10 Things I Heart in Spring

I decided that I would not write about Spring on my blog until it finally felt like Spring here in Charlotte, NC, however today, it’s going to be up in the 80s so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to write this considering the summer-like weather we are having. Then again, how can I not share with you things I’m hearting this Spring?!?!

Disneyland in the Spring MommyB
1. Traveling – Although we’re in the midst of packing for our move in June, we have been traveling a lot this Spring. We had the opportunity to visit Disneyland in California, where the weather was amazing and we had a BLAST! And we just returned from an amazing trip to Georgia where we visited the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola (I’ll have trip reports on both soon!) Where have you traveled this Spring or where are you traveling to?

Build-a-Bear Spring2. New friends – We have been making lots of new friends this Spring! We recently started going to story hour at the church we’ve been attending and making new friends there AND in stuffed friend news, we got a new Spring Build-A-Bear friend who is an ADORABLE Soft & Sweet Lamb ($18) She has fluffy white fur that’s perfect for cuddling. Our little lamb is all dressed up for Spring and tea parties AND at Build-A-Bear you can also add scents so your furry friends smell oh-so-sweet, how cool is that?!?

3. Outside Fun – We are blessed to have a nice, flat, and decent size backyard so lately we’ve been spending a lot of time outside. If it’s nice out I’ll let Miss A do her homework outside and of course lots of chalk, bubbles, running, scooters/bikes, and water table play. How about you??

4. Spring Cleaning – I know this sounds soooo strange, but I really do love organizing and cleaning, even though these days I don’t have quite as much time as I’d like to do either. Luckily, the move gives me a great excuse to do a little bit of both. I’ve been trying out a few new cleaning products including some Method products and Nature’s Kloth.

We try to be a little more eco-friendly here and there and both of these products help. We’ve been using Nature’s Kloth instead of a sponge and replacing the way we clean with paper towels to create less waste. I love that it’s eco-friendly (biodegradable, washable over 300 times, made from cotton and plant fiber, and more) and is great for many uses inside and outside the house. I definitely feel better about cleaning when there isn’t a huge pile of used papertowels in my trash.

5. Healthy Kiddos – I am super thankful for healthy kiddos. Lately we’ve been pretty healthy especially considering that we’ve been flying and traveling a lot. We have a lot of friends who have not been so fortunate this Spring. For those uncomfortable fevers and painful colds and aches we give our girls Children’s Advil. For Lil’ C who does not do well with any sort of pain, this does the trick for us. I love that they have so many flavors (and dye-free versions) too since she doesn’t care for most medicine flavors. Plus, they have some fun activities and tips for parents on how to stay healthy.

Garden Lites Collage

We also love that our girls like healthy foods like Garden Lites. Miss A surprisingly enjoyed these gluten-Free, veggie muffins. They’re high in fiber, and low in fat. Miss A’s favorite flavor was: Zucchini Banana Chocolate Chip. They have loads more flavors and come in a box of 4 with an SRP of $3.99.

Lee Fashion Spring Capris

6. Spring Clothes!! – I love a good infinity scarf, especially the beautiful chevron one that one of my friends gave me for my birthday, but I really enjoy wearing comfy Spring clothes. I love wearing adorable maxi and sun dresses because they are so flowy and comfortable.

I am also loving the new Lee Spring collection that features bermuda shorts and capris that are comfortable while being dressy at the same time. If I need to dress up an outfit some of their capris and shorts come with adorable, fashionable belts as well. Here are a few of my other favorites from their collection:

Lee Spring Collection

7. Parties – I always love a good get-together and with the girls’ birthdays, holidays and end of school coming for us, Spring is always filled with fun parties and celebrations. We’ll have a small birthday get together for Miss A {since we went to Disneyland the girls aren’t getting their usual HUGE parties}, a class party for the end of the year {here’s an end of the year gift idea}, and loads of friends birthday parties.

Iesodo Video8. Good Message Movies – We were sent a couple of videos from Iesodo (pronounced Ya-Sa-Doe) that retells Bible stories with animated animals, mainly birds. My girls LOVED the videos and have been singing the catchy songs every day since we’ve watched them. We love sharing these videos with our friends because we know the language and content are appropriate for all viewers. Even if you have no religious affiliation, but want your children to learn good values, these videos promote wholesome character traits and morals and is good for children of any age.

9. Pasta Salad – Of course you can eat pasta salad anytime of year, but this is the season pasta salads shine! I really love cold, crisp salads with lots of veggies. What’s your favorite pasta salad recipe?

