Hydration Station – How to Get your Kids to Drink More Water

September 17, 2012 Comments Off

I definitely don’t drink enough water in my day. {I’m working on it though.} But I always make sure my girls are hydrated with the right stuff, namely water.

DaddyB and I don’t allow our girls to drink carbonated drinks, however they do love their juice, and we don’t mind giving it to them occasionally, but our preferred beverage to keep them hydrated and healthy is water. There are several things we do to encourage water consumption in our home, we purchase fun sippy cups, use bendy and swirly straws, we’ve even made ice cubes with fruit in them, but one thing we’re very consistent about is making water accessible to them.

Sippy Cup Lil C and Miss A don’t get water from the fridge and aren’t tall enough to get water from the tap, so when we are at home we set up a, “hydration station” or a drink spot for them. We make them aware that this is where their water will be and every so often {usually from 30-45 minutes} we have them take at least a sip of their water, if it’s hot out or they’re more active we’ll adjust.

Miss A is now 5 and here are some things she has to say about water {this video is completely unscripted and words and thoughts from Miss A}

Apparently, water is very important!!!

Luckily, I don’t have to make my girls drink their water, they do love it, but I think I’ve also done a great job making it fun. Just like anything parenting related, if you make it fun your kids will be more willing to do good things for themselves.

Now I’m curious, how do you encourage your kids to drink more water? Reply below and one of my readers will win a $50 Visa gift card!
