Swords Video Game for the Wii

Swords Video Game for the WiiAs a a long-time fan of the fighting genre of video games, I figured that Swords would be right up my alley. However, I wasn’t prepared for the intense battles that this game had to offer. Swords is an engaging and potentially calorie-burning video game that plays more like a work-out than I expected.

The game begins with a training mode led by your master, who sounds a lot like Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. You’re taught how to swing your Wii Remote (enhanced with the Motion Plus add-on) like a sword. Before you know it your slicing targets in half and sparring with your master. You can swing your sword in every direction imaginable, block, and also counter strike. Swords was very responsive thanks to my movements thanks to the add-on to the Wii remote controller. It’s about $20 at Amazon. But, if you’re like many who bought Wii Resort last year, then you already own it.

After passing the training sessions that helped me get accustomed to gameplay, I was ready for my first real battle. I Swords Video Game for the Wiifaced the Viking, Rognir, and right away, I realized that I was in for quite a battle. All that swinging, blocking, and evading is quite a work out. Things get really tense like with any fighting game when you and your opponent are a strike away from defeat. Swords is even more intense because you’ve got to get that win physically rather than just timing your thumbs. You’ve got to position yourself and swing your arm like a samurai to win. Victories meant so much more and defeats seemed so much more painful after exerting so much energy.

MommyB had a good laugh watching me slash my way to victory. I have a theory that the goofier you look playing a Wii game, the better the game probably is. So, Swords was even entertaining from a spectators view.

After a sore shoulder, I put Swords down for the night. I’d just experienced the most intense fighting video game experience ever. Overall, the graphics are just okay. And the sound may be slightly above average, but the real draw to Swords is the interactive game play. I highly recommend it to action, fighting, and even sports game fans.
