Teaching Kids to Cartwheel, Handspring, and More at Little Gym Summer Camps

Little Gym of Huntersville & Lake Norman
This post is in partnership with The Little Gym of Huntersville/LKN.

Do you or your kiddo ever wish they could learn one skill like cartwheeling? I’ve mentioned before I’m the Mombassador for The Little Gym Huntersville – Lake Norman and Miss A and Lil C have enjoyed each of their classes and have been in classes for several years. I love that the classes give my girls well-rounded skills in all areas of gymnastics from balance to teamwork, and am excited that this year Little Gym is focusing on specific skills.

This summer, Little Gym of Huntersville – Lake Norman is offering several summer sessions for your children {ages 6-12 years old} to grow in different areas of their gymnastics.

Little Gym Skill Thrill and Super Kids Small

Here they are:

Caribbean Cartwheels & Hawaiian Handstands June 24th & June 26th

Cartwheels and Handstands are the “gateway skills” that will lead the beginning/intermediate level gymnast toward learning Round-Offs, Back Handsprings, Front Handsprings , and more!  Because Cartwheels and Handstands are both “upside down” skills, they do wonders for building your child’s upper body and core strength, too!  Learning and perfecting Cartwheels and Handstands are a “must” for young gymnasts!  A “Caribbean/Hawaiian” side theme will add a fun tropical twist to the week!

Back Handspring Bonanza July 15th & July 17th

This Skill Thrill Camp is perfect for those kids who are ready to learn the Back Handspring!  It’s also great for those kids who have learned a Back Handspring – but are ready for more advanced Back Handspring variations, i.e. Round-Off, Back Handsprings; Round-Off Back Handspring-Back Handspring; and more!  A three hour “Back Handspring Bonanza”!  What could be more fun?

Front Handspring Festival July 29th & July 31st

This Skill Thrill Camp is perfect for those kids who have learned their handstand – and are ready to move to the next step – a “Front Handspring”!  This camp is also great for kids who can do this skill by themselves – but just need some repetition and practice to solidify their technique and confidence.  This Front Handspring Festival will also be an “Upper Body Fitness Festival” of sorts – as handstands and front handsprings are a great way to exercise the muscles of the arms, shoulders, chest and back!

Amazing Aerials August 12th & August 14th

Is it possible to do a “no-handed cartwheel”?  YES – this skill is called an “Aerial”!  While advanced-level gymnasts may be perfecting their aerial or learning to link their aerial to other skills, beginning and intermediate gymnasts will have the opportunity to grow their cartwheels as they journey through the many skill progressions to learn the intricacies of this exciting skill.  This Skill Thrill Camp may be just the thing for those kids who are “THAT CLOSE” to doing their aerial by themselves!  This week may just do the trick!

Review Twinlab CleanSeries Whey Protein Isolate

Twinlab Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate Review

Since deciding to get in shape for my wedding almost 9 years ago, I’ve had more brands and flavors of whey protein than you could imagine. More recently though, I haven’t tried a new product as I’ve been sticking with my usuals. So, I was interested in trying out Twinlab’s new Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate.

Packaging
Twinlab Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate ReviewI’ve used many Twinlab products over the years. Their once recognizable gray and black tubs of powder have been re-branded and the Clean Series packing sports a sleeker looking silver and orange theme. Across the board, consumers are more discerning about what goes in their bodies and it makes sense that this sentiment would affect the nutritional product world. Labels stating that the protein is Non-GMO, Certified Gluten Free, and even that it’s been tested for banned substances will insure athletes and average workout joes and jills alike that they’re getting a safe, quality product. It’s also noted that it’s low in lactose and has a low glycemic index which are two more positives.

What’s in it?
I received a 1.5 pound tub of Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate. It has 21 scoops of protein at 23 grams per serving. Each serving has 110 calories, only 4 grams of carbohydrates, and 0 grams of fat. Whey Protein Isolate (from milk) is the very first ingredient. This is a good indicator that you’re not getting a lot of filler and you’re getting the best type of protein. Isolate proteins are easier for your body to absorb than whey protein concentrates and other whey blends.

