Gluten-Free, Egg-Free, Peanut-Free Candy {Guest Review}

My 2 year old daughter has a giant sweet tooth and as much as I try to curb it, sugar still sneaks into her diet. We also have to deal with gluten intolerance and an egg allergy, which can make finding a safe treat difficult.

So, when I had the chance to sample some of the candies from Gimbal’s Fine Candies, I was so excited. Not only are they allergen free (think no gluten, peanuts, egg, etc), but they are also free of high fructose corn syrup! Plus, knowing that they are made with real fruit juice, this momma couldn’t say “no”.

Gimbal’s was nice enough to send us the gourmet jellybeans and the Cherry Lovers to sample. With the gourmet jellybeans, we had fun picking through the jellybeans and guessing each of the 41 flavors. With fun unique flavors like pomegranate, boysenberry, or even baja margarita, Gimbal’s quickly worked their way into being a favorite brand of jellybean. Their website also has 20 recipes for fun new jellybean flavors like Key Lime Pie and Blueberry Muffin.

The biggest hit in our house, though, was the Cherry Lovers selection we received. With flavors like cherry vanilla, cherry cheesecake (which really tastes like cheesecake!), wild cherry, and cherry kiwi , the cherry lover in your family will definitely be satisfied with the selection. My husband thought he was in candy heaven. So much so, that within four days, my husband had eaten both bags of the Cherry Lovers jellybeans! I’ve already had to order a large container to satisfy his cherry craving.

There are several size choices with Gimbal’s candies, but I received the 13-14oz packages. For $4.29 a bag, we will definitely get some more for an occasional treat.

What is your family’s favorite treat?

Back to School – School Supplies Round-up

I was provided some samples of the following and others are included because I liked the products and companies.

Cool Back to School Supplies MommyBKnowsBestWhether your child is about to start school after the Labor Day holiday or has already started, here are a few cool school supplies that I found that are not essential to have on the first day and may even be on discount after school starts {wink, wink}.

Because Miss A’s school provides a great shopping list for school supplies for the school year we didn’t have to buy many items that weren’t on the list. Of course as a curious mom, I’m always scouring the web for really cool school products, if not for Miss A then for kiddos we know. In my search I found some really fun, helpful items that I wanted to share with you. Take a look, and be sure to share with friends!!

Back to School Supplies MommyBKnowsBest

1. Every child needs a backpack right? These cool, non-character backpacks are great for school. The owl backpack from Skip Hop ($20) is the perfect size for preschoolers and Kindergartners and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Hard Shell Neoprene 16″ Backpack is soft and comes with a really cool mask {different colored masks available}.

2. Going Old School with Mead Trapper Keeper 3 Ring Binder ($15.99) Not only is this truly a nostalgia piece {I definitely considered buying myself one when we were school shopping}, but they’re truly a nostalgia piece. Seriously though, I love Mead products, and why mess with a classic right? These binders come in several colors and they’ve also updated the look if your child doesn’t want to go “old school”.

3. Every time I pack Miss A’s lunch I put a note in with it, whether it’s silly or sentimental, this is just something I wanted to do to make her school day special. There are a million lunch notes out there, but I love Oriental Trading Company, and found this Pack of 60 Lunch Box Notes – Colorful Inspirational and Motivational Cards for Kids, 2 x 3.5 Inches , they’re colorful, fun, and they’re really affordable too!

4. PersonalCreations.com is another one of my favorite websites to buy from. As I was looking for fun lunchboxes, I stumbled on these adorable personalized lunch boxes ($19.99) (that come in several styles for both boys and girls). Unlike some other personalized lunch boxes, I like that these are fabric aka washable, and that you can read the name on the product {so many are too patterned where the name is not legible}.

5. Want to be the cool parent? Featured in the image above are keycals from kidecal.com, not only does kidecal.com carry these cool decal stickers {designed to customize your keyboard}, but they have labels for your children’s belongings, mustache stickers, allergy alerts. Really this is a great place to shop for dishwasher safe, washing machine safe, no-residue-left-behind, decal/stickers. Prices vary depending on the product, but beware, if you go to the website you may just find something for yourself too…

6. If you want to “spice” up your child’s lunch, make it squeezable {phew that really is a word}. I love BooginHead Squeez’Ems Reusable Food Pouches (2 Pouches) because you can make your own creations and pack them for your kiddo, or send them to school filled with your child’s favorite applesauce, yogurt, smoothie. They’re really easy to open and freezer, microwave and top rack dishwasher safe.

What cool back-to-school item did you purchase or do you have your “eyes on”?

I received review samples from Squeez’Ems and Kidecals for this review. All opinions and thoughts in this post are my own honest words. Your opinions may vary, and I would love to hear them if you want to leave a comment. Please note as with any item for sale online prices are subject to change {since I have no control over that}.

ERGO Baby LogoYou go, I go, ERGO. Sorry that’s the first thing that popped into my head. Seriously though, everyone needs to get an ERGO Baby Carrier. I was very fortunate to be able to try this baby carrier out and I’ll tell you why in a minute.

Let me first start by saying I’ve tried a number of baby carriers including Infantino’s Eurorider, BabyBjorn classic, and Wrap ‘n Wear to name a few. So, since I’m a baby carrier floosie I know a thing or two about ERGO’s competitors. I think for the most part ERGO really stands out from the crowd. While there are a lot of different carriers structured like ERGO and some big name companies are making their own versions of the ERGO, ERGO seems to have all their pieces in place. Read More

Modest Middles Guest Review

Please help me welcome guest blogger, Jessica, she is a proud stay at home mother of an almost three year old boy and a brand new daughter. In her spare time (yeah right) she likes to cook, garden, make baby food and maybe raise some hens, if she can convince her husband. She has fun raising her kids in Oak Park, Illinois and has tried out some pretty cool products, her first being Modest Middles.

modest middlesBreast feeding my two children has been one of the most important commitments I have made to them in their lives. The emotional connection I have with them as well as the health benefits for both of us has been wonderful. It is a commitment though!  With my first child, I was very modest and discreet about nursing him. Sometimes I would even go into restrooms to nurse just because I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable. Sitting in a restroom nursing is not the most pleasant especially if they don’t have a “mothers room.” Covering him up with blankets just seemed  like it was too hot (he was born in August). No blanket or “hooter hider” ever covered me enough. I always felt like my wobbly bits were hanging out. Anyone who is a mother knows what areas I’m speaking of – your tummy, your sides and now newly huge breasts full of milk! Let’s not forget to mention the juggling act that has to be preformed when getting your breast OUT of your bra to nurse, then back IN with the nursing pad – with one hand because you still have to hold the baby right? Wait, we are sweating too right? Maybe crying too? Love those hormones!  Or how about us mom’s of toddlers and infants. Ever try chasing a toddler around while nursing? At home it’s okay – in public….. not so much.
Ahhhhhhh…. makes going out tough. Read More

Japanese Weekend Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

japanese_weekend_logoThe first time I became a mom everything was new to me, even from the moments after recovering from my c-section. This time around, with Baby C, I decided that a lot of things would be different. From what I packed in my hospital bag to the way I nursed and even the way I put Baby C down for naps and sleep.

A few other decisions I had made were regarding choices that were hopefully going to make my stay in the hospital and even being at home easier.  With Little Miss A I wore the hospital gown the entire time I was in the hospital, which was fine, but this time I thought wearing something different during my stay would make me feel more fresh and prettier, so I opted for Japanese Weekend Maternity wear. Let me tell you I am so glad that I found Japanese Weekend Maternity!
