Things for Kids to Do at Six Flags Over Georgia

Thank you to Six Flags Over Georgia for accommodating my family in order to obtain information for this blog post.

While we were in Georgia for a blog conference, we decided to stop by Six Flags Over Georgia since it was on the way home. Being that DaddyB is also known as The Coaster Critic of course you can imagine that our girls are also thrill-seekers when it comes to amusement parks too. Although it was a little hot out on the day of our visit, we lathered on the sunscreen and made sure the girls were well hydrated. I had never visited Six Flags Over Georgia, and was excited to see how kid-friendly and family-friendly the park was. If you are looking to visit here are some of the things kids can enjoy at the park, and some things that I think they can improve on.

Six Flags Over Georgia Kids Fun Collage MommyB

Fun kids area – Bugs Bunny World has a very well-rounded blend of rides for the little ones to enjoy. Depending on their height and age, some of them can ride without a parent. Our girls seemed to enjoy all of the rides and although Miss A didn’t get a chance to ride Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster {the kid’s roller coaster}, she did enjoy the smaller rides too. The ride operators took care to ensure the children’s safety, and sometimes had to deny admission to children who were too large to safely ride.

Family friendly food – This park definitely has a lot of great options when it comes to family meal time and snacks. From chicken tenders to pizza, really anything kid friendly you can think of they offer. They even have a Johnny Rockets Express, yum! We enjoyed some delicious, refreshing Cold Stone Creamery ice cream during our visit. I loved the pavilions with picnic tables set up for park goers to conveniently use as well.

The park offers a dining pass for Six Flags Season Pass Holders to purchase so they can eat lunch and dinner at the park every time they visit. For more information on their Dining Pass head here: Six Flags Over Georgia Dining Pass

The things I didn’t love so much…

Not super stroller/wheelchair friendly – It was easy to get into the park initially with our stroller {we use a front to back double stroller}, however this park is extremely “hill-y” and hard to maneuver with little children. We’ll just say DaddyB got a really good workout during our visit. I know this isn’t something the park can specifically change, but perhaps there are small changes they can make like designing the paths a different way or creating stroller and wheelchair paths specifically for ease of use. It would certainly make the park day more enjoyable and encourage us to want to stay longer.

Lackluster entertainment – We were able to grab seats for the, “Looney Tunes We Got the Beat” performance in the afternoon. It was nice to sit down, in the shade and prepare to be entertained. Unfortunately, the show was pretty outdated and not as entertaining as I hoped it would be. My girls, who usually love watching similar shows at other parks didn’t really get into the characters {because they have no clue who they are} but hung in through the 20 minutes that the show lasted. I liked that they invited a few children on stage, and the area for the show had plenty of seating, but hope Six Flags Over Georgia considers possibly updating their character choices to reflect newer, more beloved characters and that will in turn reflect the quality of the show.

Looney Tunes We Got the Beat Six Flags Over Georgia MommyB

I also caught bits and pieces of the, “ShenaniGuns! Comedy Wild West Show” and for our family, I didn’t think it was appropriate, a lot of negative talk, name calling {fat, stupid} and some crude kid humor {Bad Boob}. This show is on every hour so when we visit again I would probably just be sure to be in a different area of the park around those times. In my opinion, I’d be okay with Six Flags getting rid of this show entirely, and finding a show that can have fun, wholesome entertainment.

All-in-all this is a beautiful, hill-y, but beautiful park and is well maintained. Six Flags Over Georgia has a lot to offer families in the way of rides, entertainment, and things for kids to do, and will probably be even more fun as our girls get a little older.

Have you ever been to Six Flags Over Georgia? What was your experience? What did you love? What didn’t you like?

This is not a compensated post, however we did receive media passes in order to review this park and amenities. All opinions and thoughts in this post are my own honest words. Your experiences may vary, and if they do I’d love to hear them in a comment below. Thanks for reading!!

Why Superman Man of Steel Should Visit Atlantic City’s Steel Pier #jerseylove

Big, HUGE, thank you to the Steel Pier Amusement Pier for the #jerseylove hospitality and tour. We loved meeting you and even though you are super awesome, this post reflects my own honest opinions of my visit and my thoughts on the Steel Pier are based on my experiences at the park and not influenced by the fact that I indulged in the most delicious, complimentary cotton candy before visiting the park.

