How Your Oral Hygiene Can help a Charity in Need

This is a sponsored post in partnership with The Motherhood, however a very important message and cause that was laid on my heart to write about.

I like to think our family takes pretty good care of our teeth, both flossing and brushing, but with our busy schedules brushing time is often rushed. With such a quick brush and not even a thought of a mouthwash or oral antiseptic {for me specifically} and all the coffee and soft drinks I enjoy, I know my teeth aren’t quite as clean as I would like them to be.

Did you know that there are more germs in your mouth than there are people on earth? That’s right – and believe it or not, even if you brush and floss, you’re likely missing millions of them! In fact, brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth, which is why it’s critical to go that extra step to achieve optimal oral health for yourself and your family.

Recently I headed to my second home Super Target to pick up some items for my Listerine challenge. I found that the Listerine brand carries several products that I never knew about {but I’ll save telling you more about those till my next post}. Luckily, my family and I have the opportunity to be able to take great care of our teeth and in turn our overall health. I know calling oral health and opportunity may sound weird, but there are so many children that don’t have a choice when it comes to oral hygiene.

Surprisingly, oral disease has become the most chronic childhood illness in the U.S. Millions are affected, suffering from various forms of oral disease like tooth decay, and experience pain so severe it affects their ability to eat, sleep and learn. It impacts children of all backgrounds, but especially the millions who are unable to afford access to regular professional care that can help treat these conditions.

Smile Across America with #LISTERINE and MommyB

For every person who posts a “Swish Selfie” to Listerine Brand’s Facebook page, Listerine will make a contribution to help Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America program toward their goal of connecting 210,000 children with needed oral health services in 2014.* Through your support we make a difference in oral health for ourselves, our families and children across the U.S.

*$5.00 will be donated per “selfie” up to a grand total of $64,000.

What are your biggest oral health/hygiene struggles??

When I had braces a million years ago, they de-calcified my teeth somehow, so I end up with lots of cavities. Even though I hardly eat any sugar. Sigh….

We’re also doing the challenge and I’m really looking forward to seeing the difference, especially for my children. I do pretty decent right now, but we can ALL use a little extra push! This also reminds me I need to go share a selfie on the Listerine FB page!

I think the selfie swish campaign is brilliant. Finally a good reason for my narcissistic behavior. LOL!! I do need to floss more regularly thanks for the reminder.

The $5 per selfie is really a huge amount for one of these campaigns. I usually see $1. This is awesome and totally worth a swish!

Very cool! I’ll have to post a selfie of us swishing as we’ve only begun using mouthwash on a regular basis recently. Great campaign. I love when businesses give back.

Selfie Swish is a great event and for them to donate so much money for each swish is fantastic. Way to Go!

It’s amazing how many other issues oral diseases can cause. My dentist always reminds me of all the problems poor oral hygiene can cause. I think it’s pretty cool that Listerine is doing something to help.

What a great cause they are helping by doing this, I love it! I have difficulties with the whole flossing thing. I do it but not everyday, I don’t know why I just hate doing it 🙁

What a beautiful family picture! You all have lovely smiles. We use LISTERINE at home to help keep our smiles healthy, too. (And yeah… I totally can identify with your Target home-away-from-home feeling. I could shop there for hours!)

I did this challenge last year and realized how important it is to use mouthwash. I’m so jealous of your Super Target. I wish we had one here!

I will admit that I don’t use mouthwash every day. I know I should — maybe a 21 day challenge would allow a good habit to form for me!