Price
Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate is $44.99 on the Twinlab website. GNC’s website has it for $29.99 which is likely closer to what you’d see it for in stores. That’s a bit steep in my opinion for 21 servings, but I will say that the work put into the testing, certifications, and the bonuses of ease of digestion may make it worth it for some.

How Does it Taste?
I tried the Vanilla Wave flavor of the Clean Series Whey Protein Isolate. It was very light and not too sweet. It also wasn’t very flavorful; which at times can be a good thing. Flavor often means adding sugar and can also make the drink feel heavier. It isn’t meant to be a meal replacement shake as much as other products out there, so I thought the light taste was right on par with what I expected. It’s neutral vanilla flavoring make it a strong candidate to go into a fruit smooth in place of yogurt or milk.

I had it before workouts and first thing in the morning since I typically want something with more carbs after work outs. It’s a good overall product that I’d recommend for those looking for a quality protein from an established brand that’s focused on creating products you can trust.

Track your Healthy Lifestyle with LifeTrak Move C300

I received a LifeTrak Move C300 in order to test out the product and give my honest feedback on it’s use.

Since I’m working on being healthier and living a more active lifestyle I’m always getting questions about programs I’m on and also a lot of people asking if I use a calorie/activity tracker. I’ve used another brand in the past, but recently heard about the LifeTrak Move C300.

This wrist watch-based device tracks several aspects of your day. On it’s own it tracks your steps, and distance you walked/ran that day, it calculates your calories burned (using technology to count “true” steps and calories), and heart rate as well. With some user interaction it can also track your sleep, caffeine intake, caloric intake and more.

C300 Quick Features

This health tracker device stands out, apart from others, for a few reasons:

It’s waterproof – fully submersible to 30 meters – great for swimming and you don’t have to remove it for a shower.

The device shows you some of your stats on the screen (some devices show nothing on their own screen) so you know your progress for the day without having to go to the app.

The device can show you 7 day and hourly activity so you can compare your progress and see how you are doing for the week.

You don’t have to charge the device, so no missed calories burned. Often times with other devices you have to plug into your USB or a AC outlet.

It has interchangeable bands with lots of colors. The devices I have come across usually only have one band, no choices.

It’s one of the lower priced activity trackers on the market.

LifeTrak Move C300 Review Collage

One small reason I didn’t love this device was because I couldn’t hide it under my clothes. It is a little bulky for me since I’m not used to wearing even a regular watch, but overall I really did like the features and price point especially. In my opinion this is a great fit for people who are beginning or in their health journey wanting to keep track of goals and see their progress. For me seeing that progress and then watching it reflected on how I feel, the number on the scale, and how my clothes are fitting is awesome.

The Move C300 retails for $59.99 and you can get yours HERE.

Head to LifeTrakUSA.com to learn more about the Move C300 or check out their other products.

Have you ever used a health tracker? If not why not?

Medifast Chewy Bar Review and Weight Loss Progress

Hey readers! I know I haven’t had a Medifast update in a while, I figured I would concentrate on monthly weight ins since my weight recently {with vacations and summer events} has been up and down but pretty steady at 147.

I do have some great news however, and that is not one, but two NEW Medifast products! I received the Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar and the Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar. In the packaging the bars looked very tasty and the flavors sounded delicious, right?!?!

Medifast Chewy Bar Review MommyB

Overall I liked the idea of a chewy bar since the other bars that Medifast offers (with the exception of the maintenance bars) are more “crispy” and more like granola bars, so it was a great change from what I’ve been munching on. I was super excited to try them out and they both satisfied any sweet tooth I had for sure.

Both bars are indeed chewy, I’ve talked to some people who prefer the bars chilled for texture purposes. I do agree somewhat, the bars are very chewy, so small bites are best, but I didn’t mind it. This however is not a good option if you’re munching in between talking to someone {think peanut butter on the roof of your mouth.}

I also love that they are “Naturally Flavored”.

Now my thoughts on each separately.

Medifast Cookie Dough Chewy Bar – This bar definitely tastes like cookie dough, I personally would have preferred the milk chocolate drizzle on this instead of the white drizzle. Overall a good bar, a little on the sweeter side for me though.

Medifast Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar – I really liked the balance of peanut butter to chocolate in this bar and the chips gave it some additional texture. This is one of my favorite bars in the bunch.

My Medifast Progess – Week 29 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Here’s to a better week this week, although I struggled at times with my brain, and to be completely honest, there were moments where I thought, {and to be SUPER honest, may still have in the back of my head} that I should take a break from trying to stay healthy for the summer.

Like I’ve said in so many posts recently, losing weight and being fit will always be a challenge for me, it’s not something that I’m programmed to do nor is it a full part of my life yet, but I’m a work in progress and still hanging in there, for this week at least.

I got some great validation from you all in my past posts and on some instagram posts that were really encouraging for me, and while I’m not doing this for other people or for approval, it really is nice to hear words of encouragement and that I have people backing me up, so thank you for those of you who chimed in, (even if it wasn’t “out loud”).

This week I got to try the new Medifast Triple Berry Smoothie. Occasionally I like a good smoothie, so I was excited to hear that Medifast was coming out with a smoothie for their food plan. Medifast has two different smoothie flavors, Triple Berry and Pineapple Mango.

Since I was in a berry good mood, I decided to try out the Triple Berry flavor first. It was super easy to make, but if you’re going to follow the directions you should be at home or near a blender. Basically you add water and ice with the mix, and blend, then voila, a cold treat.

When I opened the package, I was delighted to see bits of dried fruits in the mix, and think it would make a good smoothie pop too!! {hint, hint} Overall I loved the taste of the smoothie and the texture was great too. I’m excited to add this to my list of Medifast foods that I love, although I may just add super finely crushed ice to the mix and shake it up or consider getting a personal-sized blender instead of putting it in my oversized blender, for easier clean up.

Medifast Triple Berry Smoothie Review MommyB

I will let you know what I think of the Pineapple Mango flavor when I try it. In the meantime which Medifast Smoothie flavor do you think you would prefer???

Make sure you check out my thoughts on the smoothie and other Medifast Foods by heading here: MommyB Knows Best’s Medifast Food Reviews.

So cheers {with my Medifast smoothie} to this next week, I’ll be traveling to a blog conference and am going to try to be on plan for the most part, but not beating myself up if not, although I know I won’t get workouts in this weekend, hoping once we get back I won’t have too much work to catch up on and will be motivated to start working out again as well.

Now, here are my results from the past two weeks:

My Medifast Progress – Week 27 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Today, I thought I would give you some tips on how not to gain weight.

Do not go on a press trip and indulge in all of the tasty offerings they have to offer.

Do not drink your calories. {I really only had a couple of mixed drinks}.

Do not travel again the next weekend and give yourself slack to eat not so great.

Good tips huh? Seriously though, those are 3 of the things I have done wrong in the past two weeks when it comes to my weight loss.

It’s really easy to focus on the negative, so I’m going to step out of my box here and list a few things that I did right these past two weeks.

I didn’t go off plan for every meal. I did exercise in the form of some pretty intense dancing. I did get plenty of rest. I drank more water than I usually do at home.

So there you have it, I’m not perfect, {but I’m willing to bet you already knew that}, and even though the scale did go up this week, it honestly could have been a lot worse had I not had any self control, so I am proud of myself for the things I did “right” this week and will continue working on the reasons behind my not-so-healthy choices. I know circumstances won’t always allow for me to eat on plan, especially with my job and having to review food and attend events, but I’m going to try my best and keep on learning.

What’s you’re biggest struggle with weight loss? Is it your will power? Finding time to work out? I would love to hear!!

I recently asked all of my Instagram followers (if you’re not following click HERE), what flavor of Medifast on-the-go shake they would like to see and here are some answers. Feel free to tell me what you would pick.

My Medifast Progress – Week 25 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Hi, I’m Jenn and I’m an addict. I am addicted to food. I am not joking or making light of other addictions. I have seen other addictions take over people’s lives and how it effects everyone around them. I am addicted to food.

