Not So Much – Things I Don’t Like and Their Replacements

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I have a nagging cough and went to the doctor to find out that I had a severe ear infection and was on the verge of a double ear infection, blerg. With the help of some medicine and much needed rest I am feeling better, but that also meant less time to work.

Today I’m starting a new kind of post, a lot of people ask me why I don’t write more about things I don’t like. There are actually a lot of products, and things in general that I’m not a huge fan of, but usually I don’t take the time to write them because I enjoy writing about the things I DO like more and would rather give them the spotlight on my website. But since you asked, straight up, here are a few things that I have to say, “Not So Much” to, but also what I do like {I can’t help myself}:

Not So Much MommyB

Reverie pillow – This pillow is said to be one of the more comfortable pillows and while it’s great that it’s hypoallergenic and has some neat features, the most important feature, comfort, was lacking. Both DaddyB and I found the pillow to be much too firm for us even after weeks of use. If you like a REALLY firm pillow though this will be right up your alley. What I DO like however is sleep, luckily I’ve been able to get a little more of that than I’m used to with this cold.

Paperwork – For those of you who may not know, we are moving (staying in the greater Charlotte and surrounding area), but we are excited to look for a new house, however this means lots of paperwork for loan approval and also it’s tax season so making sure we have receipts, logging into accounts, and getting all of our ducks in a row has certainly been tedious. Lucky for me DaddyB has been in charge of the paperwork and staying up late to get things taken care of. So the great side to all this paperwork is that God has an awesome new neighborhood and home in store for us and I have much appreciation for my husband through this experience.

Discovery Place’s 101 Inventions Exhibit –  While we did have fun in the hands-on section (although I would have loved more of this) of this new exhibit at Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC, we felt that our girls (almost ages 4 and 7) were a little too young for the content (birth control, sperm) and there were parts of the exhibit that scared Lil’ C (darkness and music). DaddyB did enjoy the exhibit, but feels like he didn’t get as much info in the time we had as he wanted. I know a few people who took children and did NOT enjoy their experience, one mom even asked for her money back. Because this exhibit is not included in museum admission I would personally say skip this one. I do however like Discovery Place museums. When we left the 101 Inventions exhibit my girls had a BLAST, like usual, in the rest of the museum testing out science and math skills, playing tug-of-war with DaddyB, and I must say in defense of Discovery Place, we’ve been to a couple other exhibits in the past that we have loved.

Toxic things – For this I’m lumping in things and people. I’m super guilty of putting things in my body that aren’t healthy {maybe you can relate}, and lately have been studying more homeopathic styles of living and also Ph Balance with the help of some friends. Often times I know and can feel the acidity or “hot” nature of my body after I ingest something and can see that there are easy fixes, I’m excited to post some things here that may help you out too. As for toxic people, a while ago I mentioned this being my year of intentional living and making changes for the better, I can say that I’ve been more mindful in my relationships and growing the ones I see that are healthy, supportive, and uplifting for me and leaving behind some that were toxic and still present themselves to be toxic. Choosing what’s best for myself and my family to grow closer to God and become more like Christ means leaving things that can’t be changed behind.

Cancer – Unfortunately it feels like this season of life that I’m going through right now is riddled with illness. Recently, Heaven gained an angel in Super Carter, whose family is amazing and was very close in age to Lil’ C. And since I’ve learned of friends that I went to school, both high school and college with that have family members who, too, are dealing with cancer. While I know it’s not always an immediate comfort, my family and these families have chosen to turn to God to give them strength to get through each day. I am constantly encouraged by attitude and faith that these people have.

While I know this was a VERY interesting mix of things I am not loving right now it’s all from my heart, the good and bad.

What are some things that you’re not a fan of right now? What are you replacing that bad thing with or what good can come out of it?

I received a samples and admission to some of the above mentioned products and events. This in no way affects the opinions expressed in this post. All thoughts expressed are my own, yours may vary.

  • I find I don’t often write about what I don’t like, either. Though when it comes to reviews, it can be just as helpful to know the bad as the good.

I’m not enjoying cold rainy days. Or dramatic moms at birthday parties.

  • It’s funny that you mentioned the Reverie pillow today because I just got a pitch for that this morning. I wasn’t interested, but now I’m REALLY not.

I also don’t like seafood or mayonnaise. Never have, never will. 🙂

  • Down with cancer and toxic things. They’ve been touched my life too many times. They have to go! Prayers going up for little Super Carter’s family.

  • I wish people would write more about what they don’t like.. not in a negative sense but it is important that we share our experiences.. bad or good… Whenever I read reviews.. it is always happy go lucky and i am thinking certainly there was something you did not like about it.

  • I am replacing negative words with positive words – We so often dwell on the bad things, that we don’t talk about how we are blessed. So I am focusing on that and it makes a huge difference!

  • Right now I’m not a fan of snow and stomach viruses. It’s been a horrible winter and in the past 4 days a virus went through our house. Hating that!

  • I’m not a fan of popular radio right now. I’ve always loved it and most of its music but I often find the personalities gross and vulgar. We love 98.3-His Radio and K-Love, I never have to worry what they will be talking about.

  • I’m not a fan of a lot right now. I wish I could replace my daughter’s homework time with fun time. So, today we had a random dance party instead. Still got the work done but we had a lot more fun doing it this time. Have a great week.

  • I am not a fan that my husband lost his job and that I am working full time and missing wonderful time with my kids and getting nothing done. But I am fan of the beer I am drinking right now. 🙂

  • Right now I am not a fan of winter and it just won’t end. We’re expecting another 6″ of snow tomorrow. I am planning on replacing it with spring sometime in the next few months!

  • So glad you feel better! I have been battling ear infections all year. Come to find out, I had a severe allergy to dust mites that was making my Eustachian tubes swell. So weird! Anyway, I like your post today. We always write about what we like; it’s an interesting change to write about some things we don’t like.

  • I’m definitely not a fan of cancer. It’s so common now and I hate that. I’m also not a fan of the mom wars I see going around (I even felt on the defense about a Facebook post this morning over car seats of all things.) So I guess I’m not a fan of judging.

    • Yeah things like that and drama I don’t have time for it. Let’s just be awesome moms in our own way to our families right?!?!

  • I’m with you on most of these. I’ve never tried one of those pillows. One of the things I hate the most is negativity. I always try to be positive and hang with positive people.

  • Right now, I’m not really liking that I am always tired. I don’t seem to sleep very well at night – or I’m up late working. I’m trying to remedy that with naps though — when the stars align and both boys sleep at the same time, anyway!

  • It’s interesting to see your take on the (mostly) bad. I’m impressed to see anything positive written with cancer. I fear cancer, big time.

  • I HATE seafood!
I also can’t stand firm pillows. Everyone thinks I am crazy but I actually like my pillows to be soft and flat. I also have to have at least 5 of them at once. Crazy… yes! But it’s been a night time ritual since I was a teen.

  • There is no doubt that our lives are just ridden with problems and things that we don’t like. So for those things you can change, change it. For things you can’t change, then accept it. After all, we are just humans made of dust and we all have the same destination when the right time comes. Cancer is so deadly and frightening. Most of my loved ones or people I know are hit by cancer. It seems that no one is immune from it anymore.

  • While toxic things are really really unpleasant I do believe that sometimes they help us to grow and learn as a person. I like this saying: “Sometimes we have to look through the darkness to see the stars.” Obviously this doesn’t relate to mayo! But other things yes 🙂

  • That is great that you are moving. I wish I could move but it would be too much trouble to put my home on the market.

This year my family has been focusing on getting the toxic people out of our lives.

    • Our focus is intentional living and of course making mindful choices is part of that. We sold out home to investors, didn’t even need to make it ready for the market.

  • I’m not a fan of being stuck indoors all day with my twins – darn Winter. I have a trip to PE 101 planned with some other multiple families which should be fun!

  • So many people are struggling with cancer in themselves, friends, or a family member. We have a wonderful person we know struggling too. She has a wonderful attitude though, and like you said it really is amazing to see.

  • I hear you… anything toxic or non-productive is on my list too. I’m sending healing love and light to all struggling with cancer and other diseases…

  • Cancer is at the top of my list of things I’m not a fan of!! 🙁 My aunt just had surgery to remove her stomach cancer, my friend’s mom just found out she has breast cancer, and another friend’s grandmother has just decided to stop her chemo treatments and they’ve called in hospice. 🙁

  • You have a fine looking family! I have to say that I am liking your post. I have been replacing all of the preconception of bad to happen with positive thoughts. Instead of assuming that something bad will happen I am imagining how great things will be.

  • LOVE this “not so much” idea! Very clever! I’m like you, I would prefer to write about what I do like rather than what I don’t but sometimes it is needed. I just did a post about some nail products I didn’t like earlier this week.

Good luck with the moving. We are hoping to move soon as well and I am not looking forward to the paperwork and business end of it all!