B girls with Genevive Goings Choo Choo Soul at Disneyland

10. Meeting Amazing People – Not that this is necessarily a Spring thing, but since we went to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, we were able to meet some pretty amazing people. One of our favorites though was Genevieve Goings from Choo Choo Soul with Genevieve.

Miss A says her favorite person/character she met the entire stay was Genevieve and we met a lot of people/characters so that says a lot. Of course we fell in love with Genevieve on Disney/Disney Junior with her Choo Choo Soul songs and realized she did more music for Disney as well as a round up of songs from Disney classic movies.

We’re excited to hear that her first Independent Children’s Album for pre-schoolers is called “Do You Know?” and releases June 3, with the first single “My Telephone Number Is” available NOW on iTunes. The album focuses on learning key fundamentals with Genevieve’s unique brand of “Kids Music with Soul.” I got an exclusive preview of the songs on her new album and wow!

My girls love to dance and sing and they get that from their mommy, this is one album you will not be able to contain the dancing. Our favorite songs are: “My Telephone Number Is” {great for helping your child learn your phone number, a MUST}, “Inside Voice” {which is rockin’ and rowdy in the best possible way and teaches kids when and where to use their inside/outside voice} and surprisingly, “Gotta Do My Business” {a potty song with swagger}.

I love when kids music is both appropriate and enjoyable and Genevieve definitely accomplishes that with the album. I can’t wait to buy a copy for our family and give one away on the site along with a few other goodies! In honor of Spring, I’m giving away a $25 Build-A-Bear gift card, 2 copies of Iesodo DVDs (Faith and Love) and once it’s available on June 3rd, a copy of Genevive Goings’ new album.

Turbo a Family Friendly Movie {Movie Review}

I received complimentary tickets to view this movie.

When it comes to entertainment for my family I’m a picky parent, so when I tell you I highly recommend the PG movie, “Turbo” you should know that this recommendation for me, is a big deal.

Turbo _voiced by Ryan Reynolds_ basks in the televised image of his idol race car driver Guy Gagne

Out in theaters today, this animated film will delight your entire family. Turbo features an all star line-up, including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Snoop Dogg, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Turbo is a snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world. His obsession with speed has made him an oddity and outsider in the slow and cautious snail community. Turbo desperately wishes he could escape the slow-paced life he’s living, and he gets that chance after a freak accident leaves him with the power of incredible speed. The newly turbo-charged Turbo embarks on an extraordinary journey to achieve the impossible: racing against the best that the Indianapolis 500 has to offer. Joining Turbo is his dedicated pit crew of racing snails – a ragtag group of trash-talking adrenaline junkies tricked out with shells that look like mini-street racing cars. Turbo is the ultimate underdog who achieves the impossible by refusing to let his limitations get in the way of his dreams.

Turbo -center, played by Ryan Reynolds- and the Racing Snails race to glory.

Miss A {age 6} and I took our friends, a mom and daughter (around the same age as Avery). We all really enjoyed the movie, and here’s why Miss A and I liked it:

  • GREAT background story. The underdogs, {Turbo and Tito} fighting for something they truly want, even when things don’t work out their way, but never giving up.
  • No “real” scary parts. There were a few really adventurous parts, and a couple of “bad guys”, but none of them really bothered Miss A nor were they inappropriately scary {no skulls, vicious anger, etc}
  • Awesome, fun animation. Some of the scenes were incredibly realistic.
  • My kind of music. The movie had a lot of music from “my time” some fun hip-hop songs, but really kept with the fast pace of the movie.
  • Camaraderie. I love the way the snail crew worked together, each playing their own role, and stepping in when they are needed.

Miss A:

  • The movie Turbo is super funny! I really liked White Shadow.
  • The 3D glasses were really cool, there were a few minutes I thought I could grab things in the air, but they were on the screen.
  • I want to see it again, and bring my little sister next time {age 3}

The only thing that Miss A didn’t like were the previews before the show, especially in 3D, so this may be a section of the show where you want to grab a snack or have your child engaged in an activity where they aren’t looking at the screen.

When considering if your child would like it, of course take into consideration their age, how many other movies in the theaters they’ve watched, and also their maturity.

To put an age range on this movie I would say it depends on if you are viewing in 3D or not. For the 3D version, because it is more interactive and can scare or intimidate smaller children I would say ages 5/6 years old and up, and for the standard version I would bring our 3 year old for sure, but that’s also because I know she would sit and watch and not be bored, and I feel very comfortable with the content of the movie as well.

I encourage you to check out Turbo and if you do, please come back and let me know what your and your children’s thoughts were on the movie!! Happy viewing.

I received complimentary admission to view this movie, but was not paid for this review. All opinions expressed in this post are my honest thoughts of me and Miss A’s. Your opinions may vary.

The Little Gym FamilyTired of toys consuming every area of your home?? What about a gift that will give your child hours of enjoyment and learning but just doesn’t fit into a box? We love The Little Gym classes for both our girls, whether they are in ballet, gymnastics, or one of the many active classes The Little Gym offers they are learning skills both physically and socially. We have classes at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman but you can also find a Little Gym class near you.

CVS Beauty Collage

Stocking stuffers can be the last item on your shopping list and sometimes the most difficult. I love shopping for little trinkets at CVS/pharmacy. When it comes to my stocking stuffer wishes I’d pick the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare Beauty Club picks. Some of my favorites are Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, Nuance Salma Hayek Walnut Body Scrub {it’s to die for!!}, and for fun, Katy Perry Lashes Oh My!{choose something modest or get fancy!} to name a few. All of these products are around $7 and under in CVS/pharmacy’s Beauty Club, perfect stocking stuffer price and size.

Our favorite Christmas movie to watch with our girls is Veggie Tale’s St. Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving. We like this movie because it tells about the person St. Nicholas and explains the reasons behind why we give gifts at Christmas time, something we try to teach our girls. You may even want to consider buying this one to watch before Christmas gets here. The lowest price I’ve found the video so far is on Walmart’s Website.

Won’t you share??? What’s going in the stockings at your house??

SECRET OF THE WINGS – Tinker Bell DVD/Blu Ray Review

Secret of the Wings Fairies

Journey with Tinker Bell and her fairy friends into the forbidden world of the mysterious Winter Woods, where curiosity and adventure lead Tink to an amazing discovery and reveal a magical secret that could change her world forever. SECRET OF THE WINGS Blu-Ray and DVD will be available to fly into your own home on October 23rd, 2012

After seeing Tinker Bell and her friends in Disney on Ice we were extremely excited to find out about her newest movie, “SECRET OF THE WINGS”. The older Miss A and Lil’ C get the more they are falling in love with Disney’s unique characters, including Tink  and her friends from Pixie Hollow.

Here’s a sneak peek from the movie that will be released in just a couple of days!!

MommyB loves:

  • That the movie doesn’t have a scary villian.
  • The storyline. I love that Tinker Bell finds out she has a sister and tries to spend time with her and that together they save the Pixie Dust Tree
  • All the new fairies that are featured, can’t wait for more movies to showcase Periwinkle and friends
  • The digital copy (in the set we received) that is great for putting on our computers, and i devices (iPod, iPhone)

The B girls love:

  •  The sisterly love in the movie
  • When Periwinkle took Tinker Bell on adventures in Winter Woods
  • The music was fun and exciting
Secret of the Wings Fairies

We loved the animations, characters, voices, and really, we loved the entire movie. We’ve watched it a total of 5 times already! This is a great movie for family night, a birthday or Christmas present, or for a road trip movie and is great for the entire family.

Check out Disney’s Fairy site to learn more about SECRET OF THE WINGS and pre-order your copy!

I received a copy of this video in order to give it an honest review. After all, how could I tell you my thoughts if I don’t watch it. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own honest opinions, yours may vary, but you’ll probably agree 🙂

Can’t Get Enough of Nick Jr.’s Peppa Pig Products

I posted about how much my girls, Miss A {age 5} and Lil’ C {age 2.5} love the Nick Jr. show, Peppa Pig in the post, We Love Nick Jr’s Peppa Pig a few months ago and now here I am raving about them again. It’s seriously good stuff though!!

Just in time for the holidays there are some new toys and products at Toys “R” Us for your Peppa loving family. My girls were able to play with and test out a Peppa Pig stuffed toy, the amazing Peppa Pig playhouse, a fun Christmas themed book, and a new Peppa Pig DVD.

Peppa Pig Collage

My girls fell in love with every.single.Peppa product we got, and here’s why…

Peek ‘n Surprise Playhouse and Peppa & Friends: Painting Together pieces by Fisher Price – This playhouse was super cool because the pieces that come with the house are “magical” but not really. For example one side of the bed is an image of a freshly made bed, and the other is a messy bed with toys. This feature is the same for the washing machine, oven, and most of the pieces that come with the house, I thought that was so neat, and the girls had no problem switching the sides and have been playing with the house regularly.

Peppa Playhouse Collage

Hug ‘n Oink Peppa by Fisher Price – This toy has several Peppa Pig original sayings, lots of giggles and is super cuddly. We had a hard time sharing this one, so we may have to buy another so each girl can have their own. Peppa’s dress comes off, so my girls had fun dressing her in their doll clothes too, and she retails for $21.99, not bad for a good-size stuffed animal who talks.

Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List Book and Muddy Puddles and Other Stories DVD– Kept my girls entertained, and laughing in typical Peppa Pig family style. We love the Pig family antics and these two products gave us nothing less. My girls have asked to watch the DVD over and over and over again, but we decided not to let them because we don’t want their eyes to fall out of their head {note: watching Peppa Pig repeatedly has not been proven to make children’s eyes fall out}.

If you want to hear more about this fun show {and the cool products featured in this review} head to the official Peppa Pig website – PeppaPig.com and like their page on Facebook: Peppa Pig Facebook Page!

What television show related toys have you bought for your kids??

I received products as a member of Child’s Play Communications review team. I was not paid to review these products and all opinions are mine and my family’s true opinons, would these adorable faces lie to you?!?! Even though they’re our opinions yours may vary, and you can have adorable faces too!!

We LOVE Nick Jr’s Peppa Pig

Peppa Pig

Family values and spending time with one another is so important in our family of four. We want our girls to understand that we will always set aside time, as a family, to partake in activities, silliness, and volunteering. Having a strong familial bond is so important to us, that’s why we enjoy the children’s show Peppa Pig.

Peppa PigPeppa Pig is a hilarious preschool cartoon on Nick Jr., that aired in early 2001. Before it previewed here in the states it was a longtime favorite with British kiddos, and I’m not surprised why. Not only is the family, (Peppa the, “star” {obviously}, Mommy Pig, Daddy Pig, and George) comedic, but they show what a family is all about, spending quality time together.

The show features so many different relationships; parent-to-child, sibling-to-sibling, child-to-child, and family dynamics as well. It’s fun to watch the entire family engage in each other’s activities and be supportive.

Peppa’s mom and dad help her build a castle, the entire family goes on bike rides, Peppa and her brother play hide-and-seek, and it all ends in loud snorts of laughter!

Not only do Miss A and Lil’ C really enjoy the show, but I like watching with them as well. We want to instill strong family roots and be present in our children’s lives and the best way to do that for us, is to start now, while they are young.

The only thing I didn’t really care for personally are the “fat jokes” towards Daddy Pig, (he laughs them off, but I could do without) but other than that, we really enjoy watching and learning from Peppa and her family.

What is one way that you and your family spend time together??

Make sure you check out Peppa Pig Monday through Friday at 12:00PM and 12:30PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00PM and 2:30PM on Nick Jr. Also visit their website http://peppapig.com and on Facebook.

I was not compensated for this post, however I did receive Peppa Pig products in order to better familiarize myself with the program. This in no way effects the outcome of my post, all thoughts and opinions are my own, yours may vary.

NCircle Winter Wonderland Christmas DVD Giveaway {CLOSED}

The Wiggles

We are a television watching family. The girls have random times throughout the day when we watch television or DVDs. One time they watch is when I am doing their hair. Because they have such curly hair it takes me anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes per girl and television is the best way to keep their beautiful, heads still. A few shows we like to watch are The Wiggles, for their singing and dancing of course,  The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, which is a newer show that the girls love to giggle at, WordWorld, which I love because it teaches spelling and teamwork, Chloe’s Closet, is one of Miss A’s favorites because of make-believe play and The Fairies, the latest kids’ sensation from Australia, which surprisingly Baby C adores and says “fairies” when we turn it on.

When I was offered the opportunity to watch, review, and give away this 5 DVD holiday collection of some of our favorite shows from NCircle, it was right up our alley.

The WigglesThe Wiggles, “It’s Always Christmas With You!,” includes a mix of 14 original new tunes and seasonal favorites. It’s the first holiday DVD in seven years from the beloved platinum-selling band from Down Under, and it features celebrity guests including ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone, who sings a sweet rendition of “O Holy Night.” We love it because it introduces children to the diverse ways different cultures celebrate the holidays and The Wiggles are always good, clean, fun.

“The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That: Told From the Cold” DVD has four episodes from the popular PBS Kids series. Actor-comedian Martin Short is the voice of The Cat in the Hat, and I love his characters in movies. The four episodes on this learning-and-fun-filled DVD are: Snowman’s Land, Flight of the Penguin, A Long Winter’s Nap and Reindeer Games. The girls really liked the episode on the penguin named Percy and learn how to waddle like a penguin and love to sing along to the easy songs.