I don’t know to what extend I am addicted, but I know that I will always struggle with food temptations, and that it will always take a conscious effort on my part, every minute of the day, to choose health over what my mind tells me.

This or That MommyB Medifast

When it comes to food I hear voices. No I’m not crazy…at least I don’t think I am, but I rationalize, “one bite of this won’t hurt” “you can work out and work it off later”…and one bite turns into three, and after I know it I end up binging and scraping the hard work I had done in previous weeks.

In my head there are days where I am so on board, I stick to plan and have few thoughts of veering off path, then there are other days where, I swear, my brain wants to sabotage me. I’ve even thought, “how long am I here on earth for”, “there are other people that are less healthy than me and they seem okay”. Then it’s a matter of reminding myself why I’m trying to lose weight, and why I’m using the Medifast plan.

I KNOW how to lose weight, I know the things I’m doing right and the things I’m doing wrong, there are so many things I can and will be implementing to help me in this journey. My excuses aren’t helping, and I know those voices and thoughts won’t easily go away, if ever. I will fall off the wagon, I will get back on, banged up and bruised, and possibly a few pounds heavier, but I need to keep going after this, I choose health, but I am addicted to food.

I’ve always known that I have had an addictive personality and addiction (in many forms) runs in my family, however that is not an excuse for any behavior including my health and weight, and I’m a scrappy lil momma who intends to keep pushing, even when my brain convinces me otherwise.

So if you can’t understand what I’m going through I beg you to please still hang in there with me, and if you have it in you, even though you may think I’m not doing a great job, I hope you are able to send sincere encouragement to push me forward. If you, can empathize or if you are a food addict, this is a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute process.

I am a food addict and I am not quitting.

Medifast MommyB

My plans are to start to replace things that I eat or do slowly, but build them up as habits. I am trading coffee for Medifast Calorie Burn Strawberry Lemonade Flavor Infuser™ or another caffeine replacement that doesn’t have the calories that my beloved coffee does, or the temptation of picking up a donut or bagel while I’m there.

So here goes!!!

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight
Lost This Week: -0 lbs (but none gained in the past 3 weeks either)
Weight Lost on Medifast: -21.5 lbs
Current weight: 147 lbs

Pant size: Started at 14 now at 8-10!!!

*Goal to new running shoes: -2.5 lbs
My First Goal: -33 lbs/135.5 lbs {since I’m 33, I thought that was appropriate}
My Final Goal: -16.5 lbs/119 lbs {half of 33}

My Medifast Progress – Week 21 & 22 #journey33

Hello strangers! What a whirlwind couple of weeks this has been! Here’s what’s been going on the past two weeks:

Some of you know I founded and run a local parenting website. Last week we posted our last new article as we felt led to work on other things.

Along with that change there has been another great change in our homes that has consumed a lot of time and has been very draining physically and mentally. I can’t mention the change quite yet but I’ll be sure to keep you posted once things are finalized.

Right now I am sitting at the Honda repair shop since my Odyssey decided to start leaking (pretty sure it’s just a clogged ac drain, no biggie).

And the end of school is near so there are lots of activities and parties and whatnot, exciting but hectic.

Plus, in just over a week I’ll be celebrating Miss A turning 6 years old and partying with her very own Lego Friends theme! I can’t believe it!!!

Busy busy busy!

I’ve been trying to stay on plan and of course other than running errands and cleaning the house have not had time for “real” exercise.

I’ll admit I’ve missed meals completely, eaten some foods that weren’t on plan and as usual struggled with getting enough water to drink and proper amounts of sleep.

One other thing I have noticed is that even though I love my Diet Coke I do feel more bloated than when I drink water. I need to remember too that the Medifast Essential1 CalorieBurn Infusers are great for energy AND hydration. They really do give me the boost that I used to get with my coffee especially on extra busy or sleepy days.

Unfortunately, in our craziness, my hand-me-down DSLR camera also decided it was time to go to camera heaven. I wanted to post more pictures of my progress this week, but it’ll have to wait until I get a new camera, sorry!!!

In the meantime here are some pictures of my progress in a before and during collage:
