10 Things I Heart in Spring

10-Things-I-Heart-Spring

I decided that I would not write about Spring on my blog until it finally felt like Spring here in Charlotte, NC, however today, it’s going to be up in the 80s so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to write this considering the summer-like weather we are having. Then again, how can I not share with you things I’m hearting this Spring?!?!

Disneyland in the Spring MommyB
1. Traveling – Although we’re in the midst of packing for our move in June, we have been traveling a lot this Spring. We had the opportunity to visit Disneyland in California, where the weather was amazing and we had a BLAST! And we just returned from an amazing trip to Georgia where we visited the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola (I’ll have trip reports on both soon!) Where have you traveled this Spring or where are you traveling to?

Build-a-Bear Spring2. New friends – We have been making lots of new friends this Spring! We recently started going to story hour at the church we’ve been attending and making new friends there AND in stuffed friend news, we got a new Spring Build-A-Bear friend who is an ADORABLE Soft & Sweet Lamb ($18) She has fluffy white fur that’s perfect for cuddling. Our little lamb is all dressed up for Spring and tea parties AND at Build-A-Bear you can also add scents so your furry friends smell oh-so-sweet, how cool is that?!?

3. Outside Fun – We are blessed to have a nice, flat, and decent size backyard so lately we’ve been spending a lot of time outside. If it’s nice out I’ll let Miss A do her homework outside and of course lots of chalk, bubbles, running, scooters/bikes, and water table play. How about you??

4. Spring Cleaning – I know this sounds soooo strange, but I really do love organizing and cleaning, even though these days I don’t have quite as much time as I’d like to do either. Luckily, the move gives me a great excuse to do a little bit of both. I’ve been trying out a few new cleaning products including some Method products and Nature’s Kloth.

We try to be a little more eco-friendly here and there and both of these products help. We’ve been using Nature’s Kloth instead of a sponge and replacing the way we clean with paper towels to create less waste. I love that it’s eco-friendly (biodegradable, washable over 300 times, made from cotton and plant fiber, and more) and is great for many uses inside and outside the house. I definitely feel better about cleaning when there isn’t a huge pile of used papertowels in my trash.

5. Healthy Kiddos – I am super thankful for healthy kiddos. Lately we’ve been pretty healthy especially considering that we’ve been flying and traveling a lot. We have a lot of friends who have not been so fortunate this Spring. For those uncomfortable fevers and painful colds and aches we give our girls Children’s Advil. For Lil’ C who does not do well with any sort of pain, this does the trick for us. I love that they have so many flavors (and dye-free versions) too since she doesn’t care for most medicine flavors. Plus, they have some fun activities and tips for parents on how to stay healthy.

Garden Lites Collage

We also love that our girls like healthy foods like Garden Lites. Miss A surprisingly enjoyed these gluten-Free, veggie muffins. They’re high in fiber, and low in fat. Miss A’s favorite flavor was: Zucchini Banana Chocolate Chip. They have loads more flavors and come in a box of 4 with an SRP of $3.99.

Lee Fashion Spring Capris

6. Spring Clothes!! – I love a good infinity scarf, especially the beautiful chevron one that one of my friends gave me for my birthday, but I really enjoy wearing comfy Spring clothes. I love wearing adorable maxi and sun dresses because they are so flowy and comfortable.

I am also loving the new Lee Spring collection that features bermuda shorts and capris that are comfortable while being dressy at the same time. If I need to dress up an outfit some of their capris and shorts come with adorable, fashionable belts as well. Here are a few of my other favorites from their collection:

Lee Spring Collection

7. Parties – I always love a good get-together and with the girls’ birthdays, holidays and end of school coming for us, Spring is always filled with fun parties and celebrations. We’ll have a small birthday get together for Miss A {since we went to Disneyland the girls aren’t getting their usual HUGE parties}, a class party for the end of the year {here’s an end of the year gift idea}, and loads of friends birthday parties.

Iesodo Video8. Good Message Movies – We were sent a couple of videos from Iesodo (pronounced Ya-Sa-Doe) that retells Bible stories with animated animals, mainly birds. My girls LOVED the videos and have been singing the catchy songs every day since we’ve watched them. We love sharing these videos with our friends because we know the language and content are appropriate for all viewers. Even if you have no religious affiliation, but want your children to learn good values, these videos promote wholesome character traits and morals and is good for children of any age.

