My Medifast Progress – Week 25 #journey33

Thanks Medifast for allowing me to be a brand ambassador and receive product and tell my readers about my challenges and victories with health.

Hi, I’m Jenn and I’m an addict. I am addicted to food. I am not joking or making light of other addictions. I have seen other addictions take over people’s lives and how it effects everyone around them. I am addicted to food.

I don’t know to what extend I am addicted, but I know that I will always struggle with food temptations, and that it will always take a conscious effort on my part, every minute of the day, to choose health over what my mind tells me.

This or That MommyB Medifast

When it comes to food I hear voices. No I’m not crazy…at least I don’t think I am, but I rationalize, “one bite of this won’t hurt” “you can work out and work it off later”…and one bite turns into three, and after I know it I end up binging and scraping the hard work I had done in previous weeks.

In my head there are days where I am so on board, I stick to plan and have few thoughts of veering off path, then there are other days where, I swear, my brain wants to sabotage me. I’ve even thought, “how long am I here on earth for”, “there are other people that are less healthy than me and they seem okay”. Then it’s a matter of reminding myself why I’m trying to lose weight, and why I’m using the Medifast plan.

I KNOW how to lose weight, I know the things I’m doing right and the things I’m doing wrong, there are so many things I can and will be implementing to help me in this journey. My excuses aren’t helping, and I know those voices and thoughts won’t easily go away, if ever. I will fall off the wagon, I will get back on, banged up and bruised, and possibly a few pounds heavier, but I need to keep going after this, I choose health, but I am addicted to food.

I’ve always known that I have had an addictive personality and addiction (in many forms) runs in my family, however that is not an excuse for any behavior including my health and weight, and I’m a scrappy lil momma who intends to keep pushing, even when my brain convinces me otherwise.

So if you can’t understand what I’m going through I beg you to please still hang in there with me, and if you have it in you, even though you may think I’m not doing a great job, I hope you are able to send sincere encouragement to push me forward. If you, can empathize or if you are a food addict, this is a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute process.

I am a food addict and I am not quitting.

Medifast MommyB

My plans are to start to replace things that I eat or do slowly, but build them up as habits. I am trading coffee for Medifast Calorie Burn Strawberry Lemonade Flavor Infuser™ or another caffeine replacement that doesn’t have the calories that my beloved coffee does, or the temptation of picking up a donut or bagel while I’m there.

So here goes!!!

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight
Lost This Week: -0 lbs (but none gained in the past 3 weeks either)
Weight Lost on Medifast: -21.5 lbs
Current weight: 147 lbs

*Goal to new running shoes: -2.5 lbs

“Moms Mean More” Concord Mills Event {Giveaway}

Maureen Oboyle Jennifer BullockThis weekend Concord Mills hosted their, “Moms Mean More” fashion show, hosted by WBTV’s Maureen O’Boyle. Not only did this fashion show feature clothing available for purchase at several of the outlet’s stores, but through the event they were also able to promote Dress for Success, a local charity helping women get into the workforce, and honor two deserving moms: Fridonna Shepard-Steele – A graduate of Dress for Success Charlotte and Anita Dean Arnette – Moms Mean More online essay contest winner.

The fashion show showcased looks from several of the mall’s stores including, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Banana Republic Factory Store, maurices, Kasper/Jones NY Outlet, The Children’s Place Outlet, Aerosoles, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Old Navy, VF Outlet, P.S. by Aeropostale, and Tommy Bahama Outlet.

Concord Mills Clothes MommyB

I had the pleasure of speaking with some of the representatives from a few stores and learning more about the brands and what they represent. In some exciting news Brooks Brothers‘ clothing will be featured in The Great Gatsby movie remake, and the store also sells clothing for women as well. Shocking, I know!

Since bermuda shorts are in for this season’s fashion trends, Tommy Bahama was an obvious choice for the fashion show. Not only were we transported to island life when we walked into the store, but the fabric choices and styles were very in line with the mission of the original owners. I fell in love with some of the looks and may have to go back and grab some dresses and tanks for my upcoming trips for Social Media Moms #jerseylove and Myrtle Beach.

During the fashion show my favorite piece was from Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th and was a beautiful linen dress with a matching hat. The model wore the look fabulously and it looked not only great for the spring/summer, but also expensive yet comfortable.

The models were great, I definitely had my favorites and was only able to capture a few in my videos because of their stopping points. The male models were hilarious, and the crowd finally started getting “into” the fashion show when the adorable children came out to show their looks. Here are some of my favorite clips from the show:

I loved the look that was featured from Old Navy with an adult female model and a little girl who were wearing matching outfits. I wished there were more sets like this featured, especially since it was a Mother’s Day event and I of course am biased as a mom.

Several of the stores that were featured in the fashion show have outlet prices every day on their items, but also have additional savings for the Mother’s Day holiday. Make sure you stop by Concord Mills between now and Mother’s Day to find a special mom in your life something she’ll really love, at a great price too!

Also, Concord Mills is giving one lucky MommyB Knows Best reader a chance to win a $100 Simon Gift Card that can be used anywhere in the US that accepts American Express. Enter here:

Also, if you are in the Charlotte area, please make sure you check out and consider donating the following items Dress for Success Charlotte:

My Medifast Progress – Week 20 #journey33

Hooray for a great week. I don’t want to say it yet, but I may be back on track. This week I got a few workouts in, {hooray for that motivation} I stayed on plan, {minus a handful of my daughter’s goldfish crackers} and was inspired both on instagram, and by people who are doing the program themselves {you know who you are, and THANK YOU!!!}

I tried a few new Medifast foods, make sure you check my page for Medifast Food Reviews to see those. I had lean and green meals like lean turkey and broccoli, salad and grilled chicken, snacked on kale chips {yep that’s right}, and even made this delicious cauliflower pizza that is perfect for Medifasters!

So here’s to another week, closer to my first goal of 33lbs for my #journey33 and also my incentive goal, which I posted about here in my Week 18 and Week 19 recap, so let’s see how close I am to both of those goals as of this week, shall we?!?!

My Medifast Progress – Week 13 #journey33

Welcome to week 13 of #Journey33. If you haven’t been following along, the day after I turned 33 I decided that this year I am reclaiming my health in so many ways, one of which is getting my weight down and being healthier about the choices I make when it comes to my body.

My first Medifast goal is to hit 33lbs, last week I surpassed that goal and was down 17lbs, woo hoo!!! This week I hit another milestone. One of the many reasons I started searching for weight loss options was that my clothes in my closet were the biggest I have worn and even so were very tight. I wasn’t about to buy another size up and knew that it was time for a change. This week, I am proud to say that I have gone from my size 12/14 tight clothes, into a comfortable fitting size 8 (same brand of pants). I also notice in my tops and undergarments, but it was so awesome to be able to put them back on. I know for me, I have a long way to go, but inside I’m saying, “I’m doing it, and I deserve this.”

Size 8

Did you have any awesome milestones this week, whether they are health related or not I’d love to hear them and celebrate with you.

This week too, I had a restaurant review and went out to dinner with a few friends. My amazing dietician (you get one too when you enroll in Medifast’s program) gave me some tips for dining out. Some of them I already knew and others I’m working on implementing  One thing I’d really like to start doing because I have the must-eat-everything-on-my-plate mentality is either to get a to-go box right away or have the kitchen divide my meal in half when portions are as big as my 2 year old. 🙂 Know what I mean???

· Get food “naked”—without sauces, dressings, or toppings. Get those on the side.

· Stick with broth based soups

· Choose marinara, olive oil, or tomato-based sauces

· Keep portion sizes in check

· Ask for a to-go container to avoid eating after you are already full

· Share entrees, appetizers and desserts

· Focus on companionship and conversation rather than food

· Put your utensils down between bits

· Have your plate cleared as soon as you are done

Here are this week’s stats:

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight
Lost This Week: – 1.5 lbs {starting this week at 151.5 lbs}
Weight Lost on Medifast: -18.5 lbs
Current weight: 150 lbs
My First Goal: -33 lbs/135.5 lbs {since I’m 33, I thought that was appropriate}
My Final Goal: -16.5 lbs/119 lbs {half of 33}

My Medifast Progress – Week 12

I am so excited this week. It’s really neat because I feel like the past week I’ve had a brain switch. You know how they say it takes 60 days to form a habit and 90 to stick with it? That.

I feel like the healthier choices I am making are easier to make and less of a struggle. Can we say, “Breakthrough”. While I know I will still and do still have my moments I really feel like I am on a great path and am very happy that I have had the opportunity to lose this weight and improve my general well-being with Medifast. I can honestly say not having to rack my brain to count calories has made this transition a ton easier, no joke.

For me, Medifast has been a great fit because other programs need more time and brain power. Because the girls, my home, being a wife, and working keep me so busy, Medifast just made sense for me, and it’s working and I can see lots of benefits.

I definitely can tell by the way my clothes fit, and how I feel (meaning it’s not as hard to get up off the couch or go upstairs to tell the girls to go to sleep for the 4th time *LOL*). I can also notice it in my face in pictures this week. Other people are also noticing, which is nice, not that I am doing this for others at all, but it’s nice to hear and also encouraging to keep going as well.

So, with all the positivity floating around, I can also mention that I hit AND passed the half-way point of my first goal (and I tried a couple of new bar this week too, so check out my Medifast Food Reviews page below too)

Here are this week’s stats:

Medifast Week 12 Final Results Collage

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight

My Medifast Progress – Week 11

Week 11 went by really quickly, maybe because of the holiday weekend and the fact that I posted last week’s results on Monday?? In any case, it’s almost March!! Work has slowed down since I’m saying, “no” to some smaller projects, and I’m able to focus on Lil’ C’s upcoming 3rd birthday, holding the fort down as co-room mom at Miss A’s school, and of course taking care of me, in all areas of life.

Blue Isabella Water Bottle

I’ve been doing more devotions, working on being more active {mostly by just getting up more} and getting more sleep this week. While it’s not where I want it to be, I’m a work in progress. You too?? I did have a HUGE boost this morning {technically at 11 last night, and yes that was early for me to go to bed….like I said, I’m working on it}, when a fellow blogger and friend gave me a shout out in her blog, but more importantly, she noted that I was one of her inspirations. Wow! I don’t take it lightly when someone says that I’ve inspired them, and although I can’t believe it, I’m also working on accepting compliments and am incredibly blessed by her words. Of course in turn it also makes me want to work harder.

She mentioned how hard it is to put yourself out there. Whether you tell your husband, or your competing with coworkers, or putting it out on your blog for all the world to see, when you put your health goals out into the proverbial “universe” it’s a little frightening, and I can say, personally I don’t want to let others down either, but as you’ve seen it’s hard to lose weight. Medifast is a very simple program, but my mind is not so simple. I think some of you can probably relate. After some years of thinking one way about food, it’s really a struggle to train myself otherwise, and even though I know what foods are healthy and often make sure my girls are eating well, it’s a whole other ballgame with me, but, I know with this plan, I am on the right track and my mind is really starting to change. I can feel my brain wanting to make better choices, craving less “bad-for-me” foods, and really, it’s just about being present in my own life, which I think so often we don’t really think about.

How about you? Are you present in your life? Are you inspired by others, or perhaps your an inspiration. I’d love to hear your story and thank you for allowing me to share mine. Speaking of, here are my weekly stats {and I’m very close to half my first goal, hopefully this coming week I will hit it!!!}:

Medifast Week 11 Final

Weight Prior to Medifast: 168.5 lbs Weight
Lost This Week: – 1.5 lbs {starting this week at 154.5 lbs}
Weight Lost on Medifast: -15.5 lbs

