A Teddy Bear Picnic To Remember

Teddy Bear Picnic

Amazing! That is the one word I would use to describe the great time had by all at the Teddy Bear Picnic this past Saturday. Thanks to North American Bear Company each of the kids received a different bear. Some of the children didn’t even want to put their bear down, while others were playing, “Ring Around the Rosie”s.

Bear Play

The moms and children donned their adorable duds and came to munch on some of these breakfast favorites: organic milk, orange juice {no pulp of course}, gigantic muffins, a great assortment of kid friendly fruit, teddy bear cookies {mostly for theming}, and thanks to Musselman’s not only did we have a picnic basket, but we got to enjoy some of their healthy AND tasty Totally Fruit applesauce, no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors or flavors! Love it!!

And of course, to top off the Teddy Bear theme: Tropical Sun’s own Grabeez Gummy Bears in assorted flavors. Easy for the kids to hold and munch. Or read nutrition information: {I actually think “G” was trying to figure a way to just get the red ones out, those are my favorite.}

G and Tropical Sun Grabeez Gummy Bears

After their bellies were full, the children danced to music, ran around the shaded area and checked out the beautiful water at Cullman Park in the Ballantyne Corporate Park picked out by the amazing photographer for this event, Jamie, with Photography by Jamie Lea.

Here are a few more great shots from the event and to check them all out, head over to Photography by Jamie Lea on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/PhotographyByJamieLea and make sure you like her page.

Kid Basix Review

Kid Basix LogoI am the mom who, for some reason, has had THE worst experience with leaky sippy cups. No matter what brand we’ve used, how much they tout that they are no-spill, inevitably they end up dripping all over the place.

Somehow Kid Basix has designed my miracle sippy cup. Let me introduce you to; the Safe Sippy 2. I did everything I could to try to make this sippy leak, I shook it, held it upside down, rolled it around, and it still maintained it’s no-spill feature. Unbelievable!

Kid Basix The Safe Sippy 2

This sippy cup holds 11 ounces, which is the perfect amount of liquid, in my opinion. The Safe Sippy 2 features 3 different adaptors, which allows the sippy to almost grow with your child.

Adaptor #1– The Sippy Plug allows your little one to tip and sip their drink like any other sippy.

Adaptor #2-The Straw and Straw Adaptor transforms The Safe Sippy 2 into a “big kid” cup so when your child’s ready for the next step it’s super easy to convert to the straw option.

Adaptor #3– The Travel Plug. If you’re going far or travelling a long distance this is an accessory you MUST have to keep the liquid right where it’s supposed to be, inside the cup and not all over everything else.

Another great bonus to The Safe Sippy 2 is that the plastic handles are removable so your child can have the option to keep them on or take them off, plus it’s great for minimizing dishwasher space.

Kid Basix Sippy Cup LineNot only are the Kid Basix products made to stand out with their sporty, colorful designs, but they are also BPA-Free and made from stainless steel. They produce baby bottles, sippy cups, and sports bottles so when you fall in love, {and you will} every member of every age in your family can sport Kid Basix.

To purchase your Kid Basix drink holders and find out more information on their complete line visit their website: http://www.kid-basix.com and check out their Facebook page too: http://www.facebook.com/kidbasix

Have you ever used Kid Basix? What sippy cups have you found that surprise you {in a good or bad way} and how did they surprise you?

I received products from Kid Basix in order to complete this review. This in no way impacts my opinion of their products and the opinions expressed above. The review is based on my opinion and experiences with Kid Basix products, yours may vary.

Dora’s Explorer Girls: Dora All Grown Up

Dora Grown up April 10 2010 On April 10, 2010, last year, I wrote on my family website about the possibility of Nick Jr.’s Dora the Explorer all grown up. Here is a picture to the left depicting the current Dora and what they wanted her to look like after she aged. But then it was all pipe dreams.

Say, “Goodbye” to Map, Backpack, Boots the Monkey, Isa the Iguana, Benny the Bull, Tico the Squirrel, the Grumpy Old Troll, Big Red Chicken, Azul, Swiper the Fox, the Fiesta Trio, Mami, Papi, Abuela, and the rest of the old Dora “cast”.

In less than a week from today, the new “crew” is making their debut and the pipe dreams are coming to fruition with Dora’s Explorer Girls! On Sunday, August 7th at 8:00pm Nick Jr. is premiering the new episode. Where a “grown-up” version of Dora, along with her friends, Naiya, Kate, Emma, and Alana go on an adventure when they realize they’ve forgot their tickets to hit-singer, Shakira’s concert.

Dora’s Explorer Girls features Dora, {who now lives in the city} and her four friends who are trying to make the world a better place by working together. Each girl has their niche, Dora is great at reading maps and being a leader, Naiya is the expert on the universe, exploring stars and space, Kate “speaks out” encouraging people to make things better by taking action, Emma brings people together by making music with her violin {sometimes Dora joins in with her flute}, and last but not least, Alana teams up with others through playing soccer and being an organizer, rallying people to work together.

Miss A, who is now 4 years old, loved Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go, but recently has left those shows behind for the likes of Olivia, The Fresh Beat Band, and even Dino Dan. I’m interested to see if this older version of Dora, and her friends will be something she likes. So far, after seeing the previews on Nick Jr. she has asked me to make sure she gets to watch it next Sunday.

For my youngest, Baby C though I’d still like to see the short, round Dora and her gang of silly friends, or maybe even Dora’s younger brother and sister as a spin-off of Dora the Explorer.

Are your children excited to see the new Dora’s Explorer Girls? How about you?

For more information on Dora’s Explorer Girls show, videos, {including Shakira’s Todos Juntos, the music video/song featured in the premier episode} and games, check out Nick Jr.’s website here: http://www.nickjr.com/doragirls

Will Blog for Pampers and a Giveaway Too {CLOSED}

Will Blog for Pampers

Will Blog for PampersWe are a Pampers family through and through, although I’ve always had intentions of trying out cloth I never could bring myself to use anything other than Pampers. I know they work, we’ve used them since day 1 when Little Miss A was born over 4 years ago, and I am totally the kind of person who has the, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mentality.” {Although you will never hear me use the word a’int in normal conversation.}

When Pampers told me the exciting news that they were launching improvements for their Cruisers line I was elated. But then I wondered how they could make, in my opinion, a really awesome diaper even better. Here’s how:

Pampers is taking their Cruisers line and giving it a softer, quilted backsheet, very similar to the beloved Swaddlers that we wish all diapers were like. Honestly, I have not heard one mom say they didn’t fall in love with Swaddlers when they used them. Cruisers are also getting a longer absorbent core, for even more protection, and drier skin for your baby. And lastly, one of the most FUN innovations is….OSCAR!!!!

Oscar the Grouch Pampers

 Yep, that’s right folks, Oscar the Grouch is making his debut appearance on Pampers Cruisers. Just in case your child is having a rough day, you can literally turn them into a cranky pants kid. Plus it’s nice to look up and see the furry eyebrows for a laugh when you’re wrestling with your active toddler trying to get the clean diaper on.

Aside from this green grump, Sesame Street’s finest also appear on the diapers, from the lovable red monster Elmo, to the crumb creator himself Cookie Monster your kiddo will love seeing their favorite characters on their diapers. Baby C loves running around in her new Cruisers.Baby C in Pampers Cruisers

If you’re not a Pampers family, but have been wanting to try them out, {like a few of you who I have been chatting with here and there} your chance has come!

Pampers has offered to give one lucky MommyB Knows Best reader a chance to win their very own pack of Pampers Cruisers with the new, and improved features.

How to Win

Tell me what kind of diapers you currently use. Whether they are cloth, disposable, or homemade. I’d love to hear your favorite brand. And if you’re thinking about switching I’d love to hear why. And even if you don’t use Pampers and don’t want to try them out yourself consider donating the prize to a local charity or family who is unable to cloth diaper for one reason or another.

Not Required, but we’d love it if you’d go check out Pampers here: on their website, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

RulesGiveaway ends August 8th @12:00 am. The winner will be chosen at random, verified, emailed, and announced in a Winner’s post. The winner has 48 hours to respond to the email from MommyB to claim the prize, if the prize is not claimed within 48 hours a new winner will be chosen at random. You must be a US resident and 18 years or older to enter.

I received a bag of Pampers new design diapers to try out, this in no way impacts my honest thoughts on the product, but allows me to give you a complete review.

Kid-Free Restaurants? You weigh in

Kid Free RestaurantRecently, a restaurant in western Pennsylvania announced that they are no longer allowing children under age 6 to dine in their facility.

McDain’s Restaurant and Golf Center in Monroeville, PA., says the new, “no-kid” policy will take effect July 16.

Restaurant owner Mike Vuick said there’s “nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can’t control their volume.” He said all that screaming and crying disturbs many of his customers, and also states that “children might be the center of their parents’ universe, as it should be. But he says they’re not the center of everyone else’s universe too.”

As expected some patrons support the policy and Vuick’s choices for his own business and others are offended by the policy.

There are many other places like housing (in some states) and job interviews however, where it is illegal to even ask about your family status, however it appears that Vuick is within the law as it’s his business.

What do you think? Click on the poll answers below to add your opinion.

What is your take on the "no children" policy in restaurants or other businesses?

Backyard Safari Outfitters Review

Backyard Safari OutfittersWhen I told one of my blogger friends that I was reviewing Backyard Safari Outfitters products she said, “Why? You don’t have boys do you?”

This is the exact reason I need to review products like these. I want to show the world that girls like adventure and camping just as much as the boys do. In fact, I think my girls loved these toys even more than some boys might.

The girls had so much fun playing in the Backyard Safari Outfitters Expidition Three Base Camp Shelter, giggling, and rolling all around. Much to my amazement this open shelter was much larger than I originally anticipated. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to “pitch” it in our living room, until I realized just how big the shelter actually was. We have a pretty small house so personally it worked much better outside and gave us more space, plus the outdoorsy feel was much more fun anyway.

Backyard Safari Outfitters Cargo VestMy other favorite touches of the Backyard Sarari Outfitters line are that they come with a great Essential Field Gear Cargo Vest {which is only 19.99 and the construction is top-notch} and your child can earn patches to place directly on the vest. The vest lets your child store so many items, including your pop-up field guide, a flash light and so much more that way they can have their hands free to explore. It fits Miss A who is now 4 years old just right and there’s lots of room to grow.

I also love the Backyard Safari Lazer Light Bug Vacuum. {Also featured in the June 2011 issue of Parents magazine “The Summer’s Hottest Toys” section!} Not only can you “suck” up the bugs, but you can also light them up and take an upclose look with the built-in magnifying glass. Miss A is deatlhy afraid of bugs, but loved using the vacuum to “get rid of them” and “shoe them away”. It was also a nice way for her to examine the bugs without being too scared that they would touch her.

Overall, we really like Backyard Safari Outfitters products, they are great a great value. You get quality toys and products for affordable prices. As I mentioned earlier the toys are great for boys or girls and are GREAT for the summer and playing in your own backyard or the wild outdoors.

Get your Bakcyard Safari Outfitters gear on their website: http://www.summittoy.com/ or find them at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, and Target. Be sure to fan them on Facebook too: http://www.facebook.com/BackyardSafari

What’s your favorite outdoor activity for the summer?

Does your child LOVE or HATE bugs?

As a member of Team Mom I received Backyard Safari Outfitters products in order to complete this review. My opinions are in no way influenced by Team Mom or the products I received. My opinions are my own, however yours may vary.

Birthday Bash Happy Birthday Little Miss A

In case you haven’t been keeping track Little Miss A turns 4 today! I can’t believe it’s been 4 years. To me, “four” sounds very old, like “I have a child old,” in some ways I’m very sad that Miss A is growing up, I miss our silly moments and know that just around the bend school is approaching. Believe me I am not rushing her into anything, and even though I know I will cry on her first day {calling it already}, it will be a great opportunity for her. As of yesterday she was telling everyone she was, “three and a half” so it’ll be great for her to finally say “four”.

Her official party will be this weekend which we are excited to celebrate and also share with you, but for now here is my big four year old. I love you Miss A!!! {photo by Barbara Payne Photography who will be featured at the end of the Birthday Bash this month with a giveaway}

Frecklebox Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

Frecklebox LogoIf you haven’t heard of Frecklebox you may just want to make it your go to for personalized gifts. After checking out their site I fell in love with Frecklebox’s personalized goodies. As a mom with two daughters who have untraditional names, (that’s what you get when you have a mom who’s name was #1 for like 10 plus years), personalized gifts are ever more of a big deal to us.

Frecklebox Sheriff LunchboxIf you peruse the website you’ll find old-school style lunch boxes, colorful storybooks, boys and girls style growth charts and so much more. My favorite item from Frecklebox are their place mats. Before I received the girls personalized placemats I assumed they would be nice, but I didn’t expect them to be as high quality as they were. The plastic material used is super thick and I’m not worried in the least that this placemat, (like some store bought placemats) will ever fall apart, even for the messiest eater. Read More

Cute Beltz Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

CuteBeltz LogoI love finding great Easter gifts for my children’s baskets that don’t include candy, yet sometimes it’s just hard to find cute gifts that they’ll love and use. But guess what? I found these adorable belts called Cute Beltz that come in many styles for children size 12 months to 6 years.

Mommy’s B{eloved} – I love that the Cute Beltz come in D-ring AND velcro options because Little Miss A can’t quite get the hang of the D ring all by herself and when she goes potty the velcro makes it so much easier to get her pants on and off, so important for potty time and children who like to dress themselves, but can’t quite do it all on their own.

Both boys and girls can enjoy Cute Beltz and each gender has several styles to choose from so if your little one needs belts for several outfits you are in luck and should easily find something to coordinate. I like these for gifts because they’re the perfect price to gift to someone. Read More