My favorite DVD is “WordWorld: New Happy Holiday WordFriends”. The show is an Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids series for obvious reasons. This DVD features three holiday-themed episodes: The Christmas Star, A Christmas Present for Dog, and Duck’s Family Reunion – plus a bonus music video, Dancing Dog. I love how the characters demonstrate that it is better to give than receive. Great messages to be had in this DVD for sure.

The DVD that Miss A requests the most is: “Chloe’s Closet: Winter Wonderland”. The DVD features four episodes: On Frozen Pond, Best in Snow, Getting to Snow You, and Icing Escapades. Miss A loves that the girls turn into snow princesses and make snowflakes and also one of the episodes features Chloe ice skating, pretty nice since we don’t get much of the white stuff here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

FairiesLastly, “The Fairies: Christmas Wishes in Fairyland” is a DVD where Fairyland is transformed into a magical Christmas setting. Tiny tots will sing and dance along to their favorite Christmas carols {and some of mine too} and learn new songs as they celebrate the joys of the season with the beautiful fairies, Harmony and Rhapsody! I love that my girls can learn traditional Christmas carols through this DVD.

Overall we are pleased and love every one of these DVDs and think they are great for the Christmas/Winter-y weather season and I highly recommend them for long trips or even short moments of fun for your kiddos. They would even be great for a holiday movie viewing party since there are no scary parts, no questionable moments, and some good messages for our kiddos.

The Gruffalo – A Movie Review

The Gruffalo DVDAs soon as I heard The Gruffalo was coming out on DVD, I knew for sure I’d have to check it out. There are a few books that were my childhood favorites and I still hold dear, and this was one.

Although I couldn’t actually remember the full story I knew as soon as I started watching I would be reminded of the plot. I watched with my 4 year-old and 1.5 year-old and we are very cautious of movies because our oldest is very sensitive to material that could be perceived as “scary”.

For Miss A and Baby C the movie was appropriate. I was amazed at the quality of animation in The Gruffalo DVD. Seriously, from the little details to the perspective of the movie I was very impressed. Read More

Superior Taste Buds love h2o

When it comes to spring water I can honestly say I have my favorite,s and then there are those I just can’t stand the taste of. I’m not going to call any of them out in this post, however Daddy B thinks it’s funny that I even notice the difference in their taste, but I often tell him I have superior taste buds anyway. {Don’t laugh, I think it’s true.}

Recently, I was offered the chance to try out h20, a natural spring water from Canada, and I found that I really loved the taste of. I kid you not, it’s up there will my all-time favorite {or favourite if you’re from CA} waters, very crisp and totally refreshing, plus, it does NOT come in a plastic bottle, hooray!!

h2o Natural Spring Water

I’m not completely eco-friendly, however I do like to recycle and try to do my part. h2o’s packaging is 100% paper, from “responsibly sourced well managed forests, a renewable resource, unlike plastic bottles made from oil”.  And in my opinion the packaging is pretty too, see:

Here are some really great facts that I love about h2o and some random ones I found out on my own too:

  • h2o keeps contents safe up to 5 years compared to the 2 year shelf-life of plastic bottles
  • h2o does not roll around in the car if you drop it on the ground like other water bottles {yes this did actually happen to me}
  • h2o has “wings” {aka the flaps at the top that kids can hang on to so they don’t squeeze the drink} like our favorite paper milk and juice box containers
  • h2o, even though the bottle is not see-through, has really great packaging so those of you who are bothered by not being able to “see” what you are drinking can look down the top and see for yourself, crystal clear.

This great water is available for purchase on their website http://www.h2Ospringwater.com in singles and packs, and in single 16.9 ounce bottles at Super K-marts. Pricing is average in my opinion and for the taste of the water I’d personally pay a little more than they are asking, but that may just be my superior taste buds talking 😉

Also, h2O has also launched a special online sweepstakes. One winner is randomly chosen every 2 days to win a Rio DVD and a 6-pack of h2O natural spring water. Check out rules and enter at h2Ospringwater.com now through September 30, 2011 (at 11:59 p.m. PST).

Do you have a favorite spring water? If so, what brand is it?

I received samples from h2o and their partners in order to complete this review. The samples in no way effect my opinions on the product. The words above are my own, completely honest opinions. Thank you for taking the time to read the review and if you have any questions or comments I would love to hear them!