Holiday Gift Guide presented by MommyB Knows Best

MommyB Knows Best's Holiday Gift Guide

MommyB Knows Best's Holiday Gift Guide

If you’re anything like me {which you may or may not be}, you’ve started making Christmas gift lists for your loved ones, taking note of which toys your children are drooling over this season, and scouring the gift card aisles. Although Christmas certainly isn’t all about gifts in our family we enjoy purchasing thoughtful gifts that we know our family and friends will enjoy. In fact, one of my favorite parts of Christmas is watching others open presents I’ve picked up for them, {I know it sounds cliche, but no joke!}

This year I’ve put together a Holiday Gift Guide for the entire family from your spouse, to the kids and the grandparents, and maybe even something for the pets too! From now through December 20th look for the adorable Family Gift Guide logo I created attached to posts that are a part of this gifting series. Also make sure you look for discounts and giveaways attached to some of the gift guide products and services *hint, hint! And if you don’t want to miss a post, make sure you enter your email in the subscribe box in the right side bar next to this post!!

And last but not least, what is one Christmas present that you received that really “sticks in your head”. Tell us what it is, who gave it to you, and why it is so memorable {for good or bad reasons}.

Happy Gifting and feel free to add this Family Gift Guide image to your site!!

National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day – My Story

MommyB Sisters

SonogramToday is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day. Last year was the first time I had heard of such a day, although I’m not surprised that there is a day to remember and honor the memory of the children who have passed and their families as well. This topic is certainly one that many struggle with unfortunately, my family have been greatly effected by this as well.

On November 24th it will be 5 years since my miscarriage, and even though it may seem like a long time, I remember the turn of events as if it was yesterday. Miss A was only 6 months old at the time, and I had a suspicion that I may have been pregnant from the usual signs, tender breasts, being extremely tired, and the lack of my monthly, although I was still breastfeeding so this wasn’t a sure sign either way, {but of course any of those signs can also result from being a new mom too}.

Because of my suspicions I took a pregnancy test that, looking back now, should have clued me in.  The result was one dark line and one very, very, very, very faint line. I decided to wait a few days to see if the test was faulty because the result was so “shaky” and lo and behold the test came back with only one dark line = not pregnant.

I assumed I was not pregnant until I actually started to have labor pains and heavy bleeding. I tried to wait the labor pains out, but they continued to get worse. After sitting in excruciating pain for what seemed like hours at the emergency room it was confirmed that I indeed was experiencing a miscarriage. The term the doctor used was a, “blighted ovum”, but to me it didn’t matter what medical terms were being said, my heart only felt loss.

Although this baby was not planned, I could only think of the amazing joy having Miss A had brought me and all of the, would have, could have, should haves came rushing into my brain. I felt guilty, as if I should have been more responsible, I wondered if I wasn’t breastfeeding if that would have saved the pregnancy {even though I didn’t know I was pregnant}, I felt a deep sadness, and even more so when my body completed the miscarriage at home, that was the biggest point of sorrow for me. Even as I type this now, 5 years after the event I remember each moment and my heart is sad, but believe it or not, there is some rejoicing.

I know it may sound unbelievable or unreal,  but I have been given a peace that this was the right thing to happen for me and my family. Who knows if this would have been a horrible pregnancy for me or this baby if I had gone to term, or maybe something in the future that no one, but God could know about. Either way, something was wrong and only God knows the true reasons this pregnancy ended and frankly, I’m okay with that.

Of course I still hold a place in my heart for the little one that I didn’t get to meet, but I know that we’ll meet them in Heaven, and God has so greatly blessed me with two beautiful little girls that need my love and care and I have made Him a promise to take good care of them.

The biggest message I can leave with you today if you are going through loss or have been there and are still mourning is that you are not alone. You-are-NOT-alone. God is the healer of every wound and only He can make you whole again. He wants to fill that void in your heart and comfort you. This world is a sinful world and many bad things will happen to us, none of us are immune even if we do believe in God, but if there’s a chance that we can believe in something greater than ourselves, why carry the burden on our own?

Please consider turning to God for peace, and remember there are so many amazing services available to help support and lift up those going through the loss of a child, please don’t be too proud or think your problems are too big for others to help.

There are many people in my life who do not know this story because I am pretty personal about most things, however I felt that if it had the potential to help someone else then I should not keep this to myself. I pray that my experiences and this story will resonate with you or someone you know.

If you have a story of loss or how you’ve managed your loss I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Announcing: Britax G3 Convertible Car Seat Line {Giveaway – CLOSED}

When other parents ask me my advice on car seats, I always tell them how much I love the Britax brand the best. To me, Britax is the number one brand for it’s safety, comfortability and durability.

There are many different factors parents have to keep in mind as they purchase a new car seat for their child:

  • Safety – hopefully being number one
  • Size – this is very important if you have a smaller vehicle especially
  • Design – may be gender based, style based, or to match your own vehicle
  • Price – as a parent having a price range in mind as you shop can hel

Safety – Recently Britax launched a new car seat line, their G3 Convertible Car Seat series. All five Britax G3 Convertible car seat models provide safety features that are visible and clearly labeled. and offer 360 degrees of protection.

Look for the new BRITAX HUGS™ with SafeCell Technology®, side impact protection, base with SafeCell Technology®, energy absorbing Versa-Tether®, and integrated steel bars. The ADVOCATE® 70- G3, PAVILION® 70-G3 and BOULEVARD® 70-G3 feature new BRITAX HUGS™ Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology®. These chest pads are affixed to the back of the car seat shell to ensure that they are properly positioned on the buckled child. SafeCell padding on the chest pads, identified by a honeycomb design, is engineered to compress to manage energy and create best-in-class resistance to the forward movement of a child.

All of the newly updated BRITAX convertible car seats continue to offer revolutionary safety features that are easy to see. For instance, all seats have a rigid shell with deep side walls that are lined with energy-absorbing foam to provide side impact protection. The ADVOCATE 70-G3, PAVILION 70-G3 and BOULEVARD 70-G3 offer a second layer of protection with energy-absorbing foam in the True Side Impact Protection head restraint that keeps the head, neck and spine aligned. Finally, the ADVOCATE 70-G3 includes Side Impact Cushion Technology®, a third layer of protection, with black energy-absorbing cushions on the child seat’s exterior to reduce side impact energy by diverting 45 percent of the crash forces away from the seated child.

These cushions also provide extra protection for the adjacent passenger. Additional visible features can be found on all updated BRITAX convertible car seats. Check inside the open-style base for honeycomb-shaped SafeCell Technology®, designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat. Look on the outside of the seat for integrated steel bars that strengthen the seat’s connection to the vehicle and

Also, all the enhanced models have new labeling to identify BRITAX’s Energy Absorbing Versa-Tether. The patented 2-point top tether with staged-release webbing anchors the top of the car seat to the vehicle and slows forward movement, reducing crash forces. These features, along with the side impact technologies, provide 360-degree protection for the child occupant.

In addition to the innovative safety features, BRITAX has designed a new convenience feature. The EZ-Buckle System keeps the buckle in a convenient, easy-to- reach forward position, making boarding a child faster and simpler. It can be found on the ADVOCATE 70-G3, PAVILION 70-G3 and BOULEVARD 70-G3 as well as the BRITAX ADVOCATE 70-G3, PAVILION 70-G3, BOULEVARD 70-G3 and MARATHON 70-G3 convertible car seats can be used rear facing up to 40 pounds and forward facing up to 70 pounds.

Size & Design – Britax car seats come in various sizes and weight limits to fit both your child and your vehicle. There are honestly so many styles that browsing through them will be half the fun of the purchase. I also enjoy that Britax, unlike a fair amount of car seat companies, does offer a wide selection of car seat designs. Having two girls I really love the Azalea and Sophia styles.

Price – Last on our list, price. Typically, Britax car seats are known for being on the higher end of the price scale. I do want you to consider the above features, safety, comfortability for your child’s ride (there really is a big difference between other brands, we’ve experienced this ourselves), and also durability. Seeing how well the Britax brand “wears” I can tell that the materials are high quality and we will get our money’s worth with these seats.

Exciting enough, the newly enhanced G3 line is now available at the same price point as their previous models.
