Happy Father’s Day Mom

Happy Father's Day MomFor those of you who grew up the product of a single mom home or if someone other than your father played that role you know there are kudos to be given in untraditional ways.

My mother and father divorced when I was 5 years old and my mother gained custody and from there on her duties as both mom and dad increasingly grew. Not because she wanted them to, but because she chose to. Many say that single mothers HAVE to be both mom and dad, but really they don’t even have to be either, it’s a choice to take on those roles, a conscious effort to try to give your children everything they should have. No family member can replace or fill the role that was meant for someone else, but trying to step in and provide the love, skills, and knowledge of that other parent is nothing less of exceptional.

I know that I am blessed to have a husband who not only helps me with the girls, but goes above and beyond and is a GREAT daddy. Happy Father’s Day DaddyB!! I cannot imagine what it would be like to have to be a single mom, like my mom, or how much work goes into it. I know on the times when DaddyB has work trips or is even home late those are typically my long days. I can’t imagine having to do that every night.

My heart goes out to my friends who are single parents as I see them struggle with everyday life, not to mention all of the complications that come with being on your own and having a child or children. So this Father’s Day, like many in my past, I thank my mom for being there, being mom and dad, and trying as hard as possible to give my siblings and I a great childhood despite not having a father-figure when I was younger. {I have since reconnected with my biological father.} She did an amazing job and made me into the person and mom that I am today. Love you mom!

Happy Father’s Day to all the single moms out there, the fathers who are amazing fathers, the dads who have reconnected with their children, the men who are fathers to children who are not biologically their own, men who mentor children without dads, fun father-in-laws, and most especially to God, my Heavenly Father for always being with me.

I too was raised by a single mom, starting back in the early 70s before it became commonplace. We always used to say Happy Fathers Day MOm and I went on to found my business based on this http://www.happyfathersdaymom.com