Don’t you think that the “Man of Steel” should visit Atlantic City’s Steel Pier?

Well, you’re right he is busy saving lives, but…

Okay, I guess I see your point.

The Steel Pier is Super Fun, and here are some reasons that, the Man of Steel, aka Superman, or really any awesome hero like person {including yourself} may enjoy a visit to the Steel Pier.

Steel Pier Super Man MommyB

Super Ticket Prices: Steel Pier gives you the option to purchase as little as 1 ticket or an all day wrist band. So heros can choose the amount of money they spend based on the rides they want to get on, and the amount of time they have to spend at the park. Often times the park stays open very late into the night. {Great for super hero families too!!}

Superific Rides: If you’re bringing the little heros they’ll enjoy the Double Decker Carousel, Ferris Wheel, and the swings. For the people who are mildly adventurous Steel Pier features super roller coaster rides like Crazy Mouse and Loco Motion, and some pretty awesome rides. A few of us #jerseylove girls enjoyed the Flying Dutchman, which is a pirate ship type ride, Freedom Flier, a true wolf in sheeps clothing of amusment park rides, but super fun ride that goes upside down, and basically all over the place, and Rock-n-Roll, which you may have seen at other fairs or amusement parks, this ride is like a carousel for adults, spinning forward and backward as the cars freely swing side to side, my only wish for this ride was that the music was a little more upbeat to match the style of the ride.

Here are some of my pictures of the rides at Steel Pier {no one was riding yet because we braved a torrential downpour {{or something similar} for a tour of the facilities, see water on the ground before it was quickly cleaned up after the storm stopped.}} – Please do not use this photo, or any photos in this post without my written permission.

Steel Pier Amusement Park Rides New Jersey Collage MommyB

Along with the rides listed above, and a few more in the park, there are a couple of rides that you won’t want to miss, especially if you are a thrill-seeker.

The helicopter is a BIG attraction and Steel Pier is the secret lair home to the only helicopter ride in Atlantic City, making it a busy stop for performers and celebrities flying via helicopter into AC. This is one of few attractions at the Steel Pier that is not included in the all-day pass.

Steel Pier Helicopter MommyB

Speaking of additional attractions, Steel Pier is also home to the Slingshot, where you can experience Up To 5 G’s and you are shot into the air and “fly” 0-225 Feet in 1.5 Seconds at over 100 MPH. Yeah, only a super hero would want to ride this, see:

Slingshot Ride Steel Pier Collage MommyB

Okay, I’m not a superhero, but I sure felt like one riding this ride. Elizabeth from and I rode together {pictured left}. We even saw a rainbow while we were bouncing in the air, which made this #jerseylove trip even greater. {I’ll be writing more about my experiences throughout the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!!}

Yummy Amusement Treats to Rescue your Tummy: That speak for themselves, WHAT?! I had to try it, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to tell you how yummy it was!!

Steel Pier Food Collage MommyB

Amazing History: The Steel Pier in Atlantic City originally opened on Saturday, June 18, 1898, which in just a couple of days will be 115 years!!! How amazing. During it’s hay-day, Steel Pier was where Miss America was crowned for several years and was once called the “Showplace of the Nation” and included such acts as the High Diving horse; Rex the Wonder Dog, a water-skiing canine in the 1930s; and musicians, Frank Sinatra and Al Jolson among others.

Don’t miss the next upcoming performance with Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses featuring Sarah Spiegel – Performing three shows July 27th, 2013 at 7:PM, 10:PM & Sunday July 28th, 2013 at 3:PM.

Awesome Things to Come for 2014 and beyond: Steel Pier has been touting some great new attractions and changes coming our way. Their plans include ideas to make the Steel Pier a year-round attraction, offer indoor banquet and event facilities, achieving a few theme park ride records, and adding some new rides.

Steel Pier New Additions Design MommyB

Super Fun for Everyone!! I speak for all of the #jerseyshore attendees {without their permission} when I say we had a BLAST during our visit to Steel Pier. Even though it was raining, that didn’t stop us from wanting to check out the rides, take pictures and because the weather cooperated, were able to enjoy the park in it’s entirety.

Crazy Mouse Steel Pier MommyB

I promise if you are in Atlantic City and you do not go visit the Steel Pier you will be kicking yourself. This family-owned operation is not only one of the most successful in the country, but it’s also got a lot of heart.

Being TheCoasterCritic’s wife, I geeked out a little when I got to meet Steel Pier Owner/President Anthony Catanoso, {Don’t you think he looks a little like Scott Baio?}, in all seriousness, the entire staff from management to ride operators and food vendors were so pleasant and really seemed like a family. I can’t wait to visit again, rain or shine!!

Make sure you check them out Steel Pier on Facebook and Twitter too and let them know you have #jerseylove!

Social Media Moms Jersey Shore Trip for Social Good #jerseylove

I am beyond excited to head to New Jersey at the end of this week. I haven’t had much extra time on my hands to write a post on this, but if you’re following me on Facebook and Twitter, I’m sure you’ve seen my #jerseylove references.

On Thursday, I’ll be driving North with Lisa Frame of A Daily Pinch {wahoo!!} Once we get to New Jersey, we’ll be dropping our bags off at the beautiful, Cesar’s Palace Atlantic City and enjoying a great dinner at Mia’s with these awesome moms from Social Media Moms and NJ Digital Moms. {Can you find me??}

#jerseylove Social Good

I’m very excited to spend some time catching up with, and making new friends, but will be happy to lay my head down at the end of the night after what will be a long, but I’m sure fun, drive North.

Friday we’ll be beach bound, heading to Belmar Shore. I am excited about this trip, although I have not been in person I have the images of the damage done by hurricane Sandy engrained in my head, it will be nice to fill them with new images of a place that is restored, and while not completely back to it’s “old” self, rising from the destruction and reclaiming home.

I’m honored to be a part of a group who will be presenting the Mayor of Belmar, Matt Doherty a check for rebuilding the town and to help those still in need and suffering from the effects of this tragedy. I know too well, how much others help can lift you up when you live through a situation like this, and that is why this trip is tugging at my heartstrings.

It’ll be nice to also show off some amazing businesses that have rebuilt and are trying to get back on their feet, I can’t wait to Instagram and tweet about the triumphs they are experiencing too!

While we are at the beach, I’ll be making a fool of myself learning how to surfing and finding out more about D6 Sports, having lunch at D’Jais {gonna try to stick with the salad, but the menu looks boardwalk-tastic}. For those of you who are foodies, you can spot us at the Taste of Atlantic City at Harrah’s , where we’ll be celebrating our Ladies Night Out on Saturday as well. {I heard Joey Lawrence was just there…WHOA!!!} Wonder how many autographs I’ll have to sign…

As for earlier in the day on Saturday, I know Hubby, aka Coaster Critic is a little jealous that I get to head to the Steel Pier on without him, but I’ll be taking lots of pictures and video and sharing with him and you too!!

After brunch and goodbyes on Sunday, Ms. Frame and I will be heading back South to report to you all the amazing things we did, and saw, and I fully plan on being filled up with inspiration for my own life on the progress and hope that you will consider helping restore New Jersey in any ways that you are able to, whether it be to pray, serve, or donate.

In the meantime, if you are a twitter kind of person, join Social Media Moms and NJ Digital Moms as we party with @D6SurfSkimmer tomorrow night 9pm ET (6pm PT, figure it out), and give away some cool prizes, and talk about our trip! RSVP to join us and be eligible to win prizes here:

Harlem Globetrotters Charlotte – Wholesome Family Entertainment #globiefamily

If you have read any of my other family entertainment posts you know that DaddyB and I are very selective with the entertainment choices we make for our girls. {Who as a reminder are almost 3 and almost 6}. They don’t care for “scary” scenes in movies and are still pretty young. DaddyB and I both remember seeing things from our childhood that have stuck with us now as adults and while we have the chance to enjoy our children’s innocence we are going to do just that. We love having opportunities where they can not only enjoy entertainment, but also learn from it as well.

Family Entertainment

When I think about wholesome family entertainment the Harlem Globetrotters performance definitely comes to mind. The Globetrotters have been an institution since 1926, yes that’s right, more than 85 years! That’s an amazing history, with over 20,000 games. Can you imagine how many families have watched them in that many years??

We want our girls to live and see a healthy, active lifestyle and encourage them by putting them in classes where they can learn physical skill as well as other important life skills, play with them at home, and we also enjoy watching sports on television and explaining rules, training, skill, and everything it takes to put together a game. As the girls grow we want to take them to more sporting events, however we know that some events aren’t so family friendly, which is why we are very excited to take them to the Harlem Globetrotters performance here in Charlotte.

We know the girls will be able to see, first-hand, the fun of sports, the athleticism that the Globetrotters portray, cool displays of skill, and will be able to enjoy it in a wholesome setting where we don’t have to worry about some of the issues we might encounter at a typical sporting event.

If you’re in the Charlotte, North Carolina area come join us, and if not I know there are games all over the country, so check it out and see if there’s a performance coming your way!!

Harlem Globetrotter Banner

The Harlem Globetrotters love seeing families laugh together during our games, and would love to see your family when we come to a city near you.  If you’re looking for an awesome event the whole family will enjoy, get your tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters “You Write the Rules” tour.  Your family’s smiles will start before you even get to the game because this year, your family can vote at, and decide rules for the game like two balls in play at the same time that could affect the final outcome. After the game, Globetrotters will stay on court to sign autographs and take photographs with your kids.  The only thing better than finding an event the whole family will enjoy, is getting a great deal on it.  Save $7 per ticket* by using the promo code “TOGETHER“.  Get ready to experience a show your family will remember for a lifetime!  *Discount available on select ticket levels

I received complimentary tickets to the show so I can tell you a little more about my family’s experience. This in no way effects my opinion, good or bad of the Globetrotters. Your opinions of the Harlem Globetrotters and their games may be different.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Present: DRAGONS Review

All-Access PreShow Circus

Lions, Tigers, and……DRAGONS?!?! Oh my! Or rather Oh boy!! This morning we went to watch the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Present: DRAGONS performance. After the All-Access Pre-Show {which I’ll tell you about a little later}, the show was started by an amazingly talented, and hilarious Ringmaster, Johnathan Lee Iverson. Iverson was the first African American and the youngest Ringmaster in the history of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® starting his career with them in 1999. In his first year he was named one of the ten most fascinating people of the year by Barbara Walters. Not surprisingly so, his voice and personality was a huge gift to the entire performance.

Here’s a peek at some of the amazing talent we were able to enjoy and revel at:

Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus Review

We were in awe at the Cossacks, who rode beautiful horses, and performed tricks that we normally only see done on gymnastics equipment. We even saw one of the troupe members go from riding the horse as usual to under and back over the horse in a 360 circle while the horse was running.

One small thing that could be an issue for parents about this specific performance is that one of the riders pretended to fall off his horse and was dragged around the ring, {I told Miss A at the time, and before the performance that everything was practiced regularly and that it was unlikely that anyone would be harmed at the circus.}

As a parent, I think it’s important to open up communication lines between the kids who will be attending the show, {especially younger ones} to let them know there will be dangerous feats involved so they a.)don’t think anyone is in real danger, and b.) so they don’t try to imitate the acts at home.

Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey DRAGONS

Each and ever section of acrobatics performed, whether it was the Hair Hang Heroines, Russian Bar Renegades, Teeterboard Titans, were skilled and amazingly talented. We got to see graceful moves as acrobats performed in the air inside see-through globes which was so impressive, and when one of the Teeterboard Titans landed in a chair perched atop a one-story {I’m guessing} pole, my jaw dropped. The clowns were great for laughs and transitions to different acts, but also to lighten the mood of the room after some pretty intense performances.

We were cheering loudly for the Torres Family who conquered the Globe of Steel, with 8 members of their family riding motorcycles inside the globe, it was one of the coolest things I have seen to date, no joke! The crowd was engaged by the Shaolin Warriors, and were laughing, clapping, and nervous {all at the same time} when Alexander Lacey performed with his big cats, including one male lion, 4 female lions, and 4 tigers, all beautiful animals.

Speaking of animals, we enjoyed being able to see the big cats, as well as domestic cats and dogs perform. It was nice to see the performers “lovin’ on” {as they say here in the South} their animals, I saw frequent pats, rubs, and even some kisses going on throughout the show, as well as animal care attendants {I don’t know their exact titles} watching and standing by for the animals, just as they do for the human performers.

It was neat to see the tone of the crowd change when the Asian elephants made their way into the circus ring. Each and every child, and most parents were, “ooohing” and “ahhhing” at these amazing creatures. It was an honor to be able to see these beautiful animals closer than you would at the zoo, and also see a little bit more of their personality as they performed standing, held each other’s tails, and one elephant even stood on his front legs and trunk.

Miss A’s favorite part, very surprisingly to me, were the dragons featured throughout the show and the end dragon who appeared in a cloud of smoke and blew green fire out his mouth. I thought the dragons would be scarier from the commercials, however I think Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey did a great job of making that part of the show kid-friendly.

Overall this was an amazing show, and I would write a million more things if I could. The show was a great pace, well worth the money, and definitely a show that Miss A and other families that attended will savor memories from. We also were able to enjoy pre-show activities that were offered:

Ringling Bros. Presents: DRAGONS opens an hour before each performance for the All-Access Pre-Show, an interactive experience free with ticket purchase. Families can participate in activities such as learning juggling and balancing skills, getting performer autographs, seeing one of Ringling Bros. majestic Asian elephants paint a one-of-a-kind masterpiece and meeting the Ringling Bros.Clowns, whose side-splitting spoofs, absurd antics and comical parody are guaranteed to keep audiences roaring with laughter.

All-Access PreShow Circus

If you’re looking for an amazing show, with talented performers {both with and without fur}, look no further, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Present: DRAGONS will be in the North Carolina/South Carolina area through the rest of this weekend and then continue on their tour in other cities, maybe to an area near you if don’t live in one of the mentioned areas.

Tickets for all local performances of Ringling Bros. Presents DRAGONS are available at the Time Warner Cable Arena Box Office, at, at, and by calling 1-800-745-3000. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Present: Dragons

Ringling Bros. and Barnum &  Bailey’s 90-city tour is coming to Charlotte January 30 – February 3rd. This show features one phenomenal Ringling Bros. circus act after another, from Shaolin Kung Fu Warriors, charging Cossack riders, magnificent Asian elephants, fierce tigers to the frenzied Globe of Steel featuring the Torres family, and more! Take a look:

Check out these awesome circus animal facts and share them with your kiddos:

Elephants respond to some 60 verbal commands, as well as recognize human and animal friends after years of separation.

Tigers are the largest living members of the cat family. A tiger typically grows to be 40 inches tall at the shoulder, nine feet long and 500 pounds in weight.

A female elephant is pregnant for 22 months. (I’m thankful I’m not an elephant right about now.)

Horses are social animals. They form strong associations with members of their herd and possess a keen ability to recognize subtle social cues.

Male goats, called bucks or billies, usually have a beard. Female goats are called does or nannies, and young goats are called kids.

Llamas are normally sheared every two years.

If you are an animal lover, which I know many of you are, you may appreciate the fact that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey fund and have created state-of-the-art centers for elephant conservation as well as a big cat conservation. Not only that, but the animals you see in the show are cared for by animal care professionals around the clock and are showcased to display their physical abilities, beauty, and distinct behaviors. Party Planning Tips for The Little Gym

Little Gym of Huntersville & Lake Norman

CupcakeLil’ C’s birthday party planning has begun, and I’m thinking that some of you have probably started trying to figure out what your children’s birthday parties will look like this year. Will you have an intimate party at home? Do you like hosting the party at a fun kid’s spot and avoiding clean-up? Maybe you do both, {if so then wowzers!!}

In the B family, we’ve done a little bit of both, although often, a small party winds up being larger than expected. Much to my husband’s surprise though I’ve been able to get our guest lists down to around 8 children or so, which is good for me.

One of the most memorable birthday parties that we hosted was Miss A’s fourth birthday that we held at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman. {Did you know that you don’t have to be a member or enrolled in classes at The Little Gym to host your party there???} Here are some posts from that party {so you can see why it was a blast.}

Miss A’s Birthday Bash

Little Gym Birthday Party

Instead of telling you the amazing reasons to book a party for your child at The Little Gym of Huntersville/Lake Norman, I figured I would give you tips for party planning at this very cool location.

Communicate – While most of the work is left to the amazing staff at The Little Gym, there are a few choices you will need to make when it comes to activities, cake, number of guests, and of course date selection. The more you communicate with TLG staff, the less stressful the party will be.

Party Food – This is one of the few aspects of the birthday party package that The Little Gym leaves in the hands of parents. Whether you want to order pizza or make your own, they are very flexible about what choice of food you’d like to offer your guests. It may be a good idea, {depending on what time your party is} to get a few small snacks for parents to munch on while the children enjoy the activities and then give children the main dish before cake.

To Theme or Not to Theme – With The Little Gym services, there’s no need to plan an elaborate theme for your party, after all, the main theme will be gymnastics and play. However, if you’re anything like me, you love a good party theme. For Miss A’s fourth birthday party we chose a rainbow theme, AND it went perfect with The Little Gym’s bright colors, THAT was a coincidence.

Room for Presents – Most parents who host a party at The Little Gym choose for their child to open presents in their own home. This allows more party time for everyone. When thinking about your child’s presents, as well as seating for everyone who’ll be traveling with you, that way you’re not struggling to make it all fit.

Plan Ahead – Just like any other venue, The Little Gym Birthday Party dates fill up quickly. If possible, try to plan your date 1 to 2 months prior depending on the time of year. If you’ve already told family and friends to save the date, call The Little Gym as soon as you have a date, better safe than sorry.

Are you ready to book your child’s birthday party at The Little Gym? At your convenience you can book your party online, email, or call The Little Gym to pick out your date, find out more about the services they provide, and get your party planning started.

Disney On Ice Present: Worlds of Fantasy Interview

Disney On Ice Charlotte

I had the unique opportunity to interview one of the amazing talents of Disney on Ice Presents: Worlds of Fantasy live show here in Charlotte, NC. 19 year-old Elizabeth Parsons has been ice skating since she was three years old, after she was influenced by watching her bigger sister and professional ice skaters.

And now at the age of 19, it’s still one of the best things she’s done in her life. I fully enjoyed speaking with Elizabeth, aka “Liz”, because, even through the phone, I could feel the passion and joy she has for her craft. This job has afforded her the opportunity to visit countries across the globe with her ice family and still be able to work on her degree by taking online classes.

Disney On Ice Charlotte

In the show, Disney on Ice Presents: Worlds of Fantasy, Liz is an Ensemble Skater who plays a seahorse, finale fairy and green army man. Liz says about the show,

“It’s a great show for boys and girls kids of all ages, with Tinkerbell coming into her own, Little Mermaid’s fun and exciting story, Cars 2 and of course the Toy Story 3 section there are so many characters that kids can identify with.”

Disney On Ice Collage

Through this show, and the others that Liz has taken part in, she has been able to live her dream and  enjoy what she calls, “the perfect job.” Because she knows a lot about living her own passion she also encourages children to do the same,

“Just to go for it and work hard, and really follow your dreams and it will get you to amazing places and get you to amazing things.”

I encourage you to go watch Liz and her fellow cast mates as they entertain your entire family, and who knows, maybe you could have a future ice skater on your hands!

Enjoy the fantasy of Disney on Ice and make some fantastic memories! Are you headed to a Disney On Ice performance this year?

At ages 5 and 2 my girls have not seen an ice show the size of Disney on Ice, so I’m extremely excited to take them to Disney On Ice Presents: Worlds of Fantasy when they come to Charlotte Wednesday, Oct. 10th through Sunday, Oct. 14th

Ariel and Friends

I am always amazed at the amount of work that goes into making these shows seem so effortless. From the staging, lighting, and music, to production, crew, and the talent. I love seeing the great display of athleticism in these shows and really am impressed.

I look forward to my girls seeing their favorite Disney characters in action. I fully expect a lot of, “ooohs” and “ahhhs” to come from their little mouths and hoping that it will be as memorable a night for them as it was for me when I was their age.
