It’s an Art Party Review – Charlotte

If nothing else is true it’s that the B girls {myself included} love a good arts ‘n crafts project. Even better why not invite our friends to join us for an art party. Robin from It’s an Art Party was awesome enough to reach out after hosting a party with our friends over at Best Crowe’s Nest.

It's An Art Party Logo

We know what it’s like to be new at school having switched schools two years ago and always love to host Summer play dates and get-togethers so the returning children can see each other and new students can meet their classmates before school starts to help the new school jitters. As soon as Robin approached me I knew this would be the perfect fit for an art party.

We chose a couple art activities that Robin offers, {for her full list check out her website at itsanartparty.com} and rented a park pavillion. Though we had a little windy weather, the kids had a blast and Robin was a great instructor, teaching them some new techniques most of them had never used before.

The kids had a blast watercoloring using salt and their creations turned out so pretty.

The kids were also able to make some fun bubble paint creations, the wind made this a little more challenging but the kids loved this art activity.

Overall our get-together was a big success, the kids had a great time creating fun art and running around on the playground while socializing with new and returning classmates. I am so thankful that Robin was able to come and give the class a memorable back-to-school experience.

It’s An Art Party specializes in birthday parties, but you can hire them for any of your upcoming events. We really loved Robin’s care and instruction, and best of all set-up and clean-up are a part of her services.

Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes & More Charlotte

Living in Charlotte, I have many opportunities to work with amazing people. I fully enjoy working with those who use their talents and businesses for good and Ines Aranguren at Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes & More is one of those amazing people.

Ines is a very talented baker and artist. Usually you find a cake that will taste great, but look okay or taske okay and look great. This is not the case with Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes and More. I have had the pleasure of working with Ines on a local event, tasted her delicious treats at birthday parties, and most recently was able to share one of her fun creations with my daughter’s class.

This beautiful Christmas/Happy Birthday Jesus cake, complete with fluffy snow frosting, colorful Christmas trees and of course by request, baby Jesus in a manger was made specifically for Miss A’s class party by Ines from Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes and More.

Not only was everyone impressed with how amazing this cake looked but parents and students alike were digging in for a piece {or two!} and everyone wanted Sky’s the Limits’ information. I of course was happy to recommend because I believe in great businesses, doing good things for others, and that are more than professional in their field of work and Ines and her husband are just that.

Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes and More is known for their gorgeously decorated wedding cakes, and have been nominated for several awards including the Wedding Wire Couple’s Choice Awards for 2014, and theknot.com’s 2013 Best of Weddings. While she rocks at wedding cakes, Ines excels at anything she does and does not limit her skills to any one dessert type. If you check out her Facebook page you can see beautiful fruit tarts, delectable pies, and scrumptious cookies.

The creations that Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes & More design are above and beyond what you could imagine. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Ines’ realistic looking flowers and intricate designs will blow you away.

Be sure to head to her website for more examples of her work, cake and frosting flavors and prepare to be amazed! skysthelimitcake.com

Miss A’s class received this cool cake from Sky’s the Limit! Custom Cakes and More and while I am not obligated to write a blog post for them {at their request}, I can’t help but share with you about brands and businesses my family {and many others} truly enjoy.

Party Planning Tips for The Little Gym

Little Gym of Huntersville & Lake Norman

CupcakeLil’ C’s birthday party planning has begun, and I’m thinking that some of you have probably started trying to figure out what your children’s birthday parties will look like this year. Will you have an intimate party at home? Do you like hosting the party at a fun kid’s spot and avoiding clean-up? Maybe you do both, {if so then wowzers!!}

In the B family, we’ve done a little bit of both, although often, a small party winds up being larger than expected. Much to my husband’s surprise though I’ve been able to get our guest lists down to around 8 children or so, which is good for me.

One of the most memorable birthday parties that we hosted was Miss A’s fourth birthday that we held at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman. {Did you know that you don’t have to be a member or enrolled in classes at The Little Gym to host your party there???} Here are some posts from that party {so you can see why it was a blast.}

Miss A’s Birthday Bash

Little Gym Birthday Party

Instead of telling you the amazing reasons to book a party for your child at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman, I figured I would give you tips for party planning at this very cool location.

Communicate – While most of the work is left to the amazing staff at The Little Gym, there are a few choices you will need to make when it comes to activities, cake, number of guests, and of course date selection. The more you communicate with TLG staff, the less stressful the party will be.

Party Food – This is one of the few aspects of the birthday party package that The Little Gym leaves in the hands of parents. Whether you want to order pizza or make your own, they are very flexible about what choice of food you’d like to offer your guests. It may be a good idea, {depending on what time your party is} to get a few small snacks for parents to munch on while the children enjoy the activities and then give children the main dish before cake.

To Theme or Not to Theme – With The Little Gym services, there’s no need to plan an elaborate theme for your party, after all, the main theme will be gymnastics and play. However, if you’re anything like me, you love a good party theme. For Miss A’s fourth birthday party we chose a rainbow theme, AND it went perfect with The Little Gym’s bright colors, THAT was a coincidence.

Room for Presents – Most parents who host a party at The Little Gym choose for their child to open presents in their own home. This allows more party time for everyone. When thinking about your child’s presents, as well as seating for everyone who’ll be traveling with you, that way you’re not struggling to make it all fit.

Plan Ahead – Just like any other venue, The Little Gym Birthday Party dates fill up quickly. If possible, try to plan your date 1 to 2 months prior depending on the time of year. If you’ve already told family and friends to save the date, call The Little Gym as soon as you have a date, better safe than sorry.

Are you ready to book your child’s birthday party at The Little Gym? At your convenience you can book your party online, email, or call The Little Gym to pick out your date, find out more about the services they provide, and get your party planning started.

Disney’s Sofia the First Party Tips

Sofia the First Party Cupcakes

Sofia the First

Wow!! If you didn’t get a chance to catch Disney’s premier episode of Sofia the First you missed out, but never fear, the movie will be showing again TODAY on  WATCH Disney Junior, Disney Junior On Demand and DisneyJunior.com and on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 22 (9:00-10:00 a.m., ET/PT).

We were able to invite some of our princess-y friends over tonight for a royal party. Here are a few small things that made our Sofia the First princess party a success. {Mind you this was a small party because it was a school night so we didn’t go “all-out” with decorations.}

Dress Up!! We asked each of the attendees to dress up in their favorite princess wear, whether it was a Disney princess costume or a fancy dress with costume jewelry. You can also provide a dress up trunk for the kids to choose outfits and accessories from too.

Look at these adorable princesses posing in front of the Sofia the First poster with their cute crowns and beautiful gowns:

Sofia the First Party Collage

Serve Royally Yummy Snacks. We had magic wands {fruit kabobs}, towns people, {gingerbread men cookies}, Princess Sofia the First cupcakes topped off with an adorable Princess Sofia cupcake topper, and of course no movie premier would be complete without magical popping corn, popped by the fairy godmothers, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather themselves!!

Sofia Snacks

Sofia the First Party Cupcakes

Make time for Enchanted Games and activities too. Whether you teach your little princesses and princes the right way to curtsey or bow or how to dance the waltz, there are a number of games and activities that are going to please every attendee. House Party sent me this wonderful book:

Sofia the First Book

Which was a fun read and also introduced the children to Sofia and the characters in the movie. My only wish was that it didn’t tell the same story as the movie so there were more surprises as we watched, but the illustrations were adorable and the children loved the suspense and the happy ending, and I even heard a lot of, “awwwww”s from the moms, er, queens who were in attendance too.

Reading Sofia the First Book

Overall, we had an amazing fun-filled time with friends, enjoyed the entire 1-hour movie with a few appearances from our favorite classic Disney Princess movies, and even learned some lessons about giving people second chances, and working together.

If you have the chance to throw a Sofia the First party, whether it’s for a special occasion, {or not} it’s bound to be a good one.

Signed, The Royal Queen MommyB and her two beautiful princesses!!

Did you watch Sofia the First? Do you have any party tips to add??

If you liked this post make sure to share on Facebook, Twitter and feel free to pin too!!

I did not receive compensation for this post or for hosting the party. My guests and I did get some very cool Sofia the First goodies but as usual all opinions or thoughts expressed in this post are my own, honest opinions of Sofia the First the movie and book.

Disney’s Sofia the First Premier

Cinderella Princess Sofia the First

This coming Sunday, November 18 (7:00-8:00 p.m., ET/PT) Disney will introduce its first little girl princess with the debut of “Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess,” on the Disney Channel and again on Thursday, November 22 (9:00-10:00 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Junior. If you happen to miss it, the movie will also be available the following day on WATCH Disney Junior, Disney Junior On Demand and DisneyJunior.com.

Cinderella Princess Sofia the First

Set in the storybook world of Enchancia, the movie introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king and she becomes a princess, Sofia the First. Sofia must learn to navigate the extraordinary life of royalty while holding on to her own hopes and dreams. Her journey to being the best she can be also paves the way for those around her to realize how special they each are. Disney’s Cinderella makes an appearance in the movie to offer Sofia some words of wisdom – princess to princess.

Sofia’s royal adventure begins as she prepares to move into the castle with her mom, starting a new family with her step-father, King Roland II, and step-siblings, Amber and James. Helping Sofia in her journey are the three headmistresses of Royal Prep Academy – Fauna, Flora and Merryweather (the beloved fairies seen in Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty”) and royal steward, Baileywick, as well as a group of cute woodland creatures led by a wise-talking rabbit, Clover. Sofia soon discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that difficult, but displaying honesty, loyalty, courage, independence, compassion and grace is what makes one truly royal.

Created for kids age 2-7 and their families, the stories of “Sofia the First” communicate positive messages and life lessons that are applicable to young children. While she lives in a captivating world of castles, wizards and flying horses, Sofia remains a relatable peer-to-peer princess who is experiencing many of the same social situations as young viewers at home including learning how to fit in, making new friends and mastering new skills.

Check out a fun Sofia the First music video here: Princess Sofia the First Music Video and browse the rest of the videos for more on this adorable Princess.

A “Sofia the First” television series will premiere in early 2013. The movie and series will roll out internationally through mid-2013 on both Disney Channels and Disney Junior channels.

Sofia the First

Since watching the preview trailers on Disney Junior Miss A and Lil’ C have been so excited, even as much so as to play the characters of Princess Sofia and her mother when they are dressing up.

We can’t wait for Sunday night because we’ll be hosting an amazing Princess Sofia Premier Party with our friends!

While we know you can’t be here in our home, we hope that you’ll be celebrating on Sunday too!!

And for birthday party ideas make sure you check out the post after our party filled with all sorts of Princess Sofia the First ideas and images!

Birthday Bash: Sweet Tweets – Rainbow Bright

When Miss A decided that she wanted a rainbow party I was thrilled. I think color themed birthday parties may be one of the easiest themes to plan around. Traditionally, rainbows are: “ROYGBIV”, {red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet}, but more often than not we combine the indigo and violet to make purple or: “ROYGBP”, which doesn’t quite sound as fun, but works in the whole scheme of things.

While searching for all things rainbow I found a great selection of colored items at one of my local party stores, candy, buckets {which I didn’t end up using}, and even a rainbow number “4” piñata. I have however noticed that not all rainbows are made equal. I’m not sure why it happens but I see a lot of rainbows with red, orange, yellow, green, and blue, but somewhere along the lines purple is always left out. I wonder to myself, “Is purple dye more expensive to make than the others?” Or maybe the manufacturers would rather have an odd number so yellow can be the middle color. Who knows.

Nonetheless, throughout my search I’ve seen a mixture of some of the rainbow colors represented in this colorful arc. That’s why I was not surprised in the least when we received our rainbow cookies from our great friends at Sweet Tweets. Red, orange, and yellow with accents of blue, green, and white arrived we were more than delighted.

Sweet Tweets Rainbow Cookies

You can clearly tell that this is a rainbow and I love the added accents on the fluffy clouds. They made the perfect treat for the party! My favorite part however was that the cookies were sweet and just the right texture, not too soft, not too crunchy. YUM!

They also made great accents and take-home gifts for the party.

If you haven’t contacted Sweet Tweets for your next party you should check out her latest creations and order yours before she books up for your birthday month. Check out their site here: http://sweettweetsonline.com

I received products from Sweet Tweets in order to complete my review. The opinions expressed in this post are my honest opinions regardless. Your opinions may vary.

Birthday Bash: Favors Galore

It’s always a challenge to figure out what to put in the favor bags for my children’s birthday parties. From bunny bags to handmade felt maps from our Dora and Diego themed party I try to make each take home bag special. It’s the last impression from the party and hopefully something that both kids and parents alike will enjoy. Here are a few favor bags from my girls parties:

Favor Bags

I love making special items to go into the bags myself, but I know not everyone wants to or has time to put the effort into that themselves. There are a few different avenues you can use if you want a great favor bag without all of the work.

  • Find someone who loves creating favor bags. Maybe it’s a mom friend who lives for parties or an event planning service who employs or can give references for businesses who specialize in party favor bags.
  • Select one-of-a kind items and personalized that will wow your guests and be useful to them too. Read More

Birthday Bash – Barbara Payne Photography

It’s a well known fact that pictures capture memories and with Birthday Parties there are many many memories to be captured.

Often times there is the question of, “How should I capture those memories?” You can always take photos yourself, however there may be times when you want photos of yourself with your child or just want to focus on your child instead of all of the components of the party. That may be when you turn to friends to take photos. Now some friends can be great at taking the shots you want to see AND making sure they are good pictures, however you may find that you want your friends to enjoy the party and not worry about taking pictures or that you want a higher quality photo, that’s when I turn to professional photography.

Barbara Payne Photography Logo CharlotteNot every professional photographer is equipped to take good pictures of children, especially if they are involved in busy birthday activities. Barbara Payne from Barbara Payne Photography not only knows children and how to photograph them, but she’s a mom herself, so she understands how to get great shots from even the shyest child.

My favorite things about Barbara Payne Photography are:

  • She is patient with kiddos {and all her subjects}, making sure she gets the best shots possible
  • She has the talent and skill to take amazing pictures, which in the sea of photography is a big deal because she’ll be the photographer giving you clear, crisp pictures of your cuties with no editing tricks.
  • She has the most up-to-date, high-quality equipment and you will benefit by being able to have shots that some cameras or lighting just won’t be able to produce.
  • She offers in-studio and on-location shoots, perfect for a birthday party shoot and an in-studio birthday shoot.

Although Barbara Payne Photography can tout such great professionalism and works well with any age really her photos speak for themselves. Here are some great shots from Miss A’s 4th Birthday Bash:

Birthday Bash – Got What it Cakes

Got What it Cakes Charlotte LogoBirthday cakes come in all shapes and sizes and have been a tradition since the beginning of time when man made the first Birthday cake from leaves and twigs. {Alright maybe that isn’t quite factual, but you could imagine something like that right?!?}

Birthday cake tends to be the “finishing touch” on a party, something that all the guests tend to look forward to and in our case the rainbow themed “4” cake by Got What it Cakes was no different. Owner Mandie Miller takes great care to produce an amazing product that looks great, and receives rave reviews in the taste department as well. It’s no wonder that Mandie and her cakes received a Best of the Best Award by Charlotte Magazine.

Mandie is an amazing baker who comes up with mouth-watering flavors like strawberry fluff, and peanutbutter cream, and is also, “mom” to two little girls as well! She’s amazing at what she does and I would highly recommend Got What it Cakes not only from my personal opinion, but also the many rave reviews I received when our party guests saw and tasted her cake.

Here are some pictures {compliments of Barbara Payne Photography} of the amazing rainbow cake she made for Little Miss A’s 4th birthday:
