Happy Birthday to Me – A Medifast Present

Yesterday was my birthday! I had a very blessed day with lots of great friends and family making it a special celebration, and got a bunch of awesome gifts {including a lot of mustaches, which you saw if you follow me on Instagram}. I also decided to give myself a present, have you ever done that???

While it may sound a little selfish, and may be a tad selfish, but also has properties that will give back to my family and maybe even friends too, I am giving myself the gift of a healthier life. Yes, you heard right, I am on a plight to be healthier this 33rd year of my life, and hopefully on.

Now that I am 33 years old I am the heaviest weight I have ever been at xxx lbs {did you really think I was going to post here???!?} PSYCH!!! Seriously though, after struggling with weight at about 9 years and up, having weight issues on both sides of my family, giving birth to two babies, my body is just plain uncomfortable. Even worse, I’m only 4′ 10.25″ {give or take a quarter of an inch, because every bit counts!!} and every single pound on us shorties shows up right away. MommyBKnowsBest Medifast Weight Loss

In the past I have tried fad diets, I have skipped meals, taken diet pills, worked out several times a day, and those things all worked…for a hot minute, and were not healthy for me at all. I’ve also seen successes with working out and calorie based programs, however for the season of life I am in I don’t have time to count every bite that I put into my mouth, and I don’t want to give up anything I’m currently committed to in order to workout. I need a gradual change that I can transition into rather than jump right in.

Right now, I am very busy taking care of my husband, girls, and home as my first job. Then of course I have this website and TheCharlotteMoms.com to run and write on, as well as being very active at my daughter’s school as a room mom, attending school functions, participating in Bible study, and enjoying play dates and mom’s night’s out with friends. Whew, I got tired there just typing that all out!

I knew it was time for a change, a food change.

In my search for a food program I asked my Facebook friends, Twitter followers and personal friends about which program of this style was the best and their input, and the comments had a clear consensus, Medifast was the popular name, and the program that gets results.

Because of other’s recommendations, and my own research I decided to check out Medifast even more in-depth and liked what I saw. With any diet you need to take into consideration a number of different things and make sure that it will fit into your lifestyle or any changes you are willing to make in order to achieve your weight loss and health goals.

For me, Medifast is a perfect fit because I have most of my meals already planned out for me and I don’t have to spend lots of time figuring out menus and meal planning. So today I’ve started my journey, and I’ll be reporting to you my progress, good or bad, about the Medifast plan itself, good or bad, and giving you photos, food tips, and Medifast updates through my journey.

Now it’s time to blow out the candles on being 32 and uncomfortable in my own body and unhealthy. {See those candles are out. I promise I’m not licking my screen, well not much at least.}

I hope that you’ll join me on my 33rd year Journey. I am still learning a lot about Medifast and the program, and the cool thing is that we can learn together. If you are interested in weight loss or know someone who is, I would love it if you would read my posts, and leave questions or comments. I will be giving you my honest opinion about the program, updates and photos on how I am doing, and honestly, would also love a little moral support. For me the more people I have counting on me for something, usually the better job I do…so encourage away!!!! I will appreciate you even more than I already do.

  • Yay for you! Happy Belated 33rd Birthday!!! I’m excited to read about your 33rd Year Journey! So proud of you! I should really be joining you. I’ll be 33 in 3 weeks! OMG! You can do it!

  • You know I think you’re a beautiful mama, and I’m never one to judge, EVER. I wish you well on your journey towards whatever weight it is you’re searching for, but more importantly hope that you find a healthier you throughout all of this. You’re a beautiful and special person, and feeling that way is CRITICAL to your well-being! So have at it and you have my support, girl! ((hugs))

  • Good for you! I’ve been seeing a lot of bloggers starting this and it is making me want to try something too. I’ve got this darn 20 to 25 pounds that I’ve gained since having kids that just sticks around.

Good luck to you on your journey!!!

    • Thanks Emilie! Medifast was the best fit for me with my schedule, my past weight history, and so far I’m enjoying the program. Still getting used to the food though *LOL* But going from greasy, fat-filled food to vitamin packed food is a big change.

  • Wow good for you putting yourself out there to get accountability. You are really brave and strong and beautiful and I am so excited for you. I am here for moral support I know how hard it is to make lifestyle changes, I haven’t been able to stick with mine yet.

    • Ellen, thank you, and part of me can’t believe I put my weight out there, but I figure that’s the best way for me to be accountable and bring that number down, and hopefully never be that again!

Thanks for your support and if I can help you with yours in any way please let me know. Last time I saw you though you were looking good, but I know sometimes it’s more than just that!

  • Happy Birthday!! You are beautiful inside and out. I recently lost 20 lbs and it was hard work but I feel great. You can do it too!! Can’t wait to read your posts.

    • Hi Brooke, Thanks so much for reaching out. I have ended my Medifast journey. I am not completely sure that I was determined enough to continue eating Medifast foods. As you can imagine any diet change is something you have to want to be successful at. When I had the shakes they were great at first but after a while, personally I wanted food, and as for the Medifast food, like any food there were options I didn’t care for and some were okay. Since then a lot of big life changes have happened and I let my health go a bit but I’m now on a new journey and hope to write about it soon. It’s not a program so much as cutting things out of my current diet and choosing healthier foods so that I can live my best life. Hope you find what you are looking for in your journey and my experience has helped you as well.
