup and chauffer services at the photo shoot.

Throwback

To commemorate the program’s 10th anniversary, Rack Room Shoes brought back participating individuals and families from the last 10 years to return to the set as Rack Room Shoes models.

Rack Room Shoes reached out to former Models Wanted families and individuals last year through emails and social media posts and invited them to enter its “Models Wanted 2014: Anniversary Edition Contest” for the chance to be selected as models again. Fans on Rack Room Shoes’ Facebook page then voted for the families they’d like to see featured for a second time.

Each winning family was also given $5,000 from Rack Room Shoes to donate to the charity of their choice.

Enter your family

Rack Room Shoes is currently in search of families to be the next Models Wanted participants. Winners’ photos will be showcased throughout the retailer’s 2015 seasonal advertising campaigns, displayed on the website and social media channels, in newspaper ads and in-store signage!

10 Things I Heart in Spring

10-Things-I-Heart-Spring

I decided that I would not write about Spring on my blog until it finally felt like Spring here in Charlotte, NC, however today, it’s going to be up in the 80s so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to write this considering the summer-like weather we are having. Then again, how can I not share with you things I’m hearting this Spring?!?!

Disneyland in the Spring MommyB
1. Traveling – Although we’re in the midst of packing for our move in June, we have been traveling a lot this Spring. We had the opportunity to visit Disneyland in California, where the weather was amazing and we had a BLAST! And we just returned from an amazing trip to Georgia where we visited the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola (I’ll have trip reports on both soon!) Where have you traveled this Spring or where are you traveling to?

Build-a-Bear Spring2. New friends – We have been making lots of new friends this Spring! We recently started going to story hour at the church we’ve been attending and making new friends there AND in stuffed friend news, we got a new Spring Build-A-Bear friend who is an ADORABLE Soft & Sweet Lamb ($18) She has fluffy white fur that’s perfect for cuddling. Our little lamb is all dressed up for Spring and tea parties AND at Build-A-Bear you can also add scents so your furry friends smell oh-so-sweet, how cool is that?!?

3. Outside Fun – We are blessed to have a nice, flat, and decent size backyard so lately we’ve been spending a lot of time outside. If it’s nice out I’ll let Miss A do her homework outside and of course lots of chalk, bubbles, running, scooters/bikes, and water table play. How about you??

4. Spring Cleaning – I know this sounds soooo strange, but I really do love organizing and cleaning, even though these days I don’t have quite as much time as I’d like to do either. Luckily, the move gives me a great excuse to do a little bit of both. I’ve been trying out a few new cleaning products including some Method products and Nature’s Kloth.

We try to be a little more eco-friendly here and there and both of these products help. We’ve been using Nature’s Kloth instead of a sponge and replacing the way we clean with paper towels to create less waste. I love that it’s eco-friendly (biodegradable, washable over 300 times, made from cotton and plant fiber, and more) and is great for many uses inside and outside the house. I definitely feel better about cleaning when there isn’t a huge pile of used papertowels in my trash.

5. Healthy Kiddos – I am super thankful for healthy kiddos. Lately we’ve been pretty healthy especially considering that we’ve been flying and traveling a lot. We have a lot of friends who have not been so fortunate this Spring. For those uncomfortable fevers and painful colds and aches we give our girls Children’s Advil. For Lil’ C who does not do well with any sort of pain, this does the trick for us. I love that they have so many flavors (and dye-free versions) too since she doesn’t care for most medicine flavors. Plus, they have some fun activities and tips for parents on how to stay healthy.

Garden Lites Collage

We also love that our girls like healthy foods like Garden Lites. Miss A surprisingly enjoyed these gluten-Free, veggie muffins. They’re high in fiber, and low in fat. Miss A’s favorite flavor was: Zucchini Banana Chocolate Chip. They have loads more flavors and come in a box of 4 with an SRP of $3.99.

Lee Fashion Spring Capris

6. Spring Clothes!! – I love a good infinity scarf, especially the beautiful chevron one that one of my friends gave me for my birthday, but I really enjoy wearing comfy Spring clothes. I love wearing adorable maxi and sun dresses because they are so flowy and comfortable.

I am also loving the new Lee Spring collection that features bermuda shorts and capris that are comfortable while being dressy at the same time. If I need to dress up an outfit some of their capris and shorts come with adorable, fashionable belts as well. Here are a few of my other favorites from their collection:

Lee Spring Collection

7. Parties – I always love a good get-together and with the girls’ birthdays, holidays and end of school coming for us, Spring is always filled with fun parties and celebrations. We’ll have a small birthday get together for Miss A {since we went to Disneyland the girls aren’t getting their usual HUGE parties}, a class party for the end of the year {here’s an end of the year gift idea}, and loads of friends birthday parties.

Iesodo Video8. Good Message Movies – We were sent a couple of videos from Iesodo (pronounced Ya-Sa-Doe) that retells Bible stories with animated animals, mainly birds. My girls LOVED the videos and have been singing the catchy songs every day since we’ve watched them. We love sharing these videos with our friends because we know the language and content are appropriate for all viewers. Even if you have no religious affiliation, but want your children to learn good values, these videos promote wholesome character traits and morals and is good for children of any age.

9. Pasta Salad – Of course you can eat pasta salad anytime of year, but this is the season pasta salads shine! I really love cold, crisp salads with lots of veggies. What’s your favorite pasta salad recipe?

B girls with Genevive Goings Choo Choo Soul at Disneyland

10. Meeting Amazing People – Not that this is necessarily a Spring thing, but since we went to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, we were able to meet some pretty amazing people. One of our favorites though was Genevieve Goings from Choo Choo Soul with Genevieve.

Miss A says her favorite person/character she met the entire stay was Genevieve and we met a lot of people/characters so that says a lot. Of course we fell in love with Genevieve on Disney/Disney Junior with her Choo Choo Soul songs and realized she did more music for Disney as well as a round up of songs from Disney classic movies.

We’re excited to hear that her first Independent Children’s Album for pre-schoolers is called “Do You Know?” and releases June 3, with the first single “My Telephone Number Is” available NOW on iTunes. The album focuses on learning key fundamentals with Genevieve’s unique brand of “Kids Music with Soul.” I got an exclusive preview of the songs on her new album and wow!

My girls love to dance and sing and they get that from their mommy, this is one album you will not be able to contain the dancing. Our favorite songs are: “My Telephone Number Is” {great for helping your child learn your phone number, a MUST}, “Inside Voice” {which is rockin’ and rowdy in the best possible way and teaches kids when and where to use their inside/outside voice} and surprisingly, “Gotta Do My Business” {a potty song with swagger}.

I love when kids music is both appropriate and enjoyable and Genevieve definitely accomplishes that with the album. I can’t wait to buy a copy for our family and give one away on the site along with a few other goodies! In honor of Spring, I’m giving away a $25 Build-A-Bear gift card, 2 copies of Iesodo DVDs (Faith and Love) and once it’s available on June 3rd, a copy of Genevive Goings’ new album.

“Moms Mean More” Concord Mills Event {Giveaway}

Maureen Oboyle Jennifer BullockThis weekend Concord Mills hosted their, “Moms Mean More” fashion show, hosted by WBTV’s Maureen O’Boyle. Not only did this fashion show feature clothing available for purchase at several of the outlet’s stores, but through the event they were also able to promote Dress for Success, a local charity helping women get into the workforce, and honor two deserving moms: Fridonna Shepard-Steele – A graduate of Dress for Success Charlotte and Anita Dean Arnette – Moms Mean More online essay contest winner.

The fashion show showcased looks from several of the mall’s stores including, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Banana Republic Factory Store, maurices, Kasper/Jones NY Outlet, The Children’s Place Outlet, Aerosoles, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Old Navy, VF Outlet, P.S. by Aeropostale, and Tommy Bahama Outlet.

Concord Mills Clothes MommyB

I had the pleasure of speaking with some of the representatives from a few stores and learning more about the brands and what they represent. In some exciting news Brooks Brothers‘ clothing will be featured in The Great Gatsby movie remake, and the store also sells clothing for women as well. Shocking, I know!

Since bermuda shorts are in for this season’s fashion trends, Tommy Bahama was an obvious choice for the fashion show. Not only were we transported to island life when we walked into the store, but the fabric choices and styles were very in line with the mission of the original owners. I fell in love with some of the looks and may have to go back and grab some dresses and tanks for my upcoming trips for Social Media Moms #jerseylove and Myrtle Beach.

During the fashion show my favorite piece was from Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th and was a beautiful linen dress with a matching hat. The model wore the look fabulously and it looked not only great for the spring/summer, but also expensive yet comfortable.

The models were great, I definitely had my favorites and was only able to capture a few in my videos because of their stopping points. The male models were hilarious, and the crowd finally started getting “into” the fashion show when the adorable children came out to show their looks. Here are some of my favorite clips from the show:

I loved the look that was featured from Old Navy with an adult female model and a little girl who were wearing matching outfits. I wished there were more sets like this featured, especially since it was a Mother’s Day event and I of course am biased as a mom.

Several of the stores that were featured in the fashion show have outlet prices every day on their items, but also have additional savings for the Mother’s Day holiday. Make sure you stop by Concord Mills between now and Mother’s Day to find a special mom in your life something she’ll really love, at a great price too!

Also, Concord Mills is giving one lucky MommyB Knows Best reader a chance to win a $100 Simon Gift Card that can be used anywhere in the US that accepts American Express. Enter here:
