A New Way to Get Your Kids to Drink their Milk

This is a sponsored post on behalf MilkSplash.

Ever feel like this???

Hilarious right? Unless it’s completely true. Miss A is an avid milk drinker, but Lil’ C on the other hand not so much, but regardless we like to make our meals fun and often eat purple pancakes, turn our veggies into landscapes, and add flavor and color to our milk with MilkSplash.

MilkSplash+Logo-02-medium

MilkSplash is an innovative new milk flavoring that is perfect for busy parents who want their kids to drink more milk. MilkSplash has zero calories and it allows kids to enjoy milk on their own terms. MilkSplash is also working on an all natural version!

MilkSplash comes in a variety of great-tasting flavors, colors and collectible characters such as Cocoa Loco, Sir Strawberry Swirl™, Orange Cream Dream, Cookies ‘N Cream and Jammin’ Banana – with many more to come.

MilkSplash_lineup_5

 We were able to sample Cocoa Loco and Sir Strawberry Swirl™. The products were easy to use {although being the Type-A mom that I am I’d recommend parents helping smaller kids squeeze MilkSplash into the milk for little ones}, and Miss A loved the taste of both flavors. I personally like that there are zero calories, and as with anything would love to try the all natural version once that comes out too.

MilkSplash New Product MommyB Review

New Coffee Brewing Technology – Remington iCoffee Review

I don’t know whether you’re a tea drinker or a coffee drinker, or neither, but I’m definitely a coffee drinker. It wasn’t until December of 2012 that I really would consider myself a full-fledged “coffee drinker”.

Typically I brew my cups of joe with a single-cup coffee maker and choose exotic flavors since I like my coffee sweet. I love both big name coffee retailers Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, but being from the North I miss Tim Horton’s and would die for the day that Tim Horton’s and Wegmans moved to North Carolina… {just in case anyone is listening}.

Recently, I had the opportunity to test out iCoffee, a coffee maker that uses “SteamBrew™ technology to create “impossibly smooth” tasting coffee”. Please keep in mind I am a “coffee drinker”, but not a, “coffee connoisseur”.

Remington iCoffee Review by MommyBKnowsBest

Things I like about iCoffee:

[crosslist]

  • Little to no assembly. I took the packaging off the product, added the filter to the coffee carafe, and plugged in. {After that you can set the clock, and brew or schedule a future pot of coffee.}
  • Technologically cool product. My girls loved the sounds of the brewing system and the fact that you could see the ground coffee brewing inside the machine.
  • Optional filter to remove any fine coffee grounds. You don’t have to buy filters for the iCoffee so that’s a little less waste than the single-cup coffee makers and traditional coffee makers as well.

[/crosslist]

Things I didn’t like about iCoffee:

[badlist]

  • Harder to brew a single cup of coffee. Just like a traditional coffee brewer, yes you can brew just one cup of coffee, but it’s not as convenient as making a whole pot, especially with the filter system.
  • Clean-up is a pain. I’m grateful for the reduced waste that iCoffee offers, but at the same time clean-up is definitely more work with the iCoffee filter system.

[/badlist]

Overall thoughts:

  • We try not to have too many large appliances on our countertops, but I must say that the iCoffee is about the same size as my single-cup coffee maker although it seems larger because of the shape of the brewer.
  • The iCoffee is said to brew the coffee in a unique way using SteamBrew™ technology to extract a smooth coffee taste and remove the bitter, acidic flavor, honestly I brewed a few cups, because I couldn’t figure out the water to coffee ratio (suggestions from the company would have come in handy), and didn’t notice a substantial difference in traditionally or single-cup machine brewed coffees. {Again with my single-cup I opt for flavored coffees and did not use a flavored coffee for this review.}
  • Price point for iCoffee is similar or a little less than some single-cup brewers on the market, and if you’re looking for something different iCoffee definitely is that.

I would say unless you are a coffee connoisseur or are gifting this to someone who is, it may not be worth the money to purchase the iCoffee since you may not notice the difference or taste the crema smoothness that iCoffee is said to deliver.

Have you ever tried a steam brew type coffee brewer? Do you think you would like the iCoffee?

I received an iCoffee to review for the purposes of this blog post. All opinions expressed in this review are my own, honest thoughts on the product. Your opinions may vary.

Sweeten Up Your Valentine’s Day with a Delicious Date-Night Strawberry Smoothie

Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is about sweethearts and all things sweet. Whether your sweeties are your children, a spouse, or a significant other ’tis the season to treat them to some love-filled goodies.

I love SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener in one of the other loves of my life, coffee. Did you know though that although SPLENDA® is awesome as a beverage sweetener you can also use it for all sorts of things.

SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated can be used almost anywhere sugar is used, including cooking and baking. It measures cup-for-cup like sugar, but contains 678 calories less than sugar on a cup-for-cup basis. One teaspoon of SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated contains the sweetness equivalency of one teaspoon of sugar with no calories or carbohydrates.

Here are a couple of sweet ideas for you to use this Valentine’s Day to treat your loved ones:

Replace another sweetener with SPLENDA®. While you’re making your heart-shaped cookies and rich chocolate fudge swap out your normal sweetener for SPLENDA®.

Create an awesome Date-Night Smoothie or daiquiri to share with your sweetie using this recipe:

Strawberry Splenda Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

3 cups frozen strawberries
2/3 cup SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated
1 1/4 cups your favorite orange juice
1 cup plain non-fat yogurt {I love greek yogurt if you want a thicker smoothie}
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup ice cubes

Blend all ingredients until you reach desired consistency.

Or if you’re snowed in this winter. Check out my recipe for Snow Cream and as a healthier version consider using skim milk, almond milk, coconut milk or soy milk and SPLENDA® to sweeten up the taste. This is a great, sweet treat to enjoy and snuggle up with your Valentine.

Atlantic City Food – From the Boardwalk to the Casinos

This post is a product of my #jerseylove trip to Atlantic City. I would not have been able to write this post without the great hospitality of Caesar’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Atlantic City, James’ Candy, and Steel Pier Atlantic City.

While the awesome bloggers from Social Media Moms and New Jersey Digital Moms were enjoying the #jerseylove social media for good trip, we were also able to partake in some of the yummier things that Atlantic City has to offer.

If you’re looking to start off your day with a little brunch, might I suggest a delicious hand-made crepe? The crepe station and omelet stations at Caesar’s Brunch at Nero’s were pretty popular. They also offered a wide variety of seafood, breakfast foods, desserts, pretty much a “you name it, we have it” brunch buffet. Everything I ate was delicious and fresh.

Caesars Brunch at Neros Crepe MommyB

While we were in town we got a, “Taste of AC” at the beautiful Harrah’s Resort and were able to try out some delicious dishes, view some amazing chocolate sculptures, and even try out some new drinks, like this “woo-hoo”:

Woo Hoo Taste of AC Drink MommyBKnowsBest

Here are some photos from our #jerseylove sneak peek, Taste of AC:

Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival Taste of AC Collage

If you like food and are interested in meeting the chefs behind the food, including renowned culinary experts and TV personalities like Rocco DiSpirito, The Neelys, and Robert Irvine. The 2013 Food and Wine Festival will be held July 25th through July 28th and tickets are being sold right now. Head over to www.caesars.com/acfoodandwine for more details and to purchase your tickets.

Let’s get a breath of fresh air and explore the boardwalk. When you step out onto those wooden planks a variety of food smells are wafting in the air. From the standard soft pretzels, funnel cake, ice cream, big-as-your-head pizza, cotton candy, french fries, cheesesteaks, and even the extreme new tastes and flavors like fried {insert name of anything you can deep fry here}, red velvet funnel cake, to anything your heart desires, the boardwalk in Atlantic City has it all.

A few of my samplings include a soft pretzel, but I honestly have no clue where it came from other than some lovely #jerseylove girls sharing it with me, and Steel Pier AC also treated us, literally to some of their sweet treats. I strongly encourage that you at least try one bit of these not-so-diet-friendly must-have boardwalk treats, all in moderation right?!?

Atlantic City Boardwalk Treats MommyB

And of course some delicious Fralingers Salt Water Taffy from James’ Candy shop.

Fralingers Salt Water Taffy Atlantic City MommyB

Let’s face it, after eating yummy, but food that’s not a full meal, you probably want to dig into a great meal right?? Atlantic City has that too. On our trip we were able to dine at some amazing restaurants.

As soon as you walk into Caesar’s Atlantic City you spot Mia restaurant. Not only is it the most visible in the hotel, but it is beautifully decorated, {I swear the white columns lead straight up to heaven}. The food was also very delicious, I loved the antipasto platter, and had to sit on my hands to stop myself from spoiling the rest of my dinner. I also found the creme brûlée to be THE best I have ever eaten, no joke, and it’s not even my favorite dessert, but was truly divine.

Mia Restaurant Atlantic City Collage MommyB

Another delectable fine dining restaurant we were able to visit was the Atlantic Grill, also located right inside Caesar’s Atlantic City resort. Only go to this restaurant if you want to taste some of the best food you’ll ever eat in your life, also note you pay for what you get, meaning, yes this restaurant is a little on the pricier side of things, but if you’re going to have one extravagant meal while you are in Atlantic City, or if you win in the casinos, definitely head here.

I was lucky enough to dine with Megan from Sweet Sadie Marie and Sherry from SuperExhausted. Each of us had “the best ever” of at least one of our dishes of food that we were served at Atlantic Grill. I had a “double yum moment” when I chose my burrata mozzarella that came with grilled garlic ciabatta, roasted tomatoes, aged balsamic, basil. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary mozzarella, it’s deliciously creamy on the inside because it’s made with not one, but two kinds of mozzarella. I truly could have eaten this just as my meal, but am glad I didn’t stop there. I also had the best filet mignon I have ever eaten, and I have been blessed to have been able to dine in a few other amazing high-end steak houses in the country, but this was the absolute best.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert, but with the amazing appetizers and entrees we were able to partake of, it really didn’t matter. One last note, Atlantic Grill was probably the least likely place I would have eaten, being that it is primarily known for it’s seafood selections and I have a shellfish allergy and don’t really like seafood in general, but I am glad that we ended up there.

Speaking of my allergy, Atlantic Grill was extremely caring and very cautious when it came to my allergy even being that they were a seafood restaurant. The maitre d’ expressly said that they take allergies very seriously and when I noticed the “Allergy” sticker on my plates I felt valued and appreciative that they took the extra care to make sure I could dine with them.

Here are some pictures of my delicious meal from Atlantic Grill, please do not lick your computer screen, I repeat, do not lick your computer screen.

If you’re not up to socializing or want to enjoy a great meal in your room, the room service at Caesars Atlantic City is not only delicious and convenient, but their staff members are delightful as well. {And yes I did have another steak, guess I was low on iron this trip}.

Desserts go last right??

If you stay at Caesars resort in Atlantic City, {which I HIGHLY recommend that you do, but that’s another post}, you will pass by Caffe Tazza, which is located right next door to Mia restaurant. My mouth was watering each time I passed by the glistening display cases. Unfortunately, I was too busy to order one of their delicious-looking pastries, and I only got a sample of one of their fresh made gelato flavors, but next time I visit, this is on my list. Wouldn’t it be on yours too??

All-in-all my taste buds were very happy with my trip to Atlantic City. If you need any recommendations feel free to leave a comment here and I’d love to tell you more in-depth about the delicious foods I was able to try out on my #jerseylove trip.

Thanks again to Caesar’s Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort, Steel Pier AC, and James’ Candy for providing these meals. My opinions of the services and food in this post are my own, honest opinions. I am not being compensated for my thoughts, and what you are reading is straight from me, 100%. 5 Ways I Unwind After the Kids are in Bed

Being a work-at-home mom is no joke, I won’t list what I do daily between work and being a momma and running the house, because I know your job(s) are probably just as packed and filled with awesomeness and craziness at the same time.

The cocktail of emails, chauffeuring, tweeting, preparing meals, and sweeping up crumbs, leaves me, most nights, drained. After the girls are in bed, and after their obligatory attempts to get food/drink/more hugs and they’re really really  asleep, I get to take a big breath in and let it out.

Being a blogger I do my writing mostly at night, but often times before I begin work for the night I give myself a little down-time. For me, it’s important to have even 30 minutes to unwind after my kids are in bed. I don’t know about you, but I usually find myself doing mindless, calming activities to release the day’s stresses.

Here are 5 Ways that I Unwind after the Kids are in Bed:

Have a “hard drink”. No, I’m not talking about liquor, or even wine, I’m actually talking about my favorite pop or if you will, soda. My soda is like my beer at the end of the night. I know it may sound weird drinking caffeine so late at night, but it also helps give me a little kick that I need to get the rest of my work done too.

Tablet Games MommyB

Become a video game junkie.  At least for 10 or so minutes. I love playing time-management games. Again, I know it probably sounds weird considering most of my day is time management, but unlike real life….I can conquer these games, and complete levels…at home, not so much completion, just repetition. Wash, dry, fold, put away, wash, dry…..

Shocker, Television.  No shocker here, I use tv shows to help me decompress. Typically these days I stick to dance or cooking competitions, or some revamping show where hosts take a business and give it a new plan. For me, they are mindless shows where I don’t have to think about the character plot, and can just sit and veg out and my brain cool off.

Surfing the Inter Webs.  While it may seem logical to not be on the computer when I’m not working, I really enjoy checking out a few websites that show off baked delights, crazy cakes, new biracial hairstyles for the girls, and new kids movie trailers. It’s nice to be online and not have a specific purpose other than laughing, or finding something really cool to show the kids the next day.

Quaker Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies MommyB

Treat Myself to a treat.  If I were a treat, I would want to be the treatiest treat in all the land, or just something that is the perfect snack. I love the fact that Quaker Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies are made with Quaker® oats AND there are four cookies in each convenient, handy pack, so I can stop at just one…I said “I can”, meaning if I wanted to.

Quaker® Chocolate Chip Cookies allow me to be indulgent while still providing the power of Quaker® oats to fuel me for whatever the rest of the day might hold.

Easy Holiday Cookies Recipes for Kids {Giveaway}

Smart Balance Kids Cookies MBKB

Cookies Kids MommyBKnowsBest

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays with my kiddos is to bake cookies. I get to spend time with my girls, teaching them how to cook, giggling, and getting to smell and eat yummy treats we made with our own hands.

As I’ve found out from previous years, some holiday cookie recipes have multiple steps and are definitely not conducive to making with kids. For me, when I’m baking with the girls, I’d rather focus on having fun and enjoying the experience than making award winning cookies {I’ll save those recipes for my annual cookie exchanges.}

Here are some awesome, kid-friendly holiday cookie recipes that I encourage you to make with your children:

Starbucks Refreshers – A Great Morning Pick-Me-Up

Starbucks Refreshers Collage

Have you heard of the new Starbucks Refreshers drinks? They’re a sort of sparkling juice energy drink made from the latest caffeine craze, green coffee. Each drink contains vitamins, antioxidants and is less than 100 calories per can, a mom’s best friend??

I tried all three Sparkling Beverages {they also offer handcrafted versions at your local Starbucks, and a take-and-make powder version as well}. This version comes in three flavors, Strawberry Lemonade, Raspberry Pomegranate, and Orange Melon.

My take: I must admit, I am not an orange flavor lover, whether it’s in chocolate, desserts or drinks, it actually wasn’t half bad, however my favorite of the three was the Strawberry Lemonade. I love a lemonade that’s not too sweet and not too sour and this definitely hit the spot. I could also feel the energy boost I got from drinking just a little bit of the Refresher, on ice of course.

Starbucks Refreshers Collage

In case you’re wondering, no it doesn’t taste like coffee, for those of you who aren’t a fan of coffee but still want to get your caffeine fix.

Each beverage is a sparkling, delicious boost of natural energy from Green Coffee Extract you can enjoy anytime. With real fruit juice, B vitamins, ginseng, antioxidants from vitamin C and only 60 calories per can, it’s a pick-me-up you can feel good about.

So, which Starbucks Refresher do you think you would like the most? Strawberry Lemonade, Raspberry Pomegranate, or Orange Melon?

Refueling with MommyB

MommyB Refueling

For me some days go by so fast it’s just a blur, with two beautiful little girls to care for, a home to keep clean and orderly, a husband to love and nurture, several websites to maintain, and everything else that comes with being a work-at-home-mom. That’s not how I want to live my life though, just rushing through the day to get to the next.

That’s why it’s super important for me to have moments throughout my day where I refuel. Some days it’s taking a few minutes, while the girls are working on an art project to hop on Pinterest or play a game on my phone, or sometimes it’s catching up with on my DVR during Lil’ C’s naptime, and on the weekends, if I’m lucky enough, I refuel by getting a few extra zzz’s while hubby watches the girls. Really anything that is down-time for me is refueling because I’m usually set to high-speed when it comes to everything else, it’s nice to just take a minute to relax, recoup, and refuel.

MommyB Refueling

Another great way to refuel is with Starbucks Refreshers. Each beverage is a sparkling, delicious boost of natural energy from Green Coffee Extract you can enjoy anytime. With real fruit juice, B vitamins, ginseng, antioxidants from vitamin C and only 60 calories per can, it’s a pick-me-up you can feel good about.

I’d love to hear about how you refuel. Leave me a comment below!!

Summer Hydration Tips

Hydrating Tips Summer is almost here and our schedule at the B house is already filling up! With that being said, of course it’s easy to put my own health on the back burner which means remembering to get my water. Let alone the fact that I feel like I’m literally having to chase my kids down to get them to drink anything. Can you relate???

But just because we’re busy, it doesn’t mean that we don’t need to be mindful of staying hydrated, especially since the weather is only getting hotter. Here are some tips that I use to keep myself and my family hydrated in the summer. I thought I’d share my ideas, hopefully they’re helpful to you and I’d love to hear yours too!!!

1. If you take it, they will drink it.
– Fill up several reusable water bottles or sippy cups at night so you can grab them on your way to the park, the pool, or a play date. That way there’s no excuses that you don’t have anything to drink and it removes one extra step from your morning routine helping you get out the door even faster {great for those mornings we’re running late.}

2. It’s all in the numbers.
– In our house, we use numbers for almost everything, 2 more bites before dessert, you need to pick up 5 toys before we go outside, etc. So why not implement that into our hydration tips? Tell your children they need to take 3 small sips before they continue to play or more depending on the temperature and how hard they are playing.

3. Game time!
– Using clear cups or sippy cups and colored tape {that’s easy to remove}, tape off the cup into 3rds or 4ths and challenge your child to drink past the line every 30 minutes or so throughout the day. {Children should be drinking around 5-8 cups of water daily.}

4. Make it tasty.
– There are so many ways to stay hydrated AND get a flavor boost too. I love when spas add berries or cucumbers to water, and it’s simple to do at home. I also love turning juices and Lipton’s new Lipton Tea and Honey into freezer pops. It’s a great way to stay hydrated, cool you and the kiddos down, and let’s admit it, frozen treats are pretty fun in the summertime, plus the kids love helping make them too!!

One thing I love about Lipton Tea and Honey, aside from the fact that they make delicious popsicles is that they are sweetened with real honey, made from real tea leaves and infused with real fruit flavors….REAL. Isn’t that refreshing?!?! And for those of you who are watching calories this summer too this tea is only 5 calories per 8 oz serving.

I encourage you to try some of the tips listed above and also note that Lipton is giving away limited samples of their new Lipton Tea & Honey flavors. To receive free samples you can visit www.liptonteaandhoney.com

Tell me how you add flavor to your life and the first three people to comment on my blog will win a sample of Lipton Tea & Honey to try for themselves!