9. Pasta Salad – Of course you can eat pasta salad anytime of year, but this is the season pasta salads shine! I really love cold, crisp salads with lots of veggies. What’s your favorite pasta salad recipe?

B girls with Genevive Goings Choo Choo Soul at Disneyland

10. Meeting Amazing People – Not that this is necessarily a Spring thing, but since we went to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, we were able to meet some pretty amazing people. One of our favorites though was Genevieve Goings from Choo Choo Soul with Genevieve.

Miss A says her favorite person/character she met the entire stay was Genevieve and we met a lot of people/characters so that says a lot. Of course we fell in love with Genevieve on Disney/Disney Junior with her Choo Choo Soul songs and realized she did more music for Disney as well as a round up of songs from Disney classic movies.

We’re excited to hear that her first Independent Children’s Album for pre-schoolers is called “Do You Know?” and releases June 3, with the first single “My Telephone Number Is” available NOW on iTunes. The album focuses on learning key fundamentals with Genevieve’s unique brand of “Kids Music with Soul.” I got an exclusive preview of the songs on her new album and wow!

My girls love to dance and sing and they get that from their mommy, this is one album you will not be able to contain the dancing. Our favorite songs are: “My Telephone Number Is” {great for helping your child learn your phone number, a MUST}, “Inside Voice” {which is rockin’ and rowdy in the best possible way and teaches kids when and where to use their inside/outside voice} and surprisingly, “Gotta Do My Business” {a potty song with swagger}.

I love when kids music is both appropriate and enjoyable and Genevieve definitely accomplishes that with the album. I can’t wait to buy a copy for our family and give one away on the site along with a few other goodies! In honor of Spring, I’m giving away a $25 Build-A-Bear gift card, 2 copies of Iesodo DVDs (Faith and Love) and once it’s available on June 3rd, a copy of Genevive Goings’ new album.

Kohl’s presents Jumping Beans Disney Themed Spring Children’s Clothing Collection

Whether you’re headed to Disney in the next few months or your kids just love Mickey, Minnie, and their friends, you’ll love the new Jumping Beans Disney children’s clothing collection featured right now in Kohl’s stores and on Kohls.com.

We popped into our local Kohl’s on April 3rd, the day the first themed collection in this line was available for purchase. The girls loved the display and spotted some of their favorite Disney characters featured in signage.

Kohls Jumping Beans Disney Collection #magicatplay

I love the quality of clothes that Jumping Beans offers and this collection is no different. You can tell the fabric is quality, durable and breathable for busy kids-at-play. The prices of the collection are exactly what I would expect to pay and if you have extra discounts {think signing up for Kohl’s emails, Kohl’s card, etc} you can purchase these adorable outfits for well under what you would pay for a non-Disney line.

I can’t wait for them to wear their dresses when we are at Disneyland later this week!!!

Disney Jumping Bean Childrens Clothing Line Kohls #magicatplay

This line is available for kids of all ages, infant, toddler, big boys and big girls. I got each of my girls {ages 4 and 6.5} a dress in their own size. Without additional discounts I spent around $45 (we normally spend $15-$24 when we buy new dresses).

Luckily, we have a Kohl’s that we pass on a daily basis, but if you don’t their website offers the entire line as well. (While supplies last). Head to a Kohl’s near you or Kohls.com to pick up some adorable boys and girls outfits from their New Jumping Beans Disney Magic at Play collection, and keep your eyes peeled for more collections to come.

In the meantime, enter to win a $50 Kohl’s gift card so you can purchase some of this line or other great items featured in Kohl’s stores and at Kohls.com:

Sofia the First: The Floating Palace

Have you seen commercials on Disney or Disney Junior for “Sofia the First: The Floating Palace”? When the girls saw this awesome special they were super excited, so I figured some of you your children may be excited too. Here are the details!!!

CLOVER, PRINCESS SOFIA, PRINCESS OONA

Sofia and her family take to the high seas for a royal vacation in the first-ever “Sofia the First” prime time special: “Sofia the First: The Floating Palace” premieres Sunday, November 24 at 7:00pm ET/PT on the Disney Channel.

The undersea adventure, in which Sofia is magically transformed into a mermaid, features a special appearance by Princess Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” voiced by Disney legend Jodi Benson who reprises her iconic role from the animated film. The special also introduces a new character named Oona, a young mermaid voiced by Kiernan Shipka (“Mad Men”).

PRINCESS ARIEL, PRINCESS SOFIA

***A full-length preview of “Sofia the First: The Floating Palace” will debut on WATCHDisneyJunior.com and the WATCH Disney Junior app for smartphones and tablets beginning Monday, November 11. The special will be simulcast on WATCH Disney Channel on Sunday, November 24 and will be available for download on iTunes, Amazon and Xbox beginning Monday, November 25.

“Sofia the First: The Floating Palace” takes Sofia and her family on an extraordinary journey to Merriway Cove, where Sofia meets a young mermaid named Oona. After helping Oona untangle her fin from a net, Sofia’s magical amulet transforms her into a mermaid too, allowing her to explore the underwater world with her new friend. During their adventure, Sofia learns that mermaids mistrust humans and are angry that her family’s floating palace is in their cove. When Oona is captured by a horrible sea monster, Sofia – with a little help from Princess Ariel – must find a way to save her and create harmony between their two worlds.

Will you be tuning in?? What do you like about “Sofia the First”? Anything you don’t like about the show???

What’s App-enning?? App Series: What’s Up Doc?

Thank you to Disney Junior for providing access to the Doc McStuffin’s Appisode for review purposes.

It seems like if we’re not at the doctor’s for a well-check, blood work, sick visit you name it, I’m on medical websites checking out what symptoms are or home remedies for small issues, and the girls are watching or pretending to play Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins.

Needless to say doctors are a big hit in our household. I even wanted to be a pediatrician when I was growing up. – random comment of the day.

I figured since medicine is on our brain I’d feature some of my favorite smartphone apps on that topic.

WebMD Mobile AppThe obvious choice for my first app, for a mom’s go-to when her family is ailing is of course the WebMD Mobile App. I love that I can not only read articles on whatever I’m searching for, but check out lots of helpful information for my specific area, {how cool is that?!?!}, WebMD shows me the health forecast, pollen counts, UV ray harshness and more. As a mom who’s trying to stay ahead of the game, this is a must-download in my book. Head HERE to read more details and if you want download on your smartphone.

For the kiddos, who, as I mentioned LOVE Doc McStuffins, Disney Junior has come out with an interactive episode, better known as an appisode, where your kiddos can watch a real Doc McStuffins episode and play along.

The Disney Junior Doc McStuffins app features activities to help rescue Ronda the helicopter, and save Boppy from deflating. With each of the mini-episodes there are several opportunities for your child to “help” their favorite characters and learn how to care for others as well.

Doc McStuffins Appisode

We like this app because it shows real episodes that my girls have seen on Disney Junior, and also that it’s not too difficult for my 3 year-old, and not too easy for my 6 year-old. The Disney Junior Appisode app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch is free and the Doc McStuffins App is available for $4.99 and you can see details or download HERE. (Also check out these other Disney Junior Appisodes)

Our family pharmacy go-to is CVS/pharmacy. I love their mobile app because it has some pretty helpful features that include: the option to scan our prescription refills, a drug interaction checker to make sure we aren’t in danger when it comes to taking several medications {prescription and over the counter OTC}, a pill identifier, prescription history which is great for remembering what my family has taken when doctors or medical staff need that information, and lots and lots more, seriously, this app does so many great things and saves me time not having to call my doctor’s office or wait to speak with a pharmacist.

CVS:pharmacy Mobile App

So those are a few of my favorite medical related apps, how about you? Do you like them too? Any that aren’t in this post that you want to share with us??

What’s App-enning?? App Series: Appy Mother’s Day

Hey hey, what’s App-enning? Appy early Mother’s Day! Today I’m highlighting a great, FREE, app for mom just in time for Mother’s Day, and also snuck in some fun and educational apps for the kiddos that ultimately helps mom out too, {think grocery store, doctor’s office, road trip…}

MommyB What's App-enning Series

As moms {and parents in general} we’re always recording videos of our kiddos. If you’re like me and you have an iPhone you may whip that thing out everytime your kiddo does something cute, which around these parts is pretty often! The conundrum….my files are ALWAYS way to big to go anywhere other than straight to my laptop. I can’t send them to grandmom via text or hubby through email and by the time I do upload them to my computer I pretty much forget who I wanted to send them to in the first place. {I can claim mommy brain even though Lil’ C is 3 right?!?}

Enter: Joya, a Godsend iPhone app that lets you send videos regardless of their size to any recipient with text or email abilities.  Yep, you heard me right, they don’t need an iPhone or the app themselves, although if they have one they may also want to download it.  plus another great feature is that the recipient of your videos doesn’t have to worry about having space to download or store the videos because Joya creates a URL for easy viewing. Another reason this app rocks is the fact that it’s so discrete, keeping your videos private.

Joya App

For more on Joya visit getjoya.com and download it to your iPhone for free!

Now for the kiddos:

If you are a regular appster you may have some of the Disney themed apps, but have you see Disney Junior Appisodes yet?? These cool apps allow your child to not only watch a Disney Junior show, but it allows them to become a part of the episode. Children interact with the app by saying key phrases and words, shaking the device, and clicking on the screen.

The directions given by Disney Junior characters are easy for little ones and exciting for the bigger ones. We love the fact that we can not only watch our favorite shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Neverland Pirates, but that we can almost jump into their world through these apps.

Lil’ C especially likes to play these apps over and over again.

Alien Buddies is great app little ones preschool through Kindergarten age. This app created by ArtGig Apps allow children to play matching games, dot-to-dots, puzzles, and play with stickers they earn. Each game has different levels based on your child’s skills. The game is easy enough for Lil’ C {age 3} and still fun for our advanced Miss A {almost 6 years}. Lil’ C loves it and is progressing through the levels, definitely one of our favorites.

Alien Buddies App

Head to their website to get more info and also check out the extra alien goodies: alien-buddies.com and check out ArtGig App’s other iPad, iPhone, and iPod learning apps for children of all ages.

Thanks to Disney Junior and Artgig Apps for providing me with access to the apps to share with my children and get their input for this review.

A Learning Adventure with Octonauts Toys

We are big Disney Junior fans, if you don’t know you should check out our Sofia the First Party Tips, Doc McStuffins show review, not to mention other Disney related goodness, just search “Disney” on the site. On that same note, one of my girls favorite Disney Junior fans, among Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins and the new Henry Hugglemonster is Octonauts.

For real, I didn’t think they would get into this show when they first started watching it. I’m not sure why, but compared to the other shows they tend to like this one seemed like one of the “not like the others” shows. Much to my surprise Octonauts, is one of their favorite shows, and one that they like to watch over and over again.

We love the crew of scientists and explorers that make up the Octonauts team. Captain Barnacles. Kwazzi, Peso, Shellington, Tweak, Dashi, and Tunip to name a few, all play an amazing part of the team work that it takes for this crew to do their job, and help sea creatures.

Because the girls are so enthralled by the work the Octonauts do and love learning about sea creatures, we were beyond excited to hear that they were coming out with a toy line. {See faces in photo below for reaction.}

No joke, this was their real expression when they opened their eyes and saw the Octonauts toys.

No joke, this was their real expression when they opened their eyes and saw the Octonauts toys.

MommyB Octonauts Toy Review

In that line up are some amazing toys that you and your kiddos can collect yourselves. Including:

Octonauts Octopod Playset – Retailing for $34.99 this cool playset is just like the one on the TV show, with over 10 play pieces including creatures, some of the Octonauts crew members, rescue tools, a clip-on Octo-Alert that has original Octonauts sounds and phrases.

***I recommend putting the stickers on before attaching the pods to the main piece otherwise it’s a tad more challenging. Otherwise this set is easy to put together and my girls love the “surprise” door. I like that some pieces clip to the Octopod, but do wish there was a compartment so we could move the Octopod and it’s pieces a little easier.

Octonauts Gup-B Mission Vehicle & Kwazzi – Retailing for $14.99 this is a great piece to purchase as a gift or add to your collection. This set includes Kwazzi, the Gup-B, a color-changing sea creature and a rescue tool.

***This toy is great for water play, and my girls loved that it was easy to get any of the Octonauts rescue crew in and out of the vehicle easily. It seems very sturdy and is great for hours of play.

Rescue Assortment Barnacles & Tunip – Retailing for $9.99 this is another piece that is great for a gift or just to add more crew members to your collection. Squirt water with Tunip, or enjoy hiding the color-changing sea creatures and playing with the clamshell that opens and closes.

***The girls adore Tunip and loved even more that they could squirt water with him, they also thought the clam was really cool as it opens and closes in the water.

Octonauts Octo-Compass – Retailing for $12.99 this is a MUST BUY! If your children love Octonauts, this compass has more than 60 phrases and sounds from the show.

*** The sounds don’t get repetitive and the kids loved pretending they were part of the crew and answering the characters. This and the Octopod were my favorite from the bunch although we enjoyed all the toys.

For more information on Octonauts in general make sure you check out their website Octonauts.com for games and adventures. Also check out their Facebook page. To shop for these awesome toys make sure you head to Toys “R” Us before they sell out!

Disney’s Sofia the First Party Tips

Sofia the First Party Cupcakes

Sofia the First

Wow!! If you didn’t get a chance to catch Disney’s premier episode of Sofia the First you missed out, but never fear, the movie will be showing again TODAY on  WATCH Disney Junior, Disney Junior On Demand and DisneyJunior.com and on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 22 (9:00-10:00 a.m., ET/PT).

We were able to invite some of our princess-y friends over tonight for a royal party. Here are a few small things that made our Sofia the First princess party a success. {Mind you this was a small party because it was a school night so we didn’t go “all-out” with decorations.}

Dress Up!! We asked each of the attendees to dress up in their favorite princess wear, whether it was a Disney princess costume or a fancy dress with costume jewelry. You can also provide a dress up trunk for the kids to choose outfits and accessories from too.

Look at these adorable princesses posing in front of the Sofia the First poster with their cute crowns and beautiful gowns:

Sofia the First Party Collage

Serve Royally Yummy Snacks. We had magic wands {fruit kabobs}, towns people, {gingerbread men cookies}, Princess Sofia the First cupcakes topped off with an adorable Princess Sofia cupcake topper, and of course no movie premier would be complete without magical popping corn, popped by the fairy godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather themselves!!

Sofia Snacks

Sofia the First Party Cupcakes

Make time for Enchanted Games and activities too. Whether you teach your little princesses and princes the right way to curtsey or bow or how to dance the waltz, there are a number of games and activities that are going to please every attendee. House Party sent me this wonderful book:

Sofia the First Book

Which was a fun read and also introduced the children to Sofia and the characters in the movie. My only wish was that it didn’t tell the same story as the movie so there were more surprises as we watched, but the illustrations were adorable and the children loved the suspense and the happy ending, and I even heard a lot of, “awwwww”s from the moms, er, queens who were in attendance too.

Reading Sofia the First Book

Overall, we had an amazing fun-filled time with friends, enjoyed the entire 1-hour movie with a few appearances from our favorite classic Disney Princess movies, and even learned some lessons about giving people second chances, and working together.

If you have the chance to throw a Sofia the First party, whether it’s for a special occasion, {or not} it’s bound to be a good one.

Signed, The Royal Queen MommyB and her two beautiful princesses!!

Disney’s Sofia the First Premier

Cinderella Princess Sofia the First

This coming Sunday, November 18 (7:00-8:00 p.m., ET/PT) Disney will introduce its first little girl princess with the debut of “Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess,” on the Disney Channel and again on Thursday, November 22 (9:00-10:00 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Junior. If you happen to miss it, the movie will also be available the following day on WATCH Disney Junior, Disney Junior On Demand and DisneyJunior.com.

Cinderella Princess Sofia the First

Set in the storybook world of Enchancia, the movie introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king and she becomes a princess, Sofia the First. Sofia must learn to navigate the extraordinary life of royalty while holding on to her own hopes and dreams. Her journey to being the best she can be also paves the way for those around her to realize how special they each are. Disney’s Cinderella makes an appearance in the movie to offer Sofia some words of wisdom – princess to princess.

Sofia’s royal adventure begins as she prepares to move into the castle with her mom, starting a new family with her step-father, King Roland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James. Helping Sofia in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy – Fauna, Flora and Merryweather (the beloved fairies seen in Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty”) and royal steward, Baileywick, as well as a group of cute woodland creatures led by a wise-talking rabbit, Clover. Sofia soon discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but displaying honesty, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace is what makes one truly royal.

Created for kids age 2-7 and their families, the stories of “Sofia the First” communicate positive messages and life lessons that are applicable to young children. While she lives in a captivating world of castles, wizards and flying horses, Sofia remains a relatable peer-to-peer princess who is experiencing many of the same social situations as young viewers at home including learning how to fit in, making new friends and mastering new skills.

Check out a fun Sofia the First music video here: Princess Sofia the First Music Video and browse the rest of the videos for more on this adorable Princess.

A “Sofia the First” television series will premiere in early 2013. The movie and series will roll out internationally through mid-2013 on both Disney Channels and Disney Junior channels.

Sofia the First

Since watching the preview trailers on Disney Junior Miss A and Lil’ C have been so excited, even as much so as to play the characters of Princess Sofia and her mother when they are dressing up.

We can’t wait for Sunday night because we’ll be hosting an amazing Princess Sofia Premier Party with our friends!

While we know you can’t be here in our home, we hope that you’ll be celebrating on Sunday too!!

And for birthday party ideas make sure you check out the post after our party filled with all sorts of Princess Sofia the First ideas and images!

Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins New Character: Glo-Bo

Doc McStuffins Hallie Lamby Stuffy Chilly

Disney Junior Logo RightsI don’t know when the tides changed but as of late the #1 channel my girls want to watch when we do turn the TV on is Disney Junior, and I am completely fine with that. I’m loving the return of Higglytown Heroes, {mainly because they bring back memories of when Miss A was Lil C’s age}, we also can’t get enough of Jungle Junction and their silly antics, and really we like most of the programming on Disney Junior.

Our all-time favorite these days though is Doc Mc Stuffins. Have you seen this show?!? Miss A has the type of personality where she’s a worrier and anxious about a lot of things {she may or may not get that from her mommy}. This show is perfect for her and children like her who get a little nervous about heading to the doctor’s office.

The main characters are a little girl and her stuffed animals. They’re always helping out broken toys making them feel better in the adorable play clinic, the fun part is when the stuffed animals come to life. Doc, Stuffy, Lamby, Hallie, and Chilly use the broken toys to show children different aspects of a doctor visit or hospital stay. Their songs, “I Feel Better” and “Time for your Check-Up” are very catchy and I always sing along with  my girls when we watch. I love that the songs help tell about treatment in a non-scary way. One line from “Time for your Check-Up” says, “It’s okay if you giggle, this will only tickle a little.”

Doc McStuffins Hallie Lamby Stuffy Chilly

This Friday, July 20th, a new character will be introduced to the “broken toy group”, his name is Glo-Bo. Glo-Bo is a six-handed toy monster with the voice of Jim Belushi.

GLO-BO Doc McStuffins

Show synopsis:

“Caught Blue-Handed” – When a mysterious rash of blue spots breaks out among some of the toys in the clinic, Doc traces the “Mystery Pox” back to Donny’s toy monster, Glo-Bo (voiced by Belushi) who had been finger-painting earlier in the day and forgot to wash his hands. This episode of Disney Junior’s “Doc McStuffins” airs FRIDAY, JULY 20 (9:00-9:30 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel and will also air on the Disney Junior channel.

I’m excited to meet Glo-Bo and watch Doc and her team of stuffed animal assistants go to work! Oh and I think the kids will like it too!!!

Have you watched Doc McStuffins or are you “stuck” on another Disney Junior show?

Images and show synopsis credit: ©(DISNEY JUNIOR)

I was not compensated or given anything to write this post. The above opinions are my own, honest opinions, we really do love Disney Junior and if we didn’t I wouldn’t say it.
